Talkback: Should Studio Heads Be as Candid as Universal’s Ron Meyer?

I was traveling all day as Movieline’s report from the Savannah Film Festival picked up steam around the blogosphere, but early on it was clear that two polar-opposite reactions were building in response to Universal Studios chief Ron Meyer’s comments about his studio’s well-publicized (at least, outside of the studio) recent flops. Either you love his blazing moment of candor — because we’ve all thought the same about most, if not all, of the woeful Universal films mentioned — or you despise what he stands for. But Meyer is a businessman, the President and COO of one of the largest movie studios and theme park conglomerates in the business. Should more filmmakers and studio heads follow suit?

Lady Gaga To Host Thanksgiving Special

Singer will perform eight songs on ABC’s ‘A Very Gaga Thanksgiving,’ on November 24. Lady Gaga Photo: Alo Ceballos/FilmMagic It’s going to be “A Very Gaga Thanksgiving.” No, that’s not some joke about your Aunt Frannie showing up in a turkey dress for the annual family gathering, it’s the actual name of the 90-minute prime time Lady Gaga Thanksgiving special that will air on ABC on November 24. The show, which will team Gaga with veteran TV news announcer Katie Couric, was, of course, conceived and directed by Mother Monster herself and will feature the singer performing eight songs in front of a small audience of her friends and family, according to a press release announcing the show. Couric will also sit down for an interview in which she asks Gaga about the inspiration for some of her songs as the two chat at Gaga’s New York alma mater, Sacred Heart Catholic School. “We all know Lady Gaga is a phenomenon,” Couric said in a statement. “This is a chance to see more of who she is beneath the wild costumes and staged musical numbers … Lady Gaga as a high school student still bruised by being excluded from the party, Lady Gaga as a devoted daughter and caring sister, Lady Gaga as a 25-year-old woman embracing fame and fortune that seemed to come overnight. She will impress you, delight you and surprise you.”
In addition to her new single, “Marry the Night,” and other songs from Born This Way (“You and I,” “The Edge of Glory”), Gaga will perform “White Christmas” and her duet with Tony Bennett, “The Lady Is a Tramp.” Chef Art Smith will also drop in to share some recipes on the special, including his holiday classic, deep-fried turkey and waffles. The always busy Mother Monster has other plans cooking up this month. She’ll hit the U.K. “X Factor” for a performance on Sunday, November 13, where’ll also sing “Marry the Night.” Related Videos Lady Gaga: Inside The Outside Track By Track: Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Related Artists Lady Gaga

Justin Bieber Addresses Paternity Suit On ‘Today’

‘I know I’m going to be a target, but I’m never going to be a victim,’ Bieber says. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber on the “Today” show on Friday Photo: NBC As more details surface about the paternity suit filed by 20-year-old Mariah Yeater against Justin Bieber , the pop singer is addressing the allegations head on. Earlier this week, Bieber released a statement saying, “it’s sad that someone would fabricate malicious, defamatory and demonstrably false claims,” and tweeted , “so I’m going to ignore the rumors … and focus on what is real. An opportunity to help by doing what i love. Judge me on the music! Love y’all!” When he stopped by the “Today” show on Friday morning (November 4) to promote his latest album, Under The Mistletoe, Bieber also spoke candidly about Yeater’s claims. “I’d just like to say basically that none of those allegations are true,” he told Matt Lauer. “I know I’m going to be a target, but I’m never going to be a victim.” Yeater claims she had unprotected sex with Bieber a year ago in a backstage area at one of the singer’s concerts and that her 3-month-old baby is his. According to an upcoming issue of Star magazine, “in a hand-signed affidavit, sworn under the penalty of perjury, Yeater told a California court that Bieber propositioned her on October 25 of last year, when she was 19. The pair had a sexual tryst after his concert and backstage at L.A.’s Staples Center, it’s alleged in court papers.” Bieber explained on “Today” that the logistics of her claim don’t fit with his hectic schedule. “I think it’s crazy because every night after the show, I’ve gone right from the stage right to my car,” he explained. “So it’s crazy that some people want to make up some false allegations, but to set the record straight, none of it is true. Never met the woman.” While the case is ongoing, Bieber is focusing on the positive, which includes his charity work. “Like I said before, there’s going to be good and going to be bad about this business and I want to focus on what’s real, like my fans are real, the charity work that I’m doing with this album is real and this is real,” he said speaking about all the fans that showed up at Rockefeller Plaza to catch a glimpse of the teen star. “I do it for these guys and I’m really happy to be here in New York and it’s been fun.” Related Artists Justin Bieber

