Charlie Sheen Retools Torpedo Of Truth Tour After Bad Reviews

Actor switches to interview format after bombing in Detroit. By Gil Kaufman Charlie Sheen Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images You may have thought that troubled former “Two and a Half Men” star Charlie Sheen doesn’t listen to any voices except the warrior shouts in his own head. But the actor appeared to have listened to his audience when he took the stage Sunday night for the second stop on his My Violent Torpedo of Truth/ Defeat Is Not an Option Tour. After bombing hard during his opening show in Detroit the night before and getting booed off the stage when his wandering production went off the rails, Sheen changed up the format Sunday in Chicago and gave the audience more of what they were looking for: dish on his chaotic personal life. According to ABC News , Sheen ditched his comedic opening act and the rambling multimedia presentation and switched to an interview-style format, with an MC asking him questions about his life and career for 90 minutes. He talked about the pleasure he gets from his “goddesses” and called former “Two and a Half” co-star Jon Cryer a “rock star.” He tried to calm down the crowd when they heckled the less appreciative audience in Detroit and shouted “Detroit sucks!” while waiting for Sheen to take the stage. He regaled the crowd of 3,600 at the Chicago Theatre with the tale of the first time he tried drugs; he talked about his marriages and his legal problems and explained why he prefers to pay for sex. “I have millions to blow, and I ran out of stuff to buy,” he said. Smoking throughout the show, Charlie lamented his dad Martin Sheen’s advice to pass up “The Karate Kid” in favor of the chance to appear in “Predator 2,” never mind, as CNN pointed out, that “Predator 2” came out six years after “Kid” and Charlie did not appear in it. Sheen reportedly stayed up all night on the bus ride from Detroit to Chicago retooling the show. He ended the night with a poem, which read, “I stand before you oh captain oh captain to most humbly praise you for this radical ripple this single cast stone in the stagnant puddle that is the known universe. Your weapon of choice is wordplay via Dr. Seuss play.” It remains to be seen how the rest of the 20-city tour will do, with reports that a number of shows are suffering from poor ticket sales in light of the bad reviews of the Detroit appearance. Britney Spears ‘Legitimizes’ Pauly D’s DJ Career, ‘Jersey Shore’ Star Says

‘Britney Spears is performing her new album at Rain while I’m DJing. I couldn’t ask for anything more,’ Pauly D says of last Friday’s Vegas gig. By Jocelyn Vena Pauly D Photo: MTV News Shortly after it was announced that Pauly D would be the resident DJ at Rain nightclub at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, the “Jersey Shore” star was bestowed with another honor: He was to DJ Britney Spears’ surprise gig in Las Vegas , which was taped for her MTV special “Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale,” airing Sunday at 9 p.m. ET. “For me, I love Las Vegas, I love DJing. It’s my heart. I locked down this huge residency, which I always wanted, and now I find out Britney Spears is performing her new album at Rain while I’m DJing. I couldn’t ask for anything more,” Pauly D dished to MTV News last Friday. “I’m at Las Vegas now. What it means to DJ a concert like a Britney Spears concert or something like that, it’s an association with monsters like Britney Spears and it just legitimizes your career. And it’s just fun like being onstage with Britney Spears performing like she’s performing. I love it. I couldn’t ask for more.” Given that Pauly D plays a mix of popular music and more underground house, he admits that he doesn’t have to change his style up too much for a gig with Spears. “I keep up on music. I keep up on current music. I play everything. I’m open format,” he explained. “I play geared to the crowd, so I don’t prep my set. For this I go out there, I kind of wing it. I look at the crowd, I have an idea. I like to play the new stuff that’s hot. I feed off the crowd.” Pauly also explained the rules he has for his craft. “A DJ should not play the artist’s songs at her concert ’cause she has to perform these songs,” he said. “I’m not going to be playing any Britney before she performs; maybe after. I’ll let her perform, let her shine ’cause it’s her night.” The Vegas show is one of many highlights in the “I Am the Femme Fatale” special. Spears gives fans a taste of what it was like making the album, including behind-the-scenes footage of her in the studio with will.i.am and an intimate chat with Sway Calloway in which she opens up about her life and her career. To see what Spears has to say about her new album and watch her as she puts the finishing touches on it, don’t miss the “Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale” special, airing Sunday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV. Jessie J Demonstrates The Dangers Of Nail Art On ‘When I Was 17’

