Mike Sorrentino Begs Judge For Leniency, Receives Prison Time Anyway

It’s a sad day for Jersey Shore star and reality TV icon Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino. As we reported earlier, Sorrentino has been sentenced to eight months in prison in connection with a string of legal troubles that began back in 2014. At that time, Mike and his older brother Marc were indicted for failure to pay taxes on $8.9 million in earnings. Additionally, the brothers were accused of covering up their crimes by filing false tax returns in connection to Mike’s business ventures. In April of 2017, Mike was hit with additional charges of tax evasion and structuring funds to avoid currency transaction reports. Under the terms of his plea deal, Sorrentino was only forced to plead guilty to one count of tax evasion, but that proved to be enough to land him behind bars. Mike’s attorneys argued that he played a minimal role in the financial conspiracy masterminded by his brother (who has already been sentenced to two years in prison). They also noted that Sorrentino has worked hard to overcome the substance abuse issues that plagued him as a young adult. Speaking on his own behalf, Sorrentino made a heartfelt plea for leniency that ultimately fell on deaf ears. “I am deeply sorry. I will forever regret the decisions I made,” he told the court. “I overcame my demons in 34 months,” Sorrentino added. “I was in almost a full year of treatment. I lost everything in a short period of time. I was immature. Everything came overnight.” Sorrentino joked that he “doesn’t even speed anymore” before listing the ways in which he’s served his community over the course of the past three years. “I have a new team of professionals helping me. I work at two rehabs to share my story,” he said. “I volunteer at the police department. I warn kids of the dangers of substance abuse. I want to continue to be a positive role model in my community.” But despite Mike’s obvious remorse, his good works, and the endorsement of his Shore castmates — all of whom were present in the courtroom today — the judge denied Sorrentino’s request for probation and a fine and his only penalties. In addition to jail time, Mike will be forced to serve 500 hours of community service and pay a $10,000 fine within 30 days. He has already paid $123,913 in restitution. There’s no word yet on when Mike will begin serving his sentence, but it currently looks as though he will not be appearing in the planned third season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation . Alaskan Bush People: Renewed for Season 9… with a Catch!

A year ago ago at this time, we were unsure if Alaskan Bush People would return for an eighth season. To be frank, we were unsure whether Ami Brown would even be alive right now. The veteran reality star had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and her prognosis was grim. But here we are now, and, we’re so very happy to say, here Ami is now: still alive, still kicking, still starring on Alaskan Bush People. The Discovery Channel hit recently wrapped filming on Season 8, which focused on the family moving from Alaska to Washington because Ami had to be closer to doctors who could assist with her pressing medical needs. It hasn’t been an easy adjustment, especially because the Browns can never go back home , but it beats the alternative, right? Again: Ami is alive. And now we’ve received word that the show is as well. Alaskan Bush People is coming back for Season 9. With Ami on the mend, the central storyline will move from her health battle to the struggles of Matt Brown, who announced last month that he is headed for rehab . This is bad news for the family, but actually positive news from the view of Discovery Channel executives. It has given them new content for future episodes. “Everyone is interested to see if he is able to overcome his addiction battle,” an insider tells Radar Online of the reaction to Matt’s admission. Upon confirming he is seeking professional assistance, this is what Brown said to People Magazine: “I struggle with substance abuse, and after a year of ups and downs, I decided to return to treatment. “I’m really grateful for everyone’s support and hope to have my life back on track soon.” Matt is the oldest of all Ami and Billy’s children. Back in 2016, he checked into treatment after being arrested for DUI in Juneau, Alaska. According to Radar Online, he remained on the straight and narrow, fully on the wagon… until last year, when he started drinking again to cope with his his mother’s tragic diagnosis. A terminal illness for a parent is an understandable trigger for anyone that has dependency issues. In an interview with People, Ami touched on Matt having to go to rehab prior to the Season 8 finale being shot and said: “It’s hard not having one of my babies here with us. He was so strong for me, and I want to be strong for him.” We wish him the best. And we’re excited for Season 9! View Slideshow: Alaskan Bush People: 13 Secrets They Don’t Want You to Know

How Black Women Can Get Their Finances In Order And Live Their Best Lives

Continue reading here:

