Officer reassigned after punching incident caught on camera.

1:00pm (central time) (CNN) — A Seattle police officer who was recorded on a cell phone camera punching an alleged jaywalker in the face has been temporarily reassigned, a department spokesman said Wednesday. Ian Walsh has been taken off patrol duty and placed in a training unit to review police tactics, Detective Mark Jamieson said. Walsh, who joined the force in November 2007, has not been disciplined in the Monday incident, which remains under investigation, Jamieson said. The event has been referred to the police's Office of Professional Accountability for review, he said. According to a police statement, Walsh was on patrol and in uniform Monday afternoon when he stopped a young man for jaywalking. While interacting with the man, Walsh observed four women jaywalking at the same location and ordered them to step over to his cruiser, police said. The department described the women as being “verbally antagonistic toward the officer.” One of the women began to walk away and appeared to raise her hand in a dismissive gesture after being ordered to step over to the car, police said. Walsh escorted the woman back to the cruiser, but she then started to yell at him and pull away, “breaking free of the officer's grip several times,” police said. When the officer tried to handcuff the woman, another woman placed her hands on the officer's arm, police said. “The officer pushed the second subject back, but she again came at the officer, at which time he punched her,” police said. The 19-year-old woman who allegedly grabbed Walsh's arm was booked for investigation of assault on an officer, police said. The other woman, who police said was 17, was booked for obstructing an officer. Both suspects were also cited for jaywalking. http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/06/16/police.jaywalker/?hpt=Sbin added by: AceMF

On Same Day, NYT Downplays Etheridge Incident, Runs Long Report on 3 Year-Old Alleged Meg Whitman Shove

If the folks at the New York Times had any sense of shame, they would feel foolish today. A review of the Times’s June 15 print edition index and review of the related articles indicates that the paper’s editors: Gave reporter Jeff Zeleny about 330 words on Page A21 to recycle a Caucus Blog post softly covering the video-recorded arguable assault North Carolina Congressman Bob Etheridge committed against a questioner on a public street ” last week ,” and which came to public light early Monday morning. The vague print edition headline (per the index ): “Congressman Apologizes After Tussle.” Devoted almost 1,000 words on Page A15 to a story about a three year-old alleged shoving incident involving California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman that “no one else appears to have witnessed.” Yet the headline gives the impression that the facts are not in dispute: “Settlement Was Paid in Whitman Shoving Incident.” What explains the disparate treatment? I suppose one could argue that the actions of a sitting congressman aren’t as important as those of someone who wants to be (but isn’t yet) chief executive of the nation’s most populous state. Nice try, but I’m not sold. Etheridge is a Democrat. It is still an open question as to whether the incident with which he was involved will become a criminal matter. There’s certainly no lack of evidence. All of this makes it a still-breaking and still-developing story worthy of far more attention than the Times gave it. Whitman is a Republican. In addition to noting that the incident involved has no identified witnesses, The Times report specifically tells us that the matter was settled through mediation, and that “the authorities were not involved.” Former eBay CEO Whitman has no criminal exposure. The report is a gratuitous, politically-motivated dredge-up of a long-forgotten matter. The Times’s Brad Stone and likely other reporters clearly put many hours of work into the Whitman report. In the process, he or they encouraged and ultimately convinced eBay employees to breach ethics and to violate confidentiality agreements. The incident’s alleged victim still works at eBay and has clearly moved on: In June 2007, an eBay employee claimed that Ms. Whitman became angry and forcefully pushed her in an executive conference room at eBay’s headquarters, according to multiple former eBay employees with knowledge of the incident. They spoke on the condition of anonymity because the matter was delicate and was deemed to be strictly confidential. The employee, Young Mi Kim, was preparing Ms. Whitman for a news media interview that day. Ms. Kim, who was not injured in the incident, hired a lawyer and threatened a lawsuit, but the dispute was resolved under the supervision of a private mediator. Two of the former employees said the company paid a six-figure financial settlement to Ms. Kim, which one of them characterized as “around $200,000.” An agreement to keep the matter confidential was also part of the settlement, and the authorities were not involved. Ms. Whitman was counseled in the matter, the former eBay employees said, by the company’s human resources lawyers and by Henry Gomez, then president of the Skype unit at eBay and now a senior adviser to Ms. Whitman’s campaign. Ms. Kim still works at eBay and is now a senior manager for corporate and executive communications. … When reached by telephone on Monday, Ms. Kim said the issue was a “private matter” and declined to comment. Later, in an e-mail message, Ms. Kim said she and Ms. Whitman had overcome their differences. “Yes, we had an unfortunate incident, but we resolved it in a way that speaks well for her and for eBay,” Ms. Kim said. “And ultimately, I came back to the company, which is not something I had to do.” The Whitman campaign issued a statement signed by Ms. Whitman that described Ms. Kim as a “respected colleague and valuable asset to the company.” The Etheridge incident could yet result in criminal charges, and could affect the Congressman’s ability to continue in office. Absent criminal charges, it could at least subject him to some form of discipline from House leadership (well, let’s say it should, but given who’s in charge, whether anything negative will occur is highly doubtful). By contrast, exactly how is the years-old alleged Whitman incident relevant to the California governor’s race? The wildly different treatment of the two incidents — one drop-dead obvious, the other a “she said, she said” matter that has long since been resolved — reveals the Times’s primary motivation. It isn’t “journalism”; instead, it’s to discredit Republicans while protecting Democrats. Cross-posted at BizzyBlog.com .

