The pop stars will announce Grammy nominees on Wednesday night’s live CBS special. By Jocelyn Vena Selena Gomez Photo: Toby Canham/ Getty Images LL Cool J will be getting a little help from his friends at the “Grammy Nominations Concert Live” on Wednesday night. CBS has announced that Stevie Wonder and Selena Gomez will be on hand to announce the nominees for the big awards show in 2011. “Selena Gomez & Stevie Wonder headline the presenters for the GRAMMY NOMINATIONS CONCERT LIVE! hosted by LL COOL J on Dec. 1 at 10PM on CBS,” the network tweeted on Monday. The event also will feature performances by a variety of big-name acts, including Justin Bieber, B.o.B, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Miranda Lambert, during the one-hour show that will go down at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards themselves will air live on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 13. The concert special will cap off a very busy year for the performers, especially Bieber and Perry , who recently received platinum certifications for their 2010 album releases. Perry picked up a double-platinum honor for her feel-good single “Teenage Dream,” the title track off her most recent album. Bieber earned his first-ever multiplatinum award, as the artists-rights organization RIAA certified sales of his My World 2.0 album at more than 2 million copies. “Baby,” his team-up with Ludacris, also was certified double platinum. Just last Friday, Bieber released a new album, My Worlds Acoustic , to much fanfare. The collection not only features acoustic versions of hits like “Baby,” but also a brand-new track — the inspirational, “Pray.” Who are you most excited to see at the show on Wednesday night? Ne-Yo Promises ‘Theatrical’ AMA Performance

Singer says four-song set will ‘pretty much tell the full story of [his album] Libra Scale. ‘ By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Matt Elias Ne-Yo Photo: MTV News When Ne-Yo hits the stage at the American Music Awards on Sunday, the singer/songwriter will have some big promises to fulfill. MTV News caught up with the Libra Scale crooner on Friday during the rehearsals for the main event, and he said his upcoming set will be more than just the typical song-and-dance routine. “The performance for the AMAs is gonna be a bit more theatrical than just getting onstage and singing a song and having some dancers back you up,” Ne-Yo said. He added that the performance will incorporate many of the concepts found on his forthcoming effort. “There’s a storyline that flows through the entire album,” he said. “So we’re basically trying to take the story of Libra Scale and summarize it into about four minutes and put it on stage for you.” While he didn’t give up too many details, the songsmith did break down the set list, which includes a spankin’ new track from Libra. “What I will say is that we’re gonna be doing a medley. There’s four songs in total in this whole four-minute performance. We go from ‘Champagne Life’ into ‘One in a Million’ into one of the … newer songs off the album called ‘Telekinesis’ into, of course, ‘Beautiful Monster’ to end it all off,” he said. Ne-Yo also hoped to turn the performance into a sales boost. “Through these four songs we have figured out a way to pretty much tell the full story of Libra Scale ,” he said. “Or leave people just intrigued enough to go get the album when it comes out.” As an AMA vet, Ne-Yo was also looking forward to not only throwing down on stage, but just checking out the star-packed event and enjoying himself. “One of the cool things about the AMAs is the fact that there’s so many different genres crammed into one fantastic night,” he said. “You can get a little bit of R&B, a little bit of hip-hop, a little bit of country. Me being a person that’s very versatile in my musical choices and tastes, this is the perfect show for me. I enjoy coming. This is my … fourth or fifth time and it never gets old. I’m gonna have a good time.” What are you expecting from Ne-Yo’s performance at the AMAs? Let us know in the comments! How Much Is Left? The Earth’s Resources made Interactive

Explore the world's resources and our role in the future with this cool interactive map from Scientific American! “If the 20th century was an expansive era seemingly without boundaries—a time of jet planes, space travel and the Internet—the early years of the 21st have showed us the limits of our small world. Regional blackouts remind us that the flow of energy we used to take for granted may be in tight supply. The once mighty Colorado River, tapped by thirsty metropolises of the desert West, no longer reaches the ocean. Oil is so hard to find that new wells extend many kilometers underneath the seafloor. The boundless atmosphere is now reeling from two centuries’ worth of greenhouse gas emissions. Even life itself seems to be running out, as biologists warn that we are in the midst of a global extinction event comparable to the last throes of the dinosaurs. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=interactive-how-much-is-left added by: DeliaTheArtist

IS GOVT SEIZING CONTROL?

