Diane Kruger Denies Possible ‘Superman’ Casting

‘They’re all false rumors,’ actress says of reports she’s in the running to appear in the upcoming superhero reboot. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Kara Warner Diane Kruger Photo: Universal Pictures Now that British star Henry Cavill has been officially tapped to play Superman , rumors have been swirling about how the rest of the flick’s cast will shape up. Recently, industry insiders mused that three starlets are up for the female lead — which is not Clark Kent’s well-known main squeeze Lois Lane — in the Zack Snyder-helmed project: “Sex and the City 2” actress Alice Eve, Rosamund Pike from “An Education” and Diane Kruger from the “National Treasure” series. However, when MTV News sat down with Kruger on Saturday (February 5), the German-born actress — who is currently promoting the film “Unknown” — flatly denied that she’s in the running for the role. “They’re all false rumors,” the “Inglourious Basterds” star said. “I don’t know who launched them but it’s not true.” Kruger emphatically batted away reports that she has been in talks or auditioning, saying, “No. None.” Even though Kruger is officially out of the leading-lady race, speculation about who will star opposite Cavill’s Superman — among other questions — still remains. In addition to Pike and Eve, A-listers like Kristen Stewart, Jessica Biel, Natalie Portman and Rachel McAdams have been among the names to pass in and out of the “Superman” rumor mill. With casting for female lead still up in the air, the identity of the character has also not been revealed. However, a Lane-free flick might be a hint that the storyline will propel the Man of Steel outside of the fictional urban locale of Metropolis. Production on “Superman” is slated to kick off this summer. Fans can expect the superhero adventure to arrive in theaters in December 2012. Meet Lamar Moore. Lamar thought it was a good idea to…. kill cops and keep 13-year-old sex slaves: Police said Thursday that they are investigating claims that Lamar Moore, who wounded four officers in a gun attack at a Detroit police precinct before being fatally shot, had abducted a 13-year-old girl and held her captive for days as a sex slave. Detroit Sgt. Eren Stephens confirmed police are investigating allegations that Lamar Moore had kept the girl chained to a toilet at a home on the city’s northwest side. Stephens said earlier in the week that Moore was being investigated in connection with a sexual attack on a minor. According to CBS affiliate WWJ, officers say the 13-year old was a runaway kept as Moore’s sex slave. Two days after the Sunday shooting, Moore’s home was destroyed in a fire that authorities say was set deliberately. Stephens didn’t specify whether his home was the one where the teen claimed to have been held captive. Stephanie Freeman, Moore’s fiancee, denied he had been involved in an abduction and sexual assault. Detroit police have declined to speculate on Moore’s motive in the shooting at the 6th Precinct, reports WWJ. They indicated not long after the attack that Moore, 38, may have been upset about a separate criminal case involving a relative. Source

‘Breaking Dawn’ Star Mackenzie Foy Gets Props From Onscreen Grandmother

‘This is far too quick!’ Elizabeth Reaser says of having a ‘granddaughter.’ By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Elizabeth Reaser Photo: Ray Tamarra/ FilmMagic PARK CITY, Utah — Of the onslaught of new castmembers that have come onboard for the two parts of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,” the young actress who everyone seems to be most interested in is newcomer Mackenzie Foy . The 10-year-old actress might not be old enough to truly grasp the OME-level of excitement that playing Renesmee, the onscreen daughter of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, should generate, but she certainly has made quite an impact on her co-stars. Elizabeth Reaser, who plays matriarch Esme Cullen, was at the Sundance Film Festival when MTV News caught up with her and asked her about working with Foy. Reaser had nothing but wonderful things to say about her newest family member. “She’s wonderful, and she lives across the hall from me in Baton Rouge, and she’s a wonderful, great actress,” Reaser said. “She never complains about anything. She’s so professional about everything. She’s such a sweetheart.” Obviously, Foy was cast not only for her acting ability but also for her resemblance to the movie’s stars. “I think it was really well cast between Rob and Kristen. She could be their kid, you know? She looks like that,” Reaser said, laughing about the fact that Foy, who is 25 years younger than her, is playing her grandchild. “This is far too quick!” In October, Stewart said she hadn’t had a chance to meet Foy yet, though that has obviously changed by now. She said that she didn’t know anything about Foy until “Breaking Dawn” director Bill Condon called her up. “[He] was like, ‘Wait until you see this kid. If you and Rob had a kid, this would be it,’ ” she told MTV News. “I was like, ‘That’s so weird.’ She just looks like — she sort of looks like Bella. Which is absolutely right. Although the funny thing is she has green eyes, and we both have to wear brown contacts together.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Kristen Stewart As A ‘Breaking Dawn’ Vampire ‘Scared Me,’ Elizabeth Reaser Says