British songstress talks about her early toy-store job on this week’s episode, airing Saturday at 11 a.m. ET. By Sterling Wong Jessie J on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News British singer/songwriter Jessie J kept herself plenty busy in her teenage years. On this week’s “When I Was 17,” the newcomer shares that as an ambitious teen, she signed up for singing lessons, and to pay for that, she worked at a major toy store in London called Hamleys. Working around fun toys and cute kids must have been a breeze, no? Not quite, according to Jessie! “I did ‘nail jazz,’ and so I was basically drawing snowmen, Christmas trees and smiley faces,” she explained. “And I used to lose my voice all the time ’cause I’d be like, ‘Hello! Would you like a nail jazz demonstration?’ ” Jessie’s voice wasn’t the only thing affected by the job. Because she had to paint so many nails each day, she actually injured her hand in the process! “It was hard work. I actually gave myself an injury. I had a specific muscle that I basically ripped, because I did so many nails every day,” Jessie says. Who knew working in a toy store could be detrimental to your health? Still, Jessie looks at the bright side of things. “The positive of the job was that now I can draw a snowman or a Christmas tree on anyone’s nails!” With her star firmly on the rise and with her debut album dropping in the U.S. on April 12, Jessie’s probably not going to be doing more nails anytime soon! “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Jessie J, Tyrese and Lupe Fiasco — airs Saturday (April 2) at 11 a.m. on MTV. Pitbull Talks ‘Getting Wild’ With MTV Spring Break Crowds

The Miami rapper says the Las Vegas spring break revelers are ‘doing everything they not supposed to be doing.’ By Jayson Rodriguez Pitbull and Sway Photo: MTV News Pitbull put on his best casino-styled suit for MTV’s 2011 Spring Break, taking his inspiration from “Sam Rothstein,” he said. The Miami rapper channeled Robert DeNiro’s “Casino” character and, like a good Las Vegas dealer he knows the house always win. That’s why he’s betting the money on things getting wild during his spring-break performance, which is scheduled to air on MTV on Friday (April 1) at 9:50 p.m. ET. “We about to go out there and show them everything they supposed to be doing on spring break, which is doing everything you not supposed to,” Pit said during his 2011 Spring Break Performer Diary. “Jersey Shore” stars Pauly D and Deena were in the house to see Pitbull get loose. “They getting loose,” Pit said about the crowd. “They getting wild, they doing everything they not supposed to be doing, so therefore we came through and did what we had to do.” Pitbull, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa and Lupe Fiasco made up the MTV Spring Break 2011 lineup, but the “Hotel Room Service” star was the only returning visitor. He didn’t have too much advice for his fellow performers, but recommended that they take a page from the co-eds playbook and go out there and have fun. “I don’t know if there’s too many don’ts during spring break — I think it’s all about do,” Pitbull told MTV News earlier in the week. “Who you doing and how you doing it. If you gonna be up there rocking the crowd, you have to give them that energy, you got to make sure that you send them off so they have an amazing night. They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but I’m from Miami. Whatever happens in Miami never happened!” Related Videos Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, More Take Over MTV Spring Break 2011 Related Artists Pitbull

‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Ralph Macchio Holds Onto High Score

