By James Dinh “Jersey Shore” star Deena appears on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News Long before her fist-pumping days in Seaside Heights, “Jersey Shore” star Deena Nicole Cortese was already causing a commotion over her suggestive dance-floor skills. On the latest installment of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” the reality TV newcomer reminiscences about her dirty-dancing antics. “When I was 17, I quit cheerleading and started dancing,” Deena says on Saturday’s episode. “It was great because me and my one girlfriend were the captains of it, and we were, like, making up the dance moves. We got to pick out our outfits and I got to show my dance moves off. It kind of brought my music into the dance team.” With her newfound creative freedom, the New Jersey native whipped up a sassy dance routine. But the high school’s staff wasn’t too impressed with Deena’s choreography. “I remember making up this crazy dance move, like sexy moves, you know, like shaking your butt,” she admits. “Everybody was sitting there like, ‘Oh my God, where did that come from?’ ” Childhood friend Jaimie also remembers the controversy. “Our small town wasn’t ready for the dance moves that came out of Deena’s mind, and definitely made the teachers raise an eyebrow of what was going on,” she says. Despite the reaction of the faculty, the self-proclaimed “Energizer Bunny” says she really never understood why her routine was such a big deal. “[The teachers] were like, ‘Are they allowed to dance like that?’ I’m thinking to myself, ‘Yeah, we can dance like this,’ ” the reality starlet recalls. “It’s allowed. I’m not showing any boob or anything, it’s OK — God, open your windows,” she laughs at the memory. “There’s a lot out there.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Deena Cortese and Patrick Stump — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV. If you thought Wednesday night’s “American Idol” was harsh, the final night of Hollywood Week really brought down the hammer. Unlike the previous night, when the show dithered away with group dynamics, Thursday night’s (February 17) show jumped right into it, presenting what host Ryan Seacrest promised was one of the most talented group of Hollywood finalists ever assembled. And, for once, he wasn’t just blowing smoke, as some of season 10’s standout singers brought it and punched their ticket to next week’s Vegas round. Haley Reinhart, 20, barely made it through the previous round after forgetting her lyrics, but the 20-year-old Wheeling, Illinois, student was back on track Thursday night, growling out a gritty and bombastic “God Bless the Child.” Though we’d barely met Tennessee’s 24-year old Ashton Jones before — she was in Ashley Sullivan’s group the night before — she killed it with a soulful “Idol” favorite “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going.” Confident 15-year-old Thia Megia got no shine Wednesday, but when she got back in the spotlight, she did it again, showing some supple vocal beauty with a cool “What a Wonderful World.” The girls definitely brought it, so it was up to the boys to prove they had it too. One of the rising stars, karaoke host Clint Jun Gamboa, peeled the paint off the walls with his dynamic cover of Ray Charles’ “Georgia,” a feat almost equaled on the same tune by sultry 22-year-old Tennessee office manager Kendra Chantelle, who traded bombast for buttery softness. Chris Medina went out of the box with an acoustic ramble through Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative,” which was also picked by onetime groupmate Carson Higgins. The blond beach bum played it straight with the band, doing a high-energy, slightly spastic soul shout, while Medina did a Dave Matthews-like folk strum take that didn’t go over as well. Able to play their instruments for the first time, a number of the contestants took the opportunity, including Los Angeles student Julie Zorrilla, getting jazzy at the keyboard on Sara Bareilles’ “Love Song.” Murfreesboro, Tennessee, emo kid Colton Dixon, who came on strong during group night, emoted his way through a dramatic version of Daughtry’s “What About Now,” while 16-year-old Florida student Brett Loewenstern strapped on his acoustic for a fragile stroll through Brandi Carlile’s “The Story.” Melodica-blowing soul man Casey Abrams keeps surprising, and he continued his streak by being the first “Idol” contestant to bust out a stand-up bass for a finger-snapping jazzbo dig at Ray Charles’ “Georgia on my Mind” that earned a standing ovation. Already without her ex-boyfriend by her side, Chelsee Oaks seemed distraught when former groupmate Jacqueline Dunford was forced to bow out of the competition due to illness. The Nashville waitress pulled it together and dug down deep for an emotional “Because of You” by Kelly Clarkson, but her nerves were evident. After producers dropped the age limit to 15, a number of teens have proven their worth, none more than 15-year-old Lauren Alaina, whose big personality and charming smile have worked their magic on the judges. The savvy high-schooler kept in judge Steven Tyler’s good graces by reprising her cover of his band’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” putting a cocktail-lounge spin on the bombastic ballad, complete with a piled-on-top curly hairstyle. We just met Jacob Lusk the night before, and the Bobby McFerrin-like master of vocal tics and tricks did his thing again with a whisper-to-a-scream gospel throwdown on “God Bless the Child.” It’s been awhile since we saw real-life cowboy John Wayne Schulz , but his strummy aw-shucks cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” mesmerized the crowd and inspired judge Jennifer Lopez to harmonize along. Is Marion Cotillard Joining ‘The Dark Knight Rises’?