Moms: Why Residual Income Is Your Key To Financial Freedom

View post:

Are you searching for some residual income ideas? Perhaps you are looking for ways to earn a second income or generate enough money for retirement. Whatever the reason, residual income is probably the best way to reach your financial goals. First of all, let us define residual income. The easiest definition is that this type of income is getting paid over and over again for work you did one time. Think of an actor in a commercial. Once an actor does a TV commercial one time, he or she is paid on that TV spot as long as it runs, which could be years and years. But what about the average person without any acting skills like you and I who have limited time and/or money to get started. One residual income idea is network marketing. Network marketing has received a negative reputation throughout the years mainly because of a high failure rate. That is due to the fact that people who enter the profession don’t take their business serious or don’t know the first thing about marketing. However, if done properly, it can produce incredible riches. In fact, there are more millionaires made in the network marketing profession than any other business industry in the world. And it is endorsed by moguls such as Donald Trump, Warren Buffet and Robert Kiyosaki. Finding a vehicle that will produce residual income will get you on the right track to becoming financially free and creating long-term wealth for you and your family. NERVO’s Video Shoot For ‘We’re All No One’ Was ‘Scary’

‘It was the first-ever video t we didn’t know what to expect,’ Mim tells MTV News.hat we’ve been in, so By Christina Garibaldi Mim and Liv of NERVO Photo: MTV News Aussie twins NERVO (Liv and Mim) have made quite a name for themselves as one of the most-sought-after DJ duos in dance music. They’ve written hit songs for some of the biggest artists in the business (Ke$ha, David Guetta, Kylie Minogue) and spent their summer as an opening act on Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale Tour . Now it’s their turn to step up to the mic. Last month, the sister duo dropped “We’re All No One,” the first single they’ve released through Astralwerks/EMI and the first major-label release on which the girls show off their vocal skills. The song, which features superstar DJs Afrojack and Steve Aoki, may seem like a departure for the girls, but fear not NERVO fans: That’s how they planned it. “We really wanted our first record through Astralwerks to be different to everything that we’ve done for other artists,” Mim explained. “And we also wanted the collaboration aspect to be with the people within our family.” Last week, the video for “We’re All No One,” directed by DJ Skeet, premiered on MTVu and MTV’s new dance-music hour, “Clubland,” and on Monday, the girls stopped by MTV News’ studio to talk about the finished product. “It was kind of scary because it was the first-ever video that we’ve been in, so we didn’t know what to expect,” Mim said. “But in the end, there was a little bit of back-and-forth — ‘Can we change this?’ ‘Can we do this?’ — but we are happy with the end result.” This carefree video features the girls hanging out with their friends, cruising the streets on their bikes and in cars, and finishing it all off with a late-night pool party. It seems like the perfect way to spend a laid-back summer day, but according to these girls, looks can be deceiving. “It was so boiling,” Liv said of the extreme heat during the shoot. “It must have been like, I’m not really good with Fahrenheit, but it must have been like 130 [degrees] or something in that car.” Mim added, “In the car was unbearable. Not unbearable, almost unbearable because there was no air-conditioning, obviously because it was an old car, and we were shooting at a time of day when it was quite warm.” The girls weren’t the only ones that suffered in the heat: Both Afrojack and Steve Aoki made cameos in the video as well. “We’re like, ‘Guys, can you be in the video?’ ” Liv recalled. “And we wanted it to be something that they would be comfortable doing. Like a cameo role, but not them DJing because we all DJ, and none of us are actors. But Steve did an amazing job as the actor in the department store, and Afrojack is just really cool driving a car. It suits him.” What do you think of the “We’re All No One” video? Let us know in the comments. Related Artists NERVO

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Calls Out Derek Hough, Won’t Apologize to Dancing With the Stars Judges

