Ke$ha’s ‘Your Love Is My Drug’ Video: Beards, Boulders, Beatles And Bodypaint

‘Tik Tok’ singer’s wild clip, from Animal album, premiered today. By James Montgomery Ke$ha on the set of her “Your Love Is My Drug” video Photo: Eric Ford/ On Location News You can accuse Ke$ha of being many things (and after her divisive performance on “Saturday Night Live,” last month, many people have), but you cannot say that she’s not honest. In recent weeks, she’s told us that her brand-new video for “Your Love Is My Drug” would be set in a desert, would feature plenty of animals, at least one bearded dude , an extended, body-paint enhanced dance sequence in a cave, and animation inspired by the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” film. And now that the video has premiered … well, she wasn’t lying. “Drug” — which premiered at 12:01 am Thursday (May 13) on Vevo.com (link) — is very much all of those things, a rollicking, slightly nonsensical thing that follows Ke$ha and her hirsute lover on a psychedelic romp through the deserts of Lancaster, California. She rides an elephant. She covers herself in body paint (like she did on “SNL”), wraps a python around her neck and writhes beneath the glow of black lights. She crawls around with a tiger mask stuck to her face. Midway though the clip, the whole thing morphs into a heady, psychedelic trip, with curvy animated waves lapping against the desert rocks, and singing fish that look like they were lifted from the Beatles’ 1968 “Submarine” flick. None of it makes much sense, but that hardly matters. As Ke$h herself even admitted, she wrote the song “on an airplane, in, like, 10 minutes.” None of this is a slight on either the tune or the clip: It’s a supremely catchy pop tune, and the video is the perfectly blissed-out accompaniment. Of course, if one were to get deep about it, with all the desert interloping, “Drug” also recalls Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1970 film “Zabriskie Point,” not to mention the “Mr. Show” sketch “Jeepers Creepers Semi-Star,” but I’m willing to bet those similarities are purely coincidental. It seems that, with “Drug,” Ke$ha has stumbled on a perfect formula for pop success: Don’t think too big, or too much. Sometimes an elephant ride is just an elephant ride. It’s a lot harder than you’d think to make something seem this effortless. Like I said, you can accuse Ke$ha of many things — but don’t ever say she’s not smart . I don’t know what is going on in this clip, but I know the words “Soy Jism” are said by a female anchor who I guess committed herself to her career instead of taking creampies and makin’ babies like the 16 year old girl I met on the Native Reserve the other day…and now she’s sexually peaking, horny, desperate, she’s carrying it into her work and lucky for her work is on TV….and I like how her co-anchor starts lookin’ around for a bed to have his way with this dirtbag….

Demi Lovato Rocks Out With We The Kings In New Video

Demi Lovato and We the Kings throw a party in ‘We’ll Be a Dream’ music video. By Jocelyn Vena Demi Lovato in We the Kings’ “We’ll Be a Dream” music video Photo: S-Curve Records To follow up her recent duet with boyfriend Joe Jonas, “Make a Wave,” for the eco-conscious film “Oceans,” Demi Lovato is edging it up a bit for her pop-rock song with We the Kings called “We’ll Be a Dream.” In the video for the mid-tempo ballad, which premiered on MTV Thursday (April 22), Lovato and the band play a gig for a group of teenagers at a party in the woods. The track, from We the Kings’ album Smile Kid, is about young love and two people sharing their dreams of making it big someday, depicted in the video as a dreamy escape into a world of pillow, water balloon and food fights. The video was shot in Elysian Park in Los Angeles earlier this year. Lovato first appears in the clip walking through the forest with feathers flying as the teens laugh their way through a pillow fight. She then hits the stage for a performance of the song, while lustful glances are exchanged between two teens in the audience in the midst of the craziness going on around them. The partygoers settle down and simply start enjoying the song. Lovato appears to settle into her role as rocker , while she and the band’s lead singer, Travis Clark, smile and have a good time onstage. On the We the Kings Twitter , the band wrote, “@travisrclark: FINALLY!!!! @WeTheKings – We’ll Be A Dream ft. @ddlovato is premiering on MTV on Thursday!!” Lovato mirrored that excitement on her page, re- tweeting the message and reminding fans to check out the clip. Lil Wayne’s ‘I’m Single’: Meet The Women In The Video

