Miley Cyrus has undergone an extreme makeover, and she’s received some extreme backlash in response. Not long after the singer debuted a radically short haircut on Twitter, fans and celebrities alike shared their opinion on the light locks, many of them negative. Tyler the Creator, for example, Tweeted to Miley “Your barber is an a**hole.” He later deleted the message. But Miley is taking the criticism very much in stride, writing this afternoon. “My dad Billy Ray Cyrus used to tell me, ‘opinions are are like a**holes –everybody has one.’ LOVE my hair. Feel so happy, pretty, and free.” We’re actually on Miley’s side on this one. All the way. Way to stand tall and proud of who you are! As for anyone who can’t keep his/her opinions to themselves? Cyrus is maintaining a single reaction to these haters of her hair: “Giving face all day.” We’re not sure what that means. But what do you think of Miley’s new ‘do?

Following the release of his hip-hop-heavy Believe, MTV News looks at the young pop star’s swaggiest moments. By Rob Markman, with additional reporting by Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: You’d think a 1995 collaboration between the King of Pop, Michael Jackson and rap’s widely recognized G.O.A.T., the Notorious B.I.G., would have made a bigger wave, but when MJ released “This Time Around” with Biggie Smalls 17 years ago, mixing pop with hip-hop was still very taboo. Despite the top billing, the track hit with a relative thud. The truth is it just didn’t feel organic, it’s not like Mike grew up listening to rap in Gary, Indiana, in the 1960s, the art form as we know it today just didn’t exist. Justin Bieber was a 1-year old when the King of Pop snagged the King of Hip-Hop for a feature. And unlike Jackson, he grew up during an era when rap stars like Biggie, Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur were just as big as their pop counterparts — sometimes bigger. That’s why Bieber mixes hip-hop so seamlessly on his new album Believe. “One, I think they know it’s authentic and two, you got to remember Justin’s past,” JB’s manager Scooter Braun told MTV News. “I was the vice president of So So Def Records and then I left and Justin was the second artist I found after Asher Roth. So here’s this 13-year-old living in Atlanta, no one knows who he is, and he’s just riding around with me and we’re in the studio with Ludacris. We’re in the studio with T.I. We’re in the studio with Big Boi from OutKast, hanging out and he got exposed to that really early.” Ludacris, Drake, Big Sean and Nicki Minaj all appear on the 13-track Believe, but JB’s hip-hop jones didn’t develop overnight. It’s been years in the making. MTV News takes a look back at seven of Justin’s defining hip-hop moments. “Baby” featuring Ludacris JB didn’t have much rapper swag when he dropped “Baby” with Ludacris at the top of 2010, but the track sounded good, especially when Luda dropped his rapid-fire bars over the feel-good track. When he performed a remixed version of the track with fellow Canadian Drake at the 2010 Juno Awards, Justin further proved that he can rock with rap’s finest. “We Are the World 25 For Haiti” After the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010, Quincy Jones assembled an all-star cast of musicians like Kanye West, Usher, Janet Jackson and Justin Bieber to remake the 1985 classic. During the recording, the Biebs got to kick it with notable MCs like Lil Wayne, Busta Rhymes and his long-time friend Nipsey Hussle. “Runaway Love” Remix Featuring Kanye West and Raekwon Justin Biebs proved he “ain’t nothing to f— with” in August 2010 when he linked up with Kanye West and Raekwon for his “Runaway Love” remix. The Chef and Yeezy rapped on the track which sampled Wu-Tang Clan’s dusty underground favorite “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F— Wit.” JB and Nicki Sitting In A Tree So what do Nas and Justin Bieber Have in common? OK, kissing Nicki Minaj on the cheek at the 2010 Video Music Awards doesn’t really give Justin that much rap cred, the voluptuous Nicki could sing country music and we would’ve been just as jealous. “Speaking in Tongues” Freestyle Let’s face it, if you plan on spitting rap bars, the name Justin Bieber just isn’t going to cut it. Enter Shawty Mane: JB’s swagged-out alter-ego. Back in October 2010, Justin showed that singing wasn’t his only talent when he rapped over Vado and Cam’ron’s “Speaking in Tongues.” The freestyles didn’t stop there; Shawty Mane also spit bars over the Throne’s “Otis,” Gang Starr’s “DWYCK” and the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Who Shot Ya?” The Biebs Shuts Up Tyler, the Creator It takes a lot to quiet Odd Future’s resident loud mouth Tyler, the Creator, but when he and JB met in February 2011, the multiplatinum pop star didn’t let Wolf Haley get a word in edge wise. “When I got in there, he was talkin’ about the ‘Yonkers’ video and sh–. It was weird, because I was sitting here starstruck, like, ‘Oh, f—, it’s Bieber. He’s asking me questions.’ I’m like, ‘Shut the f— up so I can talk to you,’ ” Tyler told MTV News. Lil Swaggy Is Born Not only did 2 Chainz bless JB with a killer verse for his “Girlfriend” remix, the ATL hit-maker also blessed Bieber with a new moniker. “I call him Lil Swaggy,” 2 Chainz told MTV News. Sounds like a winner to us. Related Videos ‘Bieber Live’ Related Artists Justin Bieber