Maksim Chmerkovskiy sort of backed off his comments Monday about Dancing With the Stars being “his” show, but is still plenty pissed at the judges. Chmerkovskiy laid into Len Goodman , Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli after what he believed were scathing, personal critiques of his routine with Hope Solo. Lacey Schwimmer and Chaz Bono , who were eliminated Tuesday night, felt similarly and supported Maksim, but Ricki Lake’s partner Derek Hough took the judges’ side. That drew a stinging rebuke from Chmerkovskiy … “Derek Hough has been very supportive of his personal career on the show,” Maksim said in an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America . “With all due respect, if I had Nicole Scherzinger followed by Jennifer Grey followed by Ricki Lake, I probably would not be upset with the judges either.” Maksim wishes he hadn’t said in the heat of the moment that DWTS is “his” show and he is the reason for its success, acknowledging it’s a team effort. But he won’t praise the judges, either. “I had a long conversation with my dad and I don’t regret anything,” he reflected on GMA . “That’s why I think I’m misunderstood in this situation.” “Everyone is waiting for me to bow my head and plead for forgiveness. I have nothing to apologize for. I’m in the business because I love it.” “The one thing I’m not going to embrace is pointing fingers and disrespectful remarks,” he explained. “Why are judges allowed to compare us to animals and point their fingers and then we can’t say our side and show our opinion?” “I can’t really lose with remarks like this.” Whose side are you on?

Laura Govan: “I’m Myself From The Beginning, I’m Not A Fronter” [EXCLUSIVE]

The rest is here:

