‘Dark Knight Rises’ Set Pics Show Bane, Batman In Action

Photos of Marion Cotillard hint that her character is more than just a ‘board member.’ By Aubrey Sitterson Christian Bale and Tom Hardy film “The Dark Knight Rises” on July 31, 2011 Photo: Jared Wickerham/ Getty Images While we’ve had our fair share of superhero flicks in 2011, next year is when the big boys are coming out to play, with Joss Whedon’s “Avengers” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” hitting theaters in the summer of 2012. After the credits of “Captain America: The First Avenger,” fans got an official sneak peek at “The Avengers,” and now we have our first clear look at “The Dark Knight Rises” (following an obscure first trailer) , via a series of photos from the set in Pittsburgh over the weekend. While seeing Christian Bale all suited up and ready for action isn’t quite as exciting as it was the first or second time around, he’s looking as hard and utterly badass as ever. Though the suit looks a little different in the clear white light of day opposed to Nolan’s stylized cinematography, it’s practically the same as the one used in “The Dark Knight.” The real attraction in these photos, however, is the guy Batman’s fighting: Tom Hardy’s Bane . When Hardy was first cast in the role, there were some mixed feelings in the fan community. While he’s a fantastic actor and proved that he can be terrifyingly menacing in “Bronson,” even when the British thespian’s all muscled up, he doesn’t exactly resemble a humongous Latino man. And in the previously released photo of Bane , we only saw his hulking form from behind. Those concerns should be put to rest with these photos, however, because while Bale’s Batman clearly has the height advantage on Hardy’s Bane , there’s also a fantastic shot of the shorter, stockier actor overpowering the Dark Knight himself as snow flurries around them. We’re a little disappointed that the character is lacking Bane’s singlet and lucha mask, but the more military-influenced attire fits perfectly into Nolan’s Batman universe. The photos also give us a clear look at Marion Cotillard’s Miranda Tate . While she’s been described as a “Wayne Enterprises board member,” it looks like her character will also see some action, prowling the streets with heavily armed men and even climbing on top of the “Tumbler” Batmobile. Batman’s ride has received a makeover , eschewing the classic black for a paintjob that looks a lot like desert camouflage, which raises questions about how it will fit into the fake snow-covered landscape of Gotham City (or Pittsburgh, for that matter). Take a look at the photos yourself and make sure to tell us about anything significant we might have missed in the comments below! Nolan said that they chose Pittsburgh because “it is a very beautiful city on a very impressive scale and yet one which has a community that hasn’t lost its human scale.” So, not because of the Wiz Khalifa song ” Black and Yellow “? Go figure. Filming begins tomorrow. Principal photography started in May. [ Post-Gazette ]

Will Artie Lange Return to Howard Stern Show?

Recovering comedian Artie Lange said he would give anything to get his job back on the Howard Stern Show. He has not, however, asked Howard about it. Lange left the show in early 2010 after a sudden hospitalization. He later went to rehab to get his alcoholism under control, but is reportedly better now. Stern discussed Artie this morning, saying Lange’s comments “stirred up a whole bunch of conversation that I don’t even know how to begin to address.” Asked if Artie ever personally approached Howard to ask for his job back, Howard replied, “No, but I think he would if he could get a hold of me.” As for Artie’s possible return to radio with a new show , Howard said, “Of course I support it. I think it would be great. I’d like to listen to Artie.” Howard, whose show Lange was a fixture on for years, added, “I’m glad to hear he’s feeling better … I’m pulling for him. I hope he does okay.”

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Poster: First Look!

Debris rains down what appear to be crumbling Gotham City buildings in first poster from Christopher Nolan’s Batman threequel. By Eric Ditzian “The Dark Knight Rises” teaser poster Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures In December 2009, a teaser poster for Christopher Nolan’s “Inception” hit the Web. It featured a row of skyscrapers looming above disastrous floodwaters and the promise that the sci-fi flick was the brainchild of “the director of ‘The Dark Knight.’ ” That image, it seems, became something of an inspiration for the brand-new teaser poster for Nolan’s third “Batman” film, “The Dark Knight Rises.” The new poster focuses on another collection of buildings, presumably in Bruce Wayne’s hometown, Gotham City. And once again, there is an ominous air of destruction in the urban environment: The buildings appear to be crumbling, debris raining downward — a stark visual contrast to the film title’s single tweak since the previous installment: the addition of the word “rises.” None of this is to suggest the “Dark Knight Rises” poster is some “Inception” knock-off; Nolan’s beloved “Batman” films hardly need to draft off his Oscar-nominated 2010 dream-heist flick. There are, of course, as many differences as there are similarities between the two. First and foremost, in the “Dark Knight Rises” poster, the tops of the buildings outline the unmistakable form of Batman’s symbol. And whereas Leonardo DiCaprio is front and center in the “Inception” poster (and up to his knees in flood waters), Christian Bale as Batman or Bruce Wayne is nowhere to be seen in the new poster. For now, the only person we’ve officially seen in character is Tom Hardy as Bane . In May, a photo of Bane — shot from behind, a menacing mask over his head — popped up online after Warner Bros. launched a viral marketing campaign. The poster debut comes just days before we’re reportedly set to get our first glimpse of the “Dark Knight Rises” teaser trailer, which is supposed to debut in front of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” when it opens on Friday. With a reported running time of one minute and 33 seconds, hopefully, there will be peeks not only at Bane in motion, but Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle (and possibly in full Catwoman gear). But who knows? Production only kicked off in May, so it’s anybody’s guess how much footage Nolan will deliver in the trailer. If the first “Inception” trailer is any indication, we’ll peep a lot of footage, but likely remain clueless as to what the whole freaking thing is about. And that’s just how we like it. The pleasantly crude Hall Pass reminds us of what’s been missing from movies: Those squirm-inducing moments in comedy that produce enough discomfort that at points what we’re watching is half a heartbeat away from a horror film.
