Judson Birza, Survivor Nicaragua Winner, Arrested for Illegal Skateboarding

Judson Birza, who won what many consider to have been the most boring season in Survivor history, was arrested yesterday. For an equally unexciting reason. The reality show champion was stopped by Santa Monica police because he was skateboarding in the street, which is a crime in the city. Due to his subsequent strange behavior, Birza was booked on charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Police also discovered an unrelated DUI warrant, as well as a probation violation, on Birza’s record when he was taken into custody. Judson is being held on $37,000 bail.

Mass Police, Firefighter Layoffs Begin In Camden, NJ

These seemingly unnecessary lay offs may make more damage and empty more pockets than this state is predicting, as we’re sure they expect to save a few bucks here; while removing patrol from their violence ridden streets. With the crime rate in Camden being five times the national average according to the FBI, we have to take a second to ask ourselves, what the hell is going on? Some police officers are turning in their badges as part of deep municipal layoffs that began today and that could be a blow to the quality of life in this city, one of the nation’s most impoverished and crime-ridden. As many as 383 workers, representing one-fourth of the local government’s work force, are expected to lose their jobs, including about half the police force and one-third of the city’s firefighters. Firefighters are planning to march to City Hall today, and Mayor Dana Redd is planning a noon news conference to talk about the layoffs in a city facing a huge budget deficit and declining state aid.

Ricky Gervais Lays Into Charlie Sheen, ‘The Tourist’ In Opening Monologue

‘It’s going to be a night of heavy drinking, or as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast,’ host jokes. By Aly Semigran Ricky Gervais at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards Photo: NBC/ HFPA Earlier this week Ricky Gervais divulged to Conan O’Brien that NBC had supposedly axed an idea he’d had to don a Nazi uniform and joke that it was from Mel Gibson’s closet. Since then, Hollywood has been wondering how much the network was planning to censor the host or how much he was going to censor himself, for that matter. Within the first few moments of the funnyman’s opening monologue it was apparent he had no intention of letting up on the stars, and NBC let the host run wild. After taking his traditional first sip of beer, “The Office” star bashed Charlie Sheen for his now-infamous hotel antics. “It’s going to be a night of partying and heavy drinking,” Gervais began, adding, “Or as Charlie Sheen calls it, breakfast.” After recounting Sheen’s Plaza Hotel antics, Gervais asked the crowd, “What did he do New Year’s Eve?” While Sheen was fair game, Gervais soon went after not only the Hollywood Foreign Press Association but two of the night’s biggest attendees, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, for their nominated film “The Tourist.” Gervais ripped into the critically panned caper, garnering big groans when he said, “I haven’t even seen The Tourist,’ ” and adding, “Who has?” He then mentioned reports that the HFPA had been bribed to nominate the film by being taken to a Cher concert. The host joked that no one would be game for such a bribe because “it’s not 1975!” Once Depp (who was caught smiling at the barbs on camera) and Jolie were off the hook, Gervais laid into the women of “Sex and the City 2.” After suggesting they should have nominated the special effects team behind the poster, Gervais addressed the cast: “Girls, we know how old you are. I saw one of you on an episode of ‘Bonanza’!” The cameras caught a glimpse of the gals’ “SATC 2” co-star Chris Noth, who seemed to be taking the jabs in stride. When Gervais moved on to another film that was not nominated this year, “I Love You, Phillip Morris,” he made what was, at that point, his most shocking joke of the night. Noting that Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor were heterosexual actors who played gay characters, he made a swipe at either Tom Cruise or John Travolta when he joked, “So the complete opposite of some Scientologists, then.” After the loud groans settled, Gervais, who said his lawyers had helped him pen the joke, assured the audience, “They’re not here.” He briefly moved on to television and joked that nominee “The Walking Dead” could also be an analogy for Hugh Hefner’s impending nuptials. Gervais warned Hefner’s bride-to-be, Crystal Harris, “Just don’t look at it when you touch it” and mimed to millions of viewers what that scenario would look like. The moment earned the heartiest laughs (including from Halle Berry and Robert De Niro) and Gervais, in a nod to the earlier NBC censoring rumors said, “I warned them.” Gervais closed his monologue by talking about the series finale of “Lost,” offering his own theory that Hurley (Jorge Garcia) “ate them all.” While there were no Nazi costumes to be found, Gervais did manage to get in one Gibson joke, as he suggested the star is “obsessed” with Judaism. Lil Wayne Surfaces On DJ Khaled’s ‘Welcome To My Hood’

Rick Ross, Plies and T-Pain also appear on the Miami DJ’s latest posse cut. By Mawuse Ziegbe Lil Wayne Photo: Getty Images Lil Wayne is getting back to one of the things he does best: tricking out collabos with his trademark lyricism. On Thursday (January 13), DJ Khaled’s latest star-studded posse cut and first Cash Money offering, “Welcome to My Hood” hit the Net , featuring bars from Weezy, fellow Florida rappers Rick Ross and Plies and rumored Young Money signee T-Pain . The track, crafted by the Renegades, Khaled and the Nasty Beatmakers, features the victorious, speaker-shattering, hometown-pumping energy typical of the DJ’s all-star collabos, with Pain belting lines like, “Everybody know everybody/ And if I got it, everybody got it,” over the steely, bass-heavy beat. Ross leads things off, balancing glossy images of Audemars Piguet-laced wrists and mortgage-payment-sized bar tabs with grimy street operations, wrapping up with, “The Ferrari just a front/ Got the Lambo in the back/ Told you we the best forever/ DJ Khaled handle that.” Plies follows with a souped-up, eardrum-busting flow, detailing the exploits of his city’s hardened thugs. “I know some n—as from my ‘hood that would’ve rocked Noriega/ I’m taking Noriega, n—a, the real Noriega,” the Fort Myers rapper spits about hometown hooligans capable of ripping apart the infamous Panamanian politician and drug kingpin — not the Queens rapper Noreaga. Wayne closes the track with lyrics that reference his return to the game — and Khaled-helmed collabos — after his 2010 prison stay . “Back from hell, cell 23/ Tell the warden kiss my ass, pockets are Mo’Nique,” Weezy rhymes, shrugging off the drama of the jail bid. He also briefly touches on the 2007 weapons arrest that landed him in the pen, spitting, “Sh– happens, and since I’m the sh–, I’m who it happened to.” The I Am Not a Human Being rapper finishes with lines about his single-minded focus on re-conquering the game, rhyming, “All that bullsh– is for the birds/ Throw some bread out/ Got it sewed up/ Check the thread count.” Khaled hinted to MTV News last year that the first single for the forthcoming We The Best Forever would get the Wayne treatment. “When I work with Wayne, I always get the most classic verses, like ‘We Taking Over,’ ” Khaled said. “And this verse with my new one, it’s … I’m not even gonna lie: It’s amazing. “It’s one of them anthems that I do,” he added. “The streets are gonna embrace it on another level. When you hear it you’re gonna be like, ‘This is what I’m talking about.’ It’s that anthem, I got them.” What do you think of DJ Khaled’s “Welcome to My Hood” record? Let us know in the comments!