‘Twilight’ co-star tells MTV News, ‘I thought, ‘This might not end well. She’s looking pretty pissed right now.’ ‘ By Terri Schwartz Elizabeth Reaser Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — Ever since Kristen Stewart spilled the beans at the that she had been filming “Breaking Dawn” as a vampire that day, it’s all we can think about when we get the chance to talk to one of her “Twilight Saga” co-stars. Elizabeth Reaser, who plays Esme Cullen in the film franchise, teased at the Sundance Film Festival this week that there have been some crazy vampire scenes on set recently. “There’s been some really cool stuff in the Cullen house with Bella,” Reaser revealed to MTV News. “There’s been some interesting transformations happening.” Sounds to us like director Bill Condon has been filming the famous “Breaking Dawn” birthing scene, and that Reaser got a chance to see Bella’s transformation into a vampire. already shared that the birthing scene will be shown from Bella’s perspective to keep with the film’s PG-13 rating , but as Reaser witnessed the whole scene unfold, what was her impression of Stewart’s transformation? “She scared me a little bit on Thursday, I’ll be honest with you,” Reaser said. “Because when vampires are newborns, they’re stronger than any other vampires, so for a second there I thought, ‘This might not end well. She’s looking pretty pissed right now.’ It was great.” Reaser’s praise of Stewart’s performance as vampire Bella matches with what co-stars Robert Pattinson and Peter Facinelli had to say about it at the Golden Globes. Pattinson told MTV News it felt like Stewart “wanted to do it the entire time.” “It’s really funny, it’s like a completely different environment on set when she’s a vampire and when she’s not,” he said. “I think she’s going to do it really well.” In the books, Bella becomes much more confident after transforming into a vampire, so it’s fitting that Stewart is coming into her own with the role. Facinelli jokingly credited vampire contact lenses as the real reason Stewart is doing so much better. “She’s doing really well. She looks fantastic,” Facinelli raved. “For some reason, once they put those contact lenses in, you look very statuesque.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Tobey Maguire Thinks New ‘Spider-Man’ Suit Is ‘Cool’

‘I’m excited to see it in action,’ the ex-‘Spider-Man’ star says about the outfit Andrew Garfield will wear in the upcoming prequel. By Terri Schwartz Tobey Maguire Photo: George Pimentel/ Getty Images PARK CITY, Utah — Ever since Andrew Garfield was announced to star as Spider-Man in Marc Webb’s big-screen reboot of the Marvel superhero franchise, all eyes have been turned to Tobey Maguire to see what his response would be. It’s not so much that Garfield replaced Maguire as Peter Parker as that Sony, who produces the films, decided that the series would be better served if it followed the teenage version of Parker through his transition — you know, to tap into the “Twilight” teen audience. And thus, the yet-untitled “Spider-Man” prequel was born. But there never has been any hard feelings between the two Spideys, at least publicly. The first picture of Garfield as Spider-Man hit the Internet on January 13, and it showed a different take on the famed suit than the one Maguire donned in the three Sam Raimi films. MTV recently caught up with Maguire at the Sundance Film Festival, and the former “Spider-Man” star said he has seen the new suit and liked what he saw. “I thought it looked cool,” revealed Maguire. “I mean, I think they did a great job with the design of it, and I’m excited to see it in action.” It’s not the first time Maguire has voiced his approval of the “Spider-Man” prequel . During a December interview with BBC News, Garfield admitted that Maguire had reached out to him to congratulate him on the role and give him his backing. “He sent me a lovely message through a mutual friend,” said Garfield. “He gave me his support, and it meant a great deal, of course, because part of the reason I love and have continued to love this character was because of his portrayal. To step into those shoes is no mean feat. It was generous of him to reach out and say something, so I’m thankful.” The “Spider-Man” prequel is filming right now, and is set to be released on July 3, 2012. ‘I’m pretty overwhelmed,’ he said of his best supporting actor nod for ‘The Town.’ By Jocelyn Vena Jeremy Renner Photo: Bryce Vickmark/Getty Images The Ben Affleck-directed Boston crime flick “The Town” may have only received one Oscar nomination , but Jeremy Renner admits he’s pretty excited to be acknowledged for his supporting part in the film. The nod comes a year after Renner received an Academy Award nomination for his leading role in “The Hurt Locker.” “It’s pretty fantastic. I’m pretty overwhelmed,” he told the “Today” show hosts on Tuesday morning (January 25), when he called in from Vancouver, Canada, just moments after learning of his Academy Award nom . Renner added that the morning program’s crew was his good luck charm, since he also appeared on the show after last year’s Oscar nominees were revealed. When asked who he planned to bring to the ceremony this year, the actor explained that he didn’t want to mess with a winning formula and would be accompanied by his mother for a second straight year. “I don’t think I’m gonna change a thing,” he said. “If it’s not broken …” Renner admitted that he took in a lot of Boston to prepare for his role as James Coughlin in the gritty flick. “Whole lot of places,” he said of the bars he hung out in the city. “They helped me along for sure.” Competing against Renner for the Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role honor this year are Christian Bale for “The Fighter,” John Hawkes for “Winter’s Bone,” Mark Ruffalo for “The Kids Are All Right” and Geoffrey Rush for “The King’s Speech.” Renner lost out in the best actor category last year to to Jeff Bridges , who took home the prize for his role in “Crazy Heart.” However, “The Hurt Locker” did walk away with the best picture award. J.K. Simmons Reveals ‘Spider-Man 4’ Character Arc

‘J. Jonah Jameson was going to be somehow exiled or disgraced or demoted,’ actor tells MTV News at Sundance of scrapped film. By Eric Ditzian J.K. Simmons Photo: MTV News PARK CITY, Utah — We’ll probably never know the full extent of what Sam Raimi had planned for “Spider-Man 4,” including widespread rumors that John Malkovich would play the villain Vulture . Sony Pictures bailed on the project early last year and is currently rebooting the franchise with Marc Webb in the director’s chair. But pieces of Raimi’s aborted “Spider-Man” puzzle could drip out in the future. In fact, J.K. Simmons, who played Daily Bugle head honcho J. Jonah Jameson, kicked MTV News a puzzle piece when he outlined his character’s planned arc for the flick. “J. Jonah Jameson was going to be somehow exiled or disgraced or demoted and end up in some little cubicle somewhere and be railing, even more than usual, against the world,” Simmons told us at the Sundance Film Festival . The actor was in town to promote “The Music Never Stops,” a moving drama about a man whose brain tumor renders him unable to differentiate past from present. But our talk inevitably turned to the “Spider-Man” that will never be, and Simmons admitted he was sad to see his version of the franchise die off — not least because it meant he wouldn’t get to cash that hefty check. “I’m still reeling from the rug being pulled out of us,” he said. “I had just bought a house I can’t afford!” Shortly before Sony pulled the plug, Simmons had been eying work on another three “Spider-Man” films and was having creative meetings with Raimi. “There wasn’t a script-script yet, but I had seen Sam a few weeks before that and we talked about story ideas, because on those movies, we always started on the script and we expanded on it,” he explained. “There was a lot of either us coming up with stuff in the room or doing it literally on set — a lot of improv-y stuff with the whole cast in those office scenes.” Simmons added: “He was saying, ‘This is the basic outline, now go bring me funny stuff.’ ” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