Look at various aspects of American life and asks a simple question: Who is in control? The individual or the government? Where liberals have already had their way, government is in control. Where liberals are still moving to advance their agenda, their success would mean an increase in government intrusion into the lives of individuals. As they attempt to move the country on a trajectory toward greater government control of our lives, liberals are also pushing the country away from two great constants consistently advocated by the Founding Fathers: the principles of limited government chartered in the Constitution and the natural moral law enshrined in the Declaration of Independence. The greatest fiscal danger the nation faces as a result of the liberal agenda is the coming crisis of the welfare state. According to the Peter G. Peterson Foundation's analysis of Treasury Department figures, the federal government now faces $61.9 trillion in unfunded liabilities. That astounding number is comprised of the federal debt plus the cost of entitlements — such as Medicare and Social Security benefits — promised to people now alive that is not covered by the revenue the current tax structure is expected to yield. This $61.9 trillion in unfunded liabilities, by the way, equals $200,000 for every man, woman and child in the United States — not counting embryos. Where is the government going to find that kind of cash? The Control Freaks know where to look for it: Wherever you put your money. added by: ahiguy

Naked fist fight shocks cafe patrons…FANNIE BAY, NT, AUSTRALIA

A WOMAN stripped off naked in front of dozens of people having breakfast at a popular Darwin restaurant yesterday. Witnesses said the woman took off all her clothes after she and another woman had a full-on fist fight over a man, reported the Northern Territory News. “That was just a shocker,” eyewitness Fernando Dentes, 34, said. “People were trying to eat.” Police said a 39-year-old woman had to be picked up from the median strip on Dick Ward Drive after she bared all in front of the Cool Spot Cafe in Fannie Bay. Patrons were reportedly unimpressed. Children were rushed inside the venue and police were called to escort the naked woman away. The woman was lying naked on the ground smoking a cigarette in full view of customers at the restaurant. Three uniformed officers, in a paddy wagon and a sedan, arrived at the scene before giving the woman an on-the-spot fine and taking her to her home to Moulden, in Palmerston. It is unclear whether she was drunk. Mr Dentes, who was the shift manager at the restaurant at the time, said that staff had alerted police after customers complained about the striptease. “The two ladies were arguing about the fella they were there with,” he said. “It was pretty verbal. One had the other on the ground,” he said. “She was pretty much just defending herself and then she was lifting up her shirt and showing her breasts. “She took off her clothes and then she walked to the median strip lid a cigarette and laid down. added by: eden49

Watch Out For Kesha: The Face of Baby G

Her songs are catchy – will her products catch on too? Rising music star Ke$ha is now the brand ambassador for the Baby-G women’s Casio watches. Appropriate, you could say, for the singer of “Tik Tok.” Yesterday, the dollar-signed one even made a special appearance at The Manhattan Center for the Casio press conference and to reveal her latest ad . Given previous Ke$ha pictures we’ve seen, we half expected the campaign to feature her looking unkempt and mostly unclothed. What a surprise! Now if only they could improve her ability to sing live the way they can touch up a pic with Photoshop, Ke$ha would be ready for world domination … TOUGH AND COOL : Ke$ha is both. And hopefully punctual .

‘American Idol’ Lowered Age Limit To Find The ‘Great Ones,’ Judges Say

‘You’re seeing stars like Justin Bieber, a lot of younger artists do it,’ Randy Jackson tells MTV News of expanding eligibility to age 15. By James Montgomery Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson at the Do Something Awards on Monday Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images It may seem like the ninth season of “American Idol” just wrapped (probably because it did ), but production has already started on the 10th season, with auditions getting under way in Nashville last week. So when MTV News caught up with “Idol” judges Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi Monday night on the red carpet of VH1’s Do Something! Awards in Los Angeles, we asked them how season 10 was shaping up. How did they think producers’ decision to lower the minimum “Idol” age requirement to 15 (from 16 years old) would impact the search for the next pop superstar? “I think different people will show up this time,” Jackson said. “You’re seeing stars like Justin Bieber, a lot of younger artists do it , you know? So you want to take advantage of that … there’s a lot of kids that are getting better earlier. It’s great.” While critics of the show argue the lowered age requirement is just a way to exploit the current popularity of teen phenoms like the Biebs, DioGuardi pointed out that young superstars have been helping to keep the industry’s engine running for decades now, adding that “Idol” won’t just be searching for a Bieber clone. “I mean, take LeAnn Rimes, at a very young age she was singing very deep country songs, and she had that old soul and it worked,” she said. “It could be a kid who’s really young, who didn’t even know he was that talented, or it could be someone that’s a little bit older that, for whatever reason, it hasn’t worked out yet. That’s what’s exciting about the show: It’s about that dream and helping people realize it.” Both Jackson and DioGuardi said that “Idol” had been mulling a modification in the age restrictions — by season four, eligibility was expanded to a maximum age of 28 — for a few years now, but concerns about whether younger singers could handle the big stage had kept them from pulling the trigger. But after witnessing the meteoric rise of Bieber (and a host of other young stars), they decided it was time to make the change. And both judges say the Fox show will be better for it. “Yeah, we thought about it for a minute, but when you’re seeing the success of so many young kids today, that are so talented, it’s about finding those great ones,” Jackson told us. “I’m very excited” DioGuardi added about the new age limit. “That’s what I love about the show — you never know what you’re going to come across.” Are you glad “Idol” is expanding its eligibility to include 15 year olds? What do you think the age requirement should be? Tell us in the comments! Get your “Idol” fix on MTV News’ “American Idol” page , where you’ll find all the latest news, interviews and opinions. Drake Gets ‘Fancy’ With T.I. And Swizz Beatz On Video Set

