Aspiring Journalist And Son Of Chicago Officer Killed Senselessly Arshell Dennis III, known affectionately to his family as “Trey” was gunned down in Chicago this week and police think he may have been killed because of “gang initiations”. The 19 year-old was a junior at St. John’s University, where he studied journalism. The teen was home in Chicago visiting his family when his life was taken. Dennis was hanging on a porch with a friend when someone approached them with a gun and started shooting according to The Chicago Tribune . Body Cam Footage Seems To Show Chicago Police Fired First, Paul O’Neal Was Unarmed Despite conveniently capturing everything but the fatal shot that killed Paul O’Neal after a car chase through Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood, The Chicago Tribune reports that police body cams may have recorded just enough to show just how few f—s were given in this latest wrongful police shooting. In the minutes following O’Neal’s death, the officers involved realized that not only did the teenager not fire at police before crashing the stolen Jaguar he was driving; he may not have had a weapon at all. In fact: the officer who shot O’Neal in the back sounded worried about how the shooting would be judged. His sergeant was unbothered, though. The officer who believed he had fired the fatal shot initially thought shots had been fired at his police car from the speeding Jaguar when it actually came from officers down the street shooting toward the Jaguar. While the body camera attached to the uniform of that officer did not capture the fatal shot, a video showed that the officer’s body camera was operating after the shooting and was still recording when police processing the scene asked him to walk through the backyard where he fired his gun and help them find the shell casings. A sergeant asked whether the shots fired at the officer came from the rear of the yard, but the officer told him the shots fired in his direction happened back on the street moments before the stolen car chase ended in a collision. “No, the shots were coming at us when the car was coming at us,” the officer said before describing how he ended up in the backyard chasing O’Neal on foot. “I took off this way, he was coming over this way,” he said, indicating different sections of the backyard. “When I approached this, I didn’t know if he was armed or not.” As seconds passed in the backyard, the officer grew distraught and feared that it would be judged a bad shooting. “Man, this is so f—– up, man. I don’t want nothing to happen to that f—— guy, dude,” he said to the sergeant. “The way s—‘s going man, I’m going to be f—— crucified, bro.” At that point, the sergeant sought to reassure the officer, citing the car theft as justification for what happened. “Relax, he was in a hot car. Aaron Leetch And Torrey Ward Deaths Illinois State University is currently in mourning after two members of their coaching staff’s lives ended in tragedy. After attending Monday’s NCCA Basketball championship game in Indianapolis, Aaron Leetch (L) and Torrey Ward (R) were killed when their small plane crashed. The Chicago Tribune reports: Two members of Illinois State University’s athletic department were among the seven people killed when their small plane crashed near the Bloomington airport while returning from the NCAA basketball championship game in Indianapolis, authorities said. They were identified as Aaron Leetch, deputy director of athletics for external operations, and Torrey Ward, associate head coach of the Redbirds men’s basketball team. “The entire campus (is) in mourning,” ISU President Larry Dietz said in a statement. Two other victims have been identified: Terry Stralow, a partner in a popular bar in Bloomington-Normal, and Scott Bittner, owner of a meat-processing company and owner of the twin-engine Cessna 414 that crashed. No information about the others killed was available, but authorities said everyone on board died in the crash. The plane left the Indianapolis airport about 11 p.m. Monday and hit heavy fog over central Illinois, authorities said. About 12:15 a.m., radar contact with the plane was lost, according to the sheriff’s office. A search was launched, and a Bloomington police officer discovered the wreckage in a field northeast of the airport, the office said. “It was determined that there were no survivors,” the office said. At some point “that radio contact was lost,” he said. Olson did not say if the pilot indicated experiencing any trouble. The pilot did not cancel the flight plan or make any alterations in flight, he said. So sad, condolences to the families of the coaches and the rest of the victims.

According to Chicago Tribune: Every weekday, Masharah Tingling says her dad would walk her to her school and be waiting for her when classes finished up. But on Wednesday afternoon, their ritual went terribly wrong when the two were confronted by a man with a lengthy criminal record on a Rogers Park street, according to Chicago police and Cook County prosecutors. When the man hurled a racial epithet at them, Michael Tingling pulled his 15-year-old daughter behind him, authorities said. The man then struck her father in the chest, he tried to defend himself but moments later he collapsed in a nearby business and was rushed to the hospital in full cardiac arrest, according to prosecutors. Michael Tingling, 59, was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston less than a hour. According to the mother, Firek “stared at them, looked at her up and down, and her dad grabbed her, put her behind him and he told him, ‘You need to walk away.’“The guy was just standing there grinning,” she said. In court, prosecutors said Tingling had pulled his daughter behind him after Firek had stopped in their path and asked, “What (N-word)?” Authorities said Tingling is black and Firek is white. Assistant State’s Attorney Rita Infelise said Firek punched Tingling in the upper chest. Tingling pushed him, and Firek punched him again in the chest, she said. A judge ordered Joseph Firek, 59, who is on parole for a residential burglary conviction, held on $250,000 bail Friday on charges of first-degree murder and a hate crime. It’s a shame people can’t even pick up their daughter from school without experiencing such hate.
