NCIS Promotes Emily Wickersham as Ziva’s Successor

Emily Wickersham is joining the cast of NCIS as a series regular starting November 19, when she debuts as Ziva’s successor, Eleanor “Ellie” Bishop. The actress was originally slated to appear in three episodes, with the possibility of being upped to regular status as a full-time replacement for Cote de Pablo. Producers confirmed today, however, that Wickersham was promoted to NCIS series regular – even before her new character has even been introduced. “[Emily Wickersham] is proving to perfectly compliment the NCIS team,” said show-runner Gary Glasberg. ”Her energy and enthusiasm is contagious.” “Great things are planned for Bishop and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her,” he added, noting that his intention was never to “replace” Ziva David. While she will undoubtedly be considered Ziva’s successor because of the circumstances, she will be developed into a notable character in her own right. Calling her “unique and quirky and fun,” Glasberg said, “hopefully people embrace her and feel like she is a new element to this group and a new part of moving it forward.” Wickersham, whose first episode airs Tuesday, November 19, fills an empty series regular spot vacated by Cote de Pablo’s exit on NCIS Season 11 Episode 2 . CBS calls Bishop “a mysterious mixture of analytic brilliance, fierce determination and idealism who specializes in international threat assessment.” She’ll be introduced when the SecNav is bugged in a security breach that it turns out “Bishop described in exact detail two years ago in a threat analysis report.” “Working side-by-side with Gibbs and the team,” the press release states, “Bishop cross-examines the case file to help determine who is behind the crime.” Are you excited for her debut on NCIS?

Madeleine McCann Case Reopened, New Evidence Cited

The case of missing British toddler Madeleine McCann has been reopened six years after she disappeared, thanks to new evidence cited by investigators. Madeleine McCann Case Reopened McCann vanished from her hotel room during family vacation in Portugal. Police in that country effectively gave up trying to find her five years ago. Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, had long campaigned from their home in central England for the Portuguese investigation to resume . In a statement Thursday, they said they were “very pleased.” “We hope that this will finally lead to (Madeleine) being found and to the discovery of whoever is responsible for this crime,” Kate and Gerry McCann said. Madeleine went missing just before her fourth birthday. The couple, both doctors, continue to care for Madeleine’s younger siblings, twins Sean and Amelie. McCann’s disappearance sparked global interest. In a stunning twist, Portuguese police briefly considered the parents suspects before they were cleared. Portuguese police closed the case in 2008, having detected no crime. However, a team of detectives from Porto, in northern Portugal, began reviewing evidence in 2011. They had not been involved in the original investigation. The public prosecutor’s office in Lisbon said it decided to reopen the investigation after new leads emerged during the case review. It did not elaborate. The case is subject to Portugal’s judicial secrecy law. British police, meanwhile, launched Operation Grange in 2011 to try to find out what happened to Madeleine and have also “identified new avenues.” They say both the timeline and the version of events surrounding the girl’s disappearance have changed significantly as new information has emerged. British detectives say it’s possible that Madeleine is still alive, and released a computer-generated image of a person they were interested in questioning. It’s an encouraging sign. We continue to hope for her safe return, along with that of Lisa Irwin and so many others who have been tragically abducted.

Drugs Are Bad M’Kay: Mexican Drug Lord Gunned Down By Clown Assassins At Kid’s Birthday Party

Eff a drug dealin’ thug ! Karma finally caught up to this guy in the form of some costumed clown thugs. Via NY Post reports : Gunmen dressed as clowns have shot dead one of Mexico’s most powerful former drug lords while he was attending a children’s party. Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix, 63, was at the party during family celebrations in Cabo San Lucas, a major tourist resort in the Baja California peninsula of Mexico, AP reports. Gunmen dressed in costumes which included a wig and a round red nose entered the party which was being held in the luxurious Casa Oceano tourist area. Arellano Felix was hit at point blank range “by two bullets, one in the thorax and one in the head,” state special investigations prosecutor Isai Arias told AP. The “clowns” then fled the crime scene and a massive police operation failed to find them. Farncisco Rafael was the oldest of seven Arellano Felix brothers, who once dominated drug trafficking between Mexico and California through their brutal cartel, inspiring characters in the Steven Soderbergh film, “Traffic.” The Tijuana cartel was one of Mexico’s three largest drug outfits, but most of the brothers have been either killed or arrested, leaving rival groups to take over the trade. The cartel made headlines in 2006, when it was discovered they had dug trafficking tunnels from Tijuana through to California. Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix was arrested in 1980 in San Diego, California, for selling drugs and returned to Mexico upon his release on bail. In 1993, he was arrested in Mexico and jailed on drug charges. He was extradited to the United States in 2006 and was sentenced to six years in prison after confessing to selling drugs to an undercover agent. He was released in 2008, winning time off his sentence for good behavior, and repatriated to Mexico, according to his attorney at the time. Police killed another brother, Ramon, in a shootout in 2002. Three other brothers are in US prisons, including Eduardo, who was sentenced to 15 years by a California court in August for money laundering. Security experts believe the cartel is now run by the brothers’ sister Enedina and her son Fernando, known as “The Engineer.” SMH. This isn’t helping clowns much with their already shady reps. Can you imagine getting murked at a kids birthday party? Guess you never know when you gonna go for real when you are in that line of business. Handout/ Shutterstock