Source: vorDa / Getty Black women are now the most educated group in the country , which means it’s natural we have more money at our fingertips. However, as anyone who has ever dealt significantly in the financial arena knows, just because you make money that doesn’t automatically mean you know what to do with it. It’s easy to neglect investing, saving and making other sound decisions with your money, in favor of spending it on things you want instead of things you need to provide you with a comfortable life long after your working days are behind you. Culturally, Black people don’t utilize their finances the way they should in comparison to their non-white peers, but that has a lot to do with not making as much and being afforded the same opportunities. When you know better, you do better, so we spoke to Tiffany Aliche (known as The Bugetnista) and AttiQuewa Green (known as That Finance Chick), black women who are financial experts and filled with sage advice, to give us some tips on how to get your finances to where they should be and how to make your money work for you even while you’re sleeping. This is the year to level up…and that definitely includes your finances! Hello Beautiful: What do you think are the biggest obstacles between black women and their finances? Tiffany Aliche: The biggest obstacle for black women surrounding their finances is thinking that we need to manage it all on their own, and asking for help is a sign of weakness. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength. I had a period after getting laid off from my job where I felt ashamed. It was isolating. Nothing gets solved in isolation. This is what’s so powerful about my Facebook forum, the Live Richer Dream Catchers Group. Over 300,000 members are in the group. I see women daily getting support from each other. They share stories of how getting advice on building credit, repaying debt, and saving has completely changed their financial outlook. AttiQuewa Green: I think the biggest obstacles black women have when dealing with our finances is finding a way to end the cycle of financial illiteracy for ourselves and finding our financial comfort zone to meet our goals. Often times, it’s up to us to learn how to “do better” with our money when we didn’t realize there was an issue in the first place. Then once we get over that hump, we have to silence the voices around us saying that our ambitions are too much for our current circumstances. For example: for the woman barely making ends meet aspiring to make six figures so she doesn’t have to figure out which bill not to pay for the month and maybe be able to travel once in a while. Or the most insulting obstacle in my opinion, silencing the old traditional or insecure voices telling us not to intimidate our men by making more than them. HB: How do you feel about the belief that black people lack the abundance of generational wealth of other races, thus leaving them behind financially? Aliche: History’s impact on our ability to generate wealth can’t be ignored. But I don’t believe that the black community lacks the capacity to build wealth for future generations. Abundance is all around us, we just need to give our community the right tools to accumulate it. Creating affordable tools with strategies to build wealth is my passion. Green: I believe it’s true. The historical events involving slavery through mortgage redlining has set us back tremendously, but I also believe that we don’t have to stay where we are. We cannot continue to play the blame game as it does nothing for us. It’s all about educating yourself, your family & community to get ahead. There are so many tools and resources available to us that can allow us to create generational wealth including, but definitely not limited to, having multiple sources of passive income. HB: At what age do you recommend sitting down with a young black woman and teaching her the basics of financial responsibility? Aliche: I’m working on a children’s book right now teaching children how to manage money. I also worked on a financial literacy bill to make financial education required in schools. The basics of financial responsibility should be taught to young black women right along with reading and writing at a very young age. Simple lessons like saving an allowance and giving back has a long-term positive impact as they transition into their teenage and young adult years. Green: As soon as possible. If they can talk, they can listen. It’s all about creating great habits young because it’s way easier than having to break bad habits as an adult. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people with the mindset that “kids should be kids” or they need to stay in a “child’s place” not realizing that they are stifling them. Your childhood is about learning life lessons you’re going to need as an adult and the sooner we can adopt that mindset they better off our next generations will be. HB: With the uncertainty of the current administration, what advice do you have for black women to secure their financial future? Aliche: Don’t let fear or uncertainty scare you into inaction. The news can be depressing, but there are moves you can make within your control. Of course, vote — locally and on the national level. Entrepreneurship as a means to building generational wealth is another way to secure your future. Developing multiple streams of income is advice I always stress. You never know when you could lose a job or lose a salary in your household. Having a side business can ease the financial blow. A side hustle can also grow into a full-time job or a company that you can pass down to future generations. Green: Definitely have multiple streams of income! It is a must! Also, prepare for your future by saving now, making safe investments and taking advantage of the current tax laws when looking at investing and growing your money as well as have the best credit you can possibly obtain. HB: What financial mistakes do you commonly see black women make that they need to change? Aliche: Living beyond means is a common problem I see with black women, but the good news is this isn’t such a terrible problem to have. You can rectify it by taking a hard look at your spending habits, downsizing, and creating a good budget. I was able to save about $40,000 in a few years on a teacher’s salary, so cutting back can be done even if you’re making a modest salary. Green: Not having multiple sources of income. Living a life that they can’t afford. Not planning out their financial future. Letting other people have an influence over their money (significant other, friends, family “black tax” & jobs.) HB: If you could narrow it down to a few specific tips, what advice would you give a black woman about her finances? Aliche: Know it’s not a race. As teenagers, we believe we’ll be married by 25, living in a McMansion by 28, and driving a Rolls Royce at 30. Then we get to 30, realize we’re sitting on a pile of student loan debt, and feel like failures. There’s no race. It’s a journey. Mistakes will be made. Financial security happens from learning and making smarter decisions over time. Get your emergency fund together. An emergency savings fund is where you should put a few months’ worth of your salary. Don’t ever spend this money. Keeping a cash cushion will help you avoid having to rely on credit cards and other debt when unexpected expenses come up. Protect your credit. Having good credit history comes with many perks like affordable loans and credit. You may think you’re a good friend, partner, parent, or cousin by co-signing for someone else, but their payment habits will impact you. Your needs come first. Work to keep your credit history clean. Use your employer retirement plan. It’s never too early to start saving for retirement. Even if you can only put a few bucks away in your employer retirement account, do it! Work towards increasing your contribution to match your employer contribution. If your employer doesn’t offer a retirement plan, consider investing in an IRA or another retirement account. Green: Outside of the usual “make sure you have a great budget, plan for your future, fix your credit & have multiple sources of income,” do not allow anyone to make you feel negative about your financial ambitions. As women, we crave stability and security and if people don’t understand that, that’s none of your business. Also, be sure to surround yourself with like-minded people. It’ll make your financial journey a lot easier. Grey’s Anatomy Recap: Who Got Fired?

