So… are The Mysteries of Laura worth taking the time to solve? NBC offered up a special presentation of Debra Messing’s new drama last night, which featured the former Will and Grace star as Laura Diamond, teased by the network as one bad mutha, putting criminals away during the day and dealing with two crazed twins at night. Unfortunately, The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 1 painted this character instead as simply one bad mother. Watch The Mysteries of Laura Season 1 Episode 1 Online The tone shifted often on the pilot, with its opening few minutes depicting Messing’s law enforcement officer shooting off a criminal’s eat and then going home to find her sons peeing all over each other. (At least they inherited their mom’s good aim!) Then there’s Laura’s estranged husband, Jake, played by Josh Lucas. He has a history of indiscretions and can’t exactly be trusted, but he won’t sign the couple’s divorce papers, either. So Laura will be stuck with Jake at home AND at work because a twist ending (we won’t give it totally away here if you wish to watch The Mysteries of Laura online and see it for yourself) causes Jake to also become Laura’s new boss at work. AWKWARD! The whole show is a bit awkward, really, neither overly dramatic or funny. It doesn’t really know what it is. It also drives home the annoying stereotype that it’s just SOOOO tough for women to work and also act as mothers. Can’t we be done with this already? With Teen Mom 2 Season 5 drawing to a close in the coming weeks, speculation has already started swirling around a potential Teen Mom 2 Season 6. MTV is notoriously mum on these things. It took more than a year’s time for Teen Mom 2 Season 5 to make it to air after Season 4 came to an end. Meanwhile, the original Teen Mom will have been off the air for 2-3 years (!) by the time it returns sans Farrah Abraham in 2015. If that really happens. Any word on Season 6 may be a long time coming, in other words, but the success of Season 5 might lead to a relative rush job from the network. Last night’s Teen Mom 2 Season 5 Episode 23 proved once again that the baby mama drama is only getting more layered and interesting over time. We’re not even kidding. The co-parenting struggles, custody battles and new members of the Teen Mom family coming into the world make for great TV. Does the reality show still resonate with impressionable youths? Maybe, maybe not, since Jenelle Evans , Kailyn Lowry, Chelsea Houska and Leah Messer aren’t even teens anymore, as they were on 16 & Pregnant . At the same time, it’s become a compelling drama as the fab four have come of age, and it’s undeniably true that life hasn’t become any more of a walk in the park. Through it all, these girls – women, believe it or not at this point – are fighting to beat the odds and finish school (Kailyn Lowry and Chelsea Houska). That, or they’re welcoming new children (Jenelle Evans and Leah Messer ), while struggling to make it work with their exes (Leah, Kailyn and Chelsea). The celebrity factor doesn’t hurt, either, from a PR standpoint. There’s no shortage of coverage given the stars’ quasi-famous status, especially thanks to their own Twitter and Instagram feeds (Jenelle especially). It’s free publicity in an era of tight budgets. What’s not to love? MTV has to renew it, right? It has to know that if fans continue to watch TV online , this is a show that could continue to find its niche and even grow its audience. Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have long been considered one of Hollywood’s most stable couples. While Amber Portwood and Jenelle Evans’ addictions to drugs get a lot more publicity, Chelsea Houska’s addiction to Adam Lind is almost more incredible. No matter how many times he dumps her, cheats on her, or generally treats her like absolute ass, she could not come back for more any faster. If you watch Teen Mom 2 online , you know that Adam left Chelsea and had another baby daughter with his new girlfriend Taylor Halbur, devastating her. On the midseason premiere of Teen Mom 2 Season 5, the fab four returned with drama galore as all faced problems related to parenting and relationships. A day in the life … or every day in the life. You don’t have to watch Teen Mom 2 online to know Jenelle Evans and Nathan Griffith just had a baby. Well, here we finally see this play out on TV! In the midseason opener, the duo were on their way to the doctor’s appointment to learn the sex of their future offspring and, Jenelle says things are good. Must have caught her in a good hour. As previously reported by celebrity gossip outlets, when Nathan learns it’s a boy, he gets so excited, he cheers loudly