Jessica Alba Calls Her ‘Little Fockers’ Character ‘Totally Crazy’

‘I play a pharmaceutical sales rep who is very, um, outgoing,’ Alba tells MTV News of the Ben Stiller/ Robert De Niro comedy. By Kara Warner Jessica Alba in “Little Fockers” Photo: Paramont In addition to kicking butt in Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete,” Jessica Alba is also appearing among the star-studded cast of “Little Fockers,” the third installment in the franchise that features Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro playing out their often awkward son-in-law vs. overprotective father-in-law relationship. “I play a pharmaceutical sales rep who is very, um, outgoing and has no sense of personal space,” Alba recently told MTV News. She hinted that her character might inadvertently try to get a little too close to Stiller’s lovable Gaylord Focker. “She says exactly what’s on her mind and she has no filter at all,” the actress explained. “She was really fun because I’m pretty much the opposite of that.” Alba admitted that keeping a straight face on set was a big challenge, since most of her scenes were with funnyman Ben Stiller. Still, she had a blast, she said, particularly with her character’s freewheeling ways. “It was just fun and pretty liberating to play someone who was just so open and so free and totally crazy.” “Little Fockers” is set a few months after the events of the last installment, “Meet the Fockers,” as Stiller and Teri Polo’s parents-to-be busily prepare for baby. Producer Jay Roach told MTV News earlier this year that Stiller’s attempt to remain calm is thwarted by a familiar face (and former nemesis). “It’s Owen Wilson coming back with a new passion for Ben’s wife, Teri Polo,” Roach said. “And of course it’s hidden and it’s all under the surface, but it causes a lot of new wrinkles in the relationship between all of them,” the producer explained. In addition to Alba and Wilson, “Fockers” will also feature Dustin Hoffman in the role of Stiller’s father opposite Barbra Streisand, an addition to the cast that was only recently made due to the film reportedly coming in under budget. “Little Fockers” is due in theaters December 22. ‘Takers’ Stars Discuss Importance Of Film’s Fashion

Chris Brown says co-star Hayden Christensen ‘had swag’ in the film. By Shaheem Reid Chris Brown Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images When talking to the cast of the upcoming film “Takers” (arriving in theaters Friday), it was clear that each actor had to not only be sharp with his lines, but with his clothing as well. The film stars Idris Elba, T.I., Chris Brown, Paul Walker, Michael Ealy and Hayden Christensen as a crew of bank robbers out to steal approximately $30 million from an armored car. And when they’re not busy plotting their heist, the crew enjoy the finer things in life, from women to wardrobe. “For my end, my fashion in particular, I had as much input as one could have,” Tip said. “There were some things that were suggested that weren’t me. There were other things that faced adverse opinion at first, but after dialogue and compromise, I saw that it came out and worked best for the character’s presentation for the screen.” “How a man dresses is how you start to create this character,” Idris Elba, who plays the team’s leader, Gordon, affirmed. “I had a big influence on how Gordon looked. My team was in suits, that was a big component.” So with everyone on-set dressed to the nines, who had the flyest outfits? Chris Brown said it was a toss-up. “Hayden dressed dope,” the singer, sitting next to Michael Ealy, who plays his brother in the film, complimented. “You know, the hat, the suspenders. He had swag. That’s kind of my feel [in real life]. “And Idris, he had that white coat on,” Brown continued, referring to a scene where the gang gathers at their hangout spot, a jazz club owned by Ealy’s character. “He had that tuxedo on. Like, ‘Yeah, I’m the leader.’ ” “I saw Idris got to wear the white coat. I was digging the white coat,” Tip agreed. “I saw Hayden got to wear the hat. So everybody had a different element of fashion they brought to the table.” Ealy says it was no contest. “I felt I’m the best dressed through the entire piece,” he joked. “I’ll take best dressed.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Takers.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . The Gay 90210 Character is Who You Thought

How’s your TV gaydar? If you had Trevor Donovan’s Teddy fingered for the mystery gay coming out on 90210 this season, the actor just confirmed it over Twitter : “Acceptance, by family, friends, society and self is just one of the concerns the character will be going through. It is a part of life, and it should be portrayed. I was told, and am confident the storyline will be written very well and the change in the character will be organic, NOT overnight. It’s going to be a great season 3.” I kind of preferred his tweet from the day before: “choose ur outfit with great care every day, because if today is the day you become a zombie, those r the clothes you’ll be wearing forever.” [ Twitter ]

