Andrew Zimmern, Bizarre Foods Host, Weighs in on Paula Deen

Bizarre Foods host Andrew Zimmern will put anything in his mouth, so perhaps it’s not a huge surprise that he’s not afraid to open it when it comes to Paula Deen. Deen’s controversial decision to hide her diabetes from her fans, then reveal it only in conjunction with shilling a diabetes-fighting drug, hasn’t sat well with many. Anthony Bourdain , for one. Zimmern, for another. The Travel Channel star revealed his thoughts on Deen to Anderson Cooper, saying the circumstances surrounding her diabetes diagnosis speak for themselves. “I famously came out last year against a whole bunch of cooks – not just Paula Deen – and what they cook and what they stand for,” Zimmern told Anderson. “I have a tremendous platform and responsibility to talk to people about issues, about sustainability and about health and wellness when it comes to food.” “I think it became a much more personal thing when she found out she had diabetes. I can’t judge what you do when you get that news, that’s up to Paula.” Asked if he would keep cooking fattening food, as Deen did for years, if he had received a similar diagnosis, the Bizarre Foods host answered diplomatically. “Personally, I change my diet every time I find out something new,” he said. “I famously tasted shark fin soup many years ago before we knew exactly what was going on with the harvesting of sharks. I’ve consequently come out against it.” “I make personal choices in my life and stand behind them.” “I am very much a person who likes to change with the times. Education is what it is all about,” he explained, declining to publicly condemn Deen. The general public, by and large, has not reacted as evenly. Deen is reportedly incredulous over the backlash she’s received since coming clean earlier this month, which has been considerable to say the least.

Miranda Kerr: Hottest Wonder Woman Ever?

NBC’s highly-touted Wonder Woman remake never even got picked up last year. Now we think we know why. No offense to Adrianne Palicki, who we adore. But perhaps Miranda Kerr would have been a better choice to channel as the titular Woman of Wonder. Case in point? The Aussie supermodel dons the comic character’s famous shorts, bustier, bracelets and tiara in the latest issue of Grazia magazine (below): As for why the magazine decided to do this? Who cares, really. But the creative director says : “We’re taking a big risk because Wonder Woman is a global icon and not just anyone could pull it off. But Miranda is an Australian icon herself.” “She’s the star who, time and time again, our readers say they most admire; a businesswoman, a wife, a mum. Year after year, she is our wonder woman.” Consider us convinced and in a state of wonderment over those legs.

Magazine Publisher: “There’s Nothing Wrong With Calling Rihanna A N***a B***h!”

View post:

Just when people thought we were living in a post-racial climate, “N***agate” happens. There’s no possible way you don’t remember a Rihanna taking to Twitter to beast on a Dutch magazine for calling her a “n***a b***h.” Once the magazine received hella backlash, the editor-in-chief, Eva Hoeke , issued and apology and resigned from her position. Well, the publisher of the magazine, Yves Gijrath , decided to release his own statement. What it comes down to is the publisher is saying they didn’t print anything offensive because the article was meant as a joke. “[T]here is nothing wrong in the magazine,” he said. “[Hoeke] presented [the offensive article] as a joke, but it most certainly was not a joke. It was an interpretation [of a fashion style] … She should have said: ‘we did not realize this interpretation is such a touchy subject. We never meant any harm and offer our sincere and upright apologies.’” *blank stare* For real?! Spotted at Black Voices . Santa Claus Becomes A Superhero?!

Original post:

Up until the point I realized Santa and my mom had the same handwriting, I wanted to know about his back story. Where did Santa grow up? How did he get the job of being Santa? Does Santa have superpowers? Back then, I was never satisfied with the answers I was given. Author William Joyce felt the same way and is releasing a series of young adult fantasy novels surrounding the origins of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy. Joyce’s novels have been developed into an animated feature length film called ‘Rise of the Guardians.’ The film finds the aforementioned characters banding together to stop The Boogeyman from turning children’s hopes and dreams into nightmares. The project will feature the voices of Alec Baldwin, Isla Fischer, Jude Law, Chris Pine, and Hugh Jackman . A script for the animated feature will be written by David Lindsay-Abaire . Peter Ramsay is slated to direct as well as executive produce alongside William Joyce and Guillermo Del Toro. ‘Rise of the Guardians’ is scheduled for release on November 21, 2012. Well, this is a trailer for a trailer, but it still has some of the first footage most of you will see from Ridley Scott’s Prometheus. This is some of the same video that was shown in Hall H at Comic Con this summer [1], with Ridley Scott sitting on a set that looks like it came right out of Alien. (And he is still trying to say that this movie is only barely connected to Alien!) Cheerios Bee Gets Sexy Online, Company Apologizes

