Jonas Brothers Rooting For Michael Lynche on ‘American Idol’

‘He’s one of my favorites right now,’ Joe Jonas says of Big Mike. By Jocelyn Vena The Jonas Brothers Photo: MTV News The Jonas Brothers were probably pretty relieved when the “American Idol” judges saved Michael Lynche a couple of weeks back. It seems the mop-topped trio are really rooting for the singer to win it all. “I don’t know all of their names, but what is the guy that sang that … Big Mike! I think he has an amazing voice,” Joe Jonas told MTV News. “He’s really talented. I want to say he’s one of my favorites right now.” Joe and his brothers say that even if Lynche doesn’t win, they are sure he has a very bright future ahead of him. “On ‘American Idol,’ they’re all so talented, and even if you don’t win, it seems like a majority of them end up becoming winners of their own because they are so talented,” he said of successful “Idol” alumni like Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and Clay Aiken, who didn’t win their seasons. Joe knows a thing or two about season nine of “Idol,” since he has already appeared as a guest judge during the Dallas auditions and performed with Demi Lovato during a results show. But the guys aren’t sure whether they will stop by again this season. “It seems like it’s getting pretty close to the end,” Joe said. “But who knows? We found out I was performing [on ‘Idol’] like three days before.” Do you agree with the Jonas Brothers and think Michael Lynche will win “American Idol”? Tell us in the comments! Erykah Badu Defends ‘Window Seat’ On ‘Wanda Sykes Show’

‘JFK is one of my heroes,’ says singer, who will be fined for nude shoot in Dallas. By Joel Hanek Erykah Badu in “Window Seat” Photo: Universal Motown Soon after learning that she will be charged with disorderly conduct for the nude shoot of her new music video, “Window Seat” — for which she faces a fine up to $500 — Erykah Badu appeared on the “The Wanda Sykes” show on Saturday. In her first interview about the video, the singer denied that she intended the clip to dishonor the late President John F. Kennedy. “My point was grossly misunderstood all over America,” she said of the video, which she made at Dealey Plaza, where JFK was assassinated in 1963. “JFK is one of my heroes, one of the nation’s heroes. … John F. Kennedy was a revolutionary; he was not afraid to butt heads with America, and I was not afraid to show America my butt-naked truth.” Erykah Badu’s ‘Window Seat’: Shot By Shot Sykes showed her own, less successful version of the video, “Middle Seat,” to an amused Badu, who also performed her single live (albeit fully clothed). MTV News recently spoke with Coodie and Chike of Creative Control, the directors of “Window Seat,” who said Badu fully understood the possible repercussions of not only filming without a proper permit, but also of the public nudity. “We had bail money and everything,” Coodie said. “I think she really wanted to get arrested and even make a bigger message.” According to the The Dallas Morning News, an official from the Dallas police department said the Grammy winner’s citation is a misdemeanor that’s the equivalent of a traffic ticket. Deputy Police Chief Mike Genovesi told the paper that a witness had come forward and claimed to have seen Badu strip on the street. “The witness had two small children with her and was offended,” he said. On her site , Badu recently released a second version of the video, titled “Window Seat (Reexamined),” shows the original footage in reverse. Her album, New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, was released last week. Erykah Badu ‘Wanted To Get Arrested’ Over Naked ‘Window Seat’ Video, Director Says