But in second week of competition, Chris Jericho, Romeo and Hines Ward earned the highest praise from the judges. By Kelley L. Carter Karina Smirnoff and Ralph Macchio Photo: ABC The season’s barely started, and already there was a three-way tie for the top on Monday night’s “Dancing With the Stars.” When the new celebrity contestants got a second chance to make a first impression, following last week’s non-elimination premiere, Chris Jericho and Cheryl Burke; Romeo and Chelsea Hightower; and Hines Ward and Kym Johnson stepped up their game this week. All three earned a total of 23 points from the judges. After all of the contestants performed the quickstep or the jive, their scores were added to last week’s tabulation. Both scores will then be added to the call-in votes from viewers. With last week’s scores taken into account, it was actually Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff at the top of the leader board, with 45 total points. Ward and Johnson were next with 44, followed by Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy with 43 points. It’s a bit confusing, but Tuesday’s elimination — the first for season 12 — should clear things up a bit. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba seemed most impressed with football superstar Ward’s quickstep. “That was amazing; I loved it,” she said. Hard-to-please judge Bruno Tonioli loved that Burke was able to turn wrestler Jericho from “a beast into a gazelle.” Head judge Len Goodman loved Romeo’s quickstep, saying it was “the best dance of the night.” Aside from the 23 points the top three couples grabbed, here’s how the others fared: Last week’s favorite, Macchio, didn’t impress judges with his Monday night jive. Goodman said he overdid it. Alley, fresh from a Twitter beef with talk-show host George Lopez, said she wanted to win both the competition and at weight loss. “You are so in your element. I love watching you dance,” Inaba told her. Tonioli told her that she had talent. Former Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson did little to impress the judges, though Inaba told her, “I saw more than the choreography. There was a newfound elegance.” She scored 19 points. Supermodel Petra Nemcova and Disney star Chelsea Kane each grabbed 18 points. The judges didn’t seem to care too much for Kane’s jive. The bottom scorers went to legendary boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, talk-show host Wendy Williams and radio personality Mike Catherwood, who each earned 17 out of 30 points. Lil Wayne Renews His Love For New York At Long Island Shows

Closing the second night of the I Am Still Music stop at Nassau Coliseum, Weezy gives a shout out to his Rikers COs. By Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne performs in Long Island on Monday Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage UNIONDALE, New York — It’s been roughly two weeks since Lil Wayne returned to the big stage with his I Am Still Music Tour . He’s been tearing up venues across the country in the days that followed, but there was something sentimental about his two nights of sold-out shows at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum. After all, just a few months ago, a little more than 20 miles away, Wayne was doing hard time at Rikers Island , serving a one-year prison sentence on weapons charges stemming from the 2007 arrest that followed his show at New York’s Beacon Theatre. On Monday night, Wayne exchanged the 8-foot cell he was housed in at the Eric M. Taylor Center for a hockey arena and thanked fans for their support during his down time. “A few months ago, I was stuck in this island,” Wayne told to the audience. “This place called Rikers Island. It was people like Drake and people like y’all who made me feel like I was in a paradise of love. Shout out to the COs I’m cool with, but tell the warden to kiss my ass.” But in reality, Weezy showed no signs of bitterness towards the state he unwillingly called home for the majority of 2010. The larger-than-life MC appeared on stage sporting a blue and orange New York Knicks cap, his signature polo shirt and black leather pants. Wayne closed out his New York run backed by a live band, unearthing a catalog of smash hits including “Mrs. Officer,” “Go DJ” and “Got Money” as well as mixtape cuts such as “I’m Single” and “Bill Gates.” With appearances by Lil Twist, Mack Maine, Shanell and Nicki Minaj, Weezy continued to make the point that his Young Money movement was reminiscent of previous rap powerhouse cliques who made their marks in the hip-hop game. “Remember how Diddy had his artists? And Jay had Roc-a-fella, and Baby had all his artists?” Wayne asked. “Well, I have all my artists.” Halfway through his set, Wayne introduced Minaj, and the Queens MC ripped through her own records for her hometown crowd. Nicki ignited the audience with hits “Roman’s Revenge” to “Did It on ‘Em” to the celebratory “Right Through Me” anthem, for which she donned a wedding dress. And as she assisted Wayne on “Roger That” he appeared to be stunned by Nicki’s tight, ripped-up jeans. “Make some noise for the best rapper aliiive,” Nicki yelled at the crowd, referring to Wayne as she exited the stage. “Make some noise for them pants!” Wayne shot back. Preceeding Wayne’s set, Rick Ross also ignited the coliseum with his array of hits and a surprise guest appearance by close friend DJ Khaled, who joined him for “We Takin’ Over.” Khaled also showed his New York support wearing a New York Yankees clubhouse jacket. The show had emotional moments in between songs too. Wayne took time to send prayers for earthquake victims in Japan and acknowledged members of the military in the audience who came out to support the MC in their uniforms. “We got a couple soldiers in here; make some noise for these men,” Wayne said, removing his tinted shades as the house lights spotlighted the warriors. On the night of his arrest years ago, Weezy vowed to never return to the Big Apple. But judging by the diamond-studded grin he flashed throughout the night as the crowd chanted “Weezy’s Home,” it’s a safe assumption that the MC was happy to be back in New York. “New York always showed us love,” said Birdman, sitting in his tour bus following the show. “It was just unfortunate he had to come out here and do time. But the people always showed us mad love. New York is probably one of our biggest markets. They always supported us, and we always showed them love.” Related Photos Lil Wayne Brings ‘I Am Still Music’ Tour To New York Related Artists Lil Wayne

