Source: Joe Raedle / Getty It’s a well known fact that McDonald’s is the perfect place to practice your hands whenever you need to handle business in or outside the fast food world. Now of course, these fights might result in a lawsuit…or even jail time. But when it comes to the seriousness of your fast food order, a customer’s gotta do what a customer’s gotta do. However, sometimes the customer isn’t always right. Daniel Willis Taylor proved this when he had the audacity to grab a McDonald’s employee by the shirt when he was unhappy with her service. Little did he know that the employee had hands like Joe Frazier. In a clip posted on Facebook, Taylor argues with employee Yasmine James over an incident involving a straw, according to the Atlanta Black Star. The chaos took off around 6:50 p.m. at a Florida location on Monday and witness Kinie Biandudi recorded the most intense moment. The argument between Taylor and James escalated, and Taylor proceeded to reach over the counter and grab James by the shirt. James was not about this life though, so she proceed to unload a round a fists towards Taylor’s face. According to Biandudi, James said she used to box and after the fight Taylor “came back and went behind the counter & tried to fight the manager. The guy left before the cops arrived.” The Pinellas County Police eventually arrested the 40-year-old Taylor, accusing him of assaulting Yasmine James as well as kicking another female employee in the stomach. Smh, like whaaa… According to the report, Taylor was mad that the restaurant had a policy requiring customers to request drinking straws at the front. The footage of him attacking James went viral and many people came to the 20-year-old’s defense. “He should be jailed and she needs to have her job,” one user said. “It was self defense.” James was obviously praised for her hand skills as well. “She showed him those hands real quick tho!” one user wrote. “Someone get her an MMA contract.” McDonald’s came out with a statement regarding the incident saying, “Our highest priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees and customers at our restaurants.” But we all know it’s something about those yellow arches that has people seeing red. Fast food toxins maybe? But that’s another story. Until the next Mickey D’s throw-down!

Source: Getty Images / Getty Images A Chipotle manager went viral over the past few days after she was seen, on video, refusing to serve a group of black customers. Now, after having fired the young woman, Chipotle is rethinking the decision. In the clips, the unidentified woman smiles at the young men while telling them “You gotta pay because you never have money when you come in here.” “Can a group of young well established African American get a bite to eat after a long workout session,” of the young men, Masud Ali, tweeted. Adding a total of four more clips to the thread on Twitter, Ali continued to call out the alleged bias with this series of tweets: “Note how this employee said “we’ve seen you guys come in twice” and later say he never saw us in his entire life….. calling the police on loyal customers is super disrespectful and uncalled for. This unacceptable and I don’t appreciate these employees making false accusations.” “I don’t like how she’s laughing like something is funny. So when a WHITE woman walks in you change your policy of “show us income before you get served” ????? So @Chipotle gonna sit here and tell me I can’t eat because they think I look like someone that stole from them before?? “Notice how they complete ignored our proof of income. @ChipotleTweets I need answers. We show you proof of income because we were getting hungry and still didn’t get serve. Makes me wonder if I was ever going to get served from the beginning.” “So we need to provide proof of income but she gets her meal for free? This is beyonddddd meeeeee.” After Chipotle caught wind of what happened, the company terminated the manager, saying “Regarding what happened at the St. Paul restaurant, the manager thought these gentlemen were the same customers from Tuesday night who weren’t able to pay for their meal. Regardless, this is not how we treat our customers and as a result, the manager has been terminated and the restaurant has been retrained to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again.” It didn’t take long for folks to come to the manager’s defense, calling Ali out for an alleged history of dining and dashing. Now, Chipotle seems to be thinking twice about kicking their employee to the curb. “Our actions were based on the facts known to us immediately after the incident, including video footage, social media posts and conversations with the customer, manager and our employees,” Chipotle chief communications officer Laurie Schalow told Fox News over the weekend. “We want to do the right thing, so after further investigation we will re-train and re-hire if the facts warrant it.” “We have spent the last few days reviewing the evidence available to us regarding the incident in St. Paul, MN. Based on our review, we have offered our manager her job back. While our normal protocol was not followed serving these customers, we publicly apologize to our manager for being put in this position. We will work to continue to ensure that we support a respectful workplace for our employees and our customers alike,” Chipotle reportedly continued. A Black venture capitalist is using her business acumen and resources to revitalize underserved areas in Washington, D.C. Through her company EB5 Capital, Angelique Brunner is intertwining community restoration, job creation and citizenship for foreign investors, Fast Company reported. This black female entrepreneur is rebuilding D.C. with foreign dollars—and a dream https://t.co/wl8wUU96Iw — Fast Company (@FastCompany) September 29, 2018 Brunner moved to the nation’s capital nearly 20 years ago and discovered neighborhoods that were in dire need of help, the news outlet writes. Many of the predominately Black communities that had been ravaged by the 1968 riots following the death of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were left with abandoned buildings and nearly no businesses for decades. Determined to evoke change in these neighborhoods, Brunner launched