Kimbra Talks About Suiting Up For ‘Warrior’ With Mark Foster, A-Trak

Singer ventures into dance-music realm for the power track, which was created for Converse’s 3 Artists 1 Song series. By Jocelyn Vena Kimbra Photo: MTV News Before Kimbra hooked up with Foster the People leading man Mark Foster and well A-Trak for “Warrior,” she had just “dabbled” in the dance music realm. But on the new track, she plants all four firmly on the floor for the track. “It’s refreshing to kind of go into different genres, sometimes when you’ve been working on your own stuff for so long,” Kimbra told MTV News recently. Currently riding high off the success of her Gotye collaboration, “Somebody That I Used To Know,” the singer will release her album, Vows, Stateside in May. She ended up with Foster and A-Trak at the request of Converse for their 3 Artists, 1 Song series, which brings together artists to work on music and a coinciding music video to help launch the brand’s latest shoe line. And it’s not just the song that’s big, but also the message of the song. Kimbra offers up a girl-power battle cry on the chorus, singing, “You’re just pushing me down, pushing me down, pushing me down/(They tell you, ‘Trust your head, be like men’ but never feel like you’re good enough)/You’re just crushing me down, crushing me down, crushing me down/(They wanna take our light, make us fight, but never cry for the ones you love!)/(I’ll be your warrior, warrior).” That in-your-face feeling was actually made with very little face-to-face contact between the three artists, as they were all on separate continents when they mad the song. “I think that was fun for us all to have boundaries in that sense and not be able to be in the same room,” she told MTV News. “But it was kind of fun and we did get the chance to sit down together at one point and that was really great after talking on the phone for so long to finally be in the same room together.” The power of the song’s lyrics is mirrored in the video, which features the trio as luchadores battling it out for supremacy. And, despite several shots where the trio is all together, Kimbra let us in on a big secret. “So the video shoot was challenging because I couldn’t be in L.A. for the time of the shoot,” she said. “So I think I was in Europe at the time, so we organized for my shoot to be done to a green screen. There’s a little bit of face replacement in there as well. I’m telling you all the secrets! “But it’s fun. It’s cool that it all looked continuous enough,” she added. “I’m a bit bummed I didn’t get to do the round-house kicks. That was a stunt double. It was really fun. I always say to them, I could have done [the kicks]. They jumped to conclusions there.” Related Artists Kimbra

Epic Local News Reporter Fail: I’m Stupid!

A local news reporter in New Haven, Connecticut got all kinds of tongue tied during a story last week, and what resulted was this embarrassing clip. On location outside an elementary school, she began to tell viewers about how two teachers are being investigated for … sorry, it’s a lot to remember! After blanking, she uttered “I’m stupid” before the anchors cut her off. To be fair to the poor girl, it’s possible this was a pre-recorded segment she shot and the producers used the wrong tape (of the failed take) instead of the final one. Whoever was responsible for this, nice work … Local News Reporter: I’m Stupid!

Chelsie Hightower Barely Avoids Dancing With the Stars Wardrobe Malfunction

Chelsie Hightower narrowly avoided falling out of her outfit Monday night on Dancing With the Stars. She held it together in more ways than one, however. The right shoulder strap of Hightower’s bird costume starting slipping down, but she managed to pull it back up during the dance and end on a high note. “All together there?” host Tom Bergeron asked as Hightower, 22, as she and Fegan, 20, ended the routine. “Part of that costume almost flew the coop!” Roshon Fegan & Chelsie Hightower – Salsa (DWTS Week 5) Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli kept their comments focused on Fegan’s exceptional salsa, calling it “sexy” and “unbelievable.” Fegan says he looked to contestant/Cuban heartthrob William Levy for inspiration for his sexy moves, and it appears be chose role models wisely. Levy topped the week’s Dancing With the Stars scores with 29 (as did Katherine Jenkins), while Roshon and Chelsie landed in a solid fifth place with 26.

