Justin Bieber Schedules Sneak-Peek Screenings Of 3D Flick

‘They’ll be surprised just to see I’m a regular person,’ he tells MTV News of ‘Never Say Never.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with additional reporting by Tim Kash “Never Say Never” poster Photo: Paramount Justin Bieber is already getting fans excited for the release of his 3D flick, “Never Say Never.” The singer will hold special sneak-peek screenings of the flick on February 9, two days before it opens nationwide. Need more details? Well, the screenings will be held at 6 p.m. at specially selected movie theaters across the country. Additionally, fans can get their tickets to the concert-film event starting on November 29. Bieber lovers who purchase passes also will receive official movie merchandise like a souvenir VIP lanyard, a glow stick, a bracelet and purple 3D glasses. “Everyone thinks this is going to be another 3D concert movie, but it’s anything but that,” Justin Bieber in a statement about the event. “It’s a story of how my family, friends and the fans helped me get here and every day are helping me live an impossible dream. That’s why I want them to see it first.” When MTV News caught up with Bieber at the American Music Awards on Sunday night, he revealed what fans can expect from the flick. “They’ll be surprised just to see I’m a regular person,” he said. “I’m a regular teenage boy. I like girls and I like to hang out with my friends. It’s gonna be taking them into my world, but also like it’s their world cause it’s just normal.” These recent comments about the flick mirror ones Bieber shared with us last month . “I want to let people know there’s a lot of people that are discouraging in life and that will tell you you can’t do something, but you just got to remember that the sky’s the limit,” he told us. “You’re able to do whatever you set your mind to as long as you remember to keep God first and stay grounded. So I think the movie really explains that, and it’s really inspiring.” Do you plan to get tickets to the advance screenings of Justin’s 3D film? Let us know in the comments. Bon Jovi Bring Arena Rock To The American Music Awards

Band plays new single ‘What Do You Got’ and mini-greatest-hits set. By Gil Kaufman Jon Bon Jovi performs at the American Music Awards on Sunday Photo: ABC Dick Clark Productions Bon Jovi could have played any one of a dozen tunes to celebrate the recent release of their new greatest-hits album. But in keeping with their relentless forward march, Jon Bon and the boys played the new hit single from the album at Sunday night’s (November 21) American Music Awards. The majestic “What Do You Got,” which features the band’s patented mix of cowboy balladry and pop bravado, was like a Bon Jovi greatest hit in a nutshell, with its combination of Jon’s street-tough-done-good lyrics about the power of love and guitarist Richie Sambora’s chiming guitar and towering backup vocals. The legendary New Jersey rockers were, of course, celebrating the new greatest-hits album and screened the concert movie “Bon Jovi – The Circle Tour” in theaters nationwide, so it’s not like they were going to leave the room hangin’. With more than 120 million albums sold over a legendary career, they had to cough up some of the good stuff. As Sambora ripped into the chunky intro of “You Give Love a Bad Name” and digital flashes lit up the TV screen, audience member Russell Brand couldn’t contain his elated smile while the band cranked out the hit that put them on the map more than 20 years ago. Sambora hooked up the talk-box and Bon Jovi spread his arms in triumph for another fist-pumping staple, “It’s My Life,” as the crowd, including a head-bobbing Jada Pinkett Smith and a devil-horn-flashing Jenny McCarthy, danced in the aisles, delighted that an arena-rock show had suddenly broken out in the midst of what they thought was just going to be another run-of-the-mill awards show. Michaela Wallace Interview: A Chat with Justin Bieber’s Girlfriend*

(* Not really.) I love Justin Bieber because he has great music that I can relate to, and it doesn’t hurt that he’s really hot! Michaela Wallace is certainly not the only 14-year old with this opinion. But she is the only 14-year old with a song titled ” Justin Bieber’s Girlfriend ,” one with a video that has gone viral and turned Wallace into an online sensation. The young singer spoke to Celebuzz this week about her single and her hopes for a successful music career. Might we have a female version of Justin on our hands? How long has been involved with music? I have been singing as long as I can remember. Music has always been a passion of mine and part of my life. In church, at school or just on a regular day when I disappear into my room for some one-on-one time with my guitar. I have been playing the piano since I seven years old and playing the guitar since I was ten. Does she have any special Justin Bieber concert memories? Yes! Before the concert in Nashville, I got to go backstage and play Xbox Kinect with Justin. The concert was AWESOME! It really was a night I’ll never forget. Her EP is currently available via iTunes. What are her next plans? I don’t really have any plans right now, but I look forward to writing and recording more music and who knows where it will take me!

