Four-time Grand Slam tennis champ Maria Sharapova is no longer engaged to professional basketball player Sasha Vujacic, she revealed yesterday. Speaking after a third-round victory Friday, Maria was asked about the relationship and said that they’ve split up, “since the end of spring, actually.” “It was obviously a challenging decision, you know, from both of our ends.” “I was waiting for someone to actually ask me that question,” the 25-year-old Russian beauty added. “I have never really been the person to announce things.” “I never announced when we were even together or never announced we were engaged. I never have in any of my previous relationships, as well.” “It was a really nice period of time for both of us, but our career schedules just made it extremely difficult … we still have a tremendous amount of respect for each other.” Word of their engagement came in October 2010, when Vujacic proposed on the one-year anniversary of their first meeting at a friend’s barbecue. The Slovenian guard was a first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2004, winning two championships with them until being traded in 2010. In a recent cover story for the German edition of Vogue , the actress is asked about her role in Oliver Stone’s Savages and was originally quoted as saying: “I am proud to have been involved in this film with all these great actors. Honestly, I hardly had any memories of what it is to be Mexican. My life is completely different now.” It’s true that Hayek is married to French gazillionaire Francois-Henri Pinault , but Hispanic blog Guanabee doesn’t see that as an excuse for ignoring her heritage. “What did Salma mean by basically saying she forgot what it’s like to be a Mexican woman?” the site asked in response to Hayek. “That she’s too French and rich for our blood?” Not at all, says the star’s rep. He contacted E! News and explained that the “whole thing has been lost in translation. Salma is not disparaging Mexico in any way.” Translated, this is Hayek’s full quote: “I am proud to be in this movie with all these great actors. The truth is that I almost have to try and remember what it’s like to be Mexican. My life is different now. You cannot make yourself represent something. You have to be an individual, by being the best you can be.”

In legal documents, the star cites “irreconcilable differences” as the basis for the couple’s split. They got married in 2007 and have a two-year old son. Headley was born in Bermuda and has appeared in such movies as The Brothers Grimm and 300 . But she has now broken out as the evil Cersei Lannister on the aforementioned HBO smash. The actor, 23, and the actress, 21, met on the set of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow s in 2010 and agreed to marry within five months of their introduction. “They have split but it is amicable,” an insider tells The Daily Mail , with Jamie – who also plays Caius in The Twilight Saga – admitting he is “heartbroken” by the development. Now that’s a celebrity breakup we did not see coming today. After more than five years of marriage, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce. While many of us were skeptical when they first got together and Tom was proclaiming his love for her on Oprah’s couch, the divorce still comes out of left field. “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” says Holmes’ attorney Jonathan Wolfe, confirming the TomKat split Friday. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.” After a relatively brief courtship, the Rock of Ages star, 49, married the former Dawson’s Creek star Holmes, 33, in an Italian castle in 2006. They have one daughter, six-year-old Suri. No reason was given for the impending Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes divorce, but the couple has not been seen in public together since February (below). This was Holmes’ first marriage and the third for Cruise, who previously was married to Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two adopted children, and Mimi Rogers. It is unclear if divorce papers have formally been filed, but Tom and Katie are believed to have a prenuptial agreement, and are worth at least $275 million. Obviously, Tom’s earnings comprise the bulk of that, but Kate will no doubt receive a significant settlement. Here’s wishing both the best in this tough time. UPDATE, 2:11 EDT : Katie filed for divorce in New York on June 28, citing the catch-all “irreconcilable differences.” She makes no mention of the prenup. She is asking for sole legal custody and “primary residential custody” of Suri and for a “suitable amount” of child support, plus a division of property. According to TMZ, Tom “did not see this coming” and there is some “nastiness” going on here, as evidenced by Katie’s move to get sole legal custody. UPDATE, 4:00 EDT : Tom is “very sad,” according to another source. Photos show he was seen wearing his wedding ring just two days ago while filming a new movie in Iceland; Katie also wore her ring this week in New York. Cruise’s rep also released a brief statement saying: “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children.