Arrests: Escaped Florida Inmates Who Were “Mistakenly Freed” Captured In Panama City Hotel

Escaped Florida Inmates Arrested In Panama City Hotel Charles Walker and Joseph Jenkins are back in the bingski… Via CNN: Florida authorities on Saturday evening arrested two convicted murderers who had been on the lam after being released from prison with forged documents, a state agency said. Charles Walker and Joseph Jenkins were taken into custody “without incident” at 6:40 p.m. at Panama City’s Coconut Grove Motor Inn, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement said. Members of that agency and the U.S. Marshals Service found and detained the two men, the agency said. Walker and Jenkins are expected to appear in court Sunday morning at the Bay County Courthouse in Panama City. The state Department of Corrections — which mistakenly released the men though it has insisted through no fault of its own — said little about the arrests. “We are, of course, happy they have been taken into custody,” agency spokeswoman Jessica Carey said. Authorities have been searching for Walker and Jenkins, both 34, after investigators discovered forged motions to reduce their respective sentences and forged court orders granting the requests. Earlier Saturday, family members of both men appealed for them to turn themselves in to authorities. “We just want you to surrender yourself to someone you trust who will bring you back in safely,” Walker’s mother, Lillie Danzy, said at a news conference outside the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in Orlando. Jenkins’ uncle, Henry Pearson, also urged the men to give their families some peace. Both families denied any knowledge in the escape plan, telling investigators and reporters they first learned of the releases in telephone calls from the Franklin Correctional Institution with news they could pick up their family member. The two men, according to family members, disappeared shortly after their return. In September 1998, Jenkins killed Roscoe Pugh Jr. during a home-invasion robbery attempt. Six months later, Cedric Slater was gunned down on an Orlando street corner — shot dead, a jury determined, by Walker. Both killers were convicted and sentenced to life behind bars without the possibility of parole within two years of their crime. While it’s not known whether they knew each other, they were at the same prison in North Carrabelle in Florida’s Panhandle. Jenkins left there on September 27, and Walker left on October 8, according to authorities. They had motions indicating the sentences had been reduced as well as court orders granting the request. Investigators later discovered these documents were forged. The legal-looking documents contained bogus reproductions of several key players’ signatures, including those of the Orlando-area State Attorney Jeffrey Ashton or the assistant state attorney and Judge Belvin Perry. They bore the seal of the Orange County clerk of court’s office. SMH. CNN/Bay County Sheriff Continue reading

You Gon’ Learn Today: Former HS Student Facing Life In Prison After Attempting To Force Sex On Teacher As A “Prank”

High School Student Facing Life In Prison For Rape Prank On Teacher A High school student who tied up his teacher and attempted to force her into a car with a knife during what he called a “senior prank,”could be sentenced to life in prison as a result. via Mercury News A former Redwood City high school student faces a maximum of life in prison after being convicted of the attempted rape and kidnapping of a teacher which he testified was a prank intended just to scare her. The jury deliberated just 90 minutes Wednesday before returning guilty verdicts an all charges against David Velasquez, 21, including kidnapping with the intent to commit r*pe. The convictions carry a possible life sentence for the ex-Summit Preparatory Charter High School student, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. In nearly emotionless testimony Velasquez told how he hid between some garbage cans in the school parking garage in January 2012 and then “popped out” behind the teacher. After grabbing her with one arm and pointing a knife he held in his other hand at her side, he ordered her to her car parked 80 feet away. The attack ended when another teacher happened upon the crime and screamed. “This is what they call a senior prank,” Velasquez said while under questioning from Deputy District Attorney Tricia Povah. “I decided to do one.” The evening of the attack Velasquez testified he put on sunglasses, a stocking cap, covered his face with a scarf and changed his shirt before crouching between some plastic garbage cans in the parking garage. When the teacher emerged from the school he said he jumped out behind her, prompting her to laugh at first. Velasquez said the “prank” was supposed to be end with him pushing the teacher into her car and slamming the door. Really?? “It was a prank” is the BEST he could do on trial for his life? SMH.