Alex Karev is the interim Chief of Grey Sloan Memorial, and he’s messing everything up.  Thursday’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy chronicled the manchild’s first day on the job, and it did not bode well for his future at the hospital.  Allow us to explain… Alex was on a high with his promotion and set out to approve just about everything anyone asked of him. The most ridiculous thing he approved was a 3D printer that allowed Link to change the color of prosthetic limbs.  While $500 per colored prosthetic sounds semi-reasonable, the hospital needed the 3D printer that would cost $65,000 to order in.  By the end of the day, Alex was in a tense standoff with Bailey who wanted to know why he was approving everything on his first day.  That’s when Alex showed his cards, revealing the biggest blunder of his entire career. According to him, he was still below budget for the month.  After Bailey looked at his figures, it became glaringly obvious he was looking at the figures for the quarter and not the month.  Alex had spent the hospital’s budget for the entire quarter.  Yikes.  But Alex did make a good decision. Who would have thought it?  Vik, who blackmailed Bailey and the hospital to get his job back at the end of last season, finally got his comeuppance.  He failed to recognize that a man with a nosebleed was about to die.  “I need an attending!” he yelled upon realizing he messed up.  The patient died in the operating room, and Vik refused to take responsibility.  I’m just an intern,” Vik cried. “This isn’t on me.” He didn’t want to call the time of death, so he rushed off into a room with Nico showing off his abs to Levi.  Alex followed Vik and decided to fire him on the spot. He had it coming, you guys! The medical mystery on Thursday’s installment revolved around a school teacher who fell asleep while operating a saw.  It resulted in multiple students being rushed into the O.R., and Webber took action when Levi said there was a high alcohol level in the blood.  “The more sober he gets,” Richard said, “the worse he’s going to feel.” The teacher was against the notion that he got drunk in the classroom, and Webber seemed to think the man was trying his best to deflect the situation.  Alex ultimately had to remove Webber from the room … maybe because there was a lawsuit on the horizon if he was wrong.  However, Webber persisted and brought some vodka to the man as he was recovering. The next thing we knew, the man was supposedly drunk again.  Thankfully, Webber did not give the man the drink and confirmed he had a rare condition that meant the sugar in his body would make him drunk.  Crisis averted then, right? Elsewhere, Maggie was trying to set Amelia up with anybody she could, presumably to soften the blow of Teddy’s pregnancy when it is revealed.  Amelia took notice of it and asked her to stop because she was no longer on the market.  Okay then.  What Maggie failed to realize was that she might be back on the market. Jackson sent an email into the hospital taking a leave of absence.  This was news to Maggie who was visibly annoyed. Jackson was having a crisis of faith, but he could at least let her know what was going on with him.  View Slideshow: Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers: It’s About to Go DOWN in Season 15 What are your thoughts on the latest installment?  Hit the comments.  Grey’s Anatomy continues Thursdays on ABC.

