‘Arrested Development’ To Shoot This Summer?

Michael Cera updates MTV News on progress of ‘Arrested Development’ movie and new TV episodes. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Michael Cera Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — Bluth-family fans collectively blue themselves when it was announced that “Arrested Development” would be coming back in both film and television form. Netflix announced late last year that they would be backing new episodes of “Arrested” that would pave the way for an eventual feature film. Despite the good news, fans remain in the dark regarding when “Arrested Development” might actually go back into production. But according to Michael Cera , who spoke with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival about his new movie “The End of Love,” the Bluth reunion may be coming together sooner than expected. “I’ve heard summer,” Cera told MTV News. “So hopefully that’s going to happen.” Still, like his “Arrested” costars, Cera is of the “I’ll believe it when I see it” school of thought. “It’s hard to be excited, because I don’t feel any progress day to day,” he said. “But I’m sure it’s happening. I think it’s just out of my realm of awareness. I’ll be happy when we’re on set doing it.” Cera’s fellow “Arrested” actor Alia Shawkat also spoke with MTV News at Sundance and expressed her enthusiasm about getting back into the Bluth household sooner than later. “It’s been kind of following me around like a very attractive albatross,” she said of her “Arrested Development” history. “But now it’s hopefully going to happen. It would be very exciting.” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Drake Takes Sundance By Storm

Toronto MC debuts new verses and first-time performances at Utah club during Sundance Film Festival. By Joel Hanek Drake performs during the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images PARK CITY, Utah — Underneath the blizzard-like conditions that blanketed Park City on Saturday night, the Bing Bar was packed with hundreds of people waiting for a chance to catch Drake give a rare stripped-down, intimate performance. The delay-inducing snowstorm coupled with an open bar made for a fickle audience. Comedian Aziz Ansari opened the show with material about relationships that would have normally served as a nice amuse-bouche to Drake’s emotive content. But much to the chagrin of the “Parks and Recreation” star, the audience talked through most of the set. The most entertaining part of the 10-minute set came when an unprompted Cuba Gooding Jr. ran onstage to instruct the audience to “Shut the f— up.” An exasperated Ansari dismissively conceded that Gooding Jr. wasn’t as funny as the movie “Boat Trip” before ending his set. After crowds waited nearly three hours for the rapper to hit the stage, a triumphant Drake emerged and immediately made up for lost time. He opened by hitting the crowd with “Up All Night” and instantly cut into his first verse on “Forever.” After taking a breather to introduce Toronto-based DJ Future the Prince, Drake apologized for the wait, which he explained was due to a six-hour plane delay, but the crowd didn’t seem to mind. Announcing that he hadn’t had a drink all night, Drake took long pulls from a bottle of vodka to catch up. Even without his normal backing band and spectacle light show, the newly fueled MC managed to bring an arena-size performance by going back in with the crowd-pleasing anthem “Show Me a Good Time” paired with his latest single, “Proud of You.” Never forgetting to rep Young Money and his mentor Lil Wayne, Drake delivered his verse on “I’m On One” before showing some more Weezy love with “HYFR” and “The Motto.” Earlier in the night, MTV caught up with Drake briefly on the red carpet. When asked about the upcoming mixtape with Rick Ross, Y.O.L.O., the rapper gave a knowing smile and simply replied, “You’ll find out tonight,” before doing the red carpet equivalent of a mic drop and moving on. Perhaps Drake was hinting at the only never-before-heard material of his Saturday-night set, a new version of “She Will,” for which he told the crowd that he had a new verse. After crooning the chorus, the rapper spit a few bars of oscillating tempo about a wayward tryst that seemed to be a kindred lyrical spirit to “Marvin’s Room.” Drake finished his set by playing the up-tempo tracks from the first half of Take Care. Bringing it back to his Toronto pride, the DJ cued up the Weeknd-produced “Crew Love.” Once the track finished, a glowing Drake revealed, “That was the first time I played that one live.” The 2012 Sundance Film Festival is officially under way, and the MTV Movies team is on the ground reporting on the hottest stars and the movies everyone will be talking about in the year to come. Emma Roberts Channels Ke$ha In ‘Celeste And Jesse’

