Let the Games continue! EW has your first look at the Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire , with a peek at Jennifer Lawrence ‘s Katniss and cast newcomer Sam Claflin as returning Games victor Finnick Odair. Katniss and her baker boyfriend Peeta are back in Catching Fire , based on Suzanne Collins’s second Hunger Games book, but things haven’t exactly settled down; with revolution sparking in the Districts, the duo are sent back on the Games circuit and thrust into a new, even more dangerous competition. In the next ten months you’re going to see a lot of Claflin ( Pirates of the Caribbean , Snow White and the Huntsman ), the British up-and-comer who plays charismatic Finnick, a previous Games winner known for his seductive charm… who also has a notable scene in which he’s clad only in a fishing net. Ahem. Joining Claflin in the Francis Lawrence -directed sequel are new castmates Jena Malone as Johanna Mason, Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, Amanda Plummer as Wiress, and Jeffrey Wright as Beetee. For now, enjoy this first image of Finnick cozying up to Katniss in what might be the knot-tying scene. To borrow from the master R. Kelly: Peeta, don’t bring your girl around Finnick because he’s a flirt (with a trident). Catching Fire hits theaters November 21. Synopsis: THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever. We still have nearly a year to go until Catching Fire hits the theaters, but Hunger Games fans are in for a thrill this week: The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features Jennifer Lawrence on the cover as Katniss Everdeen – and also Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair! It’s our first look at this British actor in the key role: Claflin tells the magazine that he was petrified to film the infamous scene in which Finnick interacts with Katniss while donning nothing but strategically placed netting, explaining: It was “the scariest moment of my life. I’m on Twitter and so many people have been like ‘Don’t mess this up, or we will kill you.’” Considering the rising star is still alive – and in the running to play Four in Divergent – it’s safe to assume he nailed the role. This copy of EW will be available newsstands Friday, January 11.
The film starring Jamie Foxx , Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio is riddled with the N-word, but that has not turned off African American audiences. Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost appears to have put an end to the latest flurry of Internet rumors surrounding the resurrection of David Lynch’s seriously weird but beloved cult series. On Dec. 31 an anonymous poster on the 4chan message board, wrote of attending a meeting between Lynch and NBC executives about bringing back a number of the original characters for a third season of the show, which originally aired on ABC from April 1990 to June 1991. The tipster claimed that the idea was in the “early stages” and that NBC executives were a “little on edge” about Lynch “tackling [the series] alone” given the Eraserhead director’s iconoclastic tastes. According to Anonymous, Lynch discussed setting the new season in the modern day, with good Agent Cooper ( Kyle MacLachlan ) stuck in the lodge and bad Cooper in jail. This time, a young female reporter will purportedly “uncover the truth” behind such conundrums as the killer BOB and the Lodge that defies time and space. At the time, those little morsels of unsubstantiated rumor didn’t seem so far-fetched given a report on Moviehole.com in which Frost was quote saying that a season-three storyline is “something we talk about from time to time… If we ever do decide to move forward, I know we have a rich trove to draw from. Cast and crew members, such as the series’ “Log Lady,” Catherine E. Coulson and writer/producer Robert Engels, have also reportedly been contacted about the possibility of resuming their roles. Alas, on Wednesday Frost tweeted the following, which appeared to debunk the rumors: Dear Internet: You are very good at spreading rumors. Truth is more valuable and much harder to come by. Sincerely yours, @ mfrost11 — Mark Frost (@mfrost11) January 02, 2013 Daily Beast West Coast Deputy Bureau Chief Jace Lacob also tweeted that, in an email, Frost indicated that he and Lynch had had no contact with NBC. @ TwinPeaksRedux That there have been no conversations between them (i.e., Frost and Lynch) and NBC.— Jace Lacob (@televisionary) January 03, 2013 What is there to do but grab piece of cherry pie and exit stage left with my favorite reaction from the Twin Peaks Archive Twitter feed, where much of this drama has been playing out: It is not happening again.
