Lady Gaga is so terrified that Islamic terrorists might attack her and/or her mega-concert in Indonesia, she cancelled the upcoming show, her reps confirmed. Gaga’s management team announced today there were major security concerns regarding the June 3 gig in Jakarta, the nation’s capital city. Extremists were calling to ban Gaga , fearing that her risque costumes, song lyrics and embrace of homosexuality would corrupt Muslim youths. The Indonesian Council of Ulema chairman, Cholil Ridwan, fervently urged a boycott, saying Gaga “intends to destroy the nation’s morality.” Security concerns for the concert skyrocketed from such beliefs, so much so the Jakarta police refused to issue the star’s tour a permit. This in spite of the fact that 52,000 tickets had already been sold. Given the current lack of permit, and the rising security threats, Gaga’s team threw in the towel and decided to officially cancel today. Gaga then released a statement Sunday via Twitter saying, “I’m so very sorry to the fans and just as devastated as you if not more.” “You are everything to me. I promise I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown.” The 26-year-old has courted controversy everywhere in Asia. South Korean critics also called for a boycott; She sang in the Philippines amid death threats, and most recently performed and shopped for a fake Rolex in Bangkok. [Photo: Fame/Flynet]
Gaga’s tour promoters are negotiating with government officials for Jakarta concert to go forward despite threats from extremist groups. By John Mitchell Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Lady Gaga has responded to the increasingly volatile situation surrounding her “Born This Way” concert in Indonesia, saying on Twitter that she has been asked by authorities to censor her show and has received threats of violence from Islamic hardliners should it go on as planned. Earlier reports indicated that Gaga’s planned June 3 concert at Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Stadium had been canceled after Indonesian national police refused to issue a permit, citing objections from Islamic groups who worried that Gaga’s performance would corrupt the nation’s youth. However, Gaga’s tour promoters are currently negotiating with government officials and police for the concert to go forward as planned. “The Jakarta situation is 2-fold: Indonesian authorities demand I censor the show & religious extremist separately, are threatening violence,” Gaga tweeted Tuesday (May 22). “If the show does go on as scheduled, I will perform the BTWBall alone.” Fifty thousand tickets for the show have been sold. While Indonesia is a secular state governed as a multi-party representative democratic republic, it has the world’s largest population of Muslims, most of whom practice a moderate form of the religion. However, there are also more extremist fringe groups that have in recent years become increasingly vocal, particularly regarding Western entertainers visiting the country. Beyonc
Okay, so I know that this story is old, but I thought I would share it with you anyways. My name is Elizabeth and I’m from Louisville, Kentucky and I’m 15 years old. When I met Justin, it was September 19th 2009. At the time I was 12 years old and in 7th grade. Every year, a local radio station puts on a “Birthday Bash” and they invite singers to come, usually 5 acts. In 2009, (when the only song Justin had out was ‘One Time’) I found out that he was coming. I was so excited because the tickets are only $5. That year we were going to see Jay Sean, Jessie James, Justin Bieber, and 2 more that I cannot remember. My mom drove me downtown alone since my friend would be late because she had dance. We were driving around for about 10 minutes just trying to find a parking spot and suddenly, I just saw Justin walking with his mom and the girl from OLLG. I screamed and my mom almost side swept a car. It was about 3:30pm and the concert didn’t start until 5. Right after I screamed, my mom found a parking spot, I couldn’t believe it. This kind of thing never happens to me. I hopped out of the car and walked over to him. Okay, just so you know I’m a pretty shy person and I had no idea what to do. I didn’t want to scream and attack him. You will probably think what I did was weird but oh well. So I ran a little faster to catch up with them as my mom locked the car. Before I knew it, they made a right turn and started walking down an alley way that was just the backs of buildings. I looked at my mom and she was like, “Just go and ask him for a picture.” Like I said before, I’m a shy person so I decided just to walk behind them slowly without saying anything. I said “Justin,” but not loud enough for him to hear. After he didn’t respond, I was like, oh well. But then his mom turned around and saw me. She nudged Justin in the arm and then he turned around. We were about 15 or so feet apart and I sort of just looked at him and asked quietly. “…Erm, can I get a picture with you?” Without any hesitation he said sure. My mom still hadn’t caught up so in order to keep a small talk, he asked, “So who else is performing tonight?” I assumed that he already knew this but he didn’t want things to be awkward. I told him and then my mom came with the camera. He put his arm around me and my mom took 3 pictures. In one picture you can tell Justin was reading my shirt. In the picture he is smiling because it said “Lustin’ for Justin” I didn’t come up with this, the radio host did so I decided to put it on there too. I warn you that the pictures are EXTREMELY ugly because I was really awkward and I had recently got a new haircut and she gave me a mullet. Later on we saw him perform live! In this picture I would say I was around 5’2 or 5’3 in 7th grade at age 12 so he was the same height as me when he was 15! Link: Okay, so I know that this story is old, but I thought I would…

Did you ever think to yourself, what if Keanu Reeves in Speed wasn’t on a bus careening through Santa Monica at the behest of a madman but sitting at a piano giving the concert of his life under pain of certain death? No? Well, that’s why you, my friend, do not have a movie deal with Elijah Wood in place to star as said pianist. A classical thriller, they’ll call it! More on Eugenio Mira’s Grand Piano after the jump. According to THR , Mira’s indie thriller trades on a concept as high as it is brilliantly simple: “The story concerns a once-great concert pianist who suffers from stage fright and comes back to perform after a five-year hiatus. Just when he’s about to play the first bar, he notices somebody has written a threatening note on his music sheet. He’s now forced to play his best concert ever to save his life as well as his wife’s.” “Think Speed at a piano.” Oh, I’m thinking it. And now that I’ve thought it, I’m thinking Speed at a number of other locations. Speed at the post office! Speed at the dry cleaner! Speed on a Zamboni! Speed on a boat! (Oh, wait .) Grand Piano will be written by Damien Chazelle ( Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench , The Last Exorcism 2 ); Rodrigo Cortes, who directed Ryan Reynolds in a box in Buried , along with Buried producer Adrian Guerra, will produce. Director Mira previously made the genre entries The Birthday and Agnosia and appears in Cortes’ Red Lights , but you may also recognize him from this infamous 2010 Fantastic Fest karaoke video in which he, RZA, and future Grand Piano star Wood sing along to the sounds of the Black Eyed Peas. If that’s not an auspicious start to a fruitful film collaboration, I don’t know what is. [ THR ]
