Prince George Christening: Photos & Details Galore!

Prince George’s christening took place today at St. James Palace in London, with parents Kate Middleton and Prince William beaming proudly from ear to ear. As the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge pulled up in a dark blue sedan and made their way to the courtyard, a tiny cry could be heard from the guest of honor. William held his baby boy, who was wearing the traditional lace-and-silk baptismal robe, first fashioned for Queen Victoria’s son, the future King Edward VII, in 1841. Kate Middleton wore a cream-colored skirt suit and matching fascinator by Alexander McQueen, whose creative director, Sarah Burton, also designed her wedding dress. She also donned a matching hat by Jane Taylor and had her long hair brushed to the side for the special event, which was small by royal standards. The queen and her husband Prince Philip attended the event Wednesday, along with Prince Charles, his wife Camilla, Prince Harry and other royals. Kate’s parents Michael and Carole, and her sister Pippa Middleton and brother James Middleton were also on the guest list, but not many more made the cut. Prince George Christened Prince George Waves at Christening William and Kate have asked seven people to be Prince George’s godparents . His cousin Zara Phillips is on the list, which consists mostly of old friends. Born on July 22, the youngster is third in line for the British throne. Pippa Middleton read from the Gospel of St. Luke and Prince Harry read from the Gospel of St. John at the intimate gathering, palace officials said. Palace officials said tradition would be followed and water from the River Jordan – where Christians believe Jesus Christ was baptized – would be used. Prince Charles and wife Camilla plan to host a private tea afterward at their Clarence House residence, following the taking of some formal portraits. Expect a multi-generational photograph of the queen with three future monarchs: her son Charles, her grandson William and her great-grandson George. Palace reps confirmed that “the Duchess is to be discharged from the hospital.” The new family are expected to briefly go back inside the facility, put the newborn in his car seat, and then head home to Kensington Palace this evening. Royals. They’re just like us. Kate Middleton and Prince William, both 31, smiled for hundreds of cameras and cheering well-wishers while offering the first glimpse of their little one. “He’s got a good pair of lungs on him that’s for sure. He’s a good boy, he’s quite heavy,” said William of his son, who Kate gave birth to on Monday. The youngster weighed a healthy 8 lbs., 6 oz. “It’s the first time we’ve seen him, really we haven’t had a proper chance to catch up,” William added. Added the tired, but glowing new mother, “It’s such a special time.” “I think any parent probably sort of knows what this feeling is like.” William added: “I’ll remind him of his tardiness when he’s a bit older!” Well played, you guys. Then there was this zinger: Added William: “He’s got her looks, thankfully.” As for the name, he said they’re “still working on” one. So don’t hold your breath for that announcement today … though they’ll likely pick one soon! Back in 1982, an infant William made his own world debut as parents Princess Diana and Prince Charles introduced him on the very same steps. Diana wore polka dots, not unlike Kate today. Kate Middleton Gives Birth to Royal Baby: It’s a BOY!

The royal baby is here! The royal baby is here! After many weeks of keeping the masses waiting on pins and needles and keeping us guessing as to her due date, Kate Middleton has given birth. She and Prince William have welcomed a baby boy! A royal aide just announced the joyful news moments ago with a proclamation signed by the doctors who delivered the little HRH Prince of Cambridge! Well, not SO little. His weight (8 pounds, 6 ounces) and the time of its birth (4:24 p.m.) were confirmed, along with the gender, via press release. An official gun salute in London’s Hyde Park is expected shortly, and the bells of St Paul’s Cathedral are already ringing in honor of the future King. Ever since Kate went into labor early Monday morning, Royal Baby Watch 2013 reached a fever pitch outside London’s St. Mary’s Hospital and worldwide. Now that it’s over, it’s finally cause for celebration. Kate Middleton and Prince William did not find out the gender beforehand, setting off a national guessing game (and online betting frenzy) for months. They kept all facets of her pregnancy as private and low-key as possible. When Kate and William did finally arrive at the hospital this morning, they did it their way, with no fanfare, no sirens and not even a police escort. Just a dark Range Rover and a shiny new Audi nosing their way calmly through the traffic-free streets of London after dawn, cagily evading the media. William has been by his wife’s side all week as they moved from Kate’s parents house to Kensington Palace, just a mile from the hospital, last weekend. Queen Elizabeth II now has three living heirs: Prince Charles, her eldest son, William, his eldest son, and the first-born son of William and Kate. And, Her Majesty gets to go on holiday without missing this now. Phew! Charles said: “Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine.” “We are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy,” he adds. “We are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.” The official confirmation notice says very little, only that Kate was “safely delivered of a son” and she and the baby are doing well. Check it out: The succession rules were recently changed so that for the first time ever, Will and Kate’s first baby would become the heir(ess), regardless of gender. That was cool, but in the end, the traditionalists got their wish. Our heartfelt congratulations to Kate, William, their families and everyone in the UK on the most celebrated moment since Andy Murray won Wimbledon ! Just kidding. Although that was pretty cool to see, too. It is now hoped that the boy’s name might be announced as soon as tomorrow. The oddsmakers’ favorite is George … what do you think they should name him?   Albert Arthur Frederick George James Philip Edward Henry Something else (list in comments) View Poll »

The Interior Minister of France has confirmed that a train derailment in Paris today has left at least seven people dead and many more injured. Royal Baby Watch: Buzz Builds Outside Maternity Wing, But No Birth Yet

Royal Baby Watch 2013 is in full effect as Kate Middleton ‘s due date is upon us, but there’s no imminently arriving regal heir(ess) just yet. On the one hand, all the pomp and circumstance surrounding one 31-year-old about to give birth seems silly. On the other hand, why not celebrate it? It’s a rare celebrity gossip story that is 100 percent positive, as well as world history in the making, as Queen Elizabeth II will have a third living heir(ess). For the first time, the rules of ascension have changed so that Prince William and Kate Middleton’s first-born will inherit the throne, regardless of gender. As for when the royal baby will arrive … it’s still anyone’s guess. As the world’s media gather on the steps of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, final preparations are underway on the scene – along with serious fun. And safety measures, of course. Friday morning, a “Specialist Search Team” inspected trash cans, plant pots and lampposts around the hospital in a royally thorough security sweep. “We are checking the surrounding area,” one search officer said. “It’s standard procedure when there is royalty due, and with what’s happening here.” “We have to take extra precaution.” In recent days, a hospital security guard has already taken up permanent residence on the steps of the main entrance to the hospital’s Lindo Wing. There, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expected to pose with their newborn baby soon after the birth, with other guards patrolling the area. Publicity stunts help add to the festive atmosphere, such as the arrival of three men dressed as giant babies wearing onesies and prosthetic masks. On the royal baby betting market , Alexandra and George are the current favorite names, while Diana is now at 10-1. Gender bets are fairly close. “It’s crazy,” says one staffer who witnessed media arrive two weeks ago. “But it’s fun coming to work and having a look and seeing everyone pose for pictures – they are a very popular couple, so it’s exciting for everyone!” What do you think William and Kate are having? James Gandolfini Autopsy Results Confirm Death From Natural Causes

Autopsy results confirm that star James Gandolfini’s cause of death – he suffered a heart attack and died of natural causes – a family friend told the media. The 51-year-old’s sudden death instantly shocked and saddened fans Wednesday. As previously reported, Gandolfini had been visiting Italy with family. “Today we received the results of the autopsy, which stated he died of a heart attack, of natural causes,” Michael Kobold said in Rome on Friday. “The autopsy further states that nothing else was found in his system.” News that James Gandolfini died stunned his family most of all, and they plan to put his body back on a plane to the U.S. as soon as they get clearance. “We expect that to be Wednesday, maybe Thursday, but we will keep you informed,” Kobold said, noting that funeral is expected in NYC late next week. In a heartbreaking detail , the star’s manager confirmed that Michael, James Gandolfini’s 13-year-old son, found his father collapsed in his hotel room. The three-time Emmy winner was then transported to the Policlinico Umberto I hospital; paramedics tried in vain to revive Gandolfini en route to the hospital. Resuscitation maneuvers, including heart massage, continued for 40 minutes and then, seeing no electric activity from the heart, he was declared dead. R.I.P.

Kate Middleton, Baby Bump Look Lovely in Yellow at Queen Elizabeth’s Garden Party

Kate Middleton was the bright spot – literally – at Queen Elizabeth II’s annual summer garden party today, donning a lemon-yellow coat dress and fascinator. The seven-months-pregnant Duchess of Cambridge stood out in the crowd of other guests, who clamored for a glimpse of her growing baby bump: As Kate Middleton baby bump watchers know, it’s really popped in recent weeks, and the Duchess always seems to look radiant with her style. She appeared to be in great spirits as she mingled with her father-in-law, Prince Charles, and wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, at the occasion. All eyes were on the royal mom-to-be as she made her way around the affair, smiling and chatting with other seasonally, festively outfitted partygoers. Among the 8,000 invitees were Olympians, Paralympians, and officials from London 2012. Over 270,000 cups of tea were served at the event! After the playing of the national anthem at 4 p.m., members of the royal family split up to greet guests, each taking different routes through the grounds. As Kate Middleton fashion statements go, it was another win at the event, which she attended for the first time as Prince William’s wife in 2012. The Queen’s garden party is the pregnant Duchess’ first official public engagement in quite some time; she has been lying low in recent weeks. Some of that time has been spent taking cooking classes from her housekeeper, Antonella Fresolone, who’s teaching the nesting Kate new recipes. The Duchess has also been devouring parenting books. “She is fascinated by the life growing inside her, and she is full of questions,” a family source said. “Kate really engages with children. She’s a natural.” “She’s going to be a great mum.” We have absolutely no doubt about that, and can’t wait to meet the new arrival, which is supposedly set to be born on July 13 or thereabouts. What do you think she’s having?   Boy! Girl! View Poll »
