Mac Miller Shows Growth In Sold-Out New York Concert

‘Now we got all the extra stuff. It’s a different kind of show,’ MC says of Macadelic tour on ‘RapFix Live.’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Mac Miller Photo: FilmMagic If Mac Miller ‘s Macadelic mixtape is all about growth, then his new and improved stage show is the visual representation of that. It’s hard to imagine that Mac’s live show could have gotten that much better in the three short months between his Blue Slide Park run and his current Macadelic tour, but the 20-year-old Pittsburgh MC continues to master the stage, as he proved Wednesday night during his sold-out gig at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom. Visually, Mac’s new trippy set design is a step up from the playground theme he used when he was on the road promoting BSP. “It’s cool, man, it’s a different type of thing. We were used to doing like the DJ, me and the hypeman and then that’s it and the homeys,” Mac said when he appeared on “RapFix Live” only hours before he took the stage. “Now we got all the extra stuff. We got like the cool visuals. It’s a different kind of show.” For starters, there was a five-panel video screen that hovered above the stage displaying customized montages for each of the songs that Mac performed. There were colorful LCD lights, raised platforms and a gang of illuminated faux mushrooms on the stage. Miller didn’t reveal all of the props all at once; instead, he pulled back the layers to his set design slowly as the hour-long show progressed. It was just after 9:30 p.m. when DJ Clockwork jumped on the turntables playing “English Lane,” the opening track to Mac’s #1 debut album . Immediately afterward, the star rapper and his hypeman TreeJay stormed out onstage rapping along to “Blue Slide Park.” Miller started out strong, throwing out his club-hopping anthem ” Party on Fifth Ave .” rather early before stopping to address the spirited crowd. “New York City, what the f— is good?” he shouted as the young concertgoers screamed ferociously for their rap hero. “My name is Mac Miller and I appreciate y’all coming out.” It was September 2010 when a then wet-behind-the-ears Mac performed his first show in NYC at the intimate SOB’s, but on Wednesday night he returned a much different MC. Still, the Most Dope General didn’t forget what got him here, so he ran through several songs from his 2010 K.I.D.S. mixtape, including “Don’t Mind if I Do,” “The Spins” and “Kool-Aid & Frozen Pizza.” After he bounced around to the rambunctious ” Knock Knock ,” the stage lights went low and the psychedelic mushroom props started to glow as the Mac emerged from the dark, spitting “Loud.” Since 2011 the energetic performer has rocked more than 200 shows, and while he made sure to roll out all of his fan favorites, he was clearly excited to put his new material on display. He slowed things down for the soul-searching “Thoughts From a Balcony,” “Angels” and “F— ‘Em All” but picked things right up for his set-closing “Donald Trump.” While rapping the words to his gold-selling single, Miller played to the crowd, encouraging a full-throated sing-along. On the song’s hook, Mac promises to “take over the world,” yeah, one concert venue at a time. What is your favorite Mac Miller live performance? Tell us in the comments! ‘Five-Year Engagement’ Cast Reveals How They Keep Composure

Jason Segel, Emily Blunt and Alison Brie share with MTV News cures for avoiding on-set laughter: ‘I just think of really dark, morbid stuff.’ By Kara Warner Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Chris Pratt and Alison Brie in “The Five-Year Engagement” Photo: Universal Pictures Whenever a movie features a very talented cast of actors who are also great comedians, it’s easy to assume that many laughs and bloopers occurred during filming. Take the upcoming romantic comedy “Five-Year Engagement” for example, which boasts the very funny ensemble of writer/actor Jason Segel , Emily Blunt , Alison Brie (“Community”) and Chris Pratt (“Parks and Recreation”) to name a few. When MTV News sat down with the cast to talk about the film recently, we asked how they keep their cool to avoid ruining a scene when a castmember does something particularly amusing. “I have a lot of experience trying not to break on the set of ‘Community’ working with a lot of funny people,” Alison Brie explained. “I consider it a personal challenge when working with Ken Jeong to not break in scenes with him, and he’s ridiculously funny, so I had that under my belt.” Regarding her methods for maintaining a straight face, Brie said, “I just stay in character — professional! Look, I just think of really dark, morbid stuff. I don’t want to tell you; it’s going to make you depressed.” Segel revealed he learned his lesson early in his career: “I’m terrified of breaking, because Judd Apatow screamed at me once when I was very young on ‘Freaks and Geeks.’ I was laughing, and I was young, and looking back, he was just trying to scare me, but he said, ‘Every time you break, it costs me thousands of dollars!’ And since then, I’m terrified of breaking.” Blunt blames “nervous energy” for her on-set laughter. “I laugh at everything,” she shared. “I found myself laughing at my grandfather’s funeral because I had that nervous energy, and you don’t know how to cope. I think the more pressure I’m under from the cast and crew not to laugh, the better I do.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Five-Year Engagement.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Results: Jack Wagner Booted

Former soap star is second celebrity to be eliminated this season. By Kelley L. Carter Jack Wagner on “Dancing With the Stars” Photo: ABC True to reality-TV form, fans had to wait until the final seconds of Tuesday night’s “Dancing With the Stars” to learn which celebrity would be going home in the second round of eliminations on ABC’s big hit. Host Tom Bergeron joked that he hoped they’d be able to name who was heading home before the show ended, given that there were literally only seconds left and three remaining couples. In the end, there was enough time to announce the winner and get a quick soundbite, but unlike Monday night’s emotional performances, there wasn’t enough time for tears. On Tuesday night’s results show, the final two came down to pop singer Gavin DeGraw and his pro partner Karina Smirnoff and former soap star Jack Wagner and his partner Anna Trebunskaya. Wagner and Trebunskaya were given the boot. Wagner kept his cool when his name was called, saying it was an honor to be able to perform this season and share some of his story. “It was a great time, and I had a great time,” he said. “It was fun to kind of test myself. Thanks to the judges. I appreciated it.” The judges told him his performance was his best of the season so far. On Monday night, he scored 24 points out of 30 for his samba in celebration of meeting his 23-year-old long-lost daughter in 2011. Do you agree with Jack Wagner’s elimination? Sound off below!