Farrah Abraham on Teen Mom: HA! It’s a Failure Without Me!

Teen Mom OG returned to the air on October 1, with one very obvious change: Farrah Abraham is no longer a cast member. She was fired in February and replaced by two additions: Bristol Palin and Cheyenne Floyd. How did the Season 8 premiere fare without this controversial reality star on board? Below, we relay the opening ratings and then we share Abraham's calm, cool and collected reaction to how the program is doing thus far without her polarizing presence… 1. The New Cast Here they are: Amber, Maci, Catelynn, Cheyenne and Bristol. MTV is banking on this quintet to draw in the ratings for Season 8. 2. Was the Premiere a Hit? Based on buzz, maybe. The Internet wrote a lot about Bristol and her marital problems. Based on ratings, however? Well… 3. Under a Million Viewers Tuned In According to Ratings by the Numbers, the Season 8 premiere drew in 957,000 viewers for its original airing at 9/8c on Monday, October 1. 4. Can We Compare This to The Season 7 Premiere? Of course. On November 27, 2017 — a premiere that featured Abraham in all her Farrah glory – 1.319 million viewers were viewing MTV to see what these women were up to. 5. As for the Season 7 Finale? That episode garnered 1.098 million viewers, meaning there was a pretty significant drop-off from those who were curious to see what Farrah was doing to those who tuned in for the debut of Bristol and Chyenne. 6. Was This Really a Reflection of Farrah Getting Fired? We mean… perhaps. There’s no real way of knowing. But ratings across the board have been dropping on television as streaming services take off, viewers have more options and the use of DVR explodes. View Slideshow

Florida Man Gets T-t-t-tased After Recklessly Driving A Stolen Tractor Trailer [Video]

Florida man Charles Nicholas McNeil must’ve thought he was ’bout that life when he tried to fight a police officer who pulled him over for his erratic driving. After police stopped and questioned him, the 28-year old gave them a false name and was found in possession of a knife and a prescription medication bottle containing pills. NBC 2 News reports: The man tried to take off when the officer attempted to arrest him. The two men scuffled and the officer used a Taser on McNeil. The man hit his head on the ground and lost consciousness. Emergency crews treated McNeil. Charles McNeil, who reportedly stole the tractor from a 71-year-old man, has been booked on charges of grand theft and battery.

Kailyn Lowry to Chris Lopez: For Real, Get Me Pregnant!