Charlie Sheen Car Stolen, Driven Off Cliff… Again

Who would have thought that the strangest thing about Charlie Sheen’s life would NOT involve drugs or prostitution… but car theft?!? For the second time in four months, the actor has had his car stolen and driven off a cliff. In February, authorities found Sheen’s SUV off Mulholland Drive . He later admitted that he left the keys in the ignition and no suspects were ever apprehended for the crime. Now, THE SAME THING HAS SOMEHOW HAPPENED AGAIN. According to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, Sheen once again left his keys inside his Mercedes, which was parked in his driveway… which is located inside a gated community. Charlie Sheen: A moron, a scheming individual or both? Police alerted the actor to the car’s disappearance around 3 a.m. this morning. They then located it on the side of the road in Beverly Hills, less than a mile from where the original incident took place. Sources say the cops are referring to this situation as “suspicious,” while one officer told Us Weekly : “The investigation is ongoing. It’s impounded for [finger] printing.”

Police release transcripts in Joran van der Sloot murder case

Lima, Peru (CNN) — Joran van der Sloot said he elbowed murder victim Stephany Flores Ramirez in the face before strangling her and then suffocating her with his own shirt, according to transcripts of his confession released by Peruvian authorities. The transcripts give shocking details of the murder van der Sloot is accused of and also gives the public its first glimpse of why van der Sloot says the alleged murder took place. “There was blood everywhere,” van der Sloot said in the transcripts. “What am I going to do now. I had blood on my shirt. there was also blood on the bed, so, I took my shirt and put it on her face, pressing hard, until I killed Stephany.” Peruvian authorities charged van der Sloot with murder last week in the death of Flores, a 21-year-old student. Van der Sloot, a 22-year-old Dutch citizen, has also been considered the main suspect in the well-publicized 2005 disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba. In the transcript, van der Sloot said that after Flores read the e-mail she punched him in the face. “At that moment impulsively, with my right elbow I hit her in the face exactly on top of the nose,” van der Sloot said. “I think she started to faint. It affected me so that I grabbed her from the neck and strangled her for a minute.” Van der Sloot said he had a quick thought that he might try to hide the body but instead fled. He was arrested in Chile on June 3 and was returned the next day to Peru. Along with killing Flores, who had a broken neck, he took money and bank cards from her wallet, police said. Van der Sloot told police in Chile a different story of how Flores died when he was arrested there, according to transcripts. He blamed the death on robbers who had waited for him at his hotel in Peru. “There was a man coming from the access door with a knife in his hand,” van der Sloot said. “The man with the knife hit her in the face making her bleed through the nose.” But Peru authorities said they had overwhelming evidence pointing to van der Sloot and when he was transferred to Peru, van der Sloot confessed to the crime, police said. Van der Sloot said he was in Peru for a poker tournament and had met Flores while he was gambling. Police have said they think van der Sloot allegedly killed Flores to steal money she won from gambling. Van der Sloot offered a different motive. “After I responded with hitting her, I feared that she would go to the police and they would detain me for what was an impulsive act,” van der Sloot said. “I think I wanted to kill her because I wasn't thinking.” Van der Sloot's lawyer, Maximo Alonso Altez Navarro, has said he plans to ask the judge in the case to strike down van der Sloot's confession because he was not properly represented when he was interrogated. Peruvian police have defended the interrogation and said van der Sloot's confession was acquired legally. added by: TimALoftis

