Tito Lopez Challenges Rap Competitors To His Own Hunger Game

‘I spit and I spit for real, so I wanted to bring that hunger aspect to it and that feeling like I gotta be #1,’ MC says of The Hunger Game. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Lacsina Tito Lopez Photo: Main Pick Headliner : Tito Lopez Representing : Gulfport, Mississippi Mixtape : The Hunger Game Real Spit : Tito Lopez sure is confident; then again, if you could rap tightly packed bars like the Gulfport, Mississippi, MC, you would be too. On his latest mixtape, The Hunger Game, Tito puts all of his skill and confidence on full display. “I named my mixtape The Hunger Game basically because if anybody knows me, they know I love movies,” Tito told Mixtape Daily. Lopez found a parallel in “The Hunger Games” film and the rap game where he hopes to one day be crowned a king. “If you never seen that movie these kids have to fight to the death, they’re kids and it’s really kind of messed up. They gotta fight ’till it’s one winner and I feel like that’s the competition aspect that’s missing out of rap,” he said. On “Try Me,” Tito invites all would-be detractors to the battlefield. “Feast on beats and pick my teeth, if you want some bitch come find me/ I’ll make it hard for you to stand as a man, let alone stand by me, come try me,” he spits to end his first verse. Tito is currently a rap underdog, even though his talent has earned him a deal with Capitol Records. On “Mass Appeal 2.0” he proves his worth lyrically over a re-worked Gang Starr instrumental and then rhymes over another DJ Premier beat with his “Devil’s Pie” freestyle. Both are winners. With “Jessica,” Tito shows that it isn’t all slick metaphors and battle raps, as he weaves an intricate story rhyme about a high-school crush. His current single “Mama Proud” shows even more range; it’s a heartfelt tune dedicated to his come-up in the game. After listening to tracks like “Black Ice Freestyle,” “They Told Me” and “Ventilation,” it becomes increasingly difficult to deny Tito his place in the game. “I spit and I spit for real, so I wanted to bring that hunger aspect to it and that feeling like I gotta be #1,” he said. “If I gotta knock cats out to be that, I will be that.” Joints to Check For > > “They Told Me”— “It’s like a triumphant type joint. I’ve made that just to basically let people know I’ve come along way.” > > “Jessica” — “This is one of my favorite joints period. I tell a story about a girl who she has low self-esteem, she made some bad choices, had a hard life and she don’t have no self-respect or nothin’ like that. Basically during the story, I’m trying to tell her to respect herself more, to make better choices.” Related Artists Tito Lopez

T.I. Says Chief Keef Gives A Voice To ‘Youth In America’

T.I. admits to courting the 16-year-old Chicago MC, but supports his decision to sign with Interscope. By Rob Markman T.I. Photo: Chief Keef has had a hell of a weekend. Not only did the 16-year-old Chicago MC sign a record deal with Interscope, he also got a chance to perform at Birthday Bash in front of 20,000 ATL rap fans. Keef was one of T.I. ‘s many special guests, which included Usher, Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy. Backstage, Tip gave the youngster the ultimate co-sign. “Chief Keef, I feel like he represents a part of America,” T.I. told MTV News. “He represents a part of the youth in America that ain’t really got a voice right now. We looking at ’em, and we’re seeing the results of their actions, but we ain’t really listening to ’em, and I think you gotta have a representative of each generation in order to understand what they dealing with.” Because of his power in the rap game, Tip feels it’s his responsibility to try to understand and help young rappers. Keef garnered a ton of attention thanks to underground standout tracks “I Don’t Like” and “3 Hunna.” The former is a gritty street track that denounces snitching and fake True Religion jeans. The song’s video has already amassed more than 6 million views on YouTube and caught the attention of Kanye West, who, along with Keef, Pusha T, Big Sean and Jadakiss, remixed the track. A number of industry executives have expressed interest in signing the young rapper. Birdman was vocal about courting the young spitter, but it was Interscope that presented the best offer. “They was talking good to me,” he told RapFix. “They was talking like I was talking, and I liked that. All these other labels, I was talking to ’em, but it’s time anyway for me, and I’m going with Interscope.” T.I. said there was an opportunity for Keef to join his Grand Hustle family, but he respects the young rapper’s decision. Tip is just happy that the go-getter was able to make a way for himself. “The opportunity existed, but I never put my own personal wishes before the best interest of the next person,” T.I. said. “I’m just happy that he’s able to do whatever’s best for him and his family and to move forward as a person and to progress in life. As long as he’s doing that, I’m happy.” What do you think Chief Keef’s signing to Interscope? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Chief Keef T.I.

