Issa Rae And HBO Team Up For ‘90s-Era, L.A. Drama Series

More here:

She has already successfully created one of the best and most popular shows on TV with Insecure and now Issa Rae is teaming up with HBO once again to give us a new show that is set in everyone’s favorite decade—the ‘90s. Source: Alberto E. Rodriguez / Getty As Insecure begins the early stages of its upcoming third season, series star, writer and creator Issa Rae is keeping herself pretty busy with a host of new projects, including the just-announced new drama series she has in the works with HBO. According to Shadow and Act , the currently untitled project is a drama series based in Los Angeles and set in the ‘90s. That premise alone is enough to get fans salivating at what’s to come, especially considering Rae’s deep affection for both the ‘90s and her L.A. hometown. The general synopsis of the future series offers a peak at what life was like for a black family in ‘90s L.A.: Issa Rae is developing a drama set in Los Angeles in the early and turbulent 1990s, centering on a black family “dealing with events of the era.” The description continues, “Bridging those later Reagan Era and early Clinton years, the drama will center on the marriage of Sheryl and Jackson, with the former an envelope bounds pushing real estate agent and the latter conflicted LAPD anti-gang task force recruit. The potential series will also feature the couple’s teen daughter and son, Ebony and Les.” Rae will also executive produce the series along with The Turner House author Angela Flournoy, who will also serve as a writer on the project. Speaking to the press about the new HBO series and working with Flournoy, Rae expressed her excitement saying, “I’m so thrilled to be working with Angela. I was a huge fan of  The Turner House  and we feel so lucky to bring her beautiful storytelling to HBO.”   Check out today’s Top Stories here: Will Mary J. Source: Thaddaeus McAdams / Getty Via | HotNewHipHop It looks like 2 Chainz is readying a new album for us again. 2 Chainz  is arguably one of the hardest working rappers in the game. Regardless of the time of day or year, the ATL veteran appears to be always working on his craft & recording new music for the fans. Hell, just a couple months ago we found out that he had  10 songs with Drake  just sitting in the vault, and also has an  upcoming collab with Eminem  on the way as well. In addition to that, 2 Chainz also released a highly successful, Gold-selling album (which will soon be platinum) in June called  Pretty Girls Like Trap Music , which featured guest appearances from  Drake , Travis Scott,  Gucci Mane ,  Nicki Minaj  & more, but it appears that’s not all Tity Boi is treating fans to this year. It turns out the ATL rapper is getting ready to release another album soon. Finish this story [ here ]

Rep. Maxine Waters Demands Supporters Help Her Impeach Donald Trump

Continued here:

Source: Aaron P. Bernstein / Getty Rep. Maxine Waters wants her supporters to be more proactive in helping her impeach Donald Trump . Don’t talk about it, be about it. Auntie Maxine appreciates that people are so responsive to her political efforts, but she told a crowd gathered at a Congressional Black Caucus Town Hall on Civil Rights that she’s expecting Black leaders to do more than just give her props. “Don’t come here and tell me, ‘Maxine, you keep on doing what you do.’ But when you gonna give me some support?” she asked. “How many of you in your organizations have said, ‘Impeach 45’?” Maxine wants her supporters to get up and do the work with her because she knows that there is power in numbers when it comes to politics. And if the audience didn’t catch it the first time, she reiterated her point, stating, “Don’t another person come up to me and say, ‘You go, girl.’ No, you go!” Some are under the impression that the business of impeaching a president is a complicated matter, but she broke down how simple it is. In short, impeachment is a moving target set by state representatives and senators. “Impeachment is about whatever the Congress says it is,” she explained. “There is no law that dictates impeachment. What the Constitution says is ‘high crimes and misdemeanors,’ and we define that.” The California representative then gave everyone a brief refresher on how the last impeachment happened. “Bill Clinton got impeached because he lied,” Maxine reminded everyone before running down the list of reasons that Donald Trump could be impeached. “Here you have a president, who I can tell you and guarantee you is in collusion with the Russians to undermine our democracy. Here you have a president who obstructed justice. And here you have a president who lies every day.” Circling back around to her original point, Maxine continued, “Thank God that the special counsel is beginning to connect the dots — and understand Facebook’s role in it and social media’s role in it. When is the Black community going to say, ‘Impeach him’? It’s time to go after him. I don’t hear you!” RELATED STORIES: Auntie Maxine To Jeff Sessions: ‘How Does It Feel to Be Dragged And Humiliated? Steve Bannon: Sean Spicer Is Too Fat For Press Briefings

