Shaqtrepreneur Strikes Again: Shaq Just Signed An $8.25 Million Deal With Papa John’s To Join Their Board Of Directors

Source: Judy Eddy/WENN.com / WENN Shaq Is Now A Member Of Papa John’s Board Of Directors Is there ANYTHING Shaq can’t do?! In the midst of all their current business struggles, Papa John’s has found its next spokesman: Shaquille O’Neal–But he’s going to be doing a lot more than just selling a few pizzas. The Hall-of-Famer will also be joining Papa John’s board of directors, investing in nine Papa John’s stores in Atlanta, and becoming an ambassador for the brand in advertisements. The company is paying Shaq a hefty $8.25 million over three years for the endorsement deal. Time for a pizza party! I’m excited to join @PapaJohns as a member of the Board of Directors and investor in 9 stores in #Atlanta . Excited to work with Papa John’s team members and customers – more here: https://t.co/PRXG7ORtFk pic.twitter.com/c5uj5BRuQ1 — SHAQ (@SHAQ) March 22, 2019 “Shaquille has an excellent entrepreneurial background, including as a restaurant franchise owner, and is a natural creative marketer,” said Jeff Smith, chairman of Papa John’s board of directors. The former NBA baller also has extensive experience in the food business. He owns a Krispy Kreme Doughnuts franchise in Atlanta, a Big Chicken fast casual fried chicken joint in Las Vegas, and Shaquille’s restaurant in Los Angeles. Having Shaq on their team is a big move for Papa John’s, whose sales have declined for five straight quarters. The company first reported a slowdown in October 2017, when its founder John Schnatter blamed on the NFL’s handling of player protests . Schnatter  stepped down as CEO two months after the comments , which sparked a backlash and marked the beginning of the company’s rough patch. Will having Shaq in their advertisements or on their board of directors sway you to try some Papa John’s pizza any time in the future?!

Are You Here For It?! CVS Is Now Launching CBD Products, Soon To Be Available in 800 Locations

Source: Justin Sullivan / Getty CVS is officially getting into the business of offering its customers CBD products–and that’s a pretty big deal. In a statement to FOX Business , the drugstore chain said that it started selling CBD products–or products with cannabidiol–which is the non-psychoactive component of marijuana, last week in select states across the country. Curaleaf Holdings Inc. has announced that CVS is going to sell its CBD products in roughly 800 locations upon launch, per MarketWatch’s report on a Curaleaf earnings conference call held on Wednesday. CVS currently stands as the biggest drugstore chain in the entire nation, so this move is a huge step in the latest coup for cannabis commerce at large. “We have partnered with CBD product manufacturers that are complying with applicable laws and that meet CVS’s high standards for quality,” a company representative said about the announcement, adding that “as of last week” CBD products including creams and lotions were already being sold at locations in eight different states. More than 800 stores in Alabama, California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, and Tennessee will now offer CBD products as part of a distribution deal with Canadian marijuana company Curaleaf Holdings Inc. Cannabis is currently legal for medicinal use in 33 states and D.C., with 10 states boasting the full-blown recreational legalization distinction. As a result, the legal weed industry bagged a whopping $10.4 billion in 2018 alone. CBD is not really what anyone is looking for in terms of a achieving a recreational high, but for some reason, it is still a source of mild controversy for some. Outgoing Food and Drug Administration (FDA) commissioner Scott Gottlieb predicted earlier this month that without some sort of action at the congressional level, the development of agency rules and regulations on the use of hemp-extracted cannabidiol in food could take years. CBD has been getting a lot of publicity from people suffering from certain mental health issues, with claims that it helps ease anxiety and other conditions. The product recently received a raving public testimonial from Lamar Odom , who partially credits it with saving his life. “It’s a perfect time to offer these cannabis solutions to the public who may be going through similar body issues as I am,” Odom told   The Blast  last year. Following the news of CVS’ new product addition, CEO Larry Merlo said on CNBC  that the move was prompted by its customers, who have used CBD products in the past and said it helped with pain relief for arthritis and other ailments. Are you here for this?!