‘It’s a dedication to the ladies who take pride in being the flyest and finest,’ Tip tells MTV News of the clip. By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by James “FLX” Smith Drake Photo: MTV News Drake’s upcoming “Fancy” video features a couple of stars known for cranking out hard-hitting hip-hop, but this time, the Toronto MC enlisted T.I. and Swizz Beatz to craft a sexy ode to the ladies. “It’s a dedication to the ladies who take pride in being the flyest and finest that there are out there to be noticed,” T.I. told MTV News on the set of the sleek clip, which reflects the song’s sultry vibe. The video features Drizzy, Tip and Swizz in all-black everything, spitting suave lyrics and flanked by leggy dancers in formfitting bodysuits. In his cool Atlanta drawl, T.I. chatted about participating in the collabo and sang the praises of Drake and Swizzy. “I was offered the opportunity and given the pleasure to be a part of this monstrosity of a record by young Drizzy and my big homie O.G., player, partner Swizz Bizzy,” Tip said. “I’m honored, privileged and absolutely pleased to be a part of this extravaganza that you are witnessing before you here today.” Anthony Mandler, who has helmed all the clips from Drizzy’s Thank Me Later, said the singer/MC’s approach to his work influences how the director develops the accompanying visuals. “For me, there’s a lot of pressure, because I feel like he’s creating music from a place that’s so pure and so unique and so original that it pushes me to try to create imagery that stands in the same zone,” Mandler said. Drake also lavished Mandler with respect and said his work with the director has changed his perspective when it comes to making videos. “As far as me evolving as a visual artist, I started in a place where visuals weren’t my strongest aspect. Me and Anthony shot ‘Over’ together, and for the first time, I really felt like, ‘This is how I’m supposed to look,’ ” Drake said. “From there, it’s sorta been like an inseparable bond.” Are you looking forward to the “Fancy” video? There is Absolutely NOTHING "Ethical" About Animal Slaughter – NOTHING!

PART ONE OF A DISGUSTING TRUE STORY… http://eatocracy.cnn.com/2010/07/12/a-day-two-pigs-would-die/#comment-10519 July 12th, 2010 12:30 AM ET A day two pigs would die: ethical slaughter There's no pretty way to say this. I was present for the death of the pig pictured above. It was a grim, sodden day on an upstate New York farm. A local meat sciences professor named Eric explained to the pig's owners that the most humane method of slaughter was to shoot it at close range between the eyes with a .22 rifle – a stunning blow to knock its central nervous system offline – then slit the main artery so the blood loss would bring about swift, arguably less painful death. The blow would also supposedly reduce the stress on the animal, allowing for better meat quality. The farmers, having researched the matter thoroughly and consulted with the Humane Animal Farm Care project, believed this to be true. Still, as they stood several yards from the slaughter, half sheltered in the doorway to their goat barn, they flinched at the stark crack of the rifle, and then they cried. They can certainly be excused for that. This was their first slaughter – mine, too – and it's a shocking act. As the farmers' friend and neighbor, I'd met Porky and Bess (the first death was followed swiftly by a second) only a handful of times, tossing cucumbers and corncobs from the farm's vegetable garden into the lopped-off silo in which they were penned. They were affable, loud as all get out and smelled to hell and back. It was always a bit bittersweet to check in on them, marking their maturation from wee piglets into fully grown hogs, knowing that that someday soon, they'd be dispatched and turned into food. For as charming and vibrant as they are, it is simply impractical to keep pigs as pets on a farm. They don't produce milk like the farm's dozens of goats, can’t be sheared for wool like their sheep, don’t lay eggs, herd, chase vermin or scare away predators. They're simply not useful, from a strictly practical standpoint, so to buy and raise a piglet is a commitment to turning it into food. That doesn't make the act of their slaughter any easier to watch. Josh Kilmer Purcell and Brent Ridge, the pigs' owners, are fledgling farmers and yes, they have a reality show about it – Planet Green's 'The Fabulous Beekman Boys' – but they are by no means unserious when it comes to the welfare of the animals they raise. The vast majority of the Beekman Farm's livestock, over 120 goats at last count, along with chickens, a turkey or two and a llama who earns her keep as comic relief are housed in a clean, spacious barn. They are tended to, most affectionately, by Farmer John, who knows the name of every single animal on the premises. He, along with help from Brent (who lives there full time) and Josh (who commutes back and forth between Manhattan and Sharon Springs, New York) feeds them, cleans the barn, grooms them when needed (a llama's coat can get terribly matted) and harvests the goat milk that's used to make the Beekman 1802 soap and Beekman Blaak cheese that, in addition to Josh's salary as an advertising creative director, sustains the farm. Walk into the barn, and roughly 120 heads crane in your direction and acknowledge your presence with a friendy baa. It's a really warm, friendly place to be. The pigs' sunken silo was like that, too. Porky and Bess would caper around the perimeter, accepting offerings of whole vegetables, wallowing in the mud, luxuriating in the sun or nestling together in the cool of the shade.
