Elin Woods Plans Solo Trip to China

Tiger Woods wife is leaving him … on a solo trip to China. Elin Nordegren Woods is planning an extended trip to the Far East this summer, and has not decided if she is bringing the couple’s two children with her. One person she’s not considering bringing is Tiger, as the couple continues to live separately and is not on speaking terms . She is clearly moving on. Forging her own path, Elin recently went back to school, enrolling in Rollins College where she is taking a course several nights a week. As for Tiger? “Tiger goes out with friends to his favorite places in Orlando,” one source close to the golfer told Radar Online. “He’s getting on with his own life too.” He’s also been on the prowl with an Elin look-alike . Elin Woods will be waltzing into the sunset soon . The upcoming trip to China continues Elin’s pattern of staying away from Tiger. In recent months she has traveled to Sweden with their children, too. She’s said to be considering a permanent move to Sweden once her divorce from Tiger is finalized. “She’s become fully independent,” the source said. ”She’s doing all she can to build her own life.” Tiger and Elin Woods have both hired divorce lawyers but have not filed papers – reportedly because they want to hammer out the terms out first. Both are committed to their children, but it’s become increasingly clear that their relationship is over, it’s just a matter of when it becomes official. So far, reports suggest the Tiger Woods divorce drama may come down to confidentiality as much as money. Tiger wants Elin’s full legal silence.

Quantum Teleportation over 10 miles

Scientists in China have broken the record for quantum teleportation, achieving a distance of about 10 miles, according to a new study in Nature Photonics. That's a giant leap from previous achievements. The feat brings us closer to communicating information without needing a traditional signal transmission, the researchers note. Although it's called teleportation, no matter is really moved. Rather, the quantum state of one object is transferred to another object. It works by entangling two objects, like photons or ions. The first teleportation experiments involved beams of light. Once the objects are entangled, they're connected by an invisible wave, like a thread or umbilical cord. That means when something is done to one object, it immediately happens to the other object, too. Einstein called this “spooky action at a distance.” Until now, this has only been achieved with particles that are at most a couple hundred feet apart. And those distances have been accomplished with fiber channels, which help preserve the photons' state. In the latest experiment, researchers entangled two photons and zapped the higher-energy one through a special 10-mile-long free-space tunnel, instead of a fiber one. The distant photon was still able to respond to the changes in state of the photon left behind, an unprecedented achievement. It worked because the team “maximally entangled” the photons, using spatial and polarization modes, according to Ars Technica. About 89 percent of the information was maintained, also an improvement over previous experiments. The work was done at the Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale and the Department of Modern Physics, University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei. Though a 10-mile teleportation is impressive, there's still a long way to go before information can safely be sent this way. Photons are good at transmitting information, but ions are better at allowing manipulation, which would be necessary for encryption, Ars Technica notes. added by: diode

North Korea Vows ‘Unprecedented Nuclear Strikes’ In Latest Threat

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korea's military warned South Korea and the United States on Friday of “unprecedented nuclear strikes” over a report the two countries plan to prepare for possible instability in the totalitarian country. The North routinely issues such warnings and officials in Seoul and Washington react calmly. Diplomats in South Korea and the U.S. instead have repeatedly called on Pyongyang to return to international negotiations aimed at ending its nuclear programs. “Those who seek to bring down the system in the (North), whether they play a main role or a passive role, will fall victim to the unprecedented nuclear strikes of the invincible army,” North Korea's military said in comments carried by the official Korean Central News Agency. The North, believed have enough weaponized plutonium for at least half a dozen atomic bombs, conducted its second atomic test last year, drawing tighter U.N. sanctions. Experts from South Korea, the U.S. and China will meet in China next month to share information on North Korea, assess possible contingencies in the country, and consider ways to cooperate in case of an emergency situation, South Korea's Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported earlier this month, citing unidentified sources in Seoul and Beijing. The experts will also hold follow-up meetings in Seoul in June and in Honolulu in July, it said. The North Korean statement Friday specifically referred to the March 19 newspaper report. A spokeswoman said the South Korean Defense Ministry had no information. South Korean media have reported that Seoul has drawn up a military operations plan with the United States to cope with possible emergencies in the North. The North says the U.S. plots to topple its regime, a claim Washington has consistently denied. Last month, the North also threatened a “powerful – even nuclear – attack,” if the U.S. and South Korea went ahead with annual military drills. There was no military provocation from North Korea during the exercises. China, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the U.S. have been trying to persuade North Korea to give up its nuclear weapons in six party talks. The North quit the negotiations last year. The fate of the North's nuclear weapons has taken on added urgency since late 2008 as concerns over the health of leader Kim Jong Il have intensified. Kim, who suffered an apparent stroke in 2008, may die within three years, South Korean media have reported. His death is thought to have the potential to trigger instability and a power struggle in the North. http://news.yahoo.com/video/world-15749633/s-korea-blames-north-for-sunken-ship-… added by: onemalefla

What is the best way to convince North Korea to give up its nuclear program?

As North Korean leader Kim Jong Il took a quick trip to visit China, many wondered if the People's Republic would be successful in persuading him back to the negotiating table over his nuclear program. It's been a long and relatively unfruitful process, with every step forward marked by a corresponding step back. If the Obama Administration or the United Nations opens up negotiations again, how should they approach it? More sanctions? More aid? A Telegraph story about Mr. Kim's trip: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/northkorea/7689440/Kim-Jong-il-co… added by: afitzgerald