Eminem’s DJ Alchemist ‘Became A Fan’ In Detroit

‘I knew Em was really comfortable,’ Al says after Thursday’s Home and Home show. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway Alchemist and Sway Calloway Photo: MTV News DETROIT — To steal a line from Bun B, Jay-Z and Eminem did everything but walk on water for the crowd at Comerica Park on Thursday and Friday. G-Unit, Young Jeezy, Drake, D12 and Dr. Dre were all guests at the shows, playing on a stage so huge, you could fit the entire Tigers and Lions teams on it. Before night two of the Home and Home Tour, MTV News talked to the man who had a very integral role in Em’s set, the Alchemist. Though Em tried out something new with a live band, he also had Al holding down his duties on the 1’s and 2’s. A few hours before taking the stage on Friday night, Al gave us his recap about the combustion at Comerica. “I think Em tested the waters [for these shows in Detroit and New York] when we did the Europe tour,” Alchemist said. “You could tell when he went out there in [Europe], when he saw the reaction of the people again, it was like, ‘Right.’ He’s been through so much. For him to be out there sober, this is the first time he’s hitting the stage — God bless the dead — without Proof. The [European shows] were big shows and a big step. You got the feeling he knew he had the step still, and people love him the same way. “I looked at the crowds in Europe and said, ‘You have to do those shows in America,’ ” he continued. “A lot of times you go overseas. The love is the same. But the energy you see at these festivals [overseas], wow! Coming back from that and hitting the stage [Thursday in Detroit], reassured me, with a little bit of organization and some thought, the energy is the same in America. I was thrilled, like, ‘Wow. We brought it home.’ “From the DJ booth [Thursday] night, it was hard. You see the sea of people on the floor. If I looked up, I saw a full stadium of people. If I squinted my eyes real hard when the records were playing, I could see them going just as hard as the people in the front were. That was amazing. Even when Jay hit the stage, he had to pause and take a moment to take it all in. I felt that too. That’s not scripted. “When Dre came out, that moment of the show, I became a fan. I was no longer DJing. At that moment when Dre came out, it was like, ‘Oooooh.’ He was five feet from me, he came out the floor. He was rising. It was like watching a video. It was the theatrics of a video. When he came out and did his Dre bop, it was like he never left,” Al observed. “When Em said, ‘You see what I do for you, Detroit,’ I knew Em was really comfortable. “When Drake came out, it’s safe to say women really like Drake,” Alchemist added. “The guys, of course, like him as well, but the ladies — it was a shock. I’ve seen them do [‘Forever’] a couple times. Last night was their best interaction. They’re getting into a zone where they are comfortable.” Were you at the Eminem and Jay-Z Home and Home shows? Eminem, Jay-Z Fans Travel Across U.S. For Detroit Concert

‘You’ll never see anything like it again,’ one fan says of hip-hop legends’ joint show. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Rahman Dukes Eminem and Jay-Z (file) Photo: Getty Images Very rarely do two hip-hop titans of Eminem and Jay-Z’s caliber team up to mount a series of stadium shows for their legions of rabid fans. Still, it’s astonishing to see the lengths that Shady and Hov heads would go to see the pair onstage. Their fans crisscrossed the country to see the duo light up the stage at Comerica Park in Em’s hometown of Detroit. The Thursday (September 2) event is the first stop on the duo’s Home and Home Tour and their followers showed major support; braving a possible downpour and donning Jay and Em memorabilia. “We’re all psyched,” said one fan who had rolled to the concert with three other homies. “How many times do you get to see Eminem play in his [hometown of] Detroit?” The fan, sporting a Jigga/Eminem T-shirt, added that the outing was really special because it was the first live show he’d attended. “The fact that it’s Eminem and Jay-Z just helps a lot.” Kipper revealed that he and his buddy J.T. traveled from Green Bay, Wisconsin, to take in the show. “I … came down to [see] something different, something big. This is the biggest concert of the year,” he marveled. “You’ll never see anything like it again.” Two of the rappers’ most dedicated fans not only crossed state lines to catch the Comerica show but even employed their passports, trekking from Ottawa, Canada, for the collabo show. “I really hope Eminem plays ‘Going Through Changes’ [from Recovery ]. I really like that song,” said Karen who, along with her friend, had fashioned homemade tees emblazoned with lyrics from The Eminem Show ‘s “Superman” and two Jay-Z’s smashes, “Run This Town” and “99 Problems.” Another fan, Jay, who traveled from Pittsburgh, was happy that Em was giving back to his hometown in the form of a major musical event. “He should show the love from where he came from. They helped him to get where he’s at. The least [he] could do is put on a big-bang show for ’em [and] show some respect,” he said. He added that he was checking out the show to see some of the game’s most talented MCs show their skills. “I mean, the best two lyricists to ever do it [are performing]. So, I’m trying to come and get some knowledge real quick.” Not even bad weather could stop fans from seeing the Grammy-winning legends hit the stage. “I’m just so pumped to see it,” “D” said. “I’ll see it in the rain, I don’t care.” One concertgoer, who donned a tank top that read “#1 Fan,” had a personal message for Shady: “Eminem if you ever see this, my name is Lindsay and I go to Michigan State and you should totally call me.” Are you going to see Jay-Z and Eminem in concert? ‘Due Date’ Director Todd Phillips Talks Following Up ‘The Hangover’