Britney Spears Is A True ‘Superstar,’ San Francisco Drag Queens Say

‘I had a great time up there,’ Donna Sachet tells MTV News of opening for Brit at ‘Good Morning America’ show. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears performs in San Francisco on March 27 Photo: Araya Diaz/ WireImage Britney Spears had a busy weekend. She performed for her fans in San Francisco , just days after she graced the stage in Las Vegas at the Palms, where MTV was filming her for an upcoming special. At her San Francisco show, which was being taped for “Good Morning America,” Spears had five drag queens in over-the-top costumes warm up the crowd with their sassy back-and-forth. After the performance, MTV News caught up with two of the queens, who told us it was a lot of fun opening for the femme fatale. “As a huge Britney fan, it was amazing,” Pollo Del Mar told us. “I was excited just to have Britney Spears here in San Francisco, but to participate and be a part of it was amazing.” “It was a treat,” Donna Sachet added. “I had a great time up there. Five drag queens, all different types of drag, we loved it. We were complimented that Britney wanted to start with something like that.” During her set, Spears performed three tracks from Femme Fatale, out Tuesday, and Pollo gushed that the pop star did a great job. “I thought it was amazing,” Pollo said. “It shows why she’s a superstar and certainly I think that the crowd response showed that she’s beloved. … The reason I love Britney Spears is throughout her career, she’s shown she’s human, she’s fallible … I think that makes her someone people can rally behind and love.” Spears performance featured three eye-catching costumes, complete with sequins, latex and lights. “We do get ideas from her costuming and from her dancers and her energy,” Donna admitted. Fans were equally dazzled by Spears’ set. “It was amazing,” a fan named Sarah told us after the show wrapped. “It was so hot! We live here in the city, and she was sexier than ever and I’d go lesbian for her. She really blew it up.” Are you planning to buy Britney’s new album? Tell us in the comments! Swedish House Mafia’s ‘Masquerade Motel’ Takes Over South Beach

Thousands of fans treated to sight and sound spectacular during trio’s Miami Music Week ‘One Night Stand.’ By Akshay Bhansali and Adam Stewart Swedish House Mafia Photo: 2010 Denise Truscello MIAMI — Swedish House Mafia attempted — and executed — a spectacle of mammoth proportions on Miami’s South Beach shore on Saturday. With close to 15,000 masked fans checked in and hundreds of others watching and dancing alongside a massive tent, the house music super-group treated their fans to the nine-hour mini-festival that was “Masquerade Motel: One Night Stand.” While the three Swedes were the headliners, their supporting lineup alone was worth marveling over: Junior Sanchez, A-Trak, Armand Van Helden, Max Vangeli, AN21, Dirty South, and Pete Tong (who also emceed the event) were among the big-name performers. But when it came time for Axwell, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso to take the stage, it was clear this show would be like no other Miami has seen. The curtain dropped to reveal a massive, 40-foot structure adorned with LED screens, lights, pyro and speakers. And with the trio standing at the center of it all, the crowd exploded. Swedish House Mafia opened with their late-summer 2010 anthem, “Miami 2 Ibiza,” which was followed by “Dynamite,” a new track by Alesso, who was recently signed to Ingrosso’s Refune Record Label. Then followed the stream of new music fans had been eagerly awaiting. SHM dropped a block of fresh tunes, a highlight of which was an off-center, Arabian-style techno monster that the crowd went berserk for, as the guys danced onstage in sync with their fans. Then there was a remix of deadmau5 ‘s “Strobe.” Next was Marco V’s “Reaver” and a mash-up of Angello’s “Show Me Love” and “KNAS,” which kicked the show into overdrive, accompanied by a stunning visual display. Perez Hilton Reveals Birthday Wishes For Lady Gaga, Anti-Bullying

