Julia Roberts Elle cover 2010

“I want my kids to know when I#39;m pissed, when I#39;m happy and when I#39;m confounded,” the actress Julia Roberts, 42, and new face of Lancome, tells Elle in its September issue. “Your face tells a story and it shouldn#39;t be a story about your drive to the doctor#39;s office.” Julia Roberts wants to age gracefully, but there#39;s another reason why she#39;ll say no to plastic surgery – especially on her face. Roberts says she simply doesn#39;t understand why some would go to all lengths t

Nicki Minaj Is A Top-Five Candidate For ‘Hottest Breakthrough MCs Of 2010’!

Winner will be revealed on MTV2’s “Sucker Free Summit” Sunday at noon. By Shaheem Reid Nicki Minaj Photo: Young Money/Cash Money It is here: As promised, the top-five vote-getters in our poll for “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” will be revealed this week. These are the artists you guys voted for over the past month, and we can’t express enough how overwhelmed we were by your participation in this project. More than 200,000 votes came in, and they were tallied as of midnight Friday. Keep in mind, the unveiling of the names this week are the top five, but in no particular order. The winner of the “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010,” as voted on by the MTV News audience, will be revealed Sunday (July 25) at noon on the “Sucker Free Summit.” Chosen One: Nicki Minaj Rising in the Ranks : Nicki Minaj went from working at Red Lobster to being the red-hot current face of female hip-hop in less time than it takes to complete college. She’s as much an iconic figure for her standout fashion and beauty as she is for tearing up the mic alongside your favorite MCs. Her rabid following has bought into Minaj’s entire package. The hype is backed by true talent, and she’s unique and feisty. And while every photo you see in the press personifies her glamorous life as a Young Money superstar, Minaj is no different from every other MC who has ascended the heights of their genre. The native of New York’s Jamaica, Queens, neighborhood started at the bottom and had to grind her way to the top. First discovered by Lil Wayne on the street-DVD series On the Come Up, Nicki couldn’t get any love from DJs in her hometown, so she moved to Atlanta. It was there she recorded some verses for Weezy’s Gangsta Grillz: Dedication 3 mixtape — singing and rapping on songs such as “Still I Rise” with the rest of Wayne’s then-mostly unknown crop of new talent, including Drake . Nicki also aligned herself with Gucci Mane, adding heavily to her street credibility and profile. While her sexy image was our first impression of Nicki (who can forget that bathing-suit photo in which she paid homage to Lil’ Kim ?), Minaj really found her own lane during the spring of last year with the Beam Me Up Scotty mixtape, which she put together with Atlanta’s DJ Holiday. Nick showed us she has boundless personality on the mic, bringing forth her Barbie persona and all the charismatic outfits, rhyme flows and vocal inflections that go along with it. Records from the tape — “Kill the DJ,” “I Get Crazy” with Lil Wayne and “Itty Bitty Piggy” — bubbled on the streets for months, allowing Nicki to hit the club circuit with her own shows. In the summer of last year, Nick was spotlighted on the Young Money Presents: The America’s Most Wanted Music Festival , and by the fall, seemingly all the guys in music wanted to get with her. Minaj’s career went to the next level when she started turning in show-stealing cameos, which have carried well into this year. Diddy, Robin Thicke, Ludacris, Sean Garrett, Usher, Jadakiss, Trey Songz, Gucci Mane, Sean Kingston and, of course, her Young Money family all know that she’s developed into one of the most versatile performers in hip-hop — and she still hasn’t released her debut album , which is due late this year. Early Insight : “With [my debut] album, I think it’s more important that people get accustomed to seeing a female rapper again,” Nicki said. “People don’t even know what a female rapper does. We’re so not used to seeing it. We don’t get nominated. I need to work [the people] up to accepting a female rapper again and accepting my style and all of that — then the album will come.” Blistering Ballistics : ” Now all these bitches wanna try and be my bestie/ But I take a left and leave ’em hangin’ like a teste/ Trash talk to ’em, then I put ’em in a Hefty/ Runnin’ down the court/ I’m dunkin’ on ’em, Lisa Leslie/ It’s goin’ down, basement/ ‘Friday the 13th,’ guess who’s playin’ Jason?/ Tuck yourself in, you better hold on to ya teddy/ It’s ‘Nightmare on Elm Street,’ and guess who’s playin’ Freddy?” — from Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad” Forecast : Nicki, who is also a member of the Diddy-led all-star Dream Team, didn’t get an overwhelming response for her debut official single, “Massive Attack,” but the misstep did nothing to hurt her popularity. Her follow-up, “Your Love,” is already a #1 hit (with no video yet!). It was a leaked track that the fans loved so much, program directors on radio were forced to add it. Minaj is working on her yet-untitled first album with Young Money and Swizz Beatz. If she continues to attack her own tracks with the fervor she does on her guest appearances, the LP should be a hands-down winner. MTV News will be rolling out the top-five candidates for “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” all week — with the winner being revealed on MTV2’s “Sucker Free Summit” on Sunday at noon! ‘Scream 4’ Has A ‘Perfect Setup,’ Hayden Panettiere Says