America’s Best Dance Crew Stages ‘Return Of The Superstars’

Season seven will be ‘incredible,’ ABDC judge JC Chasez tells MTV News; It all starts Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV! By Kara Warner with reporting by James Lacsina Dancers on “America’s Best Dance Crew” Photo: MTV Do you feel that extra energy in the air? Are your toes tappin’ for no reason? Those feelings can only mean one thing: There’s just one day left until the season seven premiere of “Randy Jackson Presents: America’s Best Dance Crew.” Every season has been one for the record books, simply because the talent among the diverse dance crews just keeps getting better. Season seven is shaping up to be the best season yet, but don’t take our word for it, check out what ABDC judges JC Chasez and Lil Mama said when MTV News caught up with them recently. “The only thing that’s going to be able to top last season is an incredible performance,” Chasez told MTV News recently. “That’s what we’re all waiting for, the next great performance. What is this next star going to do to raise the bar? That’s what we’re hoping to get out of this next season.” “The show is so innovative it’s always new,” added Lil Mama. “There’s always new chemistry. When the crews come onto the show, of course they build a fanbase, but what is more important is that they build a family base,” she explained. “They build a family and they become family with one another and when they come out on that stage everything that they go through they go through together as a crew, together as a unit of ABDC and as individuals.” This season, dubbed “Return of the Superstars,” will feature nine all-new hip-hop dance crews and one returning past crew, a fan favorite from season two, Fanny Pak. This is the first time in the series’ history a crew from a prior season will return to compete for the title. In addition, each episode will have a different theme, built around a popular celebrity artist. Dance crews will be challenged to push themselves to create astonishing performances inspired by the music and persona of the artist of the week. Those artists include Madonna, Britney Spears, Rihanna, Pitbull, David Guetta, Flo Rida and LMFAO, among others. Don’t miss the season seven premiere of airing Wednesday, April 11, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV! For continuing “Crew” coverage, be sure to check in with MTV’s blog. Related Artists JC Chasez Lil Mama

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Rated PG-13 For ‘Some Sensuality’

MPAA’s ratings explanation offers hints at Bruce Wayne’s relationships with Selina Kyle and Talia al Ghul. By Kevin P. Sullivan Tom Hardy as Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures With a little more than three months to go until the release of Christopher Nolan ‘s final Batman film, describing the fans as starved for information would be a criminal understatement. We are now at the point where any intel about ” The Dark Knight Rises ” is scrutinized beyond recognition. The latest piece of info to analyze comes from the Motion Picture Association of America. The MPAA bestowed a PG-13 rating upon “The Dark Knight Rises,” the same rating given to ” Batman Begins ” and ” The Dark Knight .” The rating appeared on the Warner Bros. exhibitor services site with a brief explanation for the classification. “PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language,” the site reads. The specifics of the rating are where the conclusion of the trilogy differs from the previous two installments. “Batman Begins” was PG-13 for “intense action violence, disturbing images and some thematic elements.” “The Dark Knight” earned the same rating for “intense sequences of violence and some menace.” The big difference here is the phrase “some sensuality,” but the addition makes sense based on what we’ve seen from the film so far and what we know about the characters. Both Selina Kyle and, as most people assume by now, Talia al Ghul are in the film and have had physical relationships with Bruce Wayne in the comic books. With “The Dark Knight Rises” taking place seven years after the events of “The Dark Knight,” Bruce may be back on the market for the first time since Rachel blew up. “Some sensuality” indeed. Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Melissa Gilbert ‘All Right’ After ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Head Injury