Nas Producer Compares Life is Good To Amy Winehouse, Fugees

Salaam Remi compares Nas’ 10th solo album to Back to Black and The Score By Rob Markman Nas Photo: Despite having more than 20 years in the game and a number of classic albums already under his belt, Nas admitted to MTV News he’s “a little nervous” about completing his 10th solo album, Life is Good. Luckily, he has friends like producer Salaam Remi to reassure him. When Nas and Salaam were putting the finishing touches on the album, the rapper admitted doubt started to creep in. “At this point when we’re mastering, I start to get a little nervous,” Nas told MTV News on June 12. “I start thinking about those records I could’ve, should’ve, would’ve done that didn’t make it.” Remi, who worked with God’s Son on the majority of Life is Good, made it clear to Nas he has no doubts. The producer told him that the upcoming album reminded him of Amy Winehouse’s 2006 breakout Back to Black and the Fugees’ 1996 Grammy Award-winning LP The Score. Sounds like a lofty comparison, but Salaam produced on both Winehouse’s and the Fugees’ classic albums, so he is an authority on the matter. It’s not that Nas lacks confidence, but in the past he has been known to leave some pretty amazing records on the cutting-room floor. In fact, on 2002’s The Lost Tapes, he unearthed gems like the soulful “Doo Rags” and “No Idea’s Original.” For Life is Good, however, Nas firmly believes that he has all the right songs on there. Last November, Salaam spoke with MTV’s Mixtape Daily and described his friend’s recording process. “It’s always way more songs, Nas’s process is that he really records a lot and goes through different ideas and gets to that point,” he said. With Life is Good, the rap great thinks he has the right mix of tracks, however. “I feel like the record is definitely one of my more focused records,” he said. “It’s only the mastering part that I get nervous [about], because I’m like, ‘After it’s mastered, that’s it.’ ” Already Nasir has released “Nasty” and “The Don,” two street singles that are reminiscent of New York’s mid-1990s hip-hop movement. His latest single, “Daughters,” is a reflective jewel where he examines his role as a dad. So far it sounds like Esco has a quality album on his hands and he doesn’t want to look back with any regrets. “Three years from now, when I’m listening to it, I don’t want to always think what I should’ve put on this record … just so it could be a complete piece of work,” he said. “But it is a complete piece of work.” What are your expectations for Nas’ upcoming Life is Good LP? Jim Jones, Ice-T Will Talk O.G.s And Hip-Hop On ‘RapFix Live’

Ice will break down his new documentary, ‘Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap,’ on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. By Rob Markman Jim Jones Photo: Slaven Vlasic/ Getty Images Things are about to get really serious on this week’s “RapFix Live,” because we have the Original Gangsta and the Certified Gangsta — Ice-T and Jim Jones — sitting down with host Sway Calloway at 4 p.m. ET Wednesday. Since his 1987 debut album, Rhyme Pays, Ice-T has stood as a culture icon, dropping classic records and later breaking down barriers in film, becoming one of rap’s earliest Hollywood draws. In 1991, he landed his breakout role as Scotty Appleton in “New Jack City” and has since gone on to star in more than two-dozen roles. Other than his raps, Ice-T is most known for his role as Detective Odafin Tutuola on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and also stars in his own reality show, “Ice Loves Coco” on E! On Friday, Ice will release “Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap,” a documentary he directed, which will explore how hip-hop went from underground music in the inner cities of America to the dominant music genre it is today. The film stars a who’s who of rap greats like Eminem, Dr. Dre, Nas and Kanye West. On Wednesday, Ice will break it all down. Jim Jones has also found an interest in film. Jones co-stars in VH1’s reality series “Love & Hip Hop,” and for his latest mixtape, Vampire Life 2: F.E.A.S.T. (The Last Supper), the Dipset capo prepared a number of cinematic videos that he plans to string together to form one continuous storyline. “I picked, like, eight songs, and I’ve strung ’em along like movies,” Jones told Mixtape Daily back in May. “Something good for people to look at. I haven’t seen something like that in a minute. I think it’ll be very interesting.” Jones will tell Sway what fans can expect next from him. That’s not all: Bronx, New York, MC Fred the Godson will also swing by the “RapFix” set and drop an exclusive freestyle. You’re not going to want to miss it. What Did Kim Kardashian Gift Kanye West for His Birthday?

Considering the gift Kim Kardashian bestowed upon Kanye West for his 35th birthday, following three mere months of dating, imagine what this reality star would purchase for the rapper if they did actually get married … Indeed, multiple sources confirm that Kardashian purchased for her man a black Aventador LP700-4 Lamborghini. The price tag on this slick sports car? $750,000. We’d be impressed – and nauseated – by Kim’s ability to easily afford such a gift, but come on. She doesn’t actually pay for anything. She just receives items for free after sending out a few Tweets and Facebook messages. “Thanks to all my fans,” Kanye wrote this week in response to many well wishes. “I am tweeting under the stage while Jay is rapping in Dublin on my birthday. You guys make all my dreams possible.” We wonder where pretending to date a woman best known for making a sex tape with Ray J fits into those dreams.

Snooki Nude Photos: Leaked, Seductive!

Snooki is not opposed to flaunting her kooka on Jersey Shore, but we’re still guessing she probably didn’t want these pictures of herself to go public. It’s unclear how, but the reality star looks to be the latest victim of sexy cell phone photos gone amok, with several very revealing shots leaking online. Here’s one of the least risque Snooki photos in question … While it’s not clear who leaked the photos, the Daily Mail (UK) obtained and published them , and the 24-year-old is clearly having some fun. She can be seen taking photos of herself clutching her girls, in a robe opened to reveal her body, as well as completely in the buff in one pic. “Clearly these are old, personal photos that were not meant for the public,” the now- pregnant Snooki’s rep told E! News following the leak. “It’s a shame someone decided to leak them for obvious personal gain.” The usually loquacious reality star, who recently got engaged to (as well as knocked up by) Jionni LaValle, has yet to address the subject. Follow the link for two more (NSFW) Snooki photos … Snooki: Would you … you know?