‘I got to bring together every pop star and fold it into one person,’ actress tells MTV News. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Elijah Wood and Emma Roberts Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — Emma Roberts has always been a friend to MTV News, particularly at the Sundance Film Festival . Last year in Park City, we were fairly sure that we got Emma to drop a massive “Scream 4” spoiler — namely that she wasn’t going to survive her encounter with Ghost Face — and we were right … partially. At this year’s Sundance, our conversation with Emma was not so grim. The up-and-coming actress has a starring role in “Celeste and Jesse Forever,” a comedy about a divorcing couple struggling to maintain their friendship during an intense period of transition. In the film, which also stars co-writer Rashida Jones , Roberts goes against type as a pop star named Riley, who is an amalgamation of various musical icons. But according to the actress, there’s one particular singer she took her cues from. “I got to bring together every pop star and fold it into one person,” she told MTV News about her role in the film. “[But] my hair is definitely Ke$ha . I have these fabulous long, blond, slightly ratty extensions. I miss those dearly.” Of course, hair alone does not make a pop star. Roberts had to sing and dance to get into the role, rocking out with a dance anthem that was co-written by Jones herself. “We recorded a song that Rashida co-wrote with a bunch of people, and it’s just wildly entertaining and inappropriate and it’s kind of a dance anthem. It was fun,” she said. “You know when you listen to songs and they yell at you to have fun? That’s kind of what we decided to do, because I love being yelled at to have fun and dance!” Who doesn’t? Nicholas Hoult Is ‘Beautiful’ In ‘Warm Bodies’

Teresa Palmer gushed to MTV News about her co-star’s zombie performance. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Teresa Palmer and Joel Edgerton Photo: MTV News If Hollywood can turn vampires and werewolves into sex icons, what’s keeping zombies from entering that same sexy stratosphere? Well, there’s the whole feasting-on-human-flesh thing to consider, we suppose, not to mention the endless groaning and decaying to boot. Despite their brain-craving reputation, the walking dead are about to undergo a serious makeover in “Warm Bodies,” director Jonathan Levine’s adaptation of the Isaac Marion novel set in a post-apocalyptic world where a zombie named R (played by “X-Men: First Class” actor Nicholas Hoult ) inexplicably falls in love with Julie Grigio, whose father is a general in the dwindling human resistance. Teresa Palmer , who plays Julie, spoke with MTV News at the Sundance Film Festival about her work on “Warm Bodies” and why she can’t wait to fall in love with a zombie on the big screen. “I’m just excited to see how Nicholas Hoult comes across on the screen,” said Palmer, who’s attending Sundance to support her drama “Wish You Were Here.” “He was so beautiful to work with. He does such an incredible performance. He’s playing a zombie, so he can’t say much, but he’s very expressive with his eyes.” It’s not just Hoult’s “beautiful” zombie performance that Palmer fell in love with, but the “Warm Zombies” universe as a whole. “The world that Jonathan Levine has set up is so epic and so interesting,” she said. “It’s always very cool when Jonathan Levine does something. I’m really excited to see it.” Are you excited to see zombie love story “Warm Bodies”? Let us know in the comments. ‘West Of Memphis’ Offers New Evidence In West Memphis Three Saga

Peter Jackson-produced documentary, premiering Friday at Sundance, contains new info about the murders. By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Peter Jackson at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival Photo: Larry Busacca/Getty Images PARK CITY, Utah — The Peter Jackson -produced documentary ” West of Memphis ” premieres at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday (January 20), chronicling the conviction, imprisonment and eventual release of West Memphis Three defendants Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley, who were convicted in 1994 of brutally murdering three young boys in Arkansas, despite an overwhelming amount of reasons to believe otherwise. Though Echols, Baldwin and Misskelley were released from prison in August, they have still not been exonerated for the murders. “West of Memphis” aims to present new revelations about their innocence and another man’s role in the crime, and as such, the documentary is something of an ever-evolving work — so much so that a new, crucial interview was just shot and added to the documentary in the last week. “Some witnesses came forward a very short time ago,” Jackson told MTV News about the new revelations. “[Director Amy Berg ] was able to interview them about six days ago. We only just managed to get that particular interview with two young men into the movie, in time for the screenings today. It’s some fairly serious eyewitness statements that I think are going to hopefully push the resolution of the case a little bit further.” Though the documentary is set to make its world premiere at Sundance, Jackson insists that the story is far from over. “This is a story that has not come to an end yet. In fact, it’s very much not ended,” he said. “We have three guys that were released from prison but not exonerated, even though they did not do the crime. We have three young boys who were murdered in 1993, and the killer still walks free. So absolutely, this is not the end of the story. It’s ongoing. It’s literally developing on a daily basis right now.” “West of Memphis” isn’t the first documentary about the trial. The “Paradise Lost” trilogy of documentaries — the last of which made its TV debut last week on HBO — also aimed to prove the West Memphis Three’s innocence. ‘Hunger Games’ Meets Robert Pattinson In Movie Brawl Finals