Coodie reveals that he and co-director Chike collected bail money in advance just in case. By Gil Kaufman, with additional reporting by Shaheem Reid Erykah Badu in her video for “Window Seat” Photo: Universal Motown Erykah Badu knew that her salacious “Window Seat” video shoot was a risky proposition, but she was so committed to the concept that she was willing to give up her freedom to pull it off. Erykah Badu’s ‘Window Seat’: Shot By Shot According to Chike and Coodie, the directors of the clip — in which Badu slowly strips off her clothes while walking through famed Dealey Plaza in her native Dallas — the singer was aware of the potential consequences but wanted to roll the dice anyway. A Dallas Police Department spokesperson told MTV News on Tuesday that Badu could have been arrested and jailed for up to a year if an officer had caught her in the act. Chike says that nearly happened. “We already had planned for Coodie to make a certain move with the camera so that she would have the time to get up and do what she had to do to come for the rebirth for the last scene,” he said of the jump-and-shoot guerilla shoot that was carried out without any official permits or clearances. “But then after that it was more like, ‘Where’s the van?’ The van wasn’t where we all thought it was supposed to be.” But luckily, moments later it screeched up across the street and everyone turned around and made a run for it. “Rushed in the van and she broke,” said Chike of Badu’s escape, which came as a few shocked bystanders made some noise about calling the cops. (Police told MTV News that they have no record of any 911 calls about the incident.) “It was nothing but two or three people, it was nothing that crazy at all,” added Coodie of the protests. “There was that one lady, though, that was really just crazy with her missing teeth. She was like, ‘That was so offensive!’ I was like, ‘Your teeth are offensive!’ I was bugging because Erykah was mad at me for that.” Because the filming took place in a crowded public plaza near a federal building — not to mention that it ends with Badu re-enacting the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy on the same spot where he was gunned down — Chike said everyone involved was on the lookout for any police cars or the sounds of sirens. “I just remember hearing a siren, or every minute looking up and seeing some kind of sheriff’s car or something,” he said. “So I was like, ‘This is gonna be interesting.’ ” Though no cops rolled up on them, Chike said Badu was prepared if the authorities nabbed her. “Her contingency plan was get arrested,” he said. “She was big on doing it.” Coodie revealed that the directors had already collected bail money just in case. “I think she really wanted to get arrested, even make a bigger message,” he said. “There was definitely no fear as far as that was concerned, as far as she was [intent] on getting her message across, which I can respect,” Chike added. “I feel like all people who have done great things in the past — when they set their mind to it there was already no going back. And they were already ready to deal with the ramifications of … their actions. She was already prepared to deal with whatever consequences because she knew she believed in what she was doing.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Erykah Badu Erykah Badu’s ‘Window Seat’ Bystanders Erykah Badu’s ‘Window Seat’: Shot By Shot Related Artists Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu’s Naked ‘Window Seat’ Shoot ‘Shocks’ Dallas City Councilman

‘It was not the right choice to go and perform the video as it was performed,’ Dwaine Caraway tells MTV News. By MTV News staff Erykah Badu in her video for “Window Seat” Photo: Universal Motown Dallas City Councilman Dwaine Caraway knows Erykah Badu , and he’s always been impressed by the Texas native’s philanthropic ventures and support of D-town causes. But Caraway had to shake his head when news broke that one of the city’s favorite daughters ran buck naked down the streets of downtown while filming the viral Molotov cocktail that is her “Window Seat” video . “I’m a fan and personally know Erykah, and she’s a trooper here for our city,” Caraway said. “However, governing the city as we are expected to, it was not the right choice to go and perform the video as it was performed.” Despite his praise for her civic pride and engagement, Caraway — the man behind the local “Pull ‘Em Up” campaign to stop sagging pants — said he and fellow City Council members were definitely taken aback by Badu’s permit-free guerrilla action on St. Patrick’s Day. Erykah Badu’s ‘Window Seat’: Shot By Shot “There should have been a permit issued for the filming,” he said. “Had there been a permit, then certain boundaries would have come into play and it wouldn’t be such outright shock.” Dallas Police told MTV News that had Badu’s actions been observed by one of their officers, she might have faced both a $4,000 fine and up to a year in jail, a sentence the video’s directors said she was more than willing to deal with in order to get her message across. But, because no officer witnessed the naked shoot, no charges are likely to be filed, and Caraway said no sanction will be forthcoming from the Council because no complaints have been lodged over the incident from witnesses. The councilman hasn’t reached out to Badu to speak to her about the stunt, but he said once his fellow council members are back from spring break next week, he expects some vigorous debate about the video. “I’m sure something will come up for discussion, and there will be some talk about changing the rules and putting some preventatives in place, and I’m certain something will come from it,” Caraway said. That said, given the worldwide attention “Window Seat” has garnered, Caraway figured that the video accomplished what Badu set out to in terms of hyping the release of her new album, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh). “It’s a win-win for her,” he said. “Even if we were to fine her a million dollars, she’ll probably make $200 million.” Do you think Dallas should take any action against Badu’s video?