Celeb blogger blew out the candles at his Blue Ball Birthday Bash, telling MTV News he’ll donate event proceeds to an LGBT charity. By Kelley L. Carter Perez Hilton Photo: Valerie Macon/Getty Images LOS ANGELES — Perez Hilton had two wishes for his birthday this year. The 33-year-old blogger, who celebrated in grand Hollywood fashion on Saturday night at a Sunset Boulevard studio in Los Angeles, says that if he has his way, two things will come to pass: Lady Gaga’s Born This Way will be a super hot-selling album and teen bullying will cease. “My birthday wish for this year is for Lady Gaga’s new album, Born This Way, to sell over 1.2 million copies the first week,” he said, pausing to give off a mock-sinister laugh. “That would beat Taylor Swift’s 1.1-something!” That was actually the only kind-of-mean thing the notorious blogger said at his Blue Ball Birthday Bash on Saturday. And it could be the last. Perez said he has cleaned up his act, largely due to the teen bullying that’s been well-documented over the past year. “When there was that rash of gay teenagers committing suicide last year, and the bullying that is still going on, I was so moved. So moved that I changed how I operate on my website. When it came time to do my birthday, the idea came to me to raise money for charity and, of course, I wanted it to be a LBGT organization. And of course it was important for to me to work with one for young people,” he told MTV News. So what does that kind of change mean? For starters, it means Perez may not have to duck celebrities anymore. He’s been trying to stick to the facts, he said, and do less of the ad-libs like drawing on their paparazzi photographs. He also opened up about how he apologized to Jennifer Aniston for how he treated her over the years on his blog. “The great thing about being the new and more positive Perez is that I, hopefully, will be having less awkward, uncomfortable, negative confrontations with people,” he said. “But hey, I’m a big boy. I’ve done things in the past I’m not that proud of.” What do you think of Perez’s birthday wishes? Tell us in the comments! Related Photos Perez Hilton’s Blue Ball Birthday Celebration

Britney Spears Steals Hearts At San Francisco Show

Brit performs Femme Fatale tracks, shouts out LGBT teens at concert set to air Tuesday on ‘Good Morning America.’ By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears performs during “Good Morning America” Photo: C Flanigan/FilmMagic SAN FRANCISCO — The city of San Francisco loves Britney Spears and that love was apparent at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, where the pop star performed some of her brand-new Femme Fatale club bangers on Sunday afternoon (March 27). The excited roomful of fans were among the lucky group tapped to watch her tape a “Good Morning America” performance, which will air on Tuesday, the same day her album drops. Check out hot photos of Britney’s “GMA” performance . Before Spears even hit the stage, five fabulous drag queens warmed up the crowd and declared their adoration for the femme fatale herself. Their sassy back-and-forth was followed by Cheer SF, a cheerleading act. After the room was sufficiently warmed up, “GMA” hosts Sam Champion and Robin Roberts came onstage to introduce Spears. From a set that mirrored the one used in her Las Vegas show two nights ago, Spears kicked off with her lead single, “Hold It Against Me.” She dazzled the crowd with an engaging performance, dancing around in a stunning silver bodysuit. After the song, she smiled, telling the crowd “It’s beautiful” being in San Francisco to perform for them. After a change of clothes into a body-hugging, black bodysuit, Spears got sexy for the will.i.am collabo “Big Fat Bass.” As she shimmied to the thumping track, fans cheered along. Spears even gave a shout-out to the local gay youths who were in attendance from the Larkin Street homeless shelter and the LYRIC center for LGBT youth. “They’re in the front row; thanks for coming.” Between songs, Roberts and Champion taped intros and the former teased a top-secret announcement Britney is set to make on Tuesday when the show airs. Spears then performed one more track, her second single, “Till the World Ends,” to cap off the performance. After her last song, an excited-looking Britney gazed at her fans and told them she was looking forward to releasing her new album: “I love music. It’s my world, it’s my everything.” Before she left the stage, Brit was presented with a certificate from the city, and she thanked them exuberantly the super warm reception.
