According to Fox News: The mayor of Charlotte, N.C. — the state’s largest city and the site of the 2012 Democratic National Convention — resigned Wednesday hours after he was charged with federal public corruption and accused of taking bribes in an FBI sting. City spokesman Keith Richardson said Mayor Patrick Cannon submitted his resignation letter Wednesday to the city manager and attorney. The 47-year-old Cannon is accused of accepting more than $48,000 in bribes from undercover FBI agents posing as businessmen who wanted to do work with Charlotte. A criminal complaint from the U.S. Attorney says the Democrat, who has been mayor for six months, accepted cash, airline tickets, a hotel room and the use of a luxury apartment as bribes and solicited more than $1 million more. During the last encounter, according to the U.S. attorney’s office, he accepted $20,000 in cash. Cannon says in the letter that the pending charges will create too much of a distraction for the business of the city to go forward According to the U.S. attorney’s office, the FBI first learned that he may have been involved in illegal activities years ago and started an investigation in 2010. If convicted on all the charges, he faces 20 years in prison and more than $1 million in fines. He needs to get his legal weight up… 20 years is a lot of time in the slammer.

According to The Huffington Post: All 167 graduating seniors of Chicago’s Urban Prep Academies are college-bound for the fourth consecutive year. Students of the two Chicago public charter high schools — located in the city’s Englewood and University Village neighborhoods — gathered Thursday morning to celebrate the achievement of their schools, which some have dubbed “Hogwarts in the Hood” for their impressive, seemingly magical rates of success, CBS Chicago reports. Still, Urban Prep’s founder and CEO Tim King says, “the only magic going on at Urban Prep is the magic that these guys put in with their hard work and dedication.” Mayor Rahm Emanuel was on hand at the Thursday celebration and said the network’s students were setting a fine example others should follow, the Chicago Defender reports. “I want everyone in this city, I want everyone in this country to look up here,” Emanuel said. According to Fox Chicago, 85 percent of the students at Urban Prep’s campuses come from low-income families and many of the students start at least two grade levels behind where they should be. Mentally Ill Prisoner Dies Of Heat Exhaustion In 100 Degree Jail Cell A mentally ill NYC prisoner who failed to open his vent and wasn’t checked on for hours inside of his 100 degree jail cell reportedly died from overheating. via CBS News A New York City official tells The Associated Press that a mentally ill homeless veteran who died behind bars last month “essentially baked to death” in a jail cell that overheated to more than 100 degrees. Jerome Murdough, 56, had been charged with trespassing and placed in an observation unit for inmates with mental illnesses at Rikers Island. Four city officials say Murdough, who took anti-psychotic and anti-seizure medication, apparently did not open a small vent to let cool air into his cell, as other inmates did. Officials also said he was not checked for hours, in violation of department protocol. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the investigation by the city’s Department of Correction. Cold world….

Viewers finally got to see the whole thing go down Sunday, but the joyous event was more bittersweet than we even knew thanks to Scott’s mother’s health. At the beginning of the evening, Kim’s sisters Kourtney and Khloe are calling all of her friends and family to organize the trip, and Kim’s still clueless. Scott’s mom, Bonnie, who’s in ICU with some very serious health problems, causes him to fly to New York to be with her like any good son would do. He made the right call, and is a far better guy than people think based on his reality TV persona. For the rest of the Krew, it’s off to the City by the Bay. Once in San Francisco, the Kardashian family prepares for the big night at their hotel, and heads to AT&T Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, Several of Kim and Kanye’s loved ones are already there. When they get word that Kim Kardashian is en route to the stadium, they head to the dugouts to wait. As Kim and Kanye pull onto the field, an orchestra starts playing Lana Del Rey’s “Young and Beautiful,” and roman candles go off all around them. “I really am in a movie right now,” Khloe gushed. “This is so spectacular.” “It’s so stunning and breathtaking… it’s truly a magical moment.” It’s even more magical when Kanye gets down on one knee and asks Kim to marry him, as the words “Pleeease marry meee!” flash across the stadium screen. She says yes, and everyone runs out on the field to congratulate them. “I’m, like, shaking,” Kim says repeatedly, adding of her diamond ring, “It really is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I just can’t believe I’m engaged.” “It is so crazy to me that this is all happening. Kanye really outdid himself.” “It feels like I’m in a dream. It’s just the most amazing experience. I am the biggest investigator, so the fact that I didn’t see one sign of this happening is the surprise of a lifetime.” ‘Ye definitely went all in, but what we forget is that while this was happening, Khloe’s marriage to Lamar Odom was falling apart, and Scott was losing his mom. Also, Bruce and Kris Jenner were on the verge of a split as well. With the exception of Kylie and Kendall Jenner , everyone had their own personal issues going on while they were celebrating Kimye during this tumultuous time. More than anyone, Scott is coping with the saddest thing ever. An only child, he and his mom were incredibly close. And he has to say goodbye. A few days after the proposal, Scott joined the rest of the family at Kanye’s concert in Las Vegas; Kourtney flies back to N.Y. with him after the show. A title card notes that Scott Disick’s mom died the next day. R.I.P.
