World’s Weirdest Food

Each and everyone of us varies from our food preferences. Food is meant to be eaten and enjoyed, but what would you think of the following food? Tell me your reactions: 1. Monkey Brains in China Chinese cuisine is very varied. They can cook and prepare anything crawls, flies, swims or slithers. It’s one of the reasons that there’s such little wildlife near any inhabited region of China. Animals are food and there’s no room for sentimentality. But imagine sitting in a restaurant where a live monkey is brought in, its head sliced open and its brains served up as a rare (and illegal) delicacy? 2. Maggot Cheese in Sardinia One of Sardinia’s national delicacies is a rotten cheese (casu marzu) infested with maggots – the worms themselves become full of cheese fat and are considered quite sumptuous. 3. Roasted Silk Worm Pupae in South Korea If you go out drinking in South Korea, check if your order of beer is served with a tray of roasted peanuts….I mean….silkworm pupae. The cocoons are sold also on the street and taste, remarkably enough, like rotting meat. When you pass the vendors stoke up the pupae and the smell causes many foreigners to retch. 4. Live Ants in South America In the jungles of Colombia and Ecuador, there are species of ants which make for good eating. The locals dab them from the trees with a fingertip and it’s about as laborious as eating sunflower seeds to get a good mouthful. The trick is to chew the ants before they try and bite you. 5. Deep-fried Cockroaches in Thailand Disgusting and loathsome housepest comes as a tasty snack in Thailand which is sld deep-fried. 6. Fly Pancakes in Malawi In Malawi, flies are caught in the net and squashed into a patty and then fried as a pancake on any available metal surface, the sun being so hot. 7. Anything to do with Fish in Japan Everyone knows about sushi and stories about writhing fish, eyeballs etc are pretty commonplace. But what about a fish that contains a toxin so dangerous that it paraylses the muscles in your lungs? 300 people die a year from eating Fugu Blowfish and they have to just sit and wait until they suffocate. 8. Bull’s Testicles in Spain Wanna be man enough? The organic of counterpart of Viagra or way much better, they say. 9. Black Pudding in England Boiled pig’s blood and is served for breakfast sometimes. (Check ‘Dinuguan’ – Filipino Cuisine) 10. American Fast Food The food has all been processed to the point that it’s quite tasteless and then souped up with chemical flavouring that ensure that your Big Mac will taste exactly the same, wherever in the world you eat it. Bring on the maggot cheese. World’s Weirdest Food is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Manager Wants All-Britney Spears Glee Episode

Britney Spears. Glee. Her manager wants to make an all-Britney episode happen … or is just desperate for publicity and trying to leech off the hit series. Whatever the motivation, Adam Leber is lobbying for a Glee -ful Britney bonanza, Tweeting : “Do you guys want to see a Britney Spears episode of GLEE?” No word if this ploy will ultimately work. The show definitely had a hit with its Madonna tribute, and a Lady Gaga episode is in the works (according to Glee spoilers we’ve read), but no Brit. Yet. Not sure how we feel about this. Does Britney Spears really have an appropriate repertoire for the Glee club? It seems better in theory than actuality. Then again, how can you not pay homage to this: We’re on board as long as Lea Michele dresses like this . With a lot of heart and plenty of soul (or just ’80s pop), the Fox series has become one of the year’s top freshman programs, so it’s hardly a surprise Madonna approved of its tribute to her Tuesday. What do you think? Should Britney be next?

Shakira In Haiti: Meeting With Quake Suvivors

Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira, whose real name is Shakira Isabel Mebark Ripoll, is not only known as a hip-shaking artist but as a philanthropist, too. Shakira is meeting with the survivors of earthquake that hit Haiti just recently.  Survivors live in makeshift camps and the pop star is searching for a land suitable enough to build a school for needy children. Shakira waved her hand to onlookers and greeted infants as she arrived Sunday. Her Barefoot foundation provides nutrition to more than 6,000 children in Colombia, and she is member of the ALAS foundation that advocates for children across Latin America. Shakira was greeted by actor Sean Penn, who is providing humanitarian aid at Haitian refugee camps. The two stars spoke about challenges confronting Haiti since the Jan. 12 disaster. Shakira Meets With Haitian Earthquake Survivors