RPattz’s indie ‘Cosmopolis’ takes on the fresh franchise in MTV Movie Brawl 2012 — vote now! By Eric Ditzian Jennifer Lawrence in “The Hunger Games” Photo: Lionsgate It started three weeks ago with a simple question: What is truly the must-see movie of 2012? Everyone’s got an opinion. Maybe you’re a “Hobbit” guy who can’t believe that, after years of delay, Peter Jackson is set to deliver the first part of his series in December. Or perhaps you’re a “Dark Knight Rises” gal with an insatiable itch to see how Christopher Nolan wraps up his Batman trilogy. Or, hey, possibly you’re thinking, “Screw all these studio-driven tentpoles! I can’t wait for indies like ‘The Perks of Being a Wallflower’ to hit and show us Emma Watson in her first post-‘Harry Potter’ role!” But we got to wondering: What’s the consensus pick? What’s the collective viewpoint across the globe? So we launched MTV Movie Brawl 2012 , a fan-driven tournament to determine the year’s most-anticipated film. Millions of votes have been cast thus far. The debate has echoed from the pages of MTV News to the updates of the Twitterverse and beyond. Now just two movies remain: “The Hunger Games” and “Cosmopolis.” One is a fresh franchise with a huge fanbase. The other is an indie drama featuring one of the biggest stars on the planet. And less than one day into the action — with hundreds of thousands of votes already cast — it’s anybody’s guess what is going to happen. And we couldn’t be more psyched about it. As of this writing ,”Hunger Games” is up by less than 2 percent over Robert Pattinson’s “Cosmopolis.” It’s been an unlikely run for RPattz’s cerebral drama, having entered the Brawl bracket as a #4 seed after an impressive run in the play-in round. From there, “Cosmopolis” dispatched another Pattinson flick in “Bel Ami,” then shockingly dispatched his own “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” “The Dark Knight Rises” proved to be no match for “Cosmopolis,” as well, and so the movie came to face “Hunger Games.” Jennifer Lawrence’s film, which hits theaters in March, was a front-runner from the beginning, and it has not disappointed. Both “John Carter” and Daniel Radcliffe’s “Woman in Black” could not trip up the win-at-all-costs run of “Hunger Games.” So we wonder: Can Pattinson accomplish what no other star has so far in the Brawl? Can he fell the mighty “Hunger Games”? All will become clear when the polls close Monday at 5 p.m. Until then, the vote totals are being closely guarded. It’s up to the fans to keep voting for their fave flick and to make sure their must-see movie is crowned the champion of MTV Movie Brawl 2012. Vote For Your Favorite Upcoming Flick In MTV’s Movie Brawl 2012! What are you waiting for? “Hunger Games” and “Cosmopolis” need your support. It’s time to show character, poise and heart. Megaupload CEO Swizz Beatz Gets Hip-Hop Star Pals In Trouble

Working with Swizz Beatz can get you a hit record and a lawsuit. The New York Post reports that the record labels of Sean “Diddy” Combs, Kanye West and will.i.am, amongst others, were not pleased when they learned the participated in a video promo for Megaupload. Apparently it was Swizz, who is listed as Megaupload’s CEO, who convinced the aforementioned artists, including his wife Alicia Keys, to participate in the clip promoting the file storign and sharing service. However, since sites like Megaupload make trading pirated music easy, they have drawn the scorn of the recording industry. Although Megaupload contends the majority of their users use their service legitimately, the Universal Music Group immediately demanded the video (see below) be taken down, citing that its artists performed without permission.
