George Clooney is a free man, and also a talkative one, as the Oscar winner appeared on Fox News Sunday yesterday just two days after he was arrested outside the Sudanese Embassy in D.C. Clooney came out and accused that nation’s president, Omar al-Bashir, of “bombing indiscriminate, innocent civilians with Antonov planes” and added: “They kill people, but more than that, they’re keeping them hiding in the rocks, in the caves, so that they can’t farm, and they miss their planting season this year. This is the oldest society in the world, if you read the Bible. These people have been there forever, and now they’re not going to be able to feed themselves coming up in the next few months.” The star speaks from first-hand experience and says he has no regrets over Friday’s arrest. “I grew up in a family that believed that your job was to be involved with your fellow man. You have a responsibility to participate in the human condition, one way or another.”
A country girl at heart, Jennie Garth never quite understood the appeal of city life … and now she’s heading out of town with some reality TV cameras in tow. On April 20, Jennie Garth: Little Bit Country premieres on CMT. The show will follow the newly-single Garth as she and her daughters ditch L.A. for a simpler life. It’s a surprising move for the 38-year-old actress, who has laid low in recent years, but she’s clearly looking for a the fresh start – in a fresh location to boot. Daughters Luca, 14, Lola, 9, and Fiona, 5, will be relocating with mom to Santa Ynez Valley, Calif., along with a farm-averse assistant and a house full of dogs. Garth, who just separated from Peter Facinelli after 10 years of marriage, is ready to tackle country life for the first time since leaving her home in rural Illinois. Although the reality show will deal with Garth’s split from Facinelli, whom she married in 2001, the Breaking Dawn actor will reportedly not appear on camera. [Photo: WENN.com]
George Clooney is a free man again. After getting arrested this morning as part of a protest against the President of Sudan, the actor bailed himself out of a D.C. jail by forking over $100. George Clooney Arrested in D.C. Overall, the Oscar winner was one of 15 people taken into custody after he refused to leave a protected area in front of the Sudanese Embassy, as he and others – including his father, Nick, a journalist – were trying to bring attention to a potential genocide in the African region. Asked by reporters about his ultra brief stint behind bars, Clooney responded: “Listen, what we’ve been trying to achieve today is we’re trying to bring attention to an ongoing emergency… We hope people understand there really is a ticking clock on this and we need to get moving. There’s been amazing progress at times. There’ve been some great strides, but on the other hand, there’s an awful lot that’s still going on.” Seriously, how can you not love this guy?

George Clooney was arrested this morning outside the Sudanese Embassy in Washington, D.C.. The actor was taking part in an organized demonstration to draw attention to that country’s president, Omar al-Bashir, who is responsible for countless deaths in the region due to his blockade of humanitarian aide. Clooney – who has traveled to the country and said in the past we’re going to face a genocide if action isn’t taken – testified before Congress on Wednesday regarding the “campaign of murder” in that nation. “This is for the government in Khartoum to stop randomly killing its own innocent men, women and children. Stop raping them and stop starving them. That’s all we ask,” USA Today quotes Clooney as saying after he was handcuffed and taken away today, following repeated warnings to leave the area. Along with his father; U.S. Rep. Jim Moran (Dem.) of Virginia; NAACP President Ben Jealous and others, Clooney was placed in a Secret Service and has been charged with the misdemeanor of disorderly crossing a police line. Said the star’s rep: “They were protesting the violence committed by the government of Sudan on its own innocent men, women and children. They were demanding they allow humanitarian aid into the country before it becomes the largest humanitarian crisis in the world.”