The Cheerios Bee likes to get down and dirty, apparently. Thanks to some mischievous hacker/vandal, General Mills is scrambling to clean up a PR mess. Its website for kids is supposed to let them create their own Cheerios-themed cartoons, but someone got carried away and made an X-rated one. Which made it to the top of the popular “Honey Defender” website. See below: A rep for the cereal company says that, “We have some safeguards that are supposed to keep this from happening, but I guess it wasn’t set up with this game.” Guess not. That bee appears rather aroused. The rep tells TMZ, “Normally, games where we allow viewers to spell out things themselves have safeguards that tell children they can’t type stuff like that in. Let’s just say this is no longer going to be the ‘Hot Comic of the Week’ much longer!” Depending on your definition of hot, what could possibly replace it?

‘Avengers’ Trailer Tops 2011 Marvel Movie Moments

First look and Robert Kirkman’s subsequent commentary top our list of the greatest Marvel moments of the year. By Josh Wigler Samuel L. Jackson in “The Avengers” Photo: Marvel / MTV News With “The Avengers” finally assembling in just a few months and other properties like “Spider-Man” and “Ghost Rider” swinging back into theaters as well, it’s looking like a very bright 2012 for the Marvel brand. But don’t discount the power of 2011: From Captain America throwing his mighty shield to Thor striking lightning at the box office, it was an awesome year for the House of Ideas. From new releases and trailers to casting and crew announcements, these are our 10 favorite Marvel movie moments of 2011. 10. “First Class” Trailer Does Not Suck The “First Class” production horror stories were quite troubling to read about during the latest “X-Men” movie’s development, but that very first trailer more than cooled our fears. Matthew Vaughn’s exploration of mutant-kind in the psychedelic ’60s looked way up our alley based on that one trailer — and thankfully, we weren’t disappointed when the movie arrived a few months later. 9. “Wolverine” Director Drama We’re still nursing our wounds over losing director Darren Aronofsky from “The Wolverine,” but we won’t deny that the drama was interesting to observe. Thankfully, the story has a happy ending: Though Aronofsky won’t sink his claws into the Hugh Jackman superhero flick, “3:10 to Yuma” director James Mangold is coming aboard to save the day. We can’t wait to see what the newly minted “Wolverine” director has up his sleeve. 8. David Slade Finds “Daredevil” Likewise, we’re thoroughly psyched about “Eclipse” and “30 Days of Night” filmmaker David Slade heading to Hell’s Kitchen for Fox’s planned “Daredevil” reboot. Even though we don’t know who he has in mind to play the Man Without Fear, Slade’s plans to adapt Frank Miller’s classic “Born” story line are appealing enough all on their own. 7. “Avengers” Gets Conned We weren’t exactly thrilled about the lack of “Avengers” at San Diego Comic-Con this past summer, but the team at Marvel more than made up for that absence by attending the D-23 Expo and New York Comic Con a few months later. Featuring several of the film’s castmembers and presenting never-before-seen footage to an incredibly lucky crowd, both of the year’s major “Avengers” convention appearances proved to be valuable sources of information for fans of the upcoming superhero epic. 6. Spidey-Vision The “Amazing Spider-Man” teaser trailer released in July got our spider-senses tingling, and not necessarily for the right reasons. The trailer-ending POV sequence was a divisive creative decision, and the darker tone the reboot seems to be striving for didn’t sit well with everybody. That said, our curiosity about Andrew Garfield’s take on Peter Parker has never been higher, and it’s all thanks to that trailer’s existence. 5. Ghost Rider Pees Fire ‘Nuff said. 4. “Thor” and “Captain America” Arrive Finally, after years of waiting for the other core members of the Avengers squad to make their big-screen arrivals, we finally got our wish with this summer’s “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.” Chrises Hemsworth and Evans absolutely nailed it as the Asgardian warrior and super-soldier, respectively, and their return to theaters in next summer’s “Avengers” can’t possibly come soon enough. 3. “X-Men” Is “First Class” If the “First Class” trailer hadn’t already sold us on the Professor X and Magneto origin story, the movie itself sold us twice. “X-Men” was the surprise comic book hit of the year, if not commercially, then at least creatively. Brimming with phenomenal performances from Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Kevin Bacon, packed with outstanding action (Azazel FTW!) and clever connections to the pre-existing “X-Men” movie universe, “First Class” is my personal pick for best comic book movie of 2011. It’s that good. 2. Earth’s Mightiest Trailer Ever since Nick Fury uttered the words “Avengers initiative” at the end of “Iron Man,” we’ve been waiting for this trailer to drop. Finally, it did, and Joss Whedon’s take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes looks even more awesome than it did in our dreams. May 4 cannot come soon enough. 1. Earth’s Mightiest Trailer Commentary OK, the only thing better than the “Avengers” trailer? “Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman’s “Avengers” trailer commentary. If you haven’t seen it yet, behold the hilarity for yourself in the video above. Check out everything we’ve got on “The Avengers.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . ‘Walking Dead’ Creator On Shocking Season Premiere