Contestant suffered a ‘mild concussion and whiplash’ after falling during Monday night’s performance. By Gil Kaufman Melissa Gilbert and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy on “Dancing With the Stars” Photo: ABC ” Dancing With the Stars ” has a long history of sending its competitors to the hospital with a variety of hoofing-related injuries. But on Monday night’s episode, former “Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert appeared to suffer one of the worst two-stepping mishaps in show history. While the judges were high on her bad-girl take on the paso doble, the real news was that Gilbert, 47, slipped at one point and though the audience didn’t notice, she suffered a head injury that required hospitalization. Host Tom Bergeron announced the news on the show, but didn’t give much detail. “If you’re wondering why Melissa and [dancing partner] Maks [Chmerkovskiy] are not here, she injured herself and as a precaution has gone to the hospital to get it checked out,” Bergeron said on the show, promising a full update on Tuesday night’s results show. Gilbert hit her Twitter account shortly after to explain her absence, writing, “I’m alright. Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of.” I’m alright. Mild concussion and whiplash. Very soon I will be safely home resting and being taken care of. — Melissa Gilbert (@MelissaEGilbert) April 10, 2012 Some of Gilbert’s competitors spoke to Us Weekly about the scary moment after the show. “She hit her head during her dance, and then after she felt a little dizzy, so they took her to the hospital just to get checked out and make sure she was okay,” explained Sherri Shepherd. “I think she’ll be all right, though.” Gavin DeGraw said he carried Gilbert down to the green room because the TV actress was “too weak to walk,” adding, “my arms were tired by the time I started the dance after carrying her!”

Is Kristin Wiig Leaving SNL?

‘When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing,’ Wiig says about her eventual departure from the show. By Gil Kaufman Kristen Wiig on SNL Photo: NBC No more Target Lady. No More Gillie. No more boozy Kathie Lee Gifford. No more loopy Bjork. On Monday, break-out “Saturday Night Live” star Kristen Wiig heightened speculation that her seven-year run on the show may be coming to an end. Just days after rumors surfaced that Wiig, Jason Sudeikis and Andy Samberg could be flying the coop at the end of this season, Wiig was interviewed on Alec Baldwin’s popular podcast on Monday and hinted that the end may be nigh. “I don’t know,” Wiig said when Baldwin asked if her run on “SNL” could be “winding down” soon. “Everyone has to leave…and I will say that when I do leave, it’s not because I’m sick of it and not because I see something better or anything like that. It’s just that it’s time. When I do leave, it will be the hardest thing.” Even as she became one of the most valuable cast members of the show over the past few years with her many go-for-broke characters and spot-on impressions of everyone from Lana Del Rey to Kris Jenner and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Wiig has tasted the fruits of big-screen success as well thanks to the smash “Bridesmaids” .
She not only co-starred in the film, but also co-wrote it with pal Annie Mumolo, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The 38-year-old actress, who appeared in bit parts in films such as “Knocked Up,” “Adventureland,” “Whip It!” and “Date Night,” also told Baldwin that she’s got some big plans on the horizon that don’t involve late-night TV. “People are always so surprised when I want to do dramatic stuff,” she said. “There are a couple of things that I’m looking at doing next that aren’t comedies at all. One of them is really not at all.” Though she would not cough up the details on said dramatic project, Baldwin tweaked her by saying that the versatile comic would have “absolutely no prospects whatsoever” when she left the show. “It’s a really ballsy move on your part because who the F is going to hire you?” he joked about the “SNL” star that executive producer and show creator Lorne Michaels has called one of the top three actors to ever appear on the show. “I don’t know. I may go back to open up a canoe shop,” she fired back. According to her IMDB page, Wiig has a number of movies in the can, including vocal work on “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” as well as roles in “The Comedian,” “Freezing People is Easy,” a re-make of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,” “Imogene” and “Revenge for Jolly!” Though an unnamed insider told Us Weekly that Wiig, Sudeikis and Samberg are leaving at season’s end and that a pal said, “Kristen was talking about leaving a while ago … with her movie success, it’s no surprise,” a spokesperson for Wiig and Sudeikis squashed the talk. “There is no truth to this rumor on both Jason and Kristen’s behalf,” the spokesperson said.