‘Fright Night’ Remake Has ‘Changed A Lot,’ Dave Franco Says

‘That movie would not work today,’ actor tells MTV News of 1985 original. By Kara Warner Dave Franco Photo: Jeff Kravitz/ FilmMagic Aside from casting announcements and filming locations, the buzz surrounding the “Fright Night” remake has been relatively quiet of late. Not that the stellar lineup isn’t excitement enough, which includes Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Toni Collette and Christopher Mintz-Plasse. MTV News recently caught up with newly announced castmember Dave Franco (“Scrubs”) to get insider info on his character, as well as his take on the remake of Tom Holland’s 1985 campy horror classic. “I play the a–hole,” Franco said of his character. “It’s fun, but I just keep getting cast as the a–hole, which I don’t know how to take. … I promise, I’m a really nice guy,” he insisted, adding that his character is basically the school bully. “He has no redeeming qualities, so you’re just going to hate me throughout this whole thing and be praying for my death.” Subtle foreshadowing perhaps, Dave? Regarding the new version of the ’85 slasher, Franco said director Craig Gillespie has put his own spin on it. “The original is very campy, very ’80s in an awesome way. … It’s a cult classic. That movie would not work today,” Franco said. “It’s obviously the same concept, but a lot has changed to make everything make sense now. For example, my character wasn’t even in the original, so they’ve changed a lot and added a lot of school elements, just let it build a little more.” Franco went on to say that the one element that will remain unchanged is the gore factor. “I’ve seen some footage of the bloodier scenes, and I personally am a huge horror fan. What I like about this movie is that they’re really going for it,” he said of the film’s hard-R rating. “It is disgusting, but not in, like, a ‘Saw’-type way, where it’s overly horror-porn that’s almost unnecessary. This one, they’re definitely going for it. It’s a hard R.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Fright Night.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Demi Lovato Reveals Her Tour Wardrobe Inspiration: Rihanna

‘I’m a huge Rihanna fan and I also love spikes and anything leather,’ Lovato says of her tour attire. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato Photo: MTV News Demi Lovato is currently on the road with the Jonas Brothers for their “Camp Rock 2” tour, and she has one killer wardrobe, complete with bedazzled boots, lots of funky jewelry and cool, little dresses. So Lovato, who has admitted to shopping on tour, was a bit nervous when she gave MTV News a behind-the-scenes look at her outfits for the tour. Lovato said that in the weeks leading up to the trek, she really had to focus and nail down the looks she wanted for her performances, which would include sets of her singing her own tunes as well as tunes from the “Camp Rock” movies. That means she needed looks that were both Lovato and Mitchie, her character from the movies. “When it comes to picking out outfits for the tour, I had a rack that filled out an entire warehouse,” she shared. “I just went through it and it took me like six, seven hours to fit all the outfits for the tour. It was fun!” One of those looks is an edgy black and feather dress that screamed Lady Gaga. “It’s a dress and I’ve never really performed my own set in a dress before,” she shared at a rehearsal days before the tour kicked off last week. “So I’m excited.” Another look was a sparkly teal dress that included some sky-high heels. “This is for one of the ‘Camp Rock’ looks that I sing the duet [‘Wouldn’t Change a Thing’ with Joe Jonas] in, and here are the crazy shoes also,” she said. “I mean they’re not crazy like Lady Gaga, but for me they are. I’ve never performed in stilettos, so we’ll see how this goes.” Lovato also shows off a multicolored dress with a little bronze jacket that suits her “Camp Rock” alternate persona perfectly. “Here’s another ‘Camp Rock,’ dress. Not something I would typically wear, but my character would,” she explained. So, what inspires Lovato’s fashion choices for the show? “I feel like it’s more Rihanna than Lady Gaga. I’m a huge Rihanna fan and I also love spikes and anything leather,” she said, before showing off some heavy metal jewelry. “And I have this crazy jewelry. Actually this one [ring] is pretty crazy [with all its spikes], and the bracelets have twice as many spikes. Overall, I guess you can say there’s a ton of spikes in my wardrobe.” Related Videos MTV News Extended Play: Demi Lovato Related Artists Demi Lovato