The French press reports that the Oscar-winning actress has accepted a role in director Christopher Nolan’s next “Batman” movie. By Eric Ditzian Marion Cotillard Photo: Todd Williamson/ Getty Images Are Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” dreams still haunting him as he turns his focus to casting “The Dark Knight Rises” ? Following the signing of Tom Hardy to play the villain Bane in the next installment of the “Batman” franchise and news that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in talks to join the production, new reports suggest a third star of Nolan’s dream-world thriller could well land in Gotham City, too. According to stories originating in the French press, Marion Cotillard is set to join “Dark Knight Rises.” People magazine, citing unnamed sources, contends that the Oscar-winning actress, who is pregnant and expecting a baby in the spring with French actor/director Guillaume Canet, signed on to the film on Saturday in Paris. A source close to Cotillard, meanwhile, told MTV News that “there’s nothing to the report.” MTV News’ request for comment to Warner Bros. was not returned as of press time. There has long been talk that “The Dark Knight Rises” would rope in two central female characters. Anne Hathaway has already hopped aboard the production to play Selina Kyle, the well-known character in comics lore who is the alter-ego of Catwoman. Previous reports about actresses in contention for the film did not mention Cotillard; the names included Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Jessica Biel, Kate Mara and Charlotte Riley . The rumored second female role has not yet been filled, unless the Cotillard reports prove true. According to People ‘s sources, the French-born actress will begin shooting in London in mid-June — after the birth of her child — before traveling to Pittsburgh and Los Angeles this summer for further filming. Widely expected to be Nolan’s third and final “Batman” flick, “The Dark Knight Rises” is expected to begin production in the spring with an eye on a July 20, 2012, release date. In a new, exclusive clip from his 3-D film, “Never Say Never,” out this weekend, fans get an inside look at the men and women who help Bieber stay on schedule and stay sane during those grueling days on the road. “You know I want people to see me in my everyday life,” Bieber says in the clip. Fans then get to meet Ryan Good, Bieber’s stylist. “Ryan’s like the coolest older brother ever. When Justin’s down, I’m like, ‘Ryan go make him laugh,’ and Justin’s cracking up,” Allison Kaye, the tour’s general manager, explained of Bieber’s sidekick. So what is Kaye like? “Allison’s the stern one,” Good explains. “She’s the one that handles business.” Other members of Bieber’s team include Carin, his “big sister” figure who assists Ryan with wardrobe; Dan Kanter, his musical director; Mama Jan, his vocal coach; and Kenny: “[He] is technically Justin’s security guard, but his everything,” Kaye explains. “It’s an uncle/nephew relationship,” Kenny adds in the clip. “In my phone, I have him programmed as ‘nephew.’ ” His manager, Scooter Braun, also appears in the sneak peek. He explains that his job is more far-reaching than just a manager. “Ninety percent of my job is helping him become a good man. It’s a family, so we’re supporting each other,” he said. “There’s so many people out there who think he’s gonna be a teen sensation and he’s going to go away. Just like a basketball player, life twists and turns. Melvin Jones is not only a basketball star, but also a top student at Portland State University — and all because his high school coach, Kasey Poirrier, thinks of him as a little brother. Kasey’s mom, Jennifer Annable, was five months pregnant when she moved to Seattle with 50 bucks in her pocket. She worked long hours, struggling to become a teacher. Eventually she became director of a school for children with special needs, but her marriage ended in divorce before she could give Kasey that little brother. One night Kasey asked his mom: “How would you feel about Melvin coming to stay with us?” Melvin Jones had just been shoved out of two other high schools and had entered Kasey’s with zero credits. At age 16, he was drifting on the streets of Seattle. “Every time I took him home, I was taking him somewhere else,” Kasey recalled. “We drove around to four or five different places and there were no adults.” Melvin’s mom was dying of AIDS. “He was loved, but not parented,” is how Jennifer put it. So she made up a room for him. Why would a single mom take on such a challenge? Jennifer’s father grew up in foster care; her mother in an orphanage. Jennifer had opened her home to kids before: Five, in fact, during Kasey’s childhood. “My dream was always to run an orphanage,” she explained. “When I was a little girl, I had a hundred dolls and I used to line them up on the back porch. Those were my kids.” Her mom was almost adopted three times, but each time, the couple sent her back. “To think that somebody would take in a child, then give them back,” Jennifer said. She simply wanted to help children like her mom. Still, she recalled: “Taking in Melvin was one of the hardest things I ever did in the beginning.” He did not trust her. He stashed the groceries she bought him under his bed, afraid some one would steal them. Melvin resisted Jennifer’s every attempt to become his new mother. “I did not like it at all,” Melvin said. “I fought it.” Jennifer told Melvin: “ ‘I’m not trying to take anyone’s place, but you need a mom!’ ” And she had love enough to help another child. Still, Melvin’s little sister, Marika, was not happy. “Why you wanna go move in with her? She’s not family.” “He was with me,” big sister Lasheka Bousley insisted. “I was trying to figure out why he’d want to go with someone else other than me.” Melvin simply wanted someone to show him how to study. “Jennifer was like a gnat, like you slappin’ at a gnat and it just won’t go away.”

