Drake Brings Out Special Guests At Dallas Away From Home Tour Stop

Baby and Lil Twist join their Young Money/ Cash Money comrade; Drizzy drops a Dallas freestyle. By Sarah Bryant Drake performs in Dallas on Wednesday Photo: Sarah Bryant DALLAS — Drake ‘s Away From Home Tour landed at the Palladium on Wednesday night, and the Young Money MC sounded just like the records you bang in your car — no Auto-Tune necessary. The Toronto native kicked off the show with songs from his breakout mixtape, So Far Gone, and then gave fans a taste of what’s to come on his June 15 debut, Thank Me Later, with “Fireworks,” which will feature Alicia Keys on the album. Drake temporarily diverted the love and attention from himself to his big brother, Lil Wayne. “It’s Young Money all day. Free Weezy,” Drake said between songs. “When I say Young Money, you say Free Weezy.” Birdman then made a special appearance during “4 My Town (Play Ball),” and the crowd got even crazier when the DJ dropped the beat for “Money to Blow.” “We certified getting it CM, YM, Cash Money business,” Baby rapped. Lil Twist also joined Drake onstage during “Bedrock.” The biggest spectacle was made by a fan, not a guest MC. Christina McAlister from Fort Worth, Texas, was picked from the audience to participate in the show. She landed not just a dance with Drake, but a kiss on the lips. The ladies “ooohed” with excitement as Christina tried to keep her cool. Shortly after, Drake pulled out his mic stand covered with bras, and his collection began to rack up, as women threw their bras to the stage. “I’ll make sure to add these to my treasure chest,” he chuckled. Though his newest single, “Find Your Love,” was conspicuously absent, he had to perform his breakthrough track, “Best I Ever Had.” Drake’s fans knew this show couldn’t be missed, because getting tickets wasn’t easy. In Dallas, tickets sold out within the first 24 hours. Devin Smith, a 23-year old senior from the University of North Texas, had to wait until tickets were re-released in mid-April to score his. “Just seeing Drake was on a different level!” Smith exclaimed. He and his friend arrived at the Palladium at 11:30 a.m. for the 8 p.m. performance so they could get the best seats in the house. They camped out in front, studied for summer classes and chatted with their newfound, like-minded friends. “It was worth the wait sitting there. … He put on a great concert,” Smith said. “He had great energy, and it was everything I thought it would be. It sounds cheesy, but it’s true.” Drake must have really loved his time in the D. On Thursday morning (May 20), he released “9 AM in Dallas Freestyle.” “Weezy, I’m just out here reppin’ us,” he raps. “Till I get to shake the hand of the man that’s blessing us/ I know these n—as miss the mean lyrics/ Kush got the room smelling like Teen Spirit/ … Money gets all of my love and affection/ Cars all black like the cover of Essence / I’m allergic to coming in second/ But I never sneeze/ YMO-ney, n—a.” Have you checked out Drake’s Away From Home Tour? Jay-Z Said Earlier This Year He’s ‘Inspired’ By LeBron James

NBA fans are wondering if James will head to Jay’s New Jersey Nets when his Cleveland contract is up. By Rahman Dukes LeBron James and Jay-Z Photo: MTV News Now that LeBron James has received an early exit out of the NBA playoffs for the second straight year, fans wonder: Will the 2009-10 MVP hang up his Cavs jersey for a move to Brooklyn? It’s no mystery that King James and Jay-Z are bosom buddies and that Jay’s influence on the scoring champ could bring the kid from Akron, Ohio, to the Big Apple. Earlier this year at their “Two Kings” annual event during the NBA All-Star weekend in Dallas, Texas, Hov told a crowd of reporters that he was impressed at LeBron’s growth over the years. “I’m inspired by LeBron James at this moment, this season that he’s having,” Jay said. “I didn’t think that he would get any better. I remember when I first met him — he told me that he played point guard and I was like, ‘You’ll never make it in the NBA.’ I didn’t think he’d make it past half court — he’s 6-foot-8! But I didn’t know how gifted this young man would become. And he’s getting better.” “Growing up, I had many inspirations,” James added. “Many are the same Jay mentioned.” Jay-Z and LeBron share many similarities from the reigning positions in their respective careers down to the origins of their upbringing, as both superstars come from single-parent homes. “I think our biggest inspirations were our families,” Jay continued. “We didn’t have all of this stuff coming around the neighborhood. For us, it was just our mothers, our parents — our strong mothers.” Later in the Q&A session, a reporter asked LeBron if he ever thought about playing for the Dallas Mavericks “Uh …” LeBron paused, looking toward Jay for an answer. “That’s a little self-serving,” Hov shot back at the reporter. “What about the Nets?” another reporter asked. “Nah,” Jay calmly responded. Only time will tell if Jay is pulling our leg — he’s been known to do that. What team would you like to see LeBron James play for? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Jay-Z