‘Glee’ Star Jane Lynch Set To Host ‘Saturday Night Live’

‘I notified her by accident,’ ‘Glee’ creator Ryan Murphy said of Lynch’s ‘SNL’ hosting gig. By Jocelyn Vena Jane Lynch Photo: Todd Williamson/WireImage Jane Lynch is about to get her funny on when she hosts “Saturday Night Live” next season. “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy confirmed the rumor on Tuesday night in New York City at the “Eat Pray Love” premiere. The Hollywood Reporter spoke to Murphy at the premiere and he confirmed reports that Emmy-nominated Lynch will be onboard to helm an “SNL” episode in October. “I notified her by accident,” Murphy said. ” ‘Saturday Night Live’ called to say, ‘Would you give us Jane for a week in October?’ We just don’t do that, but for Lorne Michaels, I said yes.” Murphy then quickly texted his star to let her know she’d have to spend some time in New York City later this fall. “I said, ‘Lady, you’re doing ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ” Murphy explained. “And she literally wrote back, ‘What are you talking about?’ I think we’re all going to go to see her and support her.” However, a rep for “Saturday Night Live” told MTV News via email that “We haven’t confirmed any hosts or musical guests yet.” Until then, Lynch will be turning the lives of the Gleeks upside down as Sue Sylvester on the new season of “Glee” when it kicks off in September. So, what will her character be up to? Well, even Lynch is in the dark. “I don’t know! I have no idea!” Lynch, who very comically parodied Madonna’s “Vogue” last season , told MTV News last month. “I haven’t even seen a script and I don’t have any idea!” Are you excited that Jane Lynch will be hosting “Saturday Night Live” this fall? Vanessa Hudgens Grows Up In ‘Rent’ At The Hollywood Bowl

Director Neil Patrick Harris says it’s great to watch the actress ‘allow herself to be so exposed to these people.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Matt Elias Vanessa Hudgens Photo: MTV News “High School Musical” alum Vanessa Hudgens is taking her song-and-dance skills to a brand-new stage. The actress appears this weekend in a Hollywood Bowl production of “Rent,” helmed by Neil Patrick Harris, alongside stars such as Wayne Brady and Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger. The award-winning Broadway smash, which explores the complicated lives of a cast of downtown New Yorkers, is a far cry from the cheery story lines of the “High School Musical” franchise. However, Hudgens said she’s up for mounting the challenging play, which demanded that the cast prepare with only a single punishing week of rehearsals. “It’s been insanity,” Hudgens told MTV News about the grueling schedule. “[The] first two days was [everyone gathering] around the piano and the rest of them [were] just trying to figure out where you are. It’s kind of like, you do it [and then] it’s like, ‘You did it! Great, moving on.’ You’re like … ‘OK, it’s OK, I’ll just figure it out on my own time.’ ” Like “HSM,” “Rent” (which was brought to the big screen in 2005) has a die-hard following. Hudgens, who plays a drug-addicted dancer, has her own take on the play. “For me I think the strongest thing is how my character Mimi finds strength within love,” Hudgens said. “I’m a hopeless romantic, so it gets me every time.” The similarities pretty much end there, as Hudgens acknowledged. “It’s 100 percent different than ‘High School Musical’ because the characters [have] so much more to deal with and [my character goes] through such a massive journey. Each song really shows a different side of the character,” Hudgens said. The actress also credited her director for helping her get back into the musical mind-set. “It’s exciting. Getting back into it has been kind of like a leap of faith, but I know I’m in good hands with Neil.” Harris said witnessing Hudgens’ vulnerability in the play is compelling to watch. “As people get to be older and older, they start disassociating themselves from different types of people. And this ‘Rent’ world sort of does the opposite: It encourages all of that. The diversity that these 25 people have … just fills your heart,” Harris said. “To watch someone like Vanessa open up and allow herself to be so exposed to these people is really great for me as a director to see.” What do you think of Vanessa Hudgens starring in “Rent”?