‘For an audience that is so well-versed in ‘Scream’ … it’s trickier to throw them a curveball,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Tim Kash Hayden Panettiere Photo: MTV News With filming of the fourth chapter in the “Scream” franchise under way in Michigan, fans are hard-pressed to find out new details about the fourth film’s notoriously mysterious plotline. However, when MTV News recently caught up with Hayden Panettiere, she said she’s confident the filmmakers are doing the previous movies justice and that the process so far has been a blast. “I think it’s just perfect timing, the amount of time that has passed since the last one came out,” the former “Heroes” star told MTV News. “It’s a perfect setup, with all of these films … the [fictional] ‘Stab’ [movies] and all the things like that. I think with all of the ‘Scream’ [films], the idea is to throw the audience for a loop every time.” Panettiere acknowledged that for savvy audiences, the surprise factor is an even bigger challenge this time around. “For an audience that is so well-versed in ‘Scream’ [films] and in what happens and who becomes the killer, blah, blah, blah, it’s trickier to throw them a curveball,” she said. “I think they’ve done a really cool job with the script. We’ve had a blast on it.” Panettiere also heaped praise on her castmates and director Wes Craven. “Wes Craven is, he not only is the nicest human being, but he’s a brilliant director. And it’s all the original cast as well: Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox and David Arquette. We’ve got an incredible new cast that’s come in, and we have a pretty good team.” The spunky actress said she couldn’t reveal too much about her character Kirby, only that she’s “edgy, sassy and smart. She’s a very strong character.” Other key players in the star-studded cast include Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, Adam Brody, Anthony Anderson and Marley Shelton. “Scream 4” is scheduled to open April 15, 2011. Tim DeKay on Million-Dollar Chandeliers, Tell Me You Love Me and White Collar’s Capers

Characters matter as much as the slickly maneuvered capers and gorgeous Manhattan townhouses in USA’ s White Collar , which returns tonight for its second season. In the comedy-drama, Tim DeKay stars as brilliant FBI agent Peter Burke, who’s responsible for convincing Matthew Bomer’s con man character Neal Caffrey to continually use his forging knowledge for good, not evil. Throughout the process, the cop and criminal inevitably learn a lot about themselves, and as DeKay told Movieline last week, he’s learned plenty from his cable experience, too — including a new eye for interior decoration. DeKay rang us up to discuss the pleasures of guest star work (including his character “Bizarro Jerry” on Seinfeld ), his role on the sexually charged Tell Me You Love Me , and the one intimate scene he’d love to share with Matthew Bomer.

Get Ready For ‘Emo’ Strawberry Shortcake: The Movie

Color me irresponsible, but I’m going to go ahead and deduce that Hasbro’s re-introduction of Strawberry Shortcake this month at Comic-Con is a prelude to the trade story we all know is coming: The aromatic toy will have its own girl-oriented franchise in development by the end of the year. What else is there to expect from the promised “emo” version with a yarn hat and… sex appeal? “She’s always been a girl that Mom and kids adore,” said Jeffrey Conrad, the executive whose company licenses the character to Hasbro. “Now she’ll be able to provide a little extra eye-candy for the fan boys and at Comic-Con.” A direct-to-DVD release is officially planned, but come on . This could be Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for fruit-scented dolls. Developing… [ NYT ]