Tammy Torres and Mizz Na’Tasha play Weezy’s mistress and wife, respectively. By Shaheem Reid Tammy Torres in Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” Photo: Nino Brown Now that Lil Wayne’s “I’m Single” video has premiered, people are curious about beauties in the clip vying for his affection. Playing the part of the mistress is model Tammy Torres. Torres, an alum of XXL ‘s Eye Candy section, has also appeared in other magazines, such as Smooth. She’s also appeared in other music videos, but her most popular cameo also comes courtesy of Mr. Weezy via his “Mrs. Officer” clip. Playing the part of Weezy’s wifey in the video is the woman the Twitter nation knows as Mizz Na’Tasha — however, Natasha Salimi said “I’m Single” is her curtain call. She’s retiring from the modeling game and focusing on going to school to study entertainment law. “I used to model. I been in Smooth magazine. My last cover is out right now. I’m in AsIs magazine. I was in ‘Notorious’ the movie. I was in Busta Rhymes’ video for ‘Arab Money.’ But I also work on Wall Street and I go to school. That’s my main focus now. The modeling is cool. … You gotta have a backup plan.” Na’Tasha told us “I’m Single” is actually her favorite record off of the No Ceilings mixtape, and she had a blast going psycho in the clip. “It was fun because I got to act a little crazy, stabbing the cake and throwing stuff,” she said. “Scoob was telling me to try and act as natural as possible and think about if I had something like that that happened in the past,” she explained. ” ‘Let it happen on its own.’ I tried to really put myself in the position of the role I was playing. Everything was laid-back, it was cool. Scoob is a great director. It went by quick. We came up with it as we were acting. I was like, ‘Wait, why don’t I act like I’m stabbing the poster then stab the cake?’ ” Related Artists Lil Wayne

Ke$ha Dances With Snakes For ‘Your Love Is My Drug’ Video

‘This is the video where I really got to play with animals and a hot bearded guy in the desert,’ the singer says. By Jocelyn Vena Ke$ha on the set of her “Your Love Is My Drug” video Photo: Eric Ford/ On Location News Recently, photos of Ke$ha prancing around the desert for her “Your Love Is My Drug” video hit the Web and fans immediately began to wonder what the singer had planned for the clip. MTV News got a few details from the singer herself about the sexy video. “In my video for ‘Your Love Is My Drug,’ it has a lot of animals in it, so that’s exciting ’cause I’m a huge animal lover and I get to actually, like, hang out and ride and perform with animals,” she said about the clip, shot in Lancaster, California, last week. “For more details, check out my video,” she added. However, we were able to get a few more details out of the singer. “I am wearing an animal mask,” Ke$ha continued. “I’ll give away one of them. I do get to perform glowing in the dark, in a cave, with a python wrapped around my body. So if that’s not sexy, I don’t know what is.” She says the video will also help to clear up any theories as to why she named her debut Animal. “I love animals — that’s why my record’s called Animal. People have their theories about why I called my record Animal — it’s really just because I’m obsessed with animals and I feel like I am an animal and I want to bring that out in people,” she said. “So this is the video where I really got to play with animals and a hot bearded guy in the desert. It’s so good! Just watch it!” Are you excited to see Ke$ha’s new video? Let us know in the comments below! Hanson Pay Homage To Blues Brothers In ‘Thinking ‘Bout Something’ Video

