Jim Carrey Promises ‘Cutting-Edge’ Movie Awards Outfit