Angelina Jolie on Oscar Pose Craze, Controversy: I Don’t Even Pay Attention

Angelina Jolie’s Oscar night pose got 10 times the attention of the Best Picture winner, but the actress says she doesn’t even pay attention to that noise. Despite spawning a hilarious photoshop trend (below, right) and even her own Twitter hashtag (#jolieing), she didn’t even realize there was a media craze. In other words, when you’re this cool, you make the news. You don’t read it. The woman with the most revealing, famous right leg in the biz tells the Huffington Post, “I honestly didn’t pay attention to it . You know what I mean?” “I don’t watch the shows and if I go online and see something about myself, I don’t click on it. And the people I surround myself with don’t really talk about that kind of stuff … I did hear something, but I didn’t pay any attention.” “It’s as simple as being a woman, picking out a dress you like and having a good night, and not really thinking about anything else.” Yeah right. More people feel sorry for Kim Kardashian getting flour bombed than believe she posed like that naturally, then didn’t revel in the attention.

Kristen Stewart’s ‘On The Road’ Trailer: Five Keys Scenes

Stewart bids a topless farewell to her days as Bella Swan in the celebrity-studded clip. By Kevin P. Sullivan Kristen Stewart in the “On the Road” trailer Photo: MK2 Productions The trailer for “On the Road,” an adaptation of Jack Kerouac’s seminal beat generation novel, finally hit the Web and brought the cool of 1960s America with it. We saw Kristen Stewart shake it and roll one up. Garrett Hedlund talks about the dumb stuff that he does and can’t explain, and Sam Riley sounds disturbingly like Heath Ledger’s Joker. Here are our five key scenes from the “One the Road” trailer. KStew Rolls Deep This is not the Bella Swan you know. This is Marylou, the 16-year-old, reefer-smoking chick that Dean Moriarty (Hedlund) just married. We’re not sure if there could have been a more striking image to let us know that Kristen Stewart has left Forks, Washington, far behind her. A Breezy Drive Let’s take that last part back for one second. If we needed a clearer image that Stewart is removing the mantle of Bella Swan for her future career, we have what looks like a shot of the actress removing something else in the front seat with Garrett Hedlund and Sam Riley: her top. We’ve seen Stewart with an edge in several of her other films, but for “On the Road,” she seems to be bidding “Twilight” adieu in style. The Freakout As a key work of the beat generation, what would a film adaptation of “On the Road” be without a good old-fashioned drug freak-out dance? Here we see Hedlund tripping out and getting his freak on. It’s rare that we see such a loose Hedlund, and the scene gives a good idea of the kind of shenanigans Dean will be up to.

Florida Seniors Pledge Allegiance To Mitt Romney

Presidential hopeful makes a patriotic stop in Lady Lake, Florida, but not all his supporters were quite as upbeat. By Gil Kaufman Seniors pledge support for Mitt Romney Photo: Emmanuel Dunand/ AFP LADY LAKE, Florida —The citizens of the Villages in Lady Lake, Florida, are used to visits from big politicians. How do I know? Because before Mitt Romney took the stage a day before Tuesday’s Florida primary , we were treated to a Hollywood-style greatest-hits reel spotlighting past visits from former President George W. Bush, Senator John McCain, 2008 presidential candidate Fred Thompson and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. The town square of the Villages was out of central casting for a Steven Spielberg movie, with patriotic bunting hung with care, rows of pimped-out golf carts lining the spaces of Main Street and the smell of hot dogs, elephant ears and popcorn wafting on the cool night breeze. As far as the eye could see, more than 1,000 fit and fired-up seniors mingled and watched the montages on a series of large video screens. A giant “Florida Is Romney Country” banner framed by towering palm trees served as a backdrop to … pretty much the same thing we saw twice earlier in the day. Except this time, we not only sang the national anthem, but we also recited the pledge of allegiance. The feelings of good cheer and patriotic spirit didn’t last long, though. At one point before Romney took the stage, a crowd member interrupted a shoot with MTV’s Andrew Jenks by yelling at him to speak up. I went over to speak to the gentleman, and he asked who we were with, since he’d never heard of MTV and was sure we were mocking him and his neighbors. When I explained that we were traveling with the Romney campaign for the day and covering the election from a youth perspective, he shouted, “He’s with Obama! They’re Obama!” I wasn’t really sure how to react to that, so I shook his hand and wished him well. But I totally should have introduced him to that woman with the “don’t believe the liberal media” sign. You hear a lot about how the candidates give the same stump speech every time, but there are some telling nuances if you really pay attention. At the Villages, Romney mentioned that he watched President Obama’s State of the Union address the other night and that he heard the Obamas had been to Orlando’s Disney World recently. Then, he wondered, was the president living in Fantasy Land? Big cheer. And this time, instead of just reciting his favorite verses of “America the Beautiful,” he asked the crowd to join him in singing it. MTV is on the scene in Florida!