Steve Bannon is not the kind of guy you expect to engage in body-shaming. For starters, he looks like if someone put a suit and tie on Keith Richards’ liver and taught it words like “globalist” and “cuck.” On top of that, he’s a 63-year-old White House strategist, not a 15-year-old Taylor Swift fan trolling Katy Perry on Instagram. But body-shaming is just what President Bannon is being accused of today after comments he made regarding Sean Spicer’s reduced role behind the White House press room podium. Asked why more press briefings are taking place off-camera, Bannon didn’t give the obvious reply (“Have you seen those trainwrecks?!”), but instead delivered a one-liner that went over about as well as the first Trump Care proposal. “Sean got fatter,” Bannon reportedly told a reporter. The comment caught the attention of many social media users, including Chelsea Clinton, who called Bannon out for what she considers fat-shaming: “The White House using fat shaming to justify increased opacity. 2017,” Clinton tweeted. When several of Clinton’s followers pointed out that Bannon appeared to be joking, Clinton amended her statement slightly: “Oh ok. So using fat shaming to avoid answering questions about increasing opacity. Got it. 2017,” the former first daughter tweeted. Few White House press secretaries have received as much attention as Spicer, and that’s not by design. Spicer’s obvious ineptitude has made him a frequent target for ridicule and even inspired a series of memorable SNL sketches in which Spicer is played by Melissa McCarthy . Judging from the reaction to his joke today, Bannon should probably leave the humor to her. There have long been rumblings that President Trump would like to replace Spicer with Deputy White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders. Reducing the amount of time Spicy spends on camera is seen by many as the first step toward replacing him with Huckabee-Sanders, so it’s not hard to see why Bannon would be keen to laugh off questions from reporters. But we’re guessing Spicer wishes Bannon would’ve chosen a different way to change the topic. Even the most soulless of dead-eyed lackeys have feelings. We think … View Slideshow: Tiny Trump: Internet Cuts President Down to Size!

Not So Fast! Tinashe Explains Her Convoluted Colorism Comments

Apega/WENN.com Rumor control… Tinashe Explains Her Colorism Comments After getting obliterated on social media, Tinashe is explaining the convoluted comments that landed her in hot water. Tinashe recently chatted with The Guardian about her upbringing and life in the music industry. Things got especially interesting however when the “Too On” songstress spoke on colorism in the black community. According to Tinashe, in the music biz you’re “either Rihanna or Beyonce… “It’s kind of like sport; people feel like they have to pick a side.” Suddenly she springs forward, her default laid-back demeanour temporarily out of the window. “There are hundreds of [male] rappers that all look the same, that sound the same, but if you’re a black woman, you’re either Beyoncé or Rihanna. It’s very, very strange.” Judy Eddy/WENN.com and sometimes the biracial songstress doesn’t feel “fully accepted” in the black community. “Tinashe’s mixed-race heritage, which was used “as another example of why I was different” during those difficult school years, also remains an issue. “There’s colourism involved in the black community, which is very apparent,” she says carefully. “It’s about trying to find a balance where I’m a mixed woman, and sometimes I feel like I don’t fully fit into the black community; they don’t fully accept me, even though I see myself as a black woman. That disconnect is confusing sometimes.” A shrug. “I am what I am.” Did you notice that she didn’t say her light skin tone is to blame for her shaky career??? Tinashe’s since taken to Twitter to defend herself and she’s adamant that her comments were taken completely out of context. https://twitter.com/Tinashe/status/874667420434157568 https://twitter.com/Tinashe/status/874683574166798336?ref_src=twsrc3A2Fallhiphop.com2F062Ftinashe-responds-backlash-colorism-comments%2F What do YOU think about Tinashe explaining her colorism comments???