‘I think pressure is always a good thing,’ Phillips says about expectations for Robert Downey Jr. flick. By Eric Ditzian Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis in “Due Date” Photo: Warner Bros. Robert Downey Jr. is convinced that “Due Date” is a better movie than “The Hangover,” for the simple reason that, as director Todd Phillips explained to MTV News, “Due Date” is about something, whereas “Hangover” just follows a bunch of groggy dudes around Las Vegas. Phillips doesn’t necessarily agree with Downey, but he’ll take the compliment, just as he accepts the pressure of following up the $467 million worldwide success of “Hangover.” His mission after that flick broke big last year was to get right back to work. For that task, he hauled Zach Galifianakis back into the mix and recruited Downey. “Due Date” follows Downey’s character, Peter Highman, whose wife is about to go into labor, forcing him to hitch a ride with Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) in an attempt to get to the hospital before his child is born. Their road trip does not, to say the least, go smoothly. As part of MTV News’ ongoing Fall Movie Preview series, Phillips called us up to chat about working with Downey on a straight comedy, the “anti-chemistry” of his two stars and the difficulty of pulling off a cinematic stunt as surprising as the naked Asian who jumped out of a trunk in “The Hangover.” MTV : I take it you’ve locked picture a while ago, right? Todd Phillips : Yeah, we have. This movie could have come out in the summer, but because of “Iron Man 2” and Robert’s press requirements for a movie that size, we had to space them out. MTV : If it’s been done for a while, do you ever wake up and say, “Crap, I need to use a different take! I should have done this differently!” Phillips : It’s funny you say that, because just yesterday we watched one of the release prints at the Arclight [theater in Los Angeles]. You want to see how the prints look, so you go to a regular theater. There was actually a little sound issue. So we went back in and fixed something with the sound. But that was more of a technical thing than a creative choice. When you look back at movies, you always go, “God, I would have done that differently, or I wished we had tried this,” but this one is still too close for me to do that. MTV : Right, it’s when “Road Trip” comes on TBS that you go, “Damn!” Phillips : Right. I’ll see “Old School” sometimes on TV and I’m like, “Oh, if only we’d had more time that day we could have done that better.” MTV : You do have this great history with Warner Bros. and you’re coming off the huge success of “The Hangover.” When you said you wanted to do “Due Date,” were they ever like, “Todd, man, maybe hit ‘Hangover 2’ first?” Phillips : You know, being at Warner, not to sound like a corporate kissass, but Warner Bros. is like being on the Yankees. MTV : I’m a Mets fan, my friend. Phillips : It’s still like being on the Yankees! They just have it so wired. The filmmakers that they choose to work with they support wholeheartedly, as evidenced by gambling on a movie like “Inception,” which was so brilliant but so big a gamble in studio terms. But they trust Chris Nolan because he’s f—ing amazing and they just let him do it. It’s pretty much the most supportive studio I’ve ever been involved with. They were excited to do “Hangover 2,” but once I had spoken to Robert Downey about “Due Date,” they totally got it. MTV : Getting someone like Downey, does that alleviate some pressure — if there is any — about following up such a massive hit? Phillips : I think pressure is always a good thing. A lot of guys make a big hit movie on the size of “The Hangover” and they get gun-shy. They wait a few years in a weird way, and I wanted to do the opposite. I wanted to do something again and not worry if it was going to be as big as “The Hangover” because “The Hangover” was lightning in a bottle. You can’t judge other successes or other movies based on it. I just didn’t want to get into that headspace. That was part of the reason for striking out and doing something real quick like “Due Date.” It’s something I had been developing — it’s not like it’s rushed — but it went quicker because I was like, “Let’s just go do it.” For me, I choose movies based on who I can get in it. Comedies are so about casting. Obviously I wanted to work with Zach again after “The Hangover” and Downey is pretty much the best there is out there. Once he said yes, we were like, “Let’s just go.” MTV : We haven’t seen Downey do much straight comedy in a long time. I guess you could say “Tropic Thunder,” but that’s hardly something typical and straightforward. Phillips : Yeah, you haven’t seen Robert Downey be Robert Downey. A lot of great actors — you see this with someone like Johnny Depp, who’s a huge f—ing talent, and Robert Downey — where they play parts where they’re putting on masks or accents or hats and wigs. They kind of like to lose themselves in a role. In “Tropic Thunder,” which I think is great, he’s in blackface and you’re