U2 Postpone 360 Tour As Bono Recovers From Back Surgery

By Gil Kaufman U2’s Bono Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage The good news is that after Friday’s successful emergency back surgery, U2 singer Bono was discharged from Ludwig Maximilians-University Hospital in Munich on Monday. The bad news is that in order to recover fully, the 50-year-old singer (born Paul Hewson) is under doctor’s orders to start a rehabilitation and recuperation program that will keep him sidelined for at least eight weeks, forcing the postponement of the band’s 16 North American 360 Tour dates until 2011. According to a statement from tour producer Live Nation, the concerts, which were to kick off in Salt Lake City on June 3 and run through a July 19 show at New Jersey’s Meadowlands Stadium, have been pushed to an unspecified date next year. “Bono suffered severe compression of the sciatic nerve,” explained Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt, one of the singer’s doctors. “On review of his MRI scan, I realized there was a serious tear in the ligament and a herniated disc, and that conservative treatment would not suffice. I recommended Bono have emergency spine surgery.” The surgeon who performed the procedure, Professor Joerg Christian Tonn added, “Bono was referred to me by Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt late last week with a sudden onset disease. He was already in severe pain with partial paralysis in the lower leg. The ligament surrounding the disc had an 8mm tear and during surgery we discovered fragments of the disc had traveled into the spinal canal.

Nikki Haley, GOP candidate for governor, is yet another Christian conservative politician from South Carolina embroiled in a steamy sex scandal. Haley denies the rumors, yet her partner in crime, political blogger and former aide to Gov. Mark Sanford, Will Folks, confirms the rumor: Folks and Haley had a sexual relationship while Haley was married to her current husband. Bret Easton Ellis on American Psycho, Christian Bale, and His Problem with Women Directors

Bret Easton Ellis has written six books, and all six have been optioned by Hollywood. Of those six, four were made into movies, and they run the gamut from iconic to underseen, acclaimed to lambasted. Each day this week, Ellis will tackle a different adaptation of his books for Movieline, giving his take on what worked, what didn’t, and what went on behind the scenes. American Psycho is by far the most controversial work that Bret Easton Ellis has written, and yet when it comes to the adaptations of his novels, Mary Harron’s 2000 film is the most critically acclaimed and well-regarded. It went through a bumpy production process that attracted directors like Oliver Stone and David Cronenberg and actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp, but the final result eventually became a calling card for both Harron and its star, Christian Bale, and it’s only grown in public esteem since its release.

Miss Michigan Rima Fakih Wins 2010 Miss USA Pageant

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Lebanese immigrant Rima Fakih was crowned Miss USA on Sunday night, but all she could think about was her next meal. Asked how she felt after winning the 59th annual competition, the 24-year-old Arab-American from Dearborn, Mich. joked: “Ask me after I’ve had a pizza.” Fakih said her family celebrates both Muslim and Christian faiths. She won the title despite nearly stumbling in her evening gown. read more

Arab-American from Michigan crowned 2010 Miss USA

LAS VEGAS – A 24-year-old Arab American from Michigan beat out 50 other women to take the 2010 Miss USA title Sunday night, despite nearly stumbling in her evening gown. Rima Fakih of Dearborn, Mich., won the pageant at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip after strutting confidently in an orange and gold bikini, wearing a strapless white gown that resembled a wedding dress and saying health insurance should cover birth control pills. When asked how she felt about winning the crown, she said, “Ask me after I've had a pizza.” Fakih, a Lebanese immigrant, told pageant organizers her family celebrates both Muslim and Christian faiths. She moved to the United States as a baby and was raised in New York, where she attended a Catholic school. Her family moved to Michigan in 2003. Pageant officials said historical pageant records were not detailed enough to show whether Fakih was the first Arab American, Muslim or immigrant to win the Miss USA title. Comedy Group Parodies Stephen Baldwin’s Plea for Money

Filed under: Humor , Videos , Movies , Television Last week, failed actor turned fundamentalist Christian Stephen Baldwin launched a YouTube plea for people to send him money in order to show those pinko Hollywood fat cats that a righteous man can’t be beaten down. Comparing Stephen to the long-suffering Biblical figure known as Job , a man who suffered unimaginable diseases and the loss of everything he knew and loved, the video made it difficult for bloggers to figure out if it was real or some kind of bizarre viral marketing for South Park or whatever. Gary Gray-directed video for “Super High.” The clip plays off the film “Easy Rider” and finds the Miami native scooping up sexy Stacey Dash like ice cream from Cold Stone. Ross woos her from her biker beau. During some downtime on the set, Ross explained that he’s trying to keep a lot of the ins and outs of his June 29 LP Teflon Don on lock until it drops, but the Bawse did disclose more about his collaboration with Jay-Z. “The majority of the details of the album I’ve been trying to keep under wraps so the fans can savor the music that much more,” Ross said. “I most definitely have confirmed Jay-Z being on the album. [The song] is like an atomic bomb. I’m just waiting to push the button. Shout-out to Roc Nation. Shout-out to Kanye West.” Ross said he and Jay recorded the song in Sin City as Jigga’s tour was coming to a close. “The funny thing is the way the record was done,” Ross said. “I followed him to a few Blueprint 3 Tour dates. I was chillin’ in the back, smoked out. As soon as he gets offstage, we was chillin’, vibing. His last date, which was in Vegas, he killed the show. We left the show, went to Tao for the afterparty. It was 30 bottles of Ace of Spades [champagne]. He left there, went and killed the craps table, the poker table. Then we got in the studio, and he laced me. It was the most phenomenal verse. “It’s not ‘Maybach Music 3,’ ” Ross revealed. “You could kill the rumors. This is something totally unexpected, and we talking that talk. I’m just excited, man. Austrian President Wins Second Term

The Austrian President, Heinz Fischer, has won his second six-year term in office in an overwhelming electoral victory. The official results show that the veteran Social Democrat politician has earned almost 79 percent of votes cast for largely ceremonial post. The controversial opponent Barbara Rosenkranz only got 15 percent of the vote and the 5.44 percent went to Rudolf Gehring of the small Christian Party. The results were announced Sunday evening by interior minister Maria Fekter. Speaking on live television, Mr. Fischer said: “I am extremely happy and thank the Austrian population for having so much confidence in me.” However, Mrs. Rosenkranz claimed that she and her family were victims of a “witch-count”. She also told her supporters that it wasn’t a fair election campaign. She was not expected to win the election. Many Austrians were shocked at her nomination because in the past, she has criticized the anti-Nazi laws of Austria by saying they go against the freedom of speech.
