Jesus Take The Wheel: 13-Year-Old And 1-Year-Old Girls Killed After Ex-Microsoft Executive Crashes Plane Into Their House

This is so sad . Children Killed After Plane Crashes Into Their Home According to The NY Daily News The devastated mother of two girls killed when a small plane crashed into their Connecticut home bared her pain Saturday in a heartbreaking online message. “I can’t begin to imagine my life without you,” Joan Mitchell posted on the Facebook page of her 13-year-old daughter, Sade Brantley. “You and Madisyn were my world. My heart has been broken to the point of no repair…My life will never be the same without you and Madisyn.” Sadie and her 1-year-old sister Madisyn Mitchell were inside their East Haven home when a private plane piloted by an ex-Microsoft executive dropped from the sky and barreled into the house Friday morning. The pilot, Bill Henningsgaard, and his 17-year-son Max were also killed in the crash. The accident was Henningsgaard’s second in four years. Joan Mitchell, after escaping the wreckage and flames, stood outside the home screaming for help, witnesses said. Then she raced back inside the Cape-Cod style house in a vain hunt for the missing girls. On Saturday night, Mitchell made a quiet appearance at a vigil for her slain daughters. The shattered mother, wearing a blue v-neck t-shirt, choked back sobs as she embraced received waves of anguished well-wishers. “She’s doing as well as can be expected,” East Haven Mayor Joseph Maturo said earlier. A friend of Sade’s described the rising 8th grader as a “shy and timid” girl who loved music. “It was devastating to hear it was her,” said Starriana Zmuda, a fellow student at Joseph Melillo Middle School in East Haven. This is a tragedy all around…..prayers go out to the families.

Anti-Gay: Teenage Student Allowed To Wear T-Shirt With A Crossed Out Rainbow To School In Protest Against Gay Rights

Teenage Student Allowed To Wear Anti-Gay T-Shirt At School A Connecticut high school student who was originally told that he couldn’t wear his anti-gay t-shirt on school grounds has now been permitted to wear the shirt after the American Civil Liberties Union declared banning the shirt a violation of the student’s first amendment rights. via CBS News The American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut says officials in a school district are reversing themselves and allowing a student to wear a T-shirt with an anti-gay message. The ACLU announced Tuesday that the lawyer for the school district says Wolcott High School student Seth Groody may wear the T-shirt, which bears a slash mark through a rainbow. The other side showed a male stick figure and a female stick figure holding hands above the legend, Excessive Speech Day. The student wore the T-shirt in April 2012 which was designated as a Day of Silence at Wolcott High School as part of a national movement to raise awareness of bullying and harassment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people, reports CBS affiliate WFSB in Hartford. The ACLU says it was prepared to sue the school district. School attorney Christine Chinni wrote to the ACLU this month saying Groody may wear the T-shirt. Do you think the ACLU was right to allow this student to openly protest against gay rights on school grounds by wearing this t-shirt?