Kailyn Lowry and Chris Lopez have had a very interesting relationship. And by “interesting,” of course we mean “super weird and dramatic and perfect for reality television.” Unfortunately, although Kailyn is of course one of the stars of Teen Mom 2, Chris has never agreed to be on the show, so we’ve missed out on a lot of the action. But man, the things we have heard … It’s been a lot. Like we said, because Chris hasn’t been on the show and hasn’t given interviews, a lot of the things we know about him are just rumors, or information from Kailyn. And since there have been times they haven’t gotten along , she might not be the most reliable source of information. But the gist of it all is that they were friends in college who started hooking up when her marriage with Javi Marroquin fell apart. Towards the end of 2016, she became pregnant, and as she revealed in a blog post she made when the news leaked, it was by choice. Still, the pregnancy was rough on her emotionally, especially because Chris wasn’t that involved. She said on Teen Mom 2 that he had another girlfriend, and that he refused to accompany her to her doctor’s appointments for the baby. In one particularly tough episode, she had a health scare while on vacation, but he still wouldn’t answer her calls or texts. When she gave birth to their son, Lux, in August of 2017, he did start coming around to spend time with the baby. In her new book, Letters of Love, Kailyn wrote that during that time, they actually tried to be a couple for Lux’s sake, but that it only lasted a month. After that, they didn’t speak for around eight months, and during that time, she said that things were especially bad . “I’ve had my bedroom window broken while the baby was sleeping with me in the room,” she claimed, apparently insinuating that Chris was responsible. She also said that “My backdoor had been broken while all of my kids were at home.” “I’ve been left to take care of everything,” she continued, referring to the time that Chris wasn’t involved in Lux’s life. “I kind of knew this would be a possibility, but I guess I wanted to be proved wrong,” Kailyn admitted. “Because I can be totally responsible for our child doesn’t mean that I should take care of everything.” In spite of all of that, she’s said several times that Chris is the only person she’s ever really been in love with . Yep, she had a kid with Jo Rivera, and she got married AND had a kid with Javi Marroquin, but Chris is it. And in a new interview with Us Weekly, she details exactly how much she loves Chris. Hint: enough to want him to put another baby in her! “Before I got pregnant with Lux and had multiple miscarriages, my doctor told me I should be thankful that I have two healthy boys and what’s meant to be will be,” she begins. “I kind of have that perspective now.” Kind of, but not totally. Kail says that in her new book, she wrote that Lux “will probably be my last child.” “I would definitely have more,” she clarifies, “but I also know that my life isn’t really set up for another right now.” She admits that “Ideally I would have liked Chris to be the father of my next child.” Don’t worry, though, it’s not like she’s set on that idea. Instead, she says that “In the meantime, I will focus on my hair line and business ventures and hopefully the other things will fall into place.” It’s good that she sounds pretty chill about this whole thing, right? But then again, it seems like she’s been considering the possibility of having another baby with Chris for quite some time now. On an episode of her podcast from all the way back in May, she brought up the idea, saying that perhaps he could simply donate his sperm to the cause . Given how many ups and downs their relationship has had, it’s hard to say whether or not this could ever actually happen. Right now though, they seem to be getting along better than ever before. She’s even said that they’re sleeping together again . View Slideshow: Kailyn Lowry Puts One Baby Daddy on Blast So … Kailyn pregnancy watch, anyone?

Nicolas Cage Accused of Drunkenly Beating Ex Girlfriend

Nicolas Cage’s career has survived a number of bizarre rumors and scandals, but the latest allegations against the famously eccentric actor could mean that his acting days are over. According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, Cage’s ex-girlfriend, Vickie Park, accused Cage of assaulting her while “severely intoxicated” at the SLASH Film Festival in Vienna last month. According to Park’s filing, Cage “abused” her on September 20. She attributed the actor’s behavior to a combination of alcohol abuse and mental illness. “I am already aware of his alcohol addiction, depression and mental illness as his mother is also currently still facilitated in mental ward,” Park wrote. Park says that in addition to that incident, she has been the victim of a sustained and targeted harassment campaign carried out by Cage’s ex-wife, Alice Kim. Park says she feels unsafe in her own home, adding, “I am afraid for my life because of the stalking and harassment of his jealous ex-wife Alice Cage.” According to Park, the harassment began immediately after she started dating Cage in June of 2017. Park claims Kim has gone to great lengths to undermine her relationship with Cage and to damage her reputation. “[Kim] stalks my Instagram page which I now had to make private because I am afraid of her/ she sends Nic messages about me — spreading lies and rumors about me all over Los Angeles and Las Vegas as well,” Park claims. In her increasingly bizarre filing, Park goes on to claim that she became unwillingly caught up in a bitter divorce battle when she started dating Cage: “I am afraid and distressed from their toxic relationship being projected onto me — physically and mentally,” she says. “Currently they are in a divorce battle where she is requesting more than $30 to 40,000 dollars a month solely for herself without signing a contract without documenting how much of the money is going to their son, Kal.” Unfortunately for Park, the judge in her case found insufficient evidence to grant her a restraining order. According to the judge’s ruling, the facts of the case, as presented by Park, “do not sufficiently show acts of violence, threats of violence, or a course of conduct that seriously alarmed, annoyed, or harassed [Vickie Park] and caused substantial emotional distress.” For their part, Cage and Kim issued the following joint statement through their lawyers: “Nicolas and Alice Cage categorically deny the absurd allegations listed in the filing of a temporary restraining order against Alice Cage, which was denied by the court.” We’ll bring you further updates on this situation as more information becomes available.