and then kisses Jenelle repeatedly. Reality TV at its best (seriously) … and even Jenelle Evans ‘ mom Barbara is stoked about a second grandson. At least until she learns the name. Kaiser, she says, sounded like a kind of beer. Nathan, with whom she occasionally butts heads, explained to her the name is German for “emperor.” They have bigger problems, too. While Jenelle’s charges were dropped after her recent arrest, Nathan is looking at at least 30 days in jail for his third DUI. In West Virginia, Leah Messer is happy that Jeremy Calvert took a new job, two hours away, so that he could be closer to home and not out of state. Leah has also picked up her own part-time job to help pay Ali‘s medical bills. Ali, if you really, was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy last season. Despite being distraught, Leah tells Corey Simms that instead of being upset about the diagnosis, they should be inspired by how strong the little one is. At least Leah and Jeremy’s baby girl, Adalynn, says her first words on camera. Appropriately, and happily, the little one said mama and dada! On a more dramatic note, Chelsea Houska learns that Adam was in a very serious car accident, and is gravely worried about his and Aubree‘s safety. Chelsea reveals to her dad, Randy, that Aubree saw Adam a week later, and told Chelsea he had a bump on his head from hitting the steering wheel. This was actually the least of her worries. Later, Chelsea received a letter in the mail that South Dakota was withholding her esthetics license because of a complaint filed against her. She allegedly did makeup at a wedding while she was unlicensed, which is illegal if you receive payment with no license for it. Not good, Chels. Meanwhile, Kailyn Lowry’s son Isaac did not want to spend the weekend at father Jo Rivera’s house, and actually tried to beg out of this. So sad. She might have been smiling a little inside selfishly, but Kailyn realized this isn’t okay, and even told new husband Javi that he should visit Jo more often. Moreover, that Javi should encourage him to go see Jo as a positive thing … as the male figure in Isaac’s life when Jo is not around, Javi is looked up to. Things aren’t all great on the home front, though, as Javi does not like her attitude. Basically she’s mean and unpleasant, whether it’s intended or not. What can we expect from the fab four on the back half of Teen Mom 2 Season 5, which makes a long-awaited return on MTV tomorrow night (July 16)? Clearly, they have a lot on their respective plates. Because of the lag in production time and the quasi-celebrity status of the cast, we already know much of what we’ll see when we watch Teen Mom 2 . Not everything, though. Here’s what’s to come … Teen Mom 2 Season 5 Trailer (Part 2) For Jenelle Evans, perhaps the most famous, or infamous, Teen Mom still on MTV (sorry Farrah Abraham ), this season will show her trying motherhood. The North Carolina student is also the mother of four-year-old Jace, but she hasn’t had custody of him in forever. Now, she’s going to welcome #2. Having given birth June 29 to baby boy Kaiser with Nathan Griffith – an ex-Marine who she says deserves a “greatest dad award” – Jenelle Evans ‘ life is in flux. In a good way, we hope. Rumor has it Nathan will propose … soon. For Leah Messer Calvert, her marriage has hit even more snags. With her pipeline engineer husband and dad of Adalynn, 17 months, working out of state, “I wouldn’t hear from him for a couple days,” she says. Counseling has remedied that, but she’s also got 4-year-olds Aliannah and Aleeah (with ex Corey Simms) to contend with. How’s it all going? “This is the relationship we’re supposed to have,” she says. We can only hope that’s true, as Leah has the most responsibilities of any of the four by far. To take nothing away from Kailyn Lowry, of course. After countless custody fights, Kailyn – now married with a second child by Javi Marroquin – and baby daddy Jo Rivera have finally struck a peace deal. “We make our own rules as we go,” Lowry says of that situation. Often, in a contentious relationship, that’s as good as it gets. She’s not happy in her marriage to Javi, however. Adjusting to life with Lincoln, 8 months, “was a struggle,” though she still thinks a “rhythm that works” is attainable. Finally, there’s Chelsea Houska, who swears she is never, ever getting back with Adam Lind, who will remain a thorn in her side for the rest of his life. Whatever their relationship status, he has a way of making her life worse … although she’s got a good job and is into CrossFit now, so there’s that. Teen Mom 2 Season 6 looks like it’s a go on MTV sometime later this year or early next. Jenelle