Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood Talk ‘Inspiring’ Nashville Rising Benefit Concert

‘I’m just really happy to be a part of it,’ Swift said of performing at Nashville benefit show. By Jocelyn Vena Taylor Swift performs at the Nashville Rising Benefit Concert on Tuesday Photo: Ed Rode/ Nashville Rising/ Getty Images On Tuesday night, Taylor Swift joined forces with Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and even Sandra Bullock for the charity show Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert for Flood Recovery , at the Bridgestone Arena. The artists teamed up in an effort to raise money to help the Nashville area, which was devastated by floods earlier this spring. Taylor Swift explained that as soon as she heard there was a chance for her to help out , she jumped at it. “Thankfully the people that are close to me that lost their houses have found different places to live and I’ve really seen them help each other,” she said. “It’s been really inspiring. As soon as I even heard that they’re putting something together, I just volunteered and I said I want to do this and I want to help out. It’s really wonderful that Tim and Faith stepped to action so quickly. I’m just really happy to be a part of it.” Carrie Underwood said she was happy to help the city that has shown her music career so much support was heart-warming. “You hear everything from people losing possessions to entire houses being gone. I’ve heard of people living in tents in their backyard,” she said. “You just hear the worst of the worst and hope that in some way there’s something you can do about it. It is for a good cause so I feel like everyone has a happy giving. You look out there and everybody’s at their best.” Billy Ray Cyrus, with his superstar daughter Miley by his side, may have summed it up best. “You know it’s always great to come home. I’m sorry it’s under these circumstances, [but] to feel the energy from the crowd, the band — everybody’s coming together with a common cause,” he said of the evening. “It seemed to be quite a homecoming and for a good reason. I think that Nashville is going to survive this with their heads held high.” See the Nashville Rising website to learn more about what you can do to help with flood relief. Some Erotic Addidas Promo Video of the Day

I saw this Adidas video and figured since Soccer is going nuts, or at least the Eurotrash in this city are going nuts for Soccer and everywhere I look I see bitches in Soccer Jerseys, and I’d much rather see them stripping the shit off, unless they aren’t actually bitches but jus dainty men who look like bitches because spending more time doing his hair than a stripper before her first out of town show and squeezing into tight pants is the European way… Unfortunately, Adidas aren’t paying me to post this shit, but I figure when they give to the community of perverts by taking our World Cup fetishes to another level, they deserve the free press, and it’s not like anyone actually reads my site anyway..

World Cup players in Durban told to keep off the grass

• Holland and Japan forced to train in nearby township • Surface at stadium needs protection after heavy rain Holland and Japan had their traditional eve-of-match training sessions moved from the Moses Mabhida stadium on Friday because of concerns about the playing surface. The teams, who meet in their second Group E game on Saturday, were forced to train at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Kwamashu Township rather than at the new 62,000-seat area in the centre of Durban. “We had a heavy rainstorm last night and we’re just taking care of the pitch,” the Durban venue manager, Bongi Hlope, told Reuters. “We have three excellent training pitches around the city and so we’re using them to preserve the surface at the stadium. This will probably be the case for the remaining first-round games and then we’ll probably revert to the original plan from the round of 16.” The Moses Mabhida stadium will also host the Nigeria v South Korea and Brazil v Portugal group games, one round of 16 tie and a semi-final. The arena has hosted two matches so far, Germany’s 4-0 demolition of Australia and Switzerland’s 1-0 upset of pre-tournament favourites Spain. Fifth Time Is A Charm For Bryant

Kobe Bryant was named the Finals MVP after helping the Lakers rally in the fourth quarter for a 83-79 victory over the Celtics in Game 7 in Los Angeles. “This is the sweetest (of the five),” Bryant said as he accepted the Bill Russell Award as Finals MVP . “We understood how badly the city wanted it. This one is by far the sweetest because it was against (Boston) and it was the hardest, by far.” Not only was it Bryant’s fifth NBA championship but it was the first time in five tries that the Lakers defeated the Celtics in a Game 7.

Texas Legislators, Still Hustlin’: Houston To The Big 12?

Texan politicians of various stripes are legendary for their ability to shape the landscape of college football. (The most notorious example of this is then-governor Ann Richards’ lobbying for the inclusion of Baylor in the Big 12.) It should come as no real surprise, then, that a large-ish group of legislators isn’t through turning the conference this way and that, and their desires are fixed on Houston : State Reps. Garnet Coleman and Bill Callegari, both from the Houston area, co-wrote a letter Thursday asking Big 12 officials to consider adding the university to the conference. “UH is the third largest university in Texas, and is on track to rank among the top research universities in this state,” the letter says. “Despite UH’s local and statewide prominence, the university does not belong to a strong BCS conference such as the Big 12. The Cougars, the city of Houston, and the state of Texas deserve better.” It’s frankly not a bad idea. Houston’s a sizable TV market (though likely already saturated thanks to the sprawling reach of the Texas alumni base), and their football team, ranked first in the nation in total, passing, and scoring offense in 2009, would do the popular conception of defense-free Big 12 football proud. The move would also be a step towards healing a semantic rift. Texans are a pragmatic people, and the thought of them continuing to field a 10-team conference named “12” just doesn’t sit well. (Leave the imaginary numbers for those fancy lads up north.)

Introducing SB Nation St. Louis, Where Albert Pujols Crushes The Competition

As you may have noticed, the past few weeks SB Nation has rolled out a host of regional sports sites . We’re up to twelve so far, with eight more coming by the beginning of July. Twenty sites in twenty days, y’all. Bottom line: if your city doesn’t already have an SB Nation regional site, well, just a wait a few days and you probably will. And so it’s with great pleasure that I introduce our latest site, SB Nation St. Louis , managed by Dan Moore of our always excellent Cardinals blog, Viva El Birdos . He’s joined by a team of some of the best St. Louis sports bloggers out there, so be sure to bookmark it and check it out. Like the rest of our regional sites, the guy sat SB Nation St. Louis came up with a list of the top five most popular athletes in the city. I’ll give you one guess who took home the top spot. Starts with an “Albert” and ends with a ” My god will that shot off Brad Lidge ever land? ” Pujols. Things got more interesting after the Cards first baseman, with Adam Wainwright, Sam Bradford of the up-and-coming Rams (is there any other direction for that woebegone franchise to go?), Yadier Molina (don’t underestimate how much they love their great defensive catchers), and Steven Jackson rounding out the rest of the list. Now it’s your turn to tell us how you’d rank the stars of the St. Louis sports universe — after the great Pujols, of course. Will the much-ballyhooed Bradford edge out Wainwright, or will fantasy-favorite Steven Jackson take home the silver medal? Poll After Albert Pujols, who’s the most popular St. Louis athlete? Adam Wainwright Sam Bradford Yadier Molina Steven Jackson

Kristen Stewart ‘Genuinely Nervous’ To Film ‘On The Road’

‘There’s going to be a four-week beatnik boot camp,’ she says of prep for the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s novel. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Kristen Stewart Photo: MTV News While Kristen Stewart is currently busy promoting “Eclipse,” out June 30, another project has her excited for the future: the film adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s classic 1957 Beat novel “On the Road.” With the film set to shoot in August, Stewart is welcoming the chance to learn a bit more about the pivotal literary and cultural movement. “I’m really nervous, like, honestly and genuinely really nervous about it,” she told MTV News. “But not in a bad way. People think nerves are a bad thing. I love them. They get you ready to do something big. I’m stoked” Filming will take place in Canada, but first, she and the rest of the cast will get schooled in all things beat. “There’s going to be a four-week beatnik boot camp in Montreal,” she revealed. “That’s going to be amazing, because I haven’t read everything those guys read. There’s a huge education process that’s going to take place with the whole cast. It’s a small movie, so to have that much time is just awesome.’ “On the Road” also stars Garrett Hedlund (“Tron Legacy”) as Dean Moriarty, the disaffected drifter at the center of the story. Stewart will play Marylou, Dean’s wife. Filling out the rest of the cast are Kirsten Dunst and British actor Sam Riley (“Control”). Francis Ford Coppola is producing, and Walter Salles (“The Motorcycle Diaries”) will direct. The film will begin shooting August 2 in Montreal. Producers have already set up an office at Cite du Cinema, the city’s largest film production facility. After filming there for most of August, the shoot will shift to New Orleans for a month, then head to Mexico for a few weeks and finally return to Montreal before wrapping just in time for Stewart to shoot the final two “Twilight” flicks, adapted from “Breaking Dawn.” We’ll be live at the L.A. premiere of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” on Thursday, June 24. Tune in to Movies.MTV.com at 9:30 ET (8:30 Central) for our red-carpet webcast, and watch us chat with Robert, Kristen, Taylor and all your favorite stars. Randi Rhodes: Conservatives Hate Cops, Fire Fighters, Teachers, and First Responders

On Tuesday’s Randi Rhodes radio show, Rhodes was complaining that the stimulus money is running out, leading to layoffs of public employees. She lamented that Colorado Springs is going without street lighting and selling police helicopters, and starving the public sector is what conservatives want, because they hate public servants.  And this is exactly why the conservatives keep harping on spending, spending, spending as the problem: because they know spending, spending, spending is the solution, and they don’t want this solved! They don’t want this solved because they hate government! They hate teachers. They hate police officers. They hate first responders. They hate firemen. They hate EMT workers. They want it all to be privatized! That’s when you gonna get the haves having police protection and excellent schools and the have-nots having no police protection and no schools! And therein is the dreamworld for them. This is nirvana for them! She said 32 states don’t have the money for unemployment benefits , and that isn’t because they’ve overreached, but because they’re underpaid by the taxpayer. She’s talk radio’s answer to John Kenneth Galbraith. The fantasies about the conservative anarchists continued:  They’re firing every city and state worker. And that is what they’ve had in mind all along. Because then, remember when they were wildfires in California, and I had people screaming at me ‘Well, if I have more money, I should be able to hire a private fire-fighting company that has a gel that we don’t make available to the city firefighters.’ This was their argument. This was exactly what they were saying all along. If you have the money, you can save your house by buying a private firefighting company. If you don’t have the money, too bad for you, stand outside and watch your house burn down. Same thing with your kids, and their education. Same thing with EMTs coming to your house. If you can afford to have an ambulance come and get you, a private company, good! You’ll get to the hospital on time. If not, get in your car and drive yourself.  Oh you can’t? You passed out? Too bad for you. Shoulda had the money. That’s the world that they are building. How government is starving to death with Obama, Pelosi & Reid in charge is a bit puzzling, but liberals on the radio are imagining it any way.
