Vincent Gallo is Suing Los Angeles, Because Of Course

Of all the random shenanigans actor/filmmaker/ online purveyor of fine goods Vincent Gallo has pulled, suing the city of Los Angeles kind of makes the most sense of them all. Consider: According to TMZ , Gallo filed a lawsuit to shut down the Arts District Business Improvement District plan, which uses taxpayer money to patrol, safeguard, and improve the downtown L.A. arts district. Gallo reportedly wants the program shut down and $1.3 million returned because it’s purportedly wasteful and provides “no benefit.” In other news: The Brown Bunny star’s personal services are still available for purchase! Now that’s money well spent, I’m sure. [ TMZ ]

Exclusive: Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Priority Was ‘Not Dying’ In ‘Premium Rush’

Gordon-Levitt talks to MTV News about getting in shape for his role as a bike messenger thrown into an ‘extreme scenario.’ By Kevin P. Sullivan Joseph Gordon-Levitt in “Premium Rush” Photo: Columbia TriStar Few actors can claim to have a 2012 quite as full of big movies as Joseph Gordon-Levitt . The 31-year-old actor isn’t just reteaming with his ” Inception ” director, Christopher Nolan, for ” The Dark Knight Rises ,” but he’s also starring in one of the most talked-about releases of the year, ” Looper ,” and preparing his directorial debut, “Don Jon’s Addiction.” On top of all that, this summer he’ll headline ” Premium Rush ,” an action film about a bike messenger caught up in a conspiracy. MTV News spoke with Gordon-Levitt about learning to bike like a pro, acting opposite Michael Shannon and trying not to die in the process. MTV News : A bike messenger isn’t exactly your typical action hero. What was your reaction when you first heard the concept? Joseph Gordon-Levitt : I just think it’s kind of a brilliant idea. It’s a summer popcorn action movie. Instead of glorifying cars and gun, it glorifies bicycles. I think that’s great. MTV News : It’s kind of refreshing lo-fi. Gordon-Levitt : I think that makes the action, in a way, a lot more exciting. There’s no computer-generated action in this movie. It’s all guys that actually performed these things. I had four doubles in this movie. Every day, I rode all day, but there are four other guys who are good at different things. One of them is an actual bike messenger; he rides really fast in traffic. One of them is really good at riding a trial bike, a different sort of bike, which is good jumping and stuff. Another guy does tricks but on a fixed gear bike. Another guy’s an actual Hollywood stunt man, so he’s getting hit by cars. Honestly, when an audience sees a real human being doing things, it’s just more exciting than computer-generated, what amounts to a cartoon. MTV News : How realistic is the biking in this movie? Gordon-Levitt : It’s pretty realistic. It’s definitely a fun action popcorn movie, so you know, it’s a guy in an extreme scenario. It’s not like a slice of life, everyday thing. It’s a movie like “Speed” or “Die Hard,” where a guy ends up in an extreme situation and has to deal with it. I’m on the bike most of the time. It is a movie that takes place a lot on a bike, of course, not the entire time. It all takes place in one day, and it’s a chase movie. MTV News : How long did you train to get yourself into bike-messenger shape? Gordon-Levitt : I trained every day for a couple months leading up to this movie. I rode hard every day and all day. That will take it out of you. You have to be in the proper condition to do that kind of thing. I was definitely in really good shape when we were shooting. You can’t get to be like what these guys do in a short amount of time. The guys who doubled me, they rode bikes their whole lives and are some of the best in the world. I wasn’t doing any crazy tricks or anything like that. That’s what the doubles were doing, but I definitely was riding a lot, riding through traffic, riding with cars, riding fast and doing scenes at the same time, performing dialogue and stuff. Those were definitely my favorite scenes to do. The cool thing was that we actually shot it. They would put a camera on the back of a motorcycle and go down the street, and I would ride and perform a whole scene on the phone, riding through traffic. That’s a really fun way to do a scene. MTV News : Where are your priorities when you’re acting in a scene like that? Gordon-Levitt : The priority is not dying. You can do another take and get the scene right, but then it’s just about rehearsing enough. Doing line, that’s something I’m good at. I can do that easy. It actually makes it more fun, makes the lines come to life more, to put them on a bike like that. MTV News : Similarly, having Michael Shannon as the villain has to make that character easier to fear. Gordon-Levitt : Man, that guy! I think he’s one of the best going, honestly. When I found out that he was going to play the villain, I was like, “Oh, wow. Now this is a movie.” To be perfectly frank, he is by far my favorite part of the movie. Honestly, he is so good. It’s definitely worth seeing “Premium Rush” just to see Michael Shannon play this villainous New York cop in an action movie. It’s f—ing great. Missy Elliott’s ‘Eavesdropping’ Led To Monica’s ‘So Gone’

‘I’m embracing the things that are different now and the things that have changed for me,’ Monica tells MTV News of New Life album. By Rob Markman Monica Photo: MTV News Monica may have titled her latest album New Life, but there are some things the velvety-voiced singer wanted to keep the same — including her working relationship with Missy Elliott . ” New Life was just me saying, ‘This is the place that I’m at and I’m embracing the things that are different now and the things that have changed for me,’ ” she told MTV News on Tuesday (April 10). The duo have worked together for years, and in 2003, they came up with one of Monica’s most memorable songs to date: “So Gone.” It’s a chemistry that neither wants to abandon anytime soon. “Missy is one of my dearest friends, and I think her humility and her compassion for other people is what makes her music so great,” Monica said. The bond that both women share is the reason they yield such memorable results. “Knock Knock,” “A Dozen Roses (Remind Me of You)” and the Grammy-nominated “Everything to Me” are just a few of the records on which they’ve collaborated. Monica counts “So Gone” as her favorite to date. “She wrote that record after eavesdropping on my phone conversation,” Monica recalled, laughing. “So when you think about things like that, that can only be done by somebody that’s very close to you.” Elliott didn’t write Monica’s lyrics — Jazmine Sullivan gets credit for that — but Missy did produce the breakup ode. The two worked out of Missy’s house in Atlanta and came up with songs that were vocally challenging for the veteran singer. This time, though, there was no eavesdropping. “When it came to ‘Until It’s Gone,’ I probably was just sharing,” Monica laughed. “I was already in a sharing mood.” What’s your favorite song from Monica’s New Life ? America’s Best Dance Crew Stages ‘Return Of The Superstars’