not really seeing Robert. What was fun for Robert about this, and what was fun for me to make it, is Robert Downey just being Robert Downey. There’s no makeup, wigs. It’s just Robert playing such a real character. MTV : Was that one of the reasons he signed on, to get back to something with less artifice? Phillips : I’m not sure why he makes his choices. I know he loved “The Hangover.” I know he loves Zach and was a fan of my films. Actors like to play. For a guy like Downey, he loved the idea of not being on a green screen for 60 days and just coming in and f—ing around with a guy like Zach and a guy like me. It’s a real loose environment, as opposed to something like “Iron Man 2,” just by nature of the effects. MTV : A movie like this lives and dies on the chemistry of those two dudes. Phillips : Or the anti-chemistry, in this case. It’s interesting, because before “The Hangover” came out, people could dismiss it or say, “Oh, it’s a movie about bachelor parties and Vegas. I’ve seen that before.” And a movie like this, you go, “Oh, it’s two guys on the road. It’s ‘Tommy Boy’ or it’s ‘Planes, Trains and Automobiles.’ ” And it’s really not. It works on this whole other level that I think people are going to be surprised by. It connects on a different level. MTV : It’s probably hard to put into words what that level is, but what were you aiming for? Phillips : This is how Robert explains it, which is sort of a backhanded compliment. He goes, ” ‘Due Date’ is a better movie than ‘The Hangover’ because ‘Due Date’ is about something.” I know what he means. There’s another dimension. As proud as I am of “The Hangover,” it’s a two-dimensional film. It’s a comedy that works as good as any comedy could work. But there are some character moves in “Due Date” that Robert and Zach go through that I think will be surprising on a film that you think you have figured out by the trailer or the poster. MTV : You mentioned that people look at it and think “Planes, Trains” or “Tommy Boy.” Did you go back and look at any of those road trip movies for inspiration or in terms of what to avoid? Phillips : I love “Planes, Trains,” and I seriously love “Tommy Boy,” which is one of my favorites. But one movie all three of us looked at is “Midnight Run.” That might be the best of the bunch. It’s not so much to emulate or avoid, it’s just to be inspired in some way. “Midnight Run” was a big one for me. MTV : The Dan Band has popped up in a bunch of your movies . Any chance we’re going to see them in “Due Date”? Phillips : The Dan Band is not in “Due Date,” and it’s just by the nature of what the movie is about and where it winds up. There was no way without it feeling incredibly forced. But you could argue it’s a little forced in “The Hangover.” But I love them so much. They’re the best. MTV : I don’t know if this is one of those questions you get a lot, but where do you go from a naked Asian man jumping out of a trunk in “The Hangover”? How do you top that? Phillips : That is a tough one to top. The key with comedies in general is they work when there are surprises. So a naked Asian man jumping out of a trunk is a perfect example of a surprise. It goes back to what I was talking about before with even just the nature of “Due Date.” There are a lot of surprises in the film that I think take the movie to another level. The surprises won’t be a naked Asian man or the Dan Band, but I think there are enough surprises that it will connect with people. But that is the challenge, because comedies work so well when they are surprises. Eminem And Jay-Z: By The Numbers

Before their Home and Home Tour kicks off, we size up the superstars’ stats. By Gil Kaufman Eminem and Jay-Z Photo: Kristian Dowling/ Getty Images Cincinnati Bengals wide-receiving duo Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens refer to themselves as the Batman and Robin of the NFL, but in the hip-hop world, Jay-Z and Eminem are more like the Batman and Superman of music. And just like it’s rare to see the two titans of comics together in the same panel, you know it’s a special occasion when Slim Shady and Jigga team up for a live show. That’s why fans are freaking out about the first of four planned joint concerts between the dynamic duo, which kick off at Em’s hometown stadium, Comerica Park , on Thursday night and wind up next weekend in Jay’s backyard at Yankee Stadium on September 12 and 13. Nobody knows who the pair will bring onstage as special guests or what they’ll play , though we did learn Wednesday that VMA nominee B.o.B will open all four dates . But how do the massive careers of these two titans measure up? Both have sold tens of millions of albums and played to hundreds of thousands of fans during their decade-plus in the public eye, and each brings a unique strength and style. Let’s break down their numbers to get a sense of what led up to this historic collabo: On the Charts Eminem has been a chart titan for his entire career, posting six #1 albums in a row on the Billboard 200, along with four #1 singles on the Billboard singles chart.
