El Chapo was found guilty today, February 12, on 10 federal criminal counts. The New York Times reports that Chapo looked shocked and his wife tearfully gave him a thumbs up. “Mr. Guzmán sat listening to a translator, looking stunned. When the reading of the verdict was complete, Mr. Guzmán leaned back to glance at his wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, who flashed him a thumbs up with tears in her eyes.” The cartel leader now faces life in prison at his sentencing hearing scheduled for June 25. Before his sentencing, 56 witnesses testified against, 14 of whom once worked with him. El Chapo’s lawyers are planning to file an appeal for the Sinaloa drug cartel leader.

After spending over a week in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following his arrest on February 3, the rapper was released on bond on Tuesday afternoon, according to reports from TMZ . 21’s lawyers gave a statement to the publication quickly following his release. “21 Savage asked us to send a special message to his fans and supporters — he says that while he wasn’t present at the Grammy Awards, he was there in spirit and is grateful for the support from around the world and is more than ever, ready to be with his loved ones and continue making music that brings people together,” Alex Spiro, Charles H. Kuck and Dina LaPolt said in the joint statement. “He will not forget this ordeal or any of the other fathers, sons, family members, and faceless people, he was locked up with or that remain unjustly incarcerated across the country. And he asks for your hearts and minds to be with them.” If you’re not caught up on why Savage was detained in the first place, he was arrested following a traffic stop in Atlanta in early February and was taken into custody when officials found that the rapper is actually a citizen of the United Kingdom. ICE spokesman Bryan Cox said at the time, “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA ‘21 Savage’ during a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday in metro Atlanta. Mr. Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the U.S. and also a convicted felon.” Though authorities initially claimed that Savage’s visa expired in July 2006, his legal team later debunked that story. But now, celebrations are in order that 21 has finally been released from the detention center he was held in for over a week–although, he didn’t get off completely scot-free; The rapper was released on bond pending a deportation hearing and luckily, his attorneys say that 21 was granted an expedited hearing. With that being said, 21 FINALLY getting out as he should of when he was first arrested is something to be happy about, and fans are definitely celebrating this occasion. Cardi B is having quite a rollercoaster of a week. Things started off on a decidedly positive note when Cardi won the Grammy for best rap album , thus becoming the first solo female act to do so. But from there, however, a considerable amount of drama ensued, and not all of it had to do with Cardi’s reconciliation with Offset . First, there was the reaction to Cardi’s unexpected win on Twitter. Ariana Grande called the decision”literal bullsh -t,” but later clarified that her outburst had nothing to do with Cardi and was instead the result of her frustration over what she viewed as an unfair snub for her late boyfriend, Mac Miller. Unfortunately, BET’s tweets on the subject had everything to do with Cardi. And it seems the network’s bizarre trash talk created some major problems. As you may recall, Nicki Minaj and Cardi B have been feuding for months. And on a scale of Taylor vs. Katy to Biggie vs. Tupac, this one rates a full ” Cardi getting hit with a flying shoe ” during New York Fashion Week. And so, whoever runs BET’s Twitter account decided to take Cardi’s victory as an opportunity to throw some major shade at Nicki (below). Not surprisingly, Cardi wasn’t interested in being dragged down by pettiness on her big night. And so, she unleashed an expletive-laced tirade on BET before deleting her Instagram account altogether. “It’s not my style for people to put other people down to uplift somebody else,” said the mother of one in her noew-deleted rant. “I work hard for my f–king album,” she added. “I remember last year when I didn’t win for ‘Bodak Yellow’ and everybody was like, ‘Cardi got snubbed.’ Now this year’s a f–king problem?” And Cardi’s not the only one who’s pissed at BET. Nicki canceled an upcoming performance for the network in response to the ill-advised tweet. Elsewhere in the Cardi Universe, fans had a bit of fun with what appeared to be bruises on the rapper’s knee that were visible during some of her recent appearances. Cardi attributed the marks to her Grammys performance, during which she violently twerked on a piano. It took a while, but Mexican cartel leader Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera was convicted today (Feb. 12) in a Brooklyn federal district court of multiple crimes including operating a continuing criminal enterprise and multiple charges of conspiracy to import and distribute cocaine, heroin and marijuana. He was found guilty of all the charges he was facing. El Chapo is also infamous for escaping not one but two supermax prisons in Mexico. But don’t expect such finesse stateside. Reports the New York Times : The guilty verdict against the kingpin, whose real name is Joaquín Guzmán Loera, ended the career of a legendary outlaw who also served as a dark folk hero in Mexico, notorious for his innovative smuggling tactics, his violence against competitors, his storied prison breaks and his nearly unstoppable ability to evade the Mexican authorities. The jury’s decision came more than a week after the panel started deliberations at the trial in Federal District Court in Brooklyn where prosecutors presented a mountain of evidence against the cartel leader, including testimony from 56 witnesses, 14 of whom once worked with Mr. Guzmán. He faces life in prison at his sentencing. Needless to say, the trial was bananas. Case in point: At times, the trial was so bizarre it felt like a drug-world telenovela unfolding live in the courtroom. Last month, one of Mr. Guzmán’s mistresses tearfully proclaimed her love for him even as she testified against him from the stand. The following day, in what seemed like a coordinated show of solidarity, the kingpin and his wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, appeared in court in matching red velvet smoking jackets. Toward the end of the proceeding, Alejandro Edda, an actor who plays El Chapo on the Netflix series “Narcos: Mexico,” showed up at the trial to study Mr. Guzmán. The crime lord flashed an ecstatic smile when told Mr. Edda had come to see him. El Chapo is accused of making a whopping $14 billion during his run.