‘We all watched that movie over and over again as kids,’ Taylor Hanson says of the group’s inspiration for the clip. By James Montgomery Taylor Hanson in “Thinking ‘Bout Something” Photo: Cooking Vinyl Like most guys of a certain era, Taylor Hanson and his brothers grew up watching — and compulsively re-watching — “The Blues Brothers,” the 1980 cult classic featuring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as the titular brothers on a mission (from God) to save an orphanage. But unlike most guys of a certain era, they didn’t just watch it for the copious car chase sequences. “We all watched that movie over and over again as kids. I think I’ve probably seen it 1,000 times by now,” Hanson told MTV News on Friday (April 16). “And, what’s great about it is, sure, you can sit around with a bunch of guys and watch it again and again because you want to see the car chases. But that’s only part of it. We all loved it because it captures a certain renegade spirit and the kind of blind optimism that goes with making music. Being in band is reckless and kind of messy, and the film definitely captures that reckless nature.” So, in the back of their minds, Hanson had always thought about paying homage to the film — they just didn’t know when they’d get the chance to do it, until one fateful day earlier this year when the band were kicking around ideas for a video for “Thinking ‘Bout Somethin’,” the first single off their upcoming Shout It Out album. They wanted something that matched the joyous, retro-leaning feel of the tune and, all of a sudden, something clicked. “We wanted to announce that this record is sort of an unapologetic, bright, melodic thing, and so we — since we love this movie so much — we all watched one particular scene, with Ray Charles and the Blues Brothers band [ performing “Shake A Tail Feather” ] and we realized that if you played our song with the scene, it almost looks like they were playing ours,” Hanson said. “I mean, it was crazy. The tempo is perfect. It hit every music-geek button for us, and we absolutely couldn’t have predicted it. So we figured, now’s as good a time as any to make a video.” So, Hanson did just that. Working with Tulsa-based choreographer Heather Hall and director (and friend) Todd Edwards, they re-created the music-shop set from the “Blues Brothers” film (building it in the offices of their 3GC Records), recruited both fans and professional dancers and got to work. They shot the “Somethin'” video in two days, taking great pains to match the film, frame by frame, right down to the costumes and thoroughly outrageous facial hair of the Blues Brothers Band. “We put Isaac in a beard and long hair, and he looks almost exactly like [Blues Brothers’ guitarist] Steve Cropper. He was saying, ‘Is this too much? I look like Moses,’ but it was perfect,” Hanson laughed. “Honestly, it wasn’t all that tough to do. It was like when Peter Jackson directed ‘Lord of the Rings’ — he was already obsessed with it. And that’s how we were with ‘The Blues Brothers.’ ” The “Thinking ‘Bout Something'” video premiered Thursday on MySpace , and almost instantly struck a chord with audiences everywhere, including Perez Hilton, who praised the clip and singled out the cameo by “Weird” Al Yankovic, a longtime Hanson friend and collaborator who just had to make an appearance. “We’ve known him since ’98 and, small world, but he shot [the 1989 film] ‘UHF’ in Tulsa. Plus he’s sort of the king of recreating these pop-culture moments, so having him in it was almost like a blessing,” Hanson said. “He was a consummate professional. He learned all the dance moves, got the wardrobe just right. He was great.” So, really, the video is a success on many different levels: It let the band realize a long-standing dream, it has earned them all sorts of exposure and it reunited them with old friends. And while all of that is nice, Hanson says the most important thing is that the clip seems to resonate with people of all generations. “On the surface level, some people may just see it as a bunch of dancing, and that’s great. But then, as a deep cut, a lot of people instantly recognize it as being a tribute to ‘The Blues Brothers,’ ” he said. “It was very much a labor of love for us. It was a true DIY production, much like everything this band does … we’re really happy so many people like it.” Related Artists Hanson

Drake Says ‘Over’ Video ‘Takes The Song To Another Place’

‘It offers up a whole different look for the song,’ MC says of the clip. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Drake Photo: MTV News According to Drake, his video for “Over” should be out very soon and the clip shows a choice he had to make in real life. “It captures … it takes the song to another place,” he told MTV News in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, during the opening night of his Away From Home Tour . “It offers up a whole different look for the song. The song — to a lot of people — is ignorant, it’s club. This video is what I was really thinking about. The song is like a bad dream — but it’s not a bad dream, it’s not a terrible dream. It’s a little evil. The video really reflects that. It’s a struggle between the purities of my past life and what this new life has to offer. Even in the video, you see me looking back and forth between the two and deciding. At the end of the video I don’t necessarily make a decision, but when you get the album, you’ll see what choice I make.” “Over” is early in the Thank Me Later track list, and is part of a story that’s told through the album. “Initially it was a warm-up record,” he added of “Over.” “I love the song. I love the message in the song. It’s funny, because ‘Over’ is the fourth song on the album and it’s the turning point in the album. It’s like, you get three songs of me sort of trying to paint the picture of what the last year has been like for me — trying to fill you in, almost let you into my world as much as I can. ‘Over’ is that moment where you’re almost worried on the album. ‘Is this kid about to … ? What’s happening? Is he changing?’ I wanted that to come out first. I wanted people to be a little nervous. This whole journey could have changed me drastically. Fortunately I’m able to step out of my shoes and reflect on it and give you some great music. ‘Over’ is a great alter-ego moment. It’s the dark side of things and I really wanted that to come out first.” Thank Me Later is in stores June 15. Are you looking forward to the premiere of Drake’s video for “Over”? Drink Up with this Exclusive Clip from The Good Heart, Starring Brian Cox and Paul Dano

It’s the end of the week and you’re ready for a drink, no? Still, it’s a bit early in the day, so why don’t you get your alcohol-related ya-yas out via Movieline’s exclusive clip from The Good Heart , released today on video-on-demand and in theaters on April 30. It’s a fitting introduction to the dive bar that’s the focus of the film, a gritty place owned by Jacques (Brian Cox), who’s grooming the homeless Lucas (Paul Dano) to take it over. You’ll learn the rules of this particular establishment: dogs are permitted (as long as they can hold their own in a staring contest), but new customers are not, especially when they’re looking for organic ingredients in their Bloody Marys. You’ve been warned!

Splice Trailer: Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley Make a Murderous Baby Together

“Hey, there’s a new Splice trailer,” I said today to my Movieline comrade-in-arms, who had caught the film back at Sundance. “That movie is f***ing disgusting,” he replied. Between that recommendation and this clip, I think I’m starting to get excited.
