Chloe Moretz Makes A Bloody Good Carrie In First Look At Remake Of Classic Horror Film

It’s time to ruin prom for a whole new generation of teenagers!   EW.com has posted an exclusive photo  of a blood-soaked Chloe Moretz f rom Boys Don’t Cry director Kimberly Peirce’s remake of   Carrie . Moretz gave me a serious case of deja vu when I saw the photo of her as the title character of Stephen King’s classic 1974 horror novel about an alienated teen with telekinetic powers and a seriously wacko mother. Sissy Spacek,  who played the original Carrie White was fantastic in the role, but she was also in her mid 20s at the time. At 15, Moretz seems more age-appropriate to play the role of a high schooler. Julianne Moore plays Carrie’s mom in a role that Piper Laurie played in the original film.. EW reports that Moore intends for her portrayal to retain some humanity. “This woman has clearly had a psychotic break, perhaps several,” Moore tells the publication. “But what’s sad about it for me is that she’s clearly sick and here’s this poor child in the thrall of this person who is seriously ill.” Peirce is reportedly modernizing the story for her remake, which will be released in March 2013, so it’s unclear whether Moretz comes to be bathed in blood for the same reasons that Spacek did: a cruel high-school prank that results in Carrie unleashing her telekinetic powers and ensuring that there will be no one in her class left alive to sign her year book.  The good news: she also destroyed the gym. Moretz told EW that she was under some pressure while shooting the scene: ”We only have, like, four chances to get it right,” she said. “Because that stuff stains your hair.” Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter. GALLERY: Guess Who Out-Weirded Johnny Depp and Co. at the Dark Shadows Premiere?

Between Johnny Depp , Tim Burton , and the reliably bizarro fashion statements of Helena Bonham Carter , the Dark Shadows premiere promised a veritable feast of eccentricities. But guess what? The best and weirdest photo ops from last night’s to-do came not from the aforementioned mavens of macabre (granted, HBC was M.I.A.), but from the bizarre antics of an unlikely duo whose red carpet shenanigans made Burton and his cast of lovable weirdos look downright… mundane. Unexpected smooches, yoga poses, the good ol’ bunny ears photo bomb — if it was slightly awkward or distracting, premiere guests Cloris Leachman and Steven Tyler were involved. Who knew they’d make such an electrifying couple? To quote the film’s tagline, “Strange is relative.” Indeed . But don’t take my word for it. Browse Movieline’s gallery from the Dark Shadows premiere to see Depp, Burton, co-stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, and composer Danny Elfman smile for the photogs as Hurricane ClorVen (Stevris? Leachler?) steals the spotlight. Even Alice Cooper didn’t seem to know what to make of it, and that’s saying something. Click for images from the Dark Shadows premiere.

Carrie Stage Musical Dies Again

The off-Broadway musical adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie may have outlasted its 1988 stage predecessor by four times the stage run, but it died nonetheless last weekend — two weeks early! The NYT has the post-mortem: “Several theater producers contacted recently said that Carrie , no matter how well acted and sung, presented far more than the usual share of difficulties, the most insurmountable being that nearly every character is dead at the end….Several reviewers complained about certain songs and a one-note blandness in the high school scenes, but the sharpest criticism was that Carrie had been de-camped to the point of dullness.” Chloe Moretz , you’re our last hope! VIDEO: Sean Penn Blasts Tea Party as ‘Get the N-Word Out of the White House’ Party

Love Sean Penn or loathe him, you have to at least admire any modern movie star harboring any degree of spontaneity or candor in an otherwise hypersensitive, overcalculated celebrity culture. (To say nothing of having the distinction of having been in both a Terrence Malick film and Scarlett Johansson’s pants at the same time; the man is nothing if not a tireless striver for the American Dream.) Penn’s latest flare-up occurred in the middle of an interview with CNN’ s Piers Morgan, to whom the two-time Oscar winner ranted about the prominence of the Tea Party — or, in Penn’s delectable neologic parlance, the “Get the N-Word Out of the White House” Party.