‘Harry Potter’ Actress Bonnie Wright Dishes On Growing Up With Ginny

‘Being the person who sort of ends up with the hero of this franchise is never something I ever would have imagined,’ she tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Bonnie Wright Photo: MTV News It’s hard to believe that Bonnie Wright was only 9 years old when she first appeared onscreen in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Though looking at production stills of Wright in “Sorcerer’s Stone” through the teasers for “Deathly Hallows,” it’s easy to see the evolution of the young girl grown into the young woman she is today. When MTV News caught up with the actress at the recent opening of Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter , we asked Wright to reflect on how her character, Ginny Weasley, has evolved along with her over the course of the eight “Potter” films. “Being the person who sort of ends up with the hero of this franchise is never something I ever would have imagined,” she said of her character becoming Harry’s love interest. “It’s just been so exciting, so lovely to have something that develops further, and you can make [Ginny] my own and take things from your own life growing up and put those things into it.” Regarding the much-discussed, heavily hyped epilogue , Wright said the “full-on scene” is a fitting end to the series because the filmmakers chose to shoot it as a stand-alone ending, not just a background for the end credits. She added that one of her last scenes in the epilogue was a particularly surreal moment, because her character started and ended her “Potter” journey in the same place. “It wasn’t my last scene, but it was one of my last scenes. That’s where I started the journey of ‘Harry Potter,’ on the platform, and then to see the girl who’s playing our daughter was just psychologically, it was very weird, because she’s the same age as me. It was literally having a whole cycle of the journey.” Wright hopes audiences will appreciate that final scene as much as she did. “I hope it’s well-received. In terms of the prosthetics and creativity of it, they took months and months — I must have done 100 tests and costume fittings. A lot of energy went into making that moment perfect.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Harry Potter’ Actor Tom Felton Sees Draco Malfoy As ‘Vulnerable’

‘Draco, he’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Tom Felton Photo: MTV News “Harry Potter” star (and recent MTV Movie Awards winner ) Tom Felton has seen his star rise steadily since first gracing the big screen as Draco Malfoy in “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Fans have watched the young actor evolve from a one-note bully to a complicated and sometimes vulnerable villain. When MTV News caught up with Felton at the opening of Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park , we asked him about Draco’s growth over the course of the eight films, as well as whether he thinks his character is really all evil. “From my character’s point of view, a lot has been left to interpretation,” Felton said, pinpointing an important-yet-subtle moment from the final film, in which Draco is tasked with the painful decision whether to help or hinder his nemesis’ progress. “[There is] one take where you want to help Harry. The books, I think, kind of left it up to the interpretation of the reader, really, so one way you internally want to help him, the other side where you’re just confused, so I’m intrigued to see which bits David [Yates] cuts out of it.” Regarding Malfoy’s not-so-bad, tortured side, Felton said “Potter” creator J.K. Rowling helped him understand a softer side. “Jo always talked about him as being vulnerable,” Felton said. “Most bullies are. They’re actually hugely insecure and have their own problems, and he has the worst parental guidance of any child I’ve ever seen in my life.” Felton added that when he and Daniel Radcliffe have discussed their characters’ dynamics, they see them as two sides of the same coin. “Harry has these great influences, even though his parents have passed,” Felton said. “Draco, he’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t, really. He’s kind of stuck.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘Eclipse’ Fans Are More ‘Passionate’ Than ‘Spider-Man’ Fans: Bryce Dallas Howard

‘I feel, honestly, pressure being part of it because you don’t want to let anyone down,’ ‘Twilight’ star says. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Bryce Dallas Howard in “Eclipse” Photo: Summit Bryce Dallas Howard has done the mega-blockbuster thing before, playing blonde college gal Gwen Stacy in “Spider-Man 3.” Making the publicity rounds for that film back in 2007, Howard encountered many a gleefully obsessed fan of the web-slinging wonderboy. Yet nothing could prepare her for the zealous intensity of the “Twilight” devotees she met after being cast as Victoria in “Eclipse.” “I feel, honestly, pressure being part of it because you don’t want to let anyone down,” Howard told MTV News recently. “People, myself included, have stayed up at night reading the books over and over and over again, and watching the films over and over and over again, and really loving it so, so intensely. Whereas ‘Spider-Man,’ people are sentimental about it, they love it and are into it and that kind of stuff. Whereas this is passionate.” Adding on the anxiety for Howard was the fact that she entered the “Twilight” universe in a controversial manner. Last July, Summit Entertainment suddenly recast the role of Victoria, booting Rachelle Lefevre from the franchise after two films and signing Howard to take over the part . Rather than inventing her own take on the character, Howard found herself altering her usual approach on set. “[T]he role and the character have been established. It’s so important to honor that in terms of the storytelling,” she said. “When I do a film, I always have all these questions that I’m asking myself, and [for Victoria] someone has mastered that and answered all those questions. Why reinvent the wheel? She created an incredible character.” Are “Twilight” fans the most passionate in the movie world? Sound off below!