EB5 Capital. The company gives investors from other countries the opportunity to put money towards rebuilding D.C. neighborhoods in exchange for green-cards and a smoother journey to U.S. citizenship. Brunner—who was once the only Black woman in the venture capital world from the New York City to Atlanta area—believes the program is beneficial for all parties involved. “People are willing to invest in the United States for an expedited visa process. The only hitch is that you have to create jobs with the money they invest,” she told the news outlet. “We are focused on job creation, but livable cities require jobs and affordable housing. You can actually have financial gains in a neighborhood that don’t necessarily change the racial fabric of a neighborhood initially. To me, the only way to address the addition of economic opportunity is to consciously create mixed-income neighborhoods.” EB5 Capital has worked on projects that include the City Market at O Street and the city’s Columbia Place development. There have been several efforts to rebuild underserved communities throughout the country. In August, it was reported that former NBA star and business mogul Earvin “Magic” Johnson has his sights set on revitalizing neighborhoods in Baltimore . I n an effort to make change in Chicago communities plagued by poverty and violence, AT&T has launched a new initiative to bring more employment opportunities to the city, Crain’s Chicago reported. AT&T hires 400 in areas hard hit by gun violence https://t.co/jkthcZ2xfE — Crain's Chicago (@CrainsChicago) September 28, 2018 The project—dubbed “Believe Chicago”—was created as an avenue to drive job creation for underserved individuals, the news outlet writes. Through the initiative, AT&T has allocated $2 million to nearly 20 non-profit organizations throughout the Chicago area. The company has also hired over 400 individuals at their Chicago Platinum Customer Care Center and other stores. “We started thinking about our philanthropy, fully recognizing the challenges in areas affected by gun violence,” Paul La Schiazza , president of AT&T Illinois, told the news outlet. “We started digging deep—how could we use human capital and assets to improve those communities?” John Donovan , CEO, AT&T Communications, told Black Enterprise that AT&T is a part of the fabric of Chicago and that this effort is being led by employees who live and work in communities that are impacted by these issues. “Through their existing efforts, we have gotten more engaged and they have inspired the company to bring more assets to help. They’re passionate about wanting to do more and we’re committed to supporting their efforts,” he said. “We want to improve lives and lift Chicago neighborhoods that have suffered due to negative elements in the community. We’re working with employees and community leaders to address some root causes by promoting hiring, training, and opportunity—and making sure the good news gets out along the way.” Crain’s Chicago reports that the company employs nearly 5,000 people in the Cook County area. The company is currently working on a documentary titled “Beacon of Hope” that highlights the stories of individuals working to evoke change in their communities. Robert Alexander/Getty Images United Airlines Passenger Scored a Voucher Worth $10K A woman in Washington, D.C . is going down in the history books for the most legendary finesse of all time. She put every other customer service offer to shame by scoring a $10,000 voucher from United Airlines. Yep, $10,000. She’s a legend. But as you might be able to predict, Allison Preiss said that getting the airline to cough up the dough was no easy feat. Preiss was on her way from Washington Dulles International Airport to Austin, Texas on Thursday morning when the airline staff starting asking passengers to volunteer their seats on the overbooked flight. As per usual, nobody volunteered, and when that happened, the airline told Preiss that she had to forfeit her seat, because she had paid the lowest fare. Obviously, Allison was pretty annoyed, so she took to Twitter to vent about the incident. After that, one airline worker tried to backpedal and completely change the situation, telling Preiss that she was only bumped because the plane had a broken seat. . @united offering $1K in travel credit for an oversold flight. If nobody bites, they will kick off the lowest fare passenger by pulling them out of the boarding line. For a flight that THEY oversold. Unreal. — Allison Preiss (@allisonmpreiss) March 22, 2018 After that is when the gate agents started to negotiate. They first they offered her a $2,000 voucher, but Preiss declined and said she’d prefer a check. As they were about to write her a check for $650, one agent offered her a seat on the next plane and a $10,000 voucher. This offer is in line with the airline’s new cap for passengers who offer up their seats, which was raised back in April 2017, following a passenger being dragged off a plane for refusing to forfeit his seat. They really do not want to give me cash. They just offered me $10,000 in travel credit. TEN THOUSAND. — Allison Preiss (@allisonmpreiss) March 22, 2018 Good on you, Allison. This is a message to all future flight passengers to stick to your guns when traveling, you might just walk away with $10,000. Continue reading →

New York City-based journalist and documentary filmmaker Jenny McQuaile has taken the leap of faith to tackle those issues head on and make a lot of designers, agents, and influencers in the industry very uncomfortable. Straight/Curve is a documentary film that deeply investigates the lack of diversity in fashion. But what began solely as a look into the evolution of the plus-size modeling world, grew to include both the thick and thin of the industry, and most importantly its praise with youth and whiteness. “Representation is important because every human being on the planet deserves to see themselves reflected and feel good about themselves,” McQuaile told Refinery 29 in a recent interview. “It is a really hard thing to wake up in the morning every single day and feel good about yourself, and it gets worse if it is compounded by the industry, and the media, and movies, and music…” Straight/Curve comes out early 2017.