Colombian singer finds site for her planned school for displaced and orphaned children. By Gil Kaufman Shakira Photo: CBS More than three months after a massive earthquake devastated Haiti, pop singer Shakira visited the island on Sunday to make good on her pledge to build a school for the island nation’s children. Looking for a suitable site for the school for needy children to be built by her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation in the capital of Port-au-Prince, The Associated Press reported that Shakira touched down on a golf course that has become a makeshift camp for more than 50,000 homeless quake survivors. In addition to greeting fans and infants living at the Petionville Golf Club, Shakira met with actor Sean Penn, who has been working on disaster relief on the island since the quake struck on January 12. Shakira, who took part in MTV’s Hope for Haiti Now telethon in January, met with 100 children at the site of her Barefoot Haiti school, an offshoot of her foundation’s efforts in Colombia, where the organization provides nutrition, education and psychological support to more than 6,000 children displaced by violence. “We’ve come to make all the preparations to be able to start the building of a Barefoot school here in Haiti,” Shakira told Reuters about her latest effort. “We think we can employ what we’ve learned [in Colombia] here, apply it in this country which needs it so much at the moment.” With a potential 300,000 people killed and more than a million left homeless, many of them young orphans, the Haitian earthquake is considered one of the worst natural disasters in modern history. The singer said she believes that providing education to the many displaced and orphaned Haitian children is a key part of the reconstruction efforts. “We need to think about the future of this country and of how Haiti’s children can be useful to their societies tomorrow,” she said. “Education is one of the fundamental tools with which to develop and rebuild Haiti.” Learn more about what you can do to help with earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti , and for more information, go to Think MTV . Mexican traffickers cement grip in US

WASHINGTON — Mexican criminal organizations have more than doubled heroin production in a year and have cemented their grip as the predominant wholesale suppliers of illicit drugs in the United States, a government report concluded Thursday. The National Drug Threat Assessment found that Mexican groups were the only drug trafficking enterprises operating in every region of the United States. The study by a unit of the Justice Department says Mexican traffickers increased the flow of heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana into the United States, while they increased production of those drugs in Mexico. The reach of Mexican drug operations comes with the availability of illicit drugs in the United States on the rise, the report said. In 2009, the prevalence was increasing in some areas of the United States for four of the five major drugs: heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana and MDMA. Cocaine shortages persisted in many markets as they have since 2007 due to decreased cocaine production in Colombia, increased worldwide demand for cocaine in Europe and elsewhere, and enhanced counterdrug efforts by the Mexican government. Heroin production in Mexico rose from 17 pure metric tons in 2007 to 38 pure metric tons in 2008, with the increase translating to lower heroin prices and more heroin-related overdoses and more overdose deaths, according to government estimates in the report by the National Drug Intelligence Center. http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/03/25/1547256/report-mexican-traffickers-cement…. added by: copperdragon

8.8 Magnitude Earthquake off the coast of Chile

A massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake capable of tremendous damage struck central Chile early Saturday, shaking the capital for a minute and half and setting off a tsunami. Buildings collapsed and phone lines and electricity were down, making the extent of the damage difficult to determine. The quake hit 200 miles (325 kilometers) southwest of the capital, Santiago, and at a depth of 22 miles (35 kilometers) at 3:34 a.m. (0634 GMT; 1:34 a.m. EST), the U.S. Geological Survey reported. Its epicenter was just 70 miles (115 kilometers) from Concepcion, Chile's second-largest city, where more than 200,000 people live along the Bio Bio river, and 60 miles from the ski town of Chillan, a gateway to Andean ski resorts that was destroyed in a 1939 earthquake. Buildings shook and collapsed in Santiago. With phone lines down, confirmation of damage was difficult elsewhere, especially further south toward the epicenter. The quake was felt in Argentina as well. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a warning for Chile and Peru, and a less-urgent tsunami watch for Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica and Antarctica. “Sea level readings indicate a tsunami was generated. It may have been destructive along coasts near the earthquake epicenter and could also be a threat to more distant coasts,” the center said. The U.S. west coast tsunami warning center said it did not expect a tsunami along the west of the U.S. or Canada but was continuing to monitor the situation. The largest earthquake ever recorded struck the same area of Chile on May 22, 1960. The magnitude-9.5 quake killed 1,655 people and left 2 million homeless. The tsunami that it caused killed people in Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines and caused damage to the west coast of the United States.
