Tony Blair "depressed" in aftermath of Iraq War

Tony Blair descended into such a deep depression after the Iraq war that he told Gordon Brown and John Prescott he would quit No 10 the following summer – only to renege on the pledge within months, a new book by the Observer's Andrew Rawnsley reveals. The former prime minister's physical and mental decline was so profound that he confided to friends that he “spaced out” several times during Prime Minister's Questions and often woke up in the middle of the night with sweat trickling down the back of his neck. Rawnsley's explosive account is in The End of the Party, which is published on Monday , extracts from which appear in tomorrow's Observer. It lays bare, for the first time, how Blair was haunted and tormented by the deepening chaos and bloodshed in Iraq at the same time as being worn down by the constant psychological warfare being waged by Brown, his next-door neighbour in Downing Street, who was increasingly desperate to take his job. While Blair's gift for presentation helped him hide his depression from the public and most of his staff, his private turmoil was so severe that he decided there was nothing for it but to hand over to Brown midway through his second term. Rawnsley is the first journalist to detail how Blair, in those darkest days, made clear at a dinner with both Brown and Prescott in November 2003, and later in a telephone call to Prescott in spring 2004, that he would step down. http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/feb/27/andrew-rawnsley-tony-blair-iraq added by: jeffissleeping

Chris Brown Says Tiger Woods Deserves A Second Chance

‘This goes for me and him, his personal life is his personal life,’ Brown says. By Gil Kaufman Chris Brown Photo: Chris Graythen/ Getty Images In an interview on the Mojo in the Morning radio show in Detroit on Wednesday, Chris Brown said he believes embattled golfer Tiger Woods deserves a second chance in the wake of the sex scandal that has exposed his private life. “I know my fans gave me a second chance,” said Brown, who is currently serving five years probation after pleading guilty to assaulting former girlfriend Rihanna last February. “I think people always deserve a second chance.” Brown said that he supported Woods, who appeared at a heavily managed press conference last week to make his first public apology after his multiple affairs were exposed in the wake of a Thanksgiving morning car crash. “I hope he gets back on the field and does his thing, ’cause he is the best at it,” said Brown, who referred to the Rihanna incident as a “hiccup and a major mistake” during the lighthearted phone interview with the radio station. His career appears to have taken a hit as a result of the assault — his latest album, Graffiti has stalled out short of 300,000 copies after nearly three months in stores. “Whatever [Woods’] personal life is, and this goes for me and him, his personal life is his personal life,” he said. “Nobody has the right to place judgment or make any judgment on anybody else’s personal life when they’re not directly involved with them.” Brown said he caught glimpses of the Woods apology on TV and opined, “He plays golf. That’s his sport, that’s his hobby, that’s his love, that’s what people love him for. They don’t love him for the other stuff that they talk about. … Even with me, I do music, I sing songs, I’m an entertainer, I’m a performer. But people make mistakes.” Asked if he would ever reach out to Woods, Brown said he’d rather be a fan from afar, confident that the golfer has people in his inner circle who can help him. “I think people have to realize that everybody’s human,” he said. “The good thing is, if you learn from your mistakes, then that’s a part of life. I think that’s a part of living and learning from mistakes and becoming a better person and growing from situations.” When it was suggested that some radio programmers were holding back on playing his music in the wake of the scandal, Brown said he believed he was being unfairly treated. “It’s not like I hold a grudge, though,” he said. “I know that people have their certain opinions, and certain people might come around … take a little bit more time to be as forgiving as other people.” Related Photos MTV.com Exclusive: Chris Brown Related Artists Chris Brown

Sarah Palin’s favorite teabagger centerfold has decided that he wants to vote with the Democrats. Do you think that will be a problem?