This season of “Basketball Wives LA” has been filled with over the top drama! From the first fight with Laura and Malaysia to the current drama with Draya, it’s hard to keep up with who likes who and who’s talking about who. After talking with Draya recently, I knew that I had to find out more about what is really happening on this show. I caught up with Laura and asked her for her side of the story! Of course, Laura is no stranger to the media. As Gloria’s sister, we heard her mentioned plenty of times on the first season of “Basketball Wives” due to dating rumors between her and other NBA players. Laura definitely cleared all those rumors up! She dished on the drama with her and Jackie, her feelings toward Draya and even a little bit about her rocky relationship with her fiance. Take a look at what Laura had to say below! HelloBeautiful : We watch the show every single week and the very first question that popped in my head is, what the heck is Jackie talking about? She’s been going around saying that you’ve been talking about her negatively behind her back, calling her fat amongst other things. Is she making things up? Laura: Honestly, I have no idea what Jackie is talking about. You’ll see what’s to come. A lot of things are starting to be revealed. When you hang out with someone for a long period of time, his or her personality is eventually revealed, but I’m not like that. I’m myself from the beginning. I’m not a “fronter”. I am who I am; there are no surprises with me. I show you exactly who I am from the beginning. It’s so funny when you see it play out. It’s like on a first date people are pretending to be something they’re not, but with me you get the real me from the start. Like I’ll burp, I’ll fart. That’s just me! I’m real. Omni Shoreham Hotel in Northwest Washington an Urban Oasis Single Black Women Tired of Being a Spectacle HB: Why did you dislike Draya so much this season? What are your feelings toward Draya now? Laura : It played out on the show that we have beef but in reality, we’re cool. It’s no animosity and no drama. It wasn’t even like that. What was really a two-hour filming session, you saw it edited into two minutes. HB: What was the real reason you went in on Draya in the boxing ring? Did you plan that fight or did it just randomly happen? Laura: You know, I’m the same way with my sister [Gloria]. I’m very athletic and I’m very competitive. If that was mom I would have been lenient but outside of that you get in the ring with me and I’m going to start going in. Draya said she wanted to come in I was like “okay”. If it would have been any of them I would have went just as hard. I did the same thing with my sister! So it wasn’t intentional or me just going hard on Draya because she’s Draya, I’m just competitive by nature. HB: What made you and Jackie dig up dirt on Draya in the first place? Do you really believe the stories about Draya and her son are true? Laura: That’s really none of my business. I didn’t care to look her up. We were asked to do so. I feel like it was a mistake and I even said that on the show. I don’t believe everything I read. It’s hard because people twist and turn your words and don’t write down exactly what you say. That’s her child. I’m passionate about being a mom, but that’s her life. That’s one thing I can look back and say that I wasn’t interested in doing. I was thinking, “this is dumb”. HB: How do you respond to rumors that you’ve dated other NBA players? Laura: I don’t say anything to them. People are going to believe what they want to believe regardless, that comes from being uneducated. I’m at fault for that too. I used to read stuff and be like “Oh my gosh!” so I get it. But now being in the industry, I’m always like “is that really true?” I don’t put effort into it anymore. I don’t really care as far as what people say about me because I can’t change everyone’s mind. When you meet me, people say I’m so nice and so sweet but you don’t get that on TV, you get the drama. I know how to portray the difference between who I am but it’s hard to see people go at you all the time so now I don’t read it or deal with it. The only people I care about are the people who care about me: my close friends, my fiancé and my family. HB : Wow, fiancé?!  How are things going with your relationship now? Are they better since the show? Laura : Things are going great! You know, he’s been my fiance, for a while now. On the show, people think that the reality that they are seeing is actually happening right now, and people don’t get it. But we were together for a while going into it. Were not shy about it. It’s been about 10 years of ups and downs but it just what it is. HB: Do you still keep in touch with any of the other girls from the show besides your sister? Laura : I do! I actually talk to all of them here and there. I’m really close to Imani and Malaysia and when I see Jackie, Tanya and Draya it’s all love. At the end of the day, we’re working together. I support them all. How many of us can say we’re doing things on our own? Think of it like this, we’re co-workers. It’s not cool to go into work and hate each other. As a woman, I’m cool with everybody. Even if we have beef, it’s of that moment. I never let it continue. We fight and keep it moving. HB: How do you think being on “Basketball Wives LA” has changed you ? Laura: It has changed me completely. I was over 200 pounds on the show and I had just given birth. I lost like 70-80 pounds since then. Other than the physical changes, I would say that it’s been therapy because you got to get a lot of things out that you normally couldn’t share with people. Seeing yourself on camera, seeing how big you are looking and how your hair looks and even your fashion. I don’t take it personally, I had a good time! I’d say that it’s mainly changed my sense of style and me caring more about my appearance.  Other than that, I’m the same me! HB: Do you think we will see another season? Laura: You guys have to stay tuned! Keep the fingers crossed. I think it was a good turn out and we had a good time. Ratings are high so I’m excited! I’m sure we may have one. HB : Are you working on any new projects? Laura: Well first, everyone follow me on twitter @l4govan! I have some kids books coming out because of course I’m always reading to my kids and I figured I would put out some kids books myself.  I also have a 12-step workout plan coming out because people always ask me how I lost so much weight so I want to share that with people. I want to motivate them on how to lose weight after having a child. I’m also making a maternity line for women after they’ve given birth because it was so hard to find any clothes that fit me after I had a baby. Your belly is still hanging out and you still look pregnant! It was so hard, so I wanted to make something that when you get it in, you still feel great. And now the 5 questions we always ask…. What’s in your bag? I’m such a mom! I have diapers, wipes, bottles, baby food, Cosco card, lip gloss, mascara, hair tie, cell phone, wallet, ID, credit cars, only 20 bucks because I don’t like to carry cash, iPhone with music for kids and a lot of snacks! If  you were forced to get a tattoo what would it be of? I already have five tattoos. So I guess if I were forced it would have to be anything Mexican. I’m Mexican and I represent hard. It would have to be something Spanish and something about my family. Something like a quote or a sentence. What’s your vice and where do you go to get it Twix, I’m addicted like a crack head! Like you’ll find me in a closet with two pieces of Twix secretly eating them everyday! I also love chocolate chip cookies but I need the chocolate chips in the cookies so I can pick them out- weird I know. What’s one urge you get but never act on it? To jump off a roof. I don’t know why. I used to jump off the roof when I was little and would be trying to sneak out the house to go play basketball at night. I always want to do that now but I look at that roof and I’m like “Oh no”. When was the last time you cried? The other day my son got his 4 month shot! I was in tears in the hallway at the doctor! The doctor is like “we’ve done it for 4 years”! Only over my kids!