Evans, Kailyn Lowry, Leah Messer and Chelsea Houska are all in! Producers had planned to end the MTV hit series after the current fifth season, which itself began after a long hiatus and uncertainty regarding the show’s future. Due to increased popularity, however, they’ve had a change of heart, and unlike the original Teen Mom set, all four stars are now on board for a sixth round. “Producers saw that ratings were so high,” a source explained. “And now there’s a whole new crop of drama: Jenelle Evans is pregnant, and Leah and Jeremy are talking divorce. It would be foolish to stop filming now.” Well, that sums the situation up rather succinctly, doesn’t it? Evans is expecting her first child with boyfriend Nathan Griffith , a boy to be named Kaiser, in late June. Her son Jace, 4, lives with Evans’ mother Barbara. Mother-of-three Messer has admitted to “struggles” in her marriage to second child, Jeremy Calvert, while Kailyn Lowry welcomed her second child recently. Jenelle Evans ‘ legal problems ironically took place in an episode where she was headed to court because of prior heroin charges, and cut a deal to avoid jail. Nathan Griffith had a feeling something might have been amiss, though, and not just because Courtland Rogers shows up creeping in the parking lot. Just as Jenelle’s plea deal is accepted, the judge blindsides her with a drug test, which she fails (marijuana) and leaves her shaking win abject terror. Later, Nathan shows up at Jenelle’s mom’s house to share the news that Jenelle has been arrested. Barbara Evans, Jenelle’s mom, is flat out furious. Barbara admits that she’s glad Jenelle went to jail, and warns Nathan that she’ll ruin everyone’s life (his included). At least she didn’t blame him … After 48 hours in jail, the Carolina Hurricane is cut loose to serve eight months of unsupervised probation, so nothing TOO bad came out of this somehow. There’s more drama in store for her, though. When she gets home, she finds that Nathan was talking to another girl on Facebook and starts flipping out, despite his claims that she’s just a friend. It results in a huge fight, despite the fact that Nathan got her flowers, fixed up the house, went to Barbara’s straight from jail, then picked up Jenelle. In the end, Jenelle calms down and seems to realize that his actions didn’t warrant that kind of freak-out. They hug it out and things appear to be okay. Well, relatively speaking of course. With Jenelle Evans, the next big blowup is always just around the corner and there’s no telling what might trigger it. We really hope she can mitigate this. Otherwise … those poor kids. 🙁 The big day is here for Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin. Legally married for a while, they are about to make it official in front of their friends and families. When the moment finally comes, it’s son Isaac who walks Kailyn down the aisle. Now that is about the sweetest thing you’ll see on any show out there. Kailyn and Javi wrote their own vows to each other. During the vows, Isaac asks Kailyn if she’s happy, and she tells him yes. He is just the cutest little guy. She looks gorgeous in her gown and Javi looks great in that tux. We’re happy for them. They even got their first kiss just about perfect. CONGRATULATIONS! Chelsea Houska, in order to graduate from business school, had to complete 600 hours of classes and training. That’s not a small feat for the single mama. In order to celebrate, Chelsea’s adorable daughter Aubree and her mother and father, Mary and Randy Houska, come to watch Chelsea’s graduation. While waiting for her aesthetician license to be approved by the State of South Dakota, Chelsea gets proactive and goes on a job interview, and she gets the job! Way to go, girl! Chelsea starts her new job, Aubree is in daycare full time, and we don’t even have to talk about Adam Lind for a week! This is the best! Leah Messer‘s husband Jeremy Calvert got that lucrative job offer in New Mexico, which would be one thing if he hadn’t turned down another opportunity locally. She knows this, of course, because went through his Facebook messages, which you don’t need Teen Mom 2 Season 5 Episode 10 to tell you is a major no-no. Leah is clearly upset about Jeremy going away for work again, but snooping on him does not help her cause. They’re fighting more than ever, it seems. Later, Jeremy is packing for his job in New Mexico while Leah wrangles her kids. Despite her best efforts, Jeremy leaves for the job, and she is not happy. She and Corey Simms, meanwhile, remain amicable and committed to co-parenting, but maybe talking about their relationship issues isn’t the best idea. Miss an episode? Want another look?