Quentin Tarantino ‘Annoyed’ By NPR Question About Sandy Hook

The lessons of Quentin Tarantino’s interview with Terry Gross on NPR?   He has a high tolerance for “viscera” and a low tolerance for questions that attempt to connect Sandy Hook and other incidents of actual violence to the kind found in movies. The Django Unchained director became audibly peeved when Gross asked him the question that every reporter feels compelled to ask filmmakers in the wake of the Connecticut shootings. Here’s NPR’s transcript of the awkward, testy exchange. I’ve taken the liberty of putting Tarantino’s comments about how linking Sandy Hook to violence in movies is “disrespectful” to those who died. I agree with Tarantino. Connecting the shooting to movie-making trivializes what happened in Connecticut, which, as Ross A. Lincoln pointed out in his post on The Hollywood Reporter ‘s poll on media violence, doesn’t bring this country any closer to figuring out how to prevent tragedies like Sandy Hook and Aurora from happening. GROSS: So I just have to ask you, is it any less fun after like the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary, like, do you ever go through a period where you lose your taste for movie violence? And movie violence is not real violence, I understand the difference. But still, are there times when it just is not a fun movie experience for you – either to be making it that way or to be in the audience for something like that? TARANTINO: Not for me. GROSS: So it’s so completely separate, that the reality of violence doesn’t affect at all your feelings about making or viewing very violent or sadistic… TARANTINO: Sadistic? I don’t know. I do know what, I don’t know. I think, you know, you’re putting a judgment on it. GROSS: No, no, no… TARANTINO: You’re putting a judgment on it. GROSS: The characters are sadistic. The characters are sadistic. I’m not talking about, you know, the filmmaker. I’m talking about the characters. I mean, the characters are undeniably sadistic. TARANTINO: Mm-hmm. When you say after the tragedy, what do you mean by that exactly? GROSS: Well, like… TARANTINO: Do you mean like on that day would I watch “The Wild Bunch?” Maybe not on that day. GROSS: Or in the next few days, like while it’s still – while it’s still really fresh in your – while the reality – yeah. TARANTINO: Would I watch a kung fu movie three days after the Sandy Hook massacre? Would I watch a kung fu movie? Maybe, ’cause they have nothing to do with each other. GROSS: You sound annoyed that I’m… (LAUGHTER) TARANTINO: Yeah, I am. GROSS: I know you’ve been asked this a lot. TARANTINO: Yeah, I’m really annoyed. I think it’s disrespectful. I think it’s disrespectful to their memory, actually. GROSS: With whose memory? TARANTINO: The memory of the people who died to talk about movies. I think it’s totally disrespectful to their memory. Obviously, the issue is gun control and mental health. Although it’s not in the transcript t hat NPR posted, at an earlier point in the interview, Tarantino explained that he did tone down some of the violence in Django Unchained . As Samuel L. Jackson mentioned during my interview with him  in December, his favorite scene in the movie, which was cut, involved his character burning off the captured Django’s nipples with a hot poker. The Playlist  also points out that another scene that was briefly glimpsed in the trailer but excised from the movie, involved the rape of Broomhilda. (You can find these scenes in Tarantino’s script for the movie, which the Weinstein Company has posted here .) When Gross asked Tarantino, “What are your limits for..what’s your sensibility for how much splatter, how much violence, how much sadism” in a movie “feels right, like it’s part of the genre” and how much feels like “exploitation,” the filmmaker replied: “I could handle a lot more than I put in this movie,” adding: ” I have a tolerance for viscera, more than the average person.”   But, he explained that after screening earlier, more brutal cuts,  “I traumatized the audience” when his goal was to have them “cheering Django” at the movie’s end.  “If you don’t cheer at the end, I haven’t done the job,” he said.

The Side-Eye: NRA Finally Breaks Their Silence With A Shady Azz Statement

So basically, what you’re sayin’ is… According to Politico , the NRA made an announcement, just so they could announce that they’ll hold a press conference Friday: The National Rifle Association is promising to make “meaningful contributions” as the debate surrounding gun violence in the United States rages, the group announced Tuesday. Breaking the NRA’s five days of silence after the deadly shootings in Newtown, Conn., the largest gun rights group in the country announced a news conference in Washington, D.C., on Friday to address the issue. “The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown,” the statement said. “Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.” The group’s statement continued: “The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again” Do they really think a week after this tragedy is still a good time to have a cotdayum press conference?? SMH. We can’t wait to hear what these cowboys have to say. Images via tumblr

Victoria Jackson: Adam Lanza No Different Than Obama, Women Who Have Abortions

Former Saturday Night Live star and conservative activist Victoria Jackson has made a series of controversial comments in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School murders. She harshly criticized President Barack Obama, which is hardly surprising, but her comments on killer Adam Lanza raised eyebrows – even by Jackson standards. Of the Newtown, Conn., shooting, Jackson posted on Facebook, quoting a friend: “Wasn’t the Connecticut killer just doing what abortionists do every day?” “It’s a wonder we don’t have more 20-year-old ‘dads’ doing what women and doctors have been an accomplice to for years. When you forget the TEN COMMANDMENTS, THIS is what you get’.” While one outraged person said that Jackson should have to “go before all of the families that lost loved ones” with her views, that didn’t stop her for a second. The Tea Party supporter went on to criticize President Barack Obama, claiming his pro-choice views are tantamount to mass murder along Lanza’s lines. Jackson wrote: “Obama dramatically wiped a tear as he said, ‘The majority of those who died today were children – beautiful little kids … They had their entire lives ahead of them.” “YEAH OBAMA. SAME AS THE MILLION BABIES YOU HAD ABORTED THIS YEAR IN AMERICA. ARE YOU CRYING FOR THEM?!” Jackson, who describes herself as being “an outspoken activist for the conservative movement,” on Facebook, may be understating the outspoken part. In President Obama’s Newtown speech last night, he called for America to ask “hard questions” about itself and whether we are doing all we can to care for our children. No response yet from Victoria, but you can bet it won’t be a measured one.