Beyond Hip Hop: Rapsody Talks Acting Goals, Tomboy Style & The Tardy Tenacity Of Ms. Lauryn Hill

Read more from the original source:

Source: @photosbynae / iOne Digital As one of North Carolina’s top-tier M.C.’s, Rapsody has created a comfortable space for herself in the rap game. With her lauded album Laila’s Wisdom under her belt, along with celebrated mixtapes and memorable features with folks like Kendrick Lamar , Rapsody is now looking to take on other endeavors. This definitely doesn’t mean she’s quitting the rap game. Instead, she hopes to exercise more aspects of her creative side. Rapsody stopped by Global Grind on International Women’s Day to discuss some of these burgeoning interests: “I have so many other loves,” Rapsody said. “Like I was a big reader as a kid. I went to the library all the time, so for that, I want to write children’s books.” Rapsody also has the dramatic arts on her mind: “I’d love to get into acting, but I want to do it right. You know I’ve been sent several scripts, but I told my agent to hold off because I really want to take classes and really learn about the art of acting. Like I would want somebody trying to enter the hip hop world to be respectful of the culture and learn the art of M.C.ing, I want to learn how to be a great actor.” The 36-year-old listed Cicely Tyson and Phylicia Rashad as her biggest influences: “If I can have the chance to share a screen with them. Even if I was the person who came in and put the milk on the table. Just to be in that space and just to have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and wisdom because they’ve been in the arts forever.” Inspirational Black women have been a common theme in Rapsody’s career. Although she’s listed people like Jay-Z as a major influence on her rhyming, women like Ms. Lauryn Hill set a standard right when Rapsody needed it. Since Hill’s seminal work The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,  she hasn’t acquired the best reputation when it comes to showing up on time for shows or even creating a good relationship with certain band mates ( according to Robert Glasper ). However, Rapsody says there’s always more to an artist than what’s put into the public: “Lauryn runs her business the way Lauryn wants to run her business,” Rapsody said, “It’s two sides to every story. Robert told his, Lauryn told hers. It’s none of my business. It’s not my place to critique as far as her shows or her lateness.” Rapsody also doesn’t let the tough talk diminish Ms. Hill’s impact on her life: “You know, for me, I always say Lauryn was on time when we needed her. When I needed Lauryn in ’98 and ’96, she was on time, so to me, she’s allowed to be late. I think the industry has been trying to run her for her life, so for her to take control of what she wants to do and do it her way, I applaud her on that.” Rapsody went on to detail the various reasons Hill could be late to a show: “You know as a mother, putting your children first, I’m never mad at that. You gotta be late because you got something to do with your kids, then do that. You know at this point, if you know she’s going to be late and you ain’t with it, then don’t buy the ticket. If you decide to go, take some Uno cards just in case. I’m just in the business of appreciating Lauryn while she’s here.” Just like Ms. Hill set a blueprint for many women to come, Rapsody hopes to follow that same path with music, the arts and even fashion one day: “I definitely want to do my own clothing line at some point. Maybe like some tomboy feminine-type style ’cause women that are tomboys are sexy too, so I want to create a space for that.” If Cicely Tyson, Phylicia Rashad and Ms. Hill have taught us anything, it’s that there’s always space.

Martin Shkreli In Prison: Illegally Running His Business, Hanging With a Dude Named Krispy