Van Der Sloot’s Confession

Finally Van Der Sloot admitted that he had killed 21-year-old Stephany Flores on May 30. Stephany Flores was found dead in the hotel room where she was staying with him. An investigation has been conducted in relation to the murder and Van Der Sloot is considered as a suspect. Van Der Sloot is also suspected for the murder of U.S. teen in Aruba in 2005. Police has taken him into custody for three days and they are questioning him about the murder. On the third day, he confessed his crime. Stephanie Flores and Van Der Sloot were in a hotel room. The surveillance camera showed that they entered the room at 5 a.m. Saturday. After 4 hours, he went out and brought 2 coffees and bread from the market. Stephany was found dead in the room and her neck was broken. It seemed that she was beaten to death. She was a business student and the two met at a casino. Stephany’s brother is hoping for justice. There are speculations that Van Der Sloot will get 35 years of sentence for murder. He was already alleged for the disappearance of Natalee Holloway. He was arrested many times but got freed due to lac Van Der Sloot’s Confession is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Jason Wahler Arrested (This is a New Story)

Isn’t it time Jason Wahler did time? Seriously, how many arrests can one person endure before they stop getting second chances and actually pay the price for inexcusable, illegal behavior? Don’t answer that, DMX. In any case, the reality TV train wreck best known for somehow convincing Lauren Conrad to sleep with him and starring on Laguna Beach and The Hills, was busted early Sunday after allegedly striking a woman at a Hollywood party. Like we said, prison is calling. This is at least the seventh time we’ve written about this complete tool being arrested. While entertaining for awhile, it stops being funny when the crime is hitting women . Jason Wahler was taken into custody about 1:45 a.m. and booked on a charge of misdemeanor battery hours later. He’s currently being held on $20,000 bail. Earlier this year, Jason was arrested for DUI – twice, in as many countries, in the span of a month. He was already on probation for God only knows what else. Guy’s past transgressions range from excessive drinking to assaulting a tow truck driver to disorderly conduct in a hotel lobby and all sorts of other bad stuff. A rep for Wahler could not be reached for comment. Most likely because we suspect that rep will be severing all ties with Wahler for good any second now. At least we would hope so.

Obama Serves 14-State Governors with Warnings of Arrest

Barack Hussein Obama had served 14-State Governors in the United States, National Security Letters (NSLs) warning that the Governor’s actions in attempting to form “State Defense Forces” needs to be halted “immediately” or they will face arrest for the crime of treason. The employment of NSLs was authorized by the Patriot Act introduced by George W. Bush. Contained within the section related to these letters, it is forbidden for anyone receiving a NSL warning to even acknowledge the existence of said communication. Obama is angered by the several State Governors who have reestablished “State Defense Forces.” These forces are described as: “State Defense Forces (also known as State Guards, State Military Reserves, State Militias) in the United States are military units that operate under the sole authority of a state government; they are not regulated by the National Guard Bureau nor are they part of the Army National Guard of the United States. State Defense Forces are authorized by state and federal law and are under the command of the governor of each state. State Defense Forces are distinct from their state’s National Guard in that they cannot become federal entities.” Mr. Obama is fearful of these State Defense Forces, in that he does not have control of said forces, and with the U.S. Military stretched to near breaking from multiple deployments and theatre actions in Iraq and Afghanistan, these State military forces would be under the direct command and authority of the Governors in which states have said forces. In essence, the Governors would have “de facto control” of the United States. added by: regjoeschmo
