By Ymir’s Icy Beard! New Thor Trailer Puts The Hammer Down

After awhile, there are only so many action movies about cops, spies or puddle-faced Shia LeBeouf one can take. A little variety is needed! So that’s why I’m glad that Thor is here. Isn’t it time we had a big, rollicking action movie starring a pantheon of Norse gods? Will Mark Ruffalo Play The Hulk In ‘The Avengers’?

Actor is reportedly ‘in late-stage discussions’ to take over Edward Norton’s role in the comic book supergroup. By Kara Warner Mark Ruffalo Photo: Mike Coppola/ FilmMagic Hot on the heels of Marvel’s big announcement Monday that Edward Norton would not be reprising the role of Bruce Banner in “The Avengers” comes a report that studio head Kevin Feige and company have tapped Mark Ruffalo to take over the role. According to Deadline Hollywood Daily , Ruffalo is “now in late-stage discussions between Marvel and his brand-new agency United Talent to play this key member of the Avengers ensemble.” Regarding the ensemble in question, which includes Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/ Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Feige’s statement seemed to hint that the production wanted more of a team player: ” ‘The Avengers’ demands players who thrive working as part of an ensemble. … We are looking to announce a name actor who fulfills these requirements and is passionate about the iconic role in the coming weeks.” Whether Norton fit the bill is up for debate, but Ruffalo has often appeared in films as part of an ensemble or in various scene-stealing supporting roles (he was also an MTV Movie Awards nominee with “13 Going on 30” co-star Jennifer Garner for Best Musical Performance in 2005) and has a reputation within the industry for being very well-liked among his peers. When MTV News spoke with Ruffalo about the possibility of his taking on a comic book character or movie, the actor revealed he had been in talks to play Harvey Dent in “The Dark Knight,” calling it the “Godfather” of comic book movies. “[It] raises the bar on anything,” he said of “The Dark Knight.” “Nothing can touch it in that genre. It’s great filmmaking.” Ruffalo added that he wasn’t sure if tights or superhero garb were in his future, but that he’s open to the opportunity. “I don’t know if I’ll ever end up in that world,” Ruffalo told MTV News. “But I’d love to work with Christopher Nolan. He’s one of those directors you want to work with. He’s a great director.” What do you think of Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner? Let us know in the comments!

Cabin in the Woods to Suffer 2nd Delay?

Will we ever get to see the Joss Whedon-produced, Drew Goddard-directed horror flick The Cabin in the Woods ? A while back, it was bumped all the way to January to undergo a 3D post-conversion, and now it may be lost in the MGM mess and delayed yet again. At this rate, star Chris Hemsworth will probably be seen in Thor before we ever get a taste of this tiny sleeper. Hell, Whedon may have directed him in The Avengers by then. [ THR via The Playlist ]

By Kara Warner Chris Hemsworth Photo: Entertainment Tonight Hot on the heels of the release of the first official photo (and alleged concept art) from “Thor” comes a video report straight from the Santa Fe, New Mexico, set, courtesy of “Entertainment Tonight.” The clip features a charming exchange between two of the film’s stars, Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Natalie Portman (Jane Foster) : The duo discuss their chemistry and Hemsworth’s impressive build. Portman also expresses delight upon discovering that Hemsworth was on Australia’s version of “Dancing with the Stars.” The topic of Hemsworth’s toughness and physique are played up the video, along with a few brief action scenes. “He’s a god,” Portman says of her co-star, even alluding to his healthy, “big appetite.” Later, Portman pokes fun at herself with a fake teaser: “Chris and that little midget girl, starring in Thor!” Director Kenneth Branagh praised Hemsworth’s dedication to the role, saying the actor worked himself into peak condition. “He took seriously the challenge that had to be taken on by whoever was going to play Thor, to find this combination we wanted of a sort of Herculean strength, and gosh, he’s strong,” Branagh said. “We’ve had him doing all sorts of physical feats on it. Some of it’s practical — lifting people up, lifting two people up, and doing it for a long time over the course of a day. I sort of said, ‘Oh, you’ve got to get your shirt off. Do you mind?’ And he said, ‘Do I mind? I spent six months getting into shape for this! No, I don’t mind!’ ” “It’s pretty exciting,” Hemsworth says in the clip when asked about stepping into the boots of the storied God of Thunder. “The whole thing is surreal.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Thor.” For breaking comic book movie news, columns and more — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