It’s been about 16 months since Martin Shkreli was sentenced to seven years in prison . You probably remember Shkreli as the “Pharma Bro” (though we’ve always preferred the “Pharma Douche” variation on that nickname) who jacked up the price of a life-saving medication for HIV patients a whopping 5,000% percent during his tenure as CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals. That act of pure evil made Shkreli “the most hated man in America.” (Of course, his constant trolling of the Wu-Tang Clan didn’t help. Did no one inform this guy they’re nothing to f–k with?) But it was Shkreli’s unrelated conviction for securities fraud that earned him seven-year stay in federal prison. Shkreli is a devoted member of MAGA nation, but he never climbed the ladder of insanity high enough to get the full Manafort treatment, so the Donald isn’t sticking his neck out by pardoning Lil Marty. But fear not, the hip hop obsessed Hillary hater is making the most of his life behind bars, as revealed in a hilarious new profile of Shkreli published this week by the Wall Street Journal. The paper promises a glimpse into “the secret life of inmate 87850-053, 16 months into a seven-year sentence,” and boy, does it deliver. The most talked-about revelation from the Journal piece is that Shkreli is still acting as CEO of his company (newly-named Phoenixus AG in response to numerous PR nightmares) with the aid of a contraband cell phone. And while you might think that his time behind bars would have humbled Shkreli a bit, it seems he’s still a nightmare to work for. The Journal reports that one of Shkreli’s most recent actions was to call his CFO and fire the guy while he was on an African vacation with his fiancee. The problem, it seems, is that the exec picked the wrong time to ask for a seven-figure (?!?!) raise. You see, Shkreli is stretched thin these days, what with paying for protection and covering his fellow inmates’ poker debts (seriously). Marty was already feeling the pinch, and since the fired exec won’t be shanking anyone in the yard for him, he had to be let go. So who are the movers and shakers on Shkreli’s prison payroll? Well, it seems he’s got a crew of guys with names like “Krispy” and “D-Block.” According to the Journal , these up-and-comers “walk alongside him in the hall to ward off shenanigans from other inmates,” which is exactly how we would expect the Wall Street Journal to cover prison politics. But Krispy and D-Block do more than just keep Shkreli from physical harm. They recently dissuaded him from playing guitar in a prison rock band, as the other members were all locked up for child molestation. They’re also helping Marty with his goal of doing — we sh-t you not — 15 push-ups in a row. We encourage you to take a moment to reflect on how gloriously f–ked this dude would be, were it not for the fact that he’s mega-rich. But it’s not just money that keeps Shkreli’s associates loyal (j/k, that’s exactly what it is). The 35-year-old recently attempted to bolster his street cred by asking his Facebook followers to translate Meek Mill lyrics into Spanish for him. And in exchange, the Shkreli crew bestowed upon their boss the ultimate honor — a prison nickname. That nickname? A-hole.

Source: NicolasMcComber / Getty This is strange, to say the least. A man and his dog are making headlines after being trapped in a car for five days—apparently, the Oregon resident and his furry pal survived the business week by eating taco sauce packets. These weren’t just any taco sauce packets, however…Jeremy Taylor specifically mentions Taco Bell’s Fire Sauce. From HuffPost : “An Oregon man may have a good argument for not cleaning out your car. Jeremy Taylor told authorities that he and his dog survived by eating packets of taco sauce as they were trapped by snow in his vehicle for five days. The 36-year-old, who goes offroading in the area, said he drove up west of the resort community of Sunriver with his dog, Ally, when his SUV became stuck in snow last Sunday, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said. He spent the night in his vehicle and attempted to walk for help on Monday, but had difficulty because of the amount of snow that had fallen, authorities said.” “Jeremy stayed warm over the next four days by periodically starting his vehicle and used a few taco sauce packets he had as food,” Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said before thanking everyone who assisted in the search. [ione_media_gallery src=”https://globalgrind.cassiuslife.com” id=”4283064″ overlay=”true”] So, we know what they ate while they were stuck in the car, but how did Jeremy and Ally finally get home ? It turns out it was a random snowmobile rider who saved the day. HuffPost reports: “It wasn’t until Friday afternoon that a snowmobile rider spotted his car and called 911. Taylor and his dog were described as hungry but otherwise in good condition.” Once he got home and settled in Jeremy reportedly went on Facebook to update his friends, describing himself as lucky according to the site, adding “Let’s never do that again.” When asked by a friend about the taco sauce that helped him out when he was in a bind, he reportedly responded “Taco Bell Fire Sauce saves lives.” We’ll have to remember that. Here are more tips to survive the snow, provided by HuffPost: “If a driver becomes trapped in snow, it’s advised that the car’s motor is run for just 10 minutes every hour to provide warmth while preserving fuel. If the vehicle is covered or surrounded by snow, first ensure that the exhaust pipe is not blocked before turning on the vehicle so that carbon monoxide doesn’t enter.” Also Click here for the full list of items drivers should carry in extremely cold weather…you know, besides Taco Bell’s Fire Sauce of course.

Nicole holds a master’s degree in counseling and psychology. “Women can be so self-sufficient and self-sacrificing that sometimes we can forget the importance of self-care,” she told the Daytona Times . “I knew I wanted to create something that I could relate to because representation matters, plus coloring was like therapy for me. Coloring allows us to switch our brains off from other thoughts and focus and concentrate only on the moment which can help decrease stress.” She also has another book in her Entrepreneurs Color Too series called 80’s Ladies which includes popular fashion trends from the 80s and 90s. Nicole has taken her mission to inspire and empower women beyond her coloring books. She has also created e-courses, books and journals to help women entrepreneurs grow their business.