Season seven will be ‘incredible,’ ABDC judge JC Chasez tells MTV News; It all starts Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV! By Kara Warner with reporting by James Lacsina Dancers on “America’s Best Dance Crew” Photo: MTV Do you feel that extra energy in the air? Are your toes tappin’ for no reason? Those feelings can only mean one thing: There’s just one day left until the season seven premiere of “Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew.” Every season has been one for the record books, simply because the talent among the diverse dance crews just keeps getting better. Season seven is shaping up to be the best season yet, but don’t take our word for it, check out what ABDC judges JC Chasez and Lil Mama said when MTV News caught up with them recently. “The only thing that’s going to be able to top last season is an incredible performance,” Chasez told MTV News recently. “That’s what we’re all waiting for, the next great performance. What is this next star going to do to raise the bar? That’s what we’re hoping to get out of this next season.” “The show is so innovative it’s always new,” added Lil Mama. “There’s always new chemistry. When the crews come onto the show, of course they build a fanbase, but what is more important is that they build a family base,” she explained. “They build a family and they become family with one another and when they come out on that stage everything that they go through they go through together as a crew, together as a unit of ABDC and as individuals.” This season, dubbed “Return of the Superstars,” will feature nine all-new hip-hop dance crews and one returning past crew, a fan favorite from season two, Fanny Pak. This is the first time in the series’ history a crew from a prior season will return to compete for the title. In addition, each episode will have a different theme, built around a popular celebrity artist. Dance crews will be challenged to push themselves to create astonishing performances inspired by the music and persona of the artist of the week. Those artists include Madonna, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Pitbull, David Guetta, Flo Rida and LMFAO, among others. Don’t miss the season seven premiere of airing Wednesday, April 11, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV! For continuing “Crew” coverage, be sure to check in with MTV’s blog. Related Artists JC Chasez Lil Mama

Bristol Palin to Levi Johnston: You Owe Me Money, Deadbeat!

Levi Johnston may be looking forward to becoming a dad for the second time, but if Bristol Palin’s most recent allegations of him being a deadbeat dad are true, he may want to reconsider how he goes about parenthood. We’ll cut to the chase: Bristol says Levi owes $38,500 in back child support . The daughter of ex-Alaska governor Sarah Palin and two-time ex-fiancee of Levi claims he is required to pay $1,750 a month in support for son Tripp, 3. He allegedly last did so in June 2010 … 22 months ago. As for why Bristol Palin hasn’t tried to enforce the supposed order via wage garnishment or other means to make Levi, who got girlfriend Sunny Oglesby pregnant earlier this year, she says it’s a complicated situation. Ya think? Bristol’s lawyer told TMZ that the younger Palin declined to “pursue child support collection in the (perhaps naive) hope that Mr. Johnston would do what men are supposed to do and pay his support obligation voluntarily.” The lawyer adds, “We were also concerned that garnishment or other aggressive collection efforts could exacerbate an already strained relationship.” Probably true, but there must be more to it. Our first guess: He doesn’t have $1,750/month to spare. It’s Levi Johnston. What does that guy even do? Besides get women pregnant, we mean. We’re talking about for a living. He and Sunny Oglesby confirmed her pregnancy earlier this week after the news leaked … maybe second time’s the charm for the Wasilla Wonder?

The Wanted Step Up The Swagger: New Single Details!

The guys put their signature bad-boy attitude in the spotlight on ‘Chasing the Sun.’ By Jocelyn Vena The Wanted Photo: Steve Thorne/ Redferns The Wanted recently described their new single, “Chasing the Sun,” as being “in the same vein” as their smash “Glad You Came.” Well, the guys didn’t lie. On Thursday (April 5), the guys dropped their latest single off their self-titled U.S. debut, and it’s full of fist-pumping beats and sing-along chants. The club-banger, with its swirling production and booming beat, is a bit more aggressive than “Glad You Came” though. It has more in-your-face moments in terms of the way the song grinds along, corresponding to the fivesome’s signature bad-boy swagger. “We’ve only just begun/ Hypnotized by drums/ Until forever comes/ You’ll find us chasing the sun,” the guys proclaim on the track, written by British rapper and singer Example. They continue, “They said this day wouldn’t come/ We refuse to run/ We’ve only just begun/ You’ll find us chasing the sun.” Where “Glad” focuses on the guys romancing ladies with double entendres and innuendos, “Chasing” seems to be about the guys declaring that no matter what, in love and life, nothing can stop them from going all the way. And yes, the expected sexy moments are still there, as evidenced by lines like, “When the daylight’s fading/ We’re gonna play in the dark/ Until it’s golden again.” The song’s release coincides with their appearance on Thursday night’s “American Idol.” Their U.S. album hits shelves on April 24, and the guys will also appear on an episode of MTV’s “Punk’d” later this season. “To be in the U.S. is amazing,” bandmember Siva Kaneswaran said recently. “But just as long as we go out there and be ourselves and the U.S. takes us as we are, we’re just coming over here to have a laugh.” Related Artists The Wanted