‘Chandler, I think, was super-excited’ about his fate, Robert Kirkman says of episode’s stunning cliffhanger. By Josh Wigler Robert Kirkman Photo: MTV News One week after “Breaking Bad” delivered its jaw-exploding season finale, AMC has delivered once again in the form of “The Walking Dead.” The post-zombie apocalypse series crawled back onto television Sunday night, and it ended with one hell of a gut shot — literally. In last night’s second-season premiere, Southern lawmen Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal) spent much of the episode dodging zombies and trudging through the woods in search of a missing companion. Joined by Rick’s son Carl (Chandler Riggs), the trio’s journey took a turn for the eerie when they stumbled upon a deer in the forest … a deer that was shot in cold blood seconds later, the victim of an unseen shooter. That deer wasn’t the only party injured, either: That very same bullet found its final destination in poor little Carl’s abdomen. Shot in the stomach in the middle of nowhere with nothing but two men and who knows how many hidden zombies for company, Carl’s chances for survival are looking pretty slim. Regardless of whether or not he makes it, shooting a child in the belly certainly qualifies as crossing a line, but don’t fear for actor Chandler Riggs — according to “Walking Dead” comic book creator and executive producer Robert Kirkman, Chandler was very much onboard with the scene. “Chandler, I think, was super-excited,” Kirkman told MTV News about the young actor’s reaction to hearing about his character’s fate. “He was like, ‘I’m going to get shot? This is great!’ Chandler is really into that stuff.” Kirkman, who was on set during the shoot, described the process of filming Carl’s accident. “I got to witness what they were calling ‘Chandler Chucking,’ where they would basically pick him up by his pants and his jacket and then swing him onto a mat that was covered in leaves … he was totally into it.” “Anytime you shoot a child onscreen, you have to make sure the kid is OK with it,” he joked. “I think most of that was digital effects.” Beyond building a controversial, water-cooler moment out of shooting a child, Kirkman said that the scene represents another interesting aspect of adapting “Walking Dead” from comics to television. “I think that’s the magic of the TV show, personified in that scene,” he said. “That [scene] is something that happens in the [early phase of the] comic book series, and it’s a shocking thing. You’re not expecting that kid to get shot. People who have read the comic know that it happens, but the way we got to that scene in the TV show was done in a way that even if you’re completely, 100 percent familiar with the comic book, you’re not watching that going, ‘I bet he’s about to get shot. This is the part where he gets shot.’ ” “It shocks even me,” he continued. “I’ve seen that episode probably — I’m not going to exaggerate — 400 times already. I’m always sitting there watching it going, ‘OK, he smiles, and then the deer moves its ears, and then that gunshot’s coming, and then — oh God, no! It came!’ I can never really pinpoint when that gunshot is coming. It always really startles me. I think it’s a cool scene.” What do you think will happen to Carl?
