Even though Robert Downey Jr. welcomed a baby girl this week, the Iron Man icon has recently been expressing some views that are likely to make even the most forgiving of feminists cringe. The first incident occurred while RDJ was discussing the possibility of Scarlett Johansson appearing in her own Avengers spinoff film during a panel discussion at Cambridge University. Asked if he “believe[s] in feminism,” Downey replied, “You bastard. Yeah, that’s all make believe, son.” Tough to read that response. Downey’s a sarcastic chap and he could’ve just been having fun with the college kid crowd. The other incident, however, leaves little room for interpretation: British television personality Lorraine Kelly claims that prior to a recent interview with Downey, the actor “blurted out, ‘Nice tits.'” Kelly says she was shocked at first, but she proceeded with the interview and took the comment in stride: “It could have been worse,” she said in a recent interview. “He could have said, ‘Oh, I don’t like them!’ It’s a difficult thing to respond to.” Yes, whether Downey is photobombing fans or complimenting the breasts of a revered British journalist, he’s got a Tony Stark-like ability to say things that would get most men smacked and get a smile in response instead. Whether or not he should say things like that, well…that’s a different story. Hopefully he doesn’t try that crap with Gwyneth Paltrow on the Iron Man set. Prince George, Kate Middleton and Prince William appear in a new family picture together for the first time since October, and it was worth the wait. William released the latest family photograph, a charming and stunning snapshot of their 8-month-old baby boy with the family dog Lupo, on Saturday: The Duke, 31, and Duchess Kate Middleton , 32, are seen perched by a windowsill at their home, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, with their son. Looking happy and flawless as always, Kate holds onto Prince George as he gazes at Lupo, who the heir to the throne has his arm wrapped around. The royal baby, needless to say, is beyond adorable with his hair growing out and his blue-colored sweater with “George” written across the front of it. Royals. They’re just like us. Sort of. You know in India “Caste Matters .” According to MailOnline reports : An Indian court on Monday found a dentist couple guilty of murdering their 14-year-old daughter and a servant five years ago, in a dramatic finale to a case that transfixed the country and tapped unease on both sides of the rich-poor divide. Aarushi Talwar was found with her throat slit at the family home in Noida, an affluent town of new shopping malls and offices near Delhi, in 2008. A day later, the body of the Nepalese family servant, Hemraj, was discovered. Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were convicted in a local court in Ghaziabad, near Noida, and remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on Tuesday – they could face the death penalty. Early in the investigation, police alleged Rajesh had murdered his daughter and servant in a rage after finding them in a compromising situation – the kind of crime more often associated with rural, conservative parts of India where ‘honor killings’ are not uncommon. Naresh Yadav, a lawyer present in court, told reporters waiting outside that the couple and members of their family broke down in tears when the verdict was read out. But the case was plagued with blunders from the start. In the hours after Aarushi, was found dead in her bedroom, police named Hemraj as the prime suspect. They even dispatched a team to Nepal to look for him. But the housekeeper wasn’t missing – his body was discovered lying on a terrace above Aarushi’s room. It had been there the whole time. The Talwars came under suspicion early on, and police said the manner of the girl’s death suggested she was killed with surgical precision, a clear nod to the Talwars’ medical profession. SMH. Can’t believe they thought they would get away with it. Both parents were later charged, but the Talwars always denied the murder and blamed sensational media coverage for demonizing them and damaging their defense. They also described a Kafkaesque trail of botched police operations, arrests, ‘truth serum’ tests and contradictory rulings by different investigative bodies. Much has been made in the media of the fact that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), India’s federal detective agency, relied on circumstantial evidence to pursue the Talwars. R.K. Saini, representing the CBI, defended the prosecution. ‘There were so many circumstances that proved that no one could have committed the murder other than the two accused,’ he said. Rebecca John, one of the lawyers representing the Talwars, said they would appeal the ruling in a higher court. ‘We are deeply disappointed, hurt and anguished for being convicted for a crime that we have not committed,’ the Talwars said in a statement. ‘We refuse to feel defeated and will continue to fight for justice.’ Horrific crime stories are common in India and many involve caste or class. But the Aarushi case, in which police named Hemraj as the murder suspect before his body was found, resonated with the rapidly expanding number of well-off families who fret that their wealth makes them vulnerable to violence. Dipankar Gupta, a sociologist at Shiv Nadar University in Uttar Pradesh – the state where Noida is located – said the case highlighted how domestic staff were frequently abused by employers in India. ‘But at least now there is some progress and people are talking about it,’ he said. Newspapers this month reported the case of a wife of a member of parliament who allegedly tortured a maid to death at her home in Delhi. This is so sad. We feel for the family of that servant and that poor girl who lost her life before even really having a chance to experience anything!

White Woman From Massachusetts Might Win Arabs Got Talent Via Gawker reports: Jennifer Grout, a white, 23-year-old classically trained singer from Cambridge, Massachusetts, might win a Got Talent competition is not really news. That she might win the Arab world’s version of the popular talent show is. Grout, who barely speaks Arabic, took the show’s judges by surprise when she showed up on stage to sing “Baeed Annak” (Away from You) by iconic Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum. But the judges were practically floored when her performance was not only capable, but actually impressive. “You don’t speak a word of Arabic, yet you sing better than some Arab singers!” judge Najwa Karam, a Lebanese singer, told Grout. “We have for so long imitated the West, and this the first time that a person who has no whatsoever link to the Arab world, an American girl who does not speak Arabic, sings Arabic songs!” Thus Grout became the first non-Arab to advance to the show’s finals. Born to musicians, Grout was trained to sing in a variety of languages under the tutelage of McGill University voice teacher Thérèse Sevadjian. She first fell in love with Arab music three years ago, when she happened across an article about Lebanese diva Fairouz. Learning how to play the oud, Grout began performing Arabic songs in Montreal, and later moved to Morocco in order to be closer to her music scene. She sounds amazing. Should she be allowed to do this, though? Isn’t this cultural appropriation?