Wait, people think that George Clooney is a Gaylord Focker?? George Clooney has addressed long-running rumors about his sexuality, claiming that he does not “give a s**t” if people think he is gay. The 50-year-old “Descendants” star has dated a string of beautiful women but has been dogged by claims that he is hiding his true sexuality. However, the Hollywood heartthrob told gay news magazine The Advocate that he found the gossip amusing. “I think it’s funny, but the last thing you’ll ever see me do is jump up and down saying ‘These are lies!’ That would be unfair and unkind to my good friends in the gay community,” Clooney said. A vocal supporter of gay marriage, the star admitted the public would likely speculate on his true sexuality long after he was dead. “I’m not going to let anyone make it seem like being gay is a bad thing,” he added. “My private life is private, and I’m very happy in it. Who does it hurt if someone thinks I’m gay? I’ll be long dead and there will still be people who say I was gay. I don’t give a s**t.” Clooney was once married to actress Talia Balsam but the couple divorced in 1993. He has had high-profile relationships with several women, including Italian model Elisabetta Canalis and British TV presenter Lisa Snowdon. He is currently dating actress and former WWE wrestler Stacy Keibler, who he escorted to the Oscars last month. Brad Pitt jokingly implied that Clooney was gay when he said that he would not marry Angelina Jolie until Clooney could legally marry his partner. Good for George…eff what them haters think, son! ‘Descendants’ star George Clooney and ‘Artist’ actor Jean Dujardin are two of MTV News’ nominee picks. By Josh Wigler George Clooney in “The Descendants” Photo: 20th Century Fox In less than 24 hours, five actors will find themselves officially locked in on the road toward Oscar glory. The 2012 Academy Award nominations are set to be unleashed on Tuesday, and while there are certainly some expected front-runners who will be in the mix, there are always surprise nominees who make the cut. In the Best Actor category, however, things seem a bit more predictable this year. A handful of performers have found their names repeatedly honored with nominations throughout the current awards season and the trend isn’t likely to stop before Oscar night . From bureaus to baseball, from silence to sex, here are our predictions for the Academy Awards’ Best Actor nominees. George Clooney, “The Descendants” Already familiar with the taste of Oscar gold, Clooney is very likely on the cusp of another major win for his touching turn as “back-up parent” Matt King in Alexander Payne’s “The Descendants.” Clooney has been on an Academy-attracting hot streak in recent years, what with nominations for “Michael Clayton” and “Up in the Air.” Under the right circumstances, he could have easily claimed victories for either of those roles. Will he find himself in the right crowd this time around? Leonardo DiCaprio, “J. Edgar” Critics were not kind to director Clint Eastwood’s biopic about the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s polarizing founder. But DiCaprio’s performance as the titular J. Edgar Hoover is another story. The three-time Oscar nominee turned in a transformative performance as Hoover, both physically and spiritually, and is likely to be recognized with a fourth nomination, if not a win. Jean Dujardin, “The Artist” It’s said that silence is acceptance. If that’s the case, French actor Jean Dujardin could well be accepting a Best Actor award on Oscar night. As the star of director Michel Hazanavicius’ silent film “The Artist,” Dujardin proved the old adage that a picture is worth a thousand words — in his case, moving pictures — as he stole the hearts of art-house moviegoers everywhere as George Valentin, a silent-movie actor facing the very real threat of falling from stardom to redundancy. Michael Fassbender, “Shame” Talk about baring it all! Fassbender truly shed every layer possible — and we do mean every layer — as sex addict Brandon Sullivan in director Steve McQueen’s “Shame.” It’s not easy for the star of an NC-17 film to cross over to the awards-season elite, but Fassbender has done exactly that, most notably with his Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. While he’s not likely to win — a true shame, if you ask us — his inclusion on Oscar night feels like the climax, if you will, of the Irish-German actor’s truly inspired 2011. Brad Pitt, “Moneyball” After the shutdown of Steven Soderbegh’s take on the material, a rewrite from Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin and the surprise hiring of Jonah Hill in his first dramatic role, “Moneyball” surprised everybody by simply existing. Unsurprising is the fantastic performance from Pitt, one of our most gifted (and gorgeous) actors. Pitt has yet to bring an Oscar home, despite numerous nominations over the years. His Billy Beane might be the most understated of all the characters likely to enter the Best Actor field this year, but true to the Oakland A’s general manager’s philosophy, it’s not always a grand slam that gets you the win. Some unexpected wins at the Golden Globes change the race leading up to next month’s Academy Awards. By Kevin P. Sullivan Michelle Williams at the 2012 Golden Globes Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Most people will tell you that they only care about the Golden Globes because of what the list of winners says about the Oscars. While the Globes aren’t historically the best predictors of Academy Award winners, they do often give a signal of where things are, heading into Oscar night. This year was no different, but don’t expect people to be erasing their picks from their Oscar ballot just yet. Here is what this year’s Golden Globe winners tell us about the Oscars. Sorry, Brad This year’s awards season has been marked by a lack of front-runners in most categories. Even with the dozens of critic organizations that have already awarded their year-end prizes, going into Globes night, no one performance or film stood out as the one to beat. (The closest one to a sure