Erykah Badu Pleads Not Guilty To ‘Window Seat’ Charge

Singer was cited for disorderly conduct after stripping down in public during the video shoot. By Kelley L. Carter Erykah Badu in her video for “Window Seat” Photo: Universal Motown Erykah Badu entered a not-guilty plea Wednesday for stripping down in public for her much-talked-about “Window Seat” video . In March, the 39-year-old soul singer went sans clothing in Dallas’ busy Dealey Plaza during the video shoot; she later was charged with disorderly conduct in relation to the music video. “I thought it was a move for women and men and children who feel they weren’t good enough,” Erykah Badu told MTV News on April 8 about the controversial clip. ” ‘This is just me. I’m good enough.’ I felt it was important enough to do. More pros than cons.” In Badu’s video, she sheds her clothes while walking through downtown Dallas, and almost as soon as she is totally nude, she is shot in the head, falling near the same grassy knoll near where President Kennedy was shot in 1963. Instead of blood, animated words that spell out “groupthink” leak from her head on the sidewalk. The singer has said that she picked to go nude in Dealey Plaza because it’s one of the most popular locales in the city. Badu didn’t file for an official permit to shoot the video. The directors of the video, Chike and Coodie, told MTV News that they were well aware of potential attention from law-enforcement officials. They also said Badu was fully prepared for the consequences . “We had bail money and everything,” Coodie said. “I think she really wanted to get arrested and even make a bigger message.” Are you surprised that Badu pleaded not guilty? Ready for Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy?

The story of the Kennedys (including Camelot, “Happy Birthday, Mr. President,” Dallas, and a pillbox hat full of secret woes) is getting the epic treatment via an eight-hour miniseries on the History Channel. The Kennedys will star Greg Kinnear as JFK, Barry Pepper as RFK, Tom Wilkinson as Joe Kennedy Sr., and (wait for it) Katie Holmes as Jackie. My reaction to this news sounds just like what? You guessed it: Betty Draper watching Lee Harvey Oswald get shot . [ THR ]

50 Cent Announces The Invitation Tour Beginning May 28

Rapper kicks off 19-date tour in Cleveland. By Gil Kaufman 50 Cent Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images There’s been a bit of confusion about what 50 Cent’s next album, Black Magic, might sound like. After initially saying the record was inspired by dance beats he heard at a nightclub in Europe, the 50 explained that the disc will still be hip-hop, but with a twist. Fans might get a chance to hear what he’s talking about starting May 28, when 50 will launch The Invitation tour at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland. The month-long, 19-date outing will take him across the country to mid-size theaters before winding up with a June 25 show at the House of Blues in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Though some people got it twisted when he initially said he was inspired by more uptempo dance music on the disc, which doesn’t have a release date yet, 50 quickly clarified what he meant. “I got a joint that I did that was real uptempo,” 50 told British DJ Tim Westwood back in March. “It’s a different type of vibe. It’s still 50 Cent. It’s official. If you heard the record, you’d feel different. My Black Magic album, I’ve been listening to different types of music. I just wanna create something that’s outta the box. I’m using different song formats. I’ll write a rap song in the sequence of a different kind of record. A traditional hip-hop record may have three 16-bar verses. To write it in a different formant instead of the way a traditional rap record is written, to experiment with different things, it’s still hip-hop music. It’s still 50 Cent content; it’s just written in a different way.” The dates for The Invitation tour are: 5/28 – Cleveland, OH @ Wolstein Center 5/29 – Detroit, MI @ Chene Park Riverfront Amphitheater 5/30 – Chicago, IL @ UIC Pavilion 6/1 – Denver, CO @ Fillmore Auditorium 6/3 – San Francisco, CA @ Warfield Theatre 6/4 – Los Angeles @ Club Nokia at L.A.
