‘American Idol’ Brings Back Nigel Lythgoe

Former ‘Idol’ executive producer left the show in 2008 to focus on ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe Nigel Lythgoe Photo: Getty Images In addition to switching up the judges’ panel, “American Idol” is making some changes behind the scenes: Nigel Lythgoe, a former “Idol” executive producer, is returning to the Fox hit. Reps from the show confirmed to USA Today that Lythgoe, who left “Idol” in 2008 to focus on “So You Think You Can Dance” as an executive producer and judge, will be back on “Idol” for the upcoming season. The TV exec has reportedly signed a two-year contract to shape the show alongside creator Simon Fuller and executive producers Cecile Frot-Coutaz and Ken Warwick. Lythgoe’s return might mean that a decision about the ever-evolving judges’ panel will be announced soon. Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres have both announced that they will not return to the talent behemoth, and the show’s producers have not publicly revealed the official lineup for the upcoming season. However, Lythgoe has been vocal about who he would bring in to the “Idol” fold, citing Elton John and Usher as ideal critics. The TV exec has also mentioned that he would circle back to the show’s original formula and put Paula Abdul behind the judges’ table. For Lythgoe, the show lost its footing , and he recently commented that the ninth season ran into trouble when “Idol” producers shifted the focus away from the contestants. “The team took their eye off the ball a little bit and was more worried about the judges and what was happening with them than it was regarding the talent last year,” Lythgoe said in a June interview with The Canadian Press. “It became about Kara [DioGuardi] joining and making the fourth judge; Paula [Abdul] leaving; Ellen [DeGeneres] joining and Simon leaving — and much more about them and concentrating on that than on the talent that they were finding.” While it is clear that Lythgoe will head back to “Idol,” the rumored addition of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler to the show has not been confirmed. Fox Entertainment Chairman Peter Rice recently addressed rumors surrounding the future of “Idol” and told reporters that “much of the information that has been written is accurate” but added that some reports have been “widely inaccurate.” Are you happy one of the show’s original producers is back behind the scenes? Crazy Christian Blames American Idol Ratings on Ellen’s Sexuality

American Idol experienced a decrease in ratings this season. New judge Ellen DeGeneres is a lesbian. Clearly, says Gary McCullough, the director of the Christian Newswire , these two facts are related. In a press release today, he wrote: I am confident that the producers of American Idol will… find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a virtue. If one of the judges was an abortion activist, or a political right winger and continued to insert comments in line with their activism, the same criticism would be true, and the show would suffer. What a great point. Ellen once joked on air about having loved a woman – that’s the exact same thing as a pro-choice judge telling a contestant: “You really killed that song, the same way women across the country should be free to kill their unborn babies.” McCullough added: Network television producers may or may not stop promoting homosexuality; but for certain they will learn to keep homosexual activism separate from the cash-cow of “family entertainment.” There is of course the insane possibility that Hollywood will forsake ratings… and continue down the path of change. Perhaps next we will see the pro-pedophilia group NAMBLA use its influence in Hollywood to have Dancing with the Stars seat Roman Polanski as a judge. Yes, he just compared homosexuality to pedophilia and statutory rape. This genius makes unassailable arguments. There’s no way season nine ratings were down because the contestants were boring, and the key demographic for Idol – a singing competition whose main, highly-rated season eight attraction was Adam Lambert – is clearly people that have a problem with gays. What do you think? Did Ellen’s sexuality contribute to the show’s lackluster ratings?

True Beauty stars Beth Ostrosky Stern and Carson Cressley. who are all competing to see who is the most beautiful not just on the outside, but on the inside as well. As reported at buddytv.com, the episode began with the show’s new hosts Beth Stern and Carson Kressley, joining the show’s secret host Vanessa Minillo in the spy room. From the spy room, they can check up on the contestants in their new home, and while they’re out on their challenge. True Beauty features Beth Ostrosky Stern From there the contestants made their way to the “Face of Vegas” runway, where we get to meet the 10 contestants and they get to meet each other. First up was former teen beauty queen Regina, who was followed by actor/model Michael. Cuban model Liz was next, followed by former pro athlete Taylor and Erika, who claims she’s never had plastic surgery on her face. JD took to the runway next, followed by dancer Michelle, astrologer David, Amy, and finally Craig, who appeared to really work the crowd. After they had all been introduced, it was off to check out their new digs at Planet Hollywood. Then it was time for their very first challenge, which involved creating an iconic Vegas look for themselves on a budget of just $200. But there was a hidden part to it. Little did they know, their stylist was going to encourage them to steal an item from the store to enhance their outfits. Michelle went for a pin-up girl look, Amy went for a Vegas bride look, Erika decided on a Marilyn Monroe look, and Regina went for Lady Luck look. Meanwhile, Craig dressed as a cowboy, Taylor went for a rocker look, Michael went with a Vegas pimp style, David did Elvis, Liz went with go-go girl and JD decided to do drag queen. They then had to stand in glass cases on the Vegas strip, collecting faux coins from passers-by. The person who collected the most would win the challenge. Anyway, when it came down to the results, Liz was the contestant with the most coins. Both David and JD got the least amount, so they both faced possible elimination. However, it was JD who was sent packing. Did you enjoy last night’s season 2 premiere?