bet is Christopher Plumber for “The Beginners.”) Until Sunday, three men could have realistically been considered favorites for Best Actor: Brad Pitt , Jean Dujardin and George Clooney. Since “The Artist” skated by on a questionable comedy categorization, both Dujardin and Clooney took home Golden Globe statues and landed themselves at the front of the Oscar pack. This is essentially the end of Pitt’s Oscar run this year. Best Actress Award Is Up for Grabs Most analysts had considered Viola Davis the clear favorite to win Best Actress, but her loss Sunday night to the reigning queen of award shows Meryl Streep signals a change in the tide. The two actresses were neck and neck for the category, but lukewarm to negative reviews for “The Iron Lady” began to hurt Streep’s chances just weeks before award season got into full swing. Since “The Help” was generally considered a better film, Davis got the vote of confidence from many over the often-nominated Streep. Though she had been considered one of the favorites going into the Golden Globes, Streep’s victory is somewhat of an upset and proof positive that the Best Actress race is far from decided. “The Descendants” vs. “The Artist” These are the two films that have fought again and again for Best Picture awards for the past weeks, but the Globes did not offer any great insight for the Oscars. “The Descendants” and “The Artist” both took home the Best Picture award for their respective categories, despite the latter actually being a drama. The only thing we know for sure now is that these are the two films vying for Best Picture, with the “The Artist” maintaining a definite lead. Many considered “Hugo” a contender, and Martin Scorsese’s win for Best Director gives some validity to those claims, but for all intents and purposes, any film that isn’t “The Artist,” “The Descendants” or “Hugo” should throw in the towel now. Brad Pitt at the 2012 Golden Globes Photo: Getty Images The mutual love between George Clooney and his “Ocean’s Eleven” co-star Brad Pitt is anything but new. But on Sunday night (January 15), their love was on full-display as the pals put on some major emotional PDA for Golden Globe viewers. In pop culture, three’s a trend, and if that’s the case, consider the Pitt/Clooney bromance incredibly trendy. Walking out with a cane, an obvious friendly jab at Pitt’s current use of a cane, Clooney brought the first bromantic moment when he presented the video package paying homage to his friend’s Golden Globe-nominated film, “Moneyball.” “I have to give it back to him or he can’t make it to the bar otherwise,” Clooney said of the cane. “It’s been called a baseball movie that’s not a baseball movie because it transcends the sport. This a David and Goliath story of a general manager, his assistant and a failing Oakland A’s team who takes on powerhouse teams like the New York Yankees. It’s a movie about turning conventional wisdom on its head. And it’s nominated for four Golden Globes, including ones for Jonah Hill and some up-and-comer named Brad Pitt.” Pitt then showed Clooney some love back when he hit the stage to present the package for the Clooney-directed “The Ides of March.” “Young, idealistic campaign workers and dirty politics are the focus of a movie that shows how the desire for power can corrupt anyone in the political process,” he said. “Ryan Gosling is nominated tonight for acting and co-star George Clooney received Golden Globes nominations for his writing and directing of the film.” The final shout-out of the night came when Clooney won for Best Actor — Drama for his work in “The Descendants,” beating out Pitt. While Pitt may not have won, his presence was felt on the stage. “Wow, well, that’s the funny thing about evenings like this. You get the chance to catch up with old friends and see people that you haven’t seen in a long time,” he said before diving into the compliments for Pitt. “I wanted to say it’s nice to see Brad and it’s nice to be able to tell him not just what wonderful work he’s doing in two films this year, but also what wonderful work he does in the world to the rest of the people. I’m a fan,” he added, before also praising “Shame” star Michael Fassbender for his own talents in the frontal-nudity department. In the weeks leading up to the show, Clooney was poised for many a “death match” at the onslaught of awards season. ‘I sing part of ‘Black [or] White.’ I’m the ‘white’ in ‘Black [or] White,’ ‘ actor reveals on the Golden Globes red carpet. By Amy Wilkinson, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Chris Colfer Photo: Frazer Harrison/ Getty Images Fox’s song-and-dance series “Glee” is no stranger to a star-studded cameo or two, with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, John Stamos and Kristin Chenoweth all walking the halls of McKinley High during the past two and a half seasons. And as the show returns from a month-long hiatus, Gleeks aren’t the only ones anticipating a few more famous faces. As star Chris Colfer told MTV News on the Golden Globes red carpet, there’s plenty to look forward to when New Directions warble again January 17. “Well, the Michael Jackson episode …,” Colfer answered when asked about his most-anticipated upcoming episodes. “We have a Spanish episode coming up with Ricky Martin. We have a Valentine’s Day episode coming up, so that’s going to be fun.” Martin is slated to play “the hottest Spanish teacher ever in the history of Ohio,” according to TVLine . The actor/singer recently tweeted a joyful picture from his first day on set. As to how the King of Pop’s prolific songbook will manifest itself in the January 31 tribute episode, Colfer explained, “Well, I sing part of ‘Black [or] White.’ I’m the ‘White’ in ‘Black [or] White,’ and I sing ‘Ben,’ that famous song he wrote for the rat.” The rodent in question is the pet of a young boy named Danny in the 1972 film “Ben.” Jackson sang a version of the theme song that appeared in the movie’s closing credits and was later included on his 1972 album also named Ben . The track “Black or White” was the first single off of Jackson’s 1991 album Dangerous .