Setting facts straight Various sources have reported that Bobbi Kristina has walked off her new TV show , For Better or Worse. But, Mighty Madea has come forward to dispel the rumors. Via TMZ reports : Tyler Perry is calling BS on reports Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina walked off the set of his TV show “For Better Or Worse” — claiming the rumors are “not true at all.” Bobbi Kristina has a small recurring role on the show — but reports have been circulating she called it quits before wrapping the season, storming off the set in tears. Now Tyler — the creator of the show — has taken to his website to dispel the rumors, writing, “There is no way that she could have walked off the set because we have finished taping the season.” Tyler writes, “Were there tough days for her? Yes of course. Not because of the acting or any job-related issues but because of the fact that she had just lost her mother.” He adds, “So yes she was grieving, but grief aside, she managed to finish her obligation and did a great job at the same time.” Good to see Bobbi is standing strong! However, do you think it might be too early for her to be back in the public spotlight while she’s still mourning her mother’s death?

‘I want to give you that same impact that I had when I put that record out,’ Pete Rock says about ‘Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free).’ By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Pete Rock Photo: MTV News Pete Rock and CL Smooth ‘s “They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)” is an iconic, classic and unforgettable track that hip-hop fans across the world hold near and dear. But as special as the 1992 track is to the listener, it means even more to the creator, who originally made the track in dedication to his fallen friend Troy “Trouble T Roy” Dixon. So when producer Pete Rock first heard Lupe Fiasco ‘s remake, “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free),” on the radio last week, he was quite upset. “At that point, my emotions were working — I’m still thinking about Heavy D and Troy is a dear friend to me, and my emotions got the best of me, and I expressed myself on Twitter,” Pete Rock told MTV News correspondent Sway Calloway on Tuesday, a week after Lupe released his single. Dixon, a former member of the hip-hop group Heavy D & the Boyz, passed away in 1990 after an accidental fall while he was out on tour. Two years later, Pete Rock and his partner CL Smooth released “T.R.O.Y.” to pay homage. The song took on even greater meaning for Rock after Heavy D, his cousin, passed away in November 2011. The Soul Brother said he was approached by Lupe’s label and management to use his classic beat for their new track. Rock agreed, under the one condition: that he was involved in the recording process. “I thought from that point I would be involved with Lupe and being in the studio, tweaking the beat, but I never heard from the record label, and then I turn on the radio, and hear it on the radio,” Rock explained. Instead of involving Pete Rock, Lupe and his team re-created the beat from the original 1967 Tom Scott sample from which “T.R.O.Y.” was crafted. “No disrespect to lupe fiasco and i like him alot but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made Outta anguish and pain. When it’s like that it should not be touched by no one,” Rock tweeted after hearing the track. “I’m not flattered @ all. Dat sh– is wack, and the producer should be ashamed of his f—in self. Smh.” The two soon got on the phone, and their respective differences were thought to be solved. “I just got off da phone with lupe, we worked out our difference and we bout to get it in,” Pete tweeted May 23. “Gonna be epic and we gonna give Troy and hev the proper respect they deserve and make history.” The very next day, an irate Lupe phoned into the “Sway in the Morning” radio show and blasted Pete Rock for what he said was a premature tweet. “He wasn’t supposed to say that,” Lupe said in response to Pete’s tweet about plans to collaborate, which has now been deleted from his account. “He was supposed to say the same sh– he said on the phone: ‘Yo, man, it was my bad, that was wack, it was f—ed up for me to say that, it was disrespectful, I was 100 percent in the wrong, I apologize.’ That’s what he was supposed to say.” The two artists clearly have different views, but Pete contends that his aim was to make peace. “When he called, he was upset, and I just tried to talk him through that and say, ‘Look, man, at the end of the day, let’s just fix this thing,’ ” Rock explained to MTV News. “My whole goal was to just squash this thing, fix the music and just move on.” Pete said he’s still a Fiasco fan — naming “Paris, Tokyo” and “Kick, Push” as two of his favorite songs — but he also stands by his original condition: If anyone is to remake “T.R.O.Y.,” he wants to be involved. “If you’re using my track, I want to give you that same impact that I had when I put that record out,” he said. “They Reminisce Over You” has already been redone several times — on mixtapes as well as commercially released albums. Rock said he can’t control the unauthorized mixtape versions, but he would like to be a part of all official remakes, as he was on Mary J. Blige’s 1993 What’s the 411? Remix album. “The Mary J. Blige remix was dope because she involved us and she put CL Smooth on her remix,” he said. What do you think about Lupe Fiasco’s “Around My Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)”? Sound off below! The premise of Chernobyl Diaries , in which a group of twentysomething tourists are menaced by malevolent beings while paying a visit to Pripyat, the abandoned Ukrainian town that used to house workers at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, has been described by some as uncomfortably exploitative of a real-life tragedy. But real-life tragedies bleed through into horror cinema all the time — the genre is frequently a reflection of subconscious dread and anxiety, from the nuclear detonation-born Godzilla menacing a Japan less than a decade after the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to the monster that attacked New York in Cloverfield , 54 years later, in a wash of imagery reminiscent of 9/11. The problem with Chernobyl Diaries isn’t that it’s offensive, it’s that it’s dumb — a run-of-the-mill low-budget flick focused on killing off stupid, pretty young things slowly enough to fill out 90 minutes. Directed by Bradley Parker, who worked as a visual effects supervisor on Let Me In , Chernobyl Diaries is produced and based on a story by Oren Peli, the creator of the Paranormal Activity franchise and ABC series The River . With the exception of an intro and a clip found on a camera explaining what happened to two of the characters, it isn’t part of the found-footage subgenre Peli has made his own, though sometimes it could use the excuse — the film has loose, jerky camerawork that sometimes seems meant to evoke something shot by a panicky observer, though the effect is more likely a practical one meant to obscure the baddies from full view. The monsters are mutants twisted by radiation, as far as we’re told, and it’s for the better that we don’t ever get a good look at them. They lurk in the darkness, outlined in doorways and briefly illumined in flashlight beams, and they’re creepy enough to seem worthy of the film’s greatest effect, its setting. Composed of abandoned brutalist tower blocks and industrial areas, the film’s version of Pripyat (it wasn’t shot there, though you can indeed take a tour of the actual town these days) is ghostly, all remnants of abruptly abandoned lives and packs of wild dogs roaming the streets. “Nature has reclaimed its rightful home,” tour guide Uri (Dimitri Diatchenko) intones to his customers, but there’s no sense of renewal, only of a place burnt out and forever warped. Uri is the best of the batch of Pripyat wanderers, a solid former special forces soldier turned extreme-tourism business owner. Diatchenko conveys the reassuring professionalism needed to convince visitors of his trustworthiness while also making it clear that his gig is a little sketchy. But the tourists themselves are just awful mutant-fodder. There’s the primary four Americans, brothers Chris (Jesse McCartney) and Paul (Jonathan Sadowski) along with Natalie (Olivia Dudley) and Amanda (Devin Kelley), plus Australian backpacker Michael (Nathan Phillips) and his Scandinavian girlfriend Zoe (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal). They have their sibling and romantic tensions, which aren’t really worth describing — all you need to know is that these are the type of characters who always go into the darkest, scariest room because they need to see what’s there, who split up and who stop to bicker or indulge in a freak-out instead of running away as any sane person would. They are, in other words, the interchangeable, irrational characters who invariably populate horror movies, the kind so cleverly mocked in Cabin in the Woods , and despite the specificity of Chernobyl Diaries ‘ setting, it is really just another generic horror movie reliant on jump scares and ridiculous behavior to carry the action through to the end. The only noteworthy aspect of the film’s three travelers and one dedicated expat is that they aren’t especially ugly Americans. They’re entitled and rude at times, sure, but there’s not the sense of panicked paranoia that fed the likes of Hostel and Turistas , that feeling that everyone in the rest of the world secretly does want to kill us. In Chernobyl Diaries , the only sentiment that lingers is one of grinding practicality — that the film is set in Eastern Europe not because it has any larger point to make about the area or the tragedy it uses as a jumping-off point, but simply because it’s so affordable to shoot movies there.