At about 6pm the office of Scott Brown, the new Republican Senator from Massachusetts, put out a short press release saying he would be voting with the Democrats on a $15 billion (£9.7 billion) job creation Bill heavily promoted by President Obama. Two veteran Republican Senators went in search of Mr Brown and tried to change his mind. They failed. He took his newcomer’s seat in the back of the Senate chamber and waited for Senator Harry Reid, a Democrat, to finish his pitch for the jobs Bill with a ritual taunt of Republicans who he assumed were “looking for ways not to vote for this”. Mr Brown then confounded Mr Reid by voting “yes” and told the instant throng of reporters that gathered round him as he emerged from the chamber: “I’m not from round here. I’m from Massachusetts”. What? The guy that the both the Republicans and teabaggers claim is a game changer and indicates the end of the Democratic party has voted with the Dems? Quick somebody check to see if Rush Limbaugh’s head has exploded (But then again how could we tell?) Un-surprisingly some of Brown’s more…shall we say….excitable supporters were very, very perturbed. This from Huffington Post . Over at Scott Brown’s Facebook page, the mood is much the same, probably because David Broder hasn’t written a column yet telling America that the jobs in this jobs bill are so much more awesome than the jobs that came before them because they are “bipartisan.” Some of Brown’s fans are giving him some support, but the lion’s share of comments read like “LYING LOW LIFE SCUM HYPOCRITE!” and “What a bummer dude. We didn’t need another Olympia Snowe,” and “BROWN, YOU JUST REMEMBER YOU DOUCHEBAG…WE ARE WATCHING YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! AND YOU FAILED AT THE FIRST CHANCE…YOU SCUM SUCKING ASS!!! GUESS MY 10-15 HOUR WORK DAYS WILL HELP PAY FOR THIS TOTAL BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!” Wow! And I thought people were pretty mad at ME yesterday! What I got was nothing compared to the vitriol aimed in this poor bastard’s direction. Well you know what comes next don’t you Senator Brown? Oh yes you do! You just wait until Sarah Palin can get that lazy Facebook ghostwriter back on the job, then my friend you are in for such a Facebook ass kicking you will not be able to walk straight for a month! Well that is if she and Todd can stop stressing about the Trig ear problem for a few minutes that is.

Rotten Tuna: Melanie Brown

I’ve done a lot of Rotten Tuna posts over the last few years but I think these take the Rotten Tuna cake. Here’s former Spice Girl Melanie Brown living up to her Scary Spice nickname with an absolutely rotten new haircut arriving at LAX the other day. What the hell is this sh#t all about? This better not have been on purpose, I hope that her hair got caught in some sort of dangerous heavy machinery and the only way to save herself was to chop it off. That’s the only reasonable explanation for doing this to yourself.

Chris Brown Releases Collaboration With Soulja Boy Tell’em On Mixtape

‘Bad’ makes its way onto the singer’s Valentine’s Day offering with DJ Drama, In My Zone. By Jayson Rodriguez Chris Brown Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Chris Brown ‘s much-discussed collaboration with Soulja Boy Tell’em was released over the weekend as a part of the singer’s Valentine’s Day mixtape effort with DJ Drama. The project, titled In My Zone, features a number of remakes, as Brown borrows notable songs such as Trey Songz’s “Say Aah” and “I Invented Sex” and Timbaland and Drake’s “Say Something.” The track with Soulja Boy, “Bad,” was initially slated for inclusion on Brown’s Graffiti album. He told MTV News about the track last November and described the number as “a nice little joint.” “Well, me and him, we been on tour together and we’re friends, so I was just like, ‘Yo, I gotta do a record with Soulja Boy,’ ” Brown explained of the tune, which was produced by Bangladesh (“A Milli,” “Diva”). “Because me and him are always gonna have, like, this kind of energy, just as far as kids, and with him, he does records that are, like, the easiest records ever. I’m not discrediting him, ’cause they’re big records, but he could talk about, ‘I got my shoes on, I got my hat on, but I’m fresh though,’ and it could be something funny. But it’s always something that can be catchy for kids, and I wanna do something that’s real cool for everybody.” “She looking at me, I’m looking at she, she’s bad as a mutha,” Brown sings over the staccato production. “She bad, she bad, she badder, hop up in my jag, my jag, my Jaguar,” the “Crank Dat” rapper spits. Soulja also spoke to MTV News last year about the track, saying if he and the “Crawl” star ever worked together the outcome would have to be phenomenal. “My approach to it was, if me and Chris Brown ever did a song together it got to be the best song ever,” he said. “When people hear it, it gotta be automatic, be in all the kids’ heads, all the girls definitely gotta love it, all the females gotta love it. That was my approach to it. I was just thinking, ‘What is the slickest lines I could say to a female to make them fall in love with this record?’ ” What do you think of Chris Brown and Soulja Boy Tell’em’s song “Bad”?