For Discussion: Has The Economy Affected Your Child Support Payments?

Child support is, and probably always will be, a hot topic in the black community. In these times of economic hardship people are having a hard enough time supporting themselves much less a child or children, but is the economy an excuse for being light on the payments? Total funds collected for U.S. child-support programs failed to increase during fiscal year 2009 for the first time since Congress created an enforcement arm for such collections in 1975, according to a study released this week by the Government Accountability Office. Overall collections declined by 2.1 percent from the previous fiscal year, including the first-ever drop in collections automatically withheld from wages, long the primary source of child-support payments. The enforcement program, administered at the state level and overseen by the federal Department of Health and Human Services, collected about $26 billion in child support payments during fiscal 2009 on behalf of some 17 million children, almost one-quarter of the nation’s kids. The average amount of child support collected per case dropped 3 percent to $1,670, the first decline since 1994. The amount of child-support funding collected from unemployment checks, however, nearly tripled during fiscal 2009. It’s a measure of the depths of the recession, but also of how much deeper it could have been, analysts say, without government efforts to mitigate the economic crisis. “I think it’s clear that the decline in collections isn’t due to a failing on the part of child-support enforcement administrators, but due to the economy,” said Elizabeth Lower-Basch, a senior policy analyst at the Center for Law and Social Policy, an advocacy group for lower-income Americans. “It would have been a bigger drop without the extended unemployment insurance benefits, which helped many noncustodial parents meet their obligations.” Has the economy affected you or your child’s parents’ ability to make sufficient payments? Dayyumm… Ain’t That B*tch!!!: Gilbert Arenas Hit With Child Support Papers While At Work

Laura Govan checking Gilbert Arenas assets all the way to the bank!!! How in the world do you get served during the NBA game??? Did they have to buy a ticket to the game in order to do this??? A process server stopped Arenas as he walked off the court Thursday night against the Miami Heat. The court documents, obtained by The Associated Press, were a California petition filed by Laura Mendoza Govan. She identifies herself as his ex-girlfriend in the documents. The petition seeks custody and child support for three children that Govan says Arenas fathered and has since “financially cut off.” She is also seeking support for another unborn child. After being outed on his lavish spending, Gilbert Arenas called into a radio show to dispute the lies: People facing expensive court battles usually keep quiet, but the former Wizard was awfully chatty in his call into our colleague Mike Wise’s 106.7 FM radio show. It’s all lies, Arenas claimed — except the bit about what Govan said he spends on his legendary shark tank. Yes, it’s really five grand a month: “I’d rather spend $5,000 on my fish than have a drinking problem.” The sharks, he claimed, have died, because of “somebody throwing pennies in the fish tank.” No names. Otherwise, he accused Govan of overhyping his finances. “If you look back at the last couple breakups of any NBA athlete… it’s a format they all go by to get more child support money… This is not ‘Basketball Wives.’… These girls got to stop living a fantasy world.” As for him: “You make bad choices as an adult, and we pick the wrong woman sometime.” Ouch. Govan did not reply by press time. These two are really something else. What we don’t understand is… if this fool kept putting you out every other weekend, why in the hell did you have 4 babies by him??? Source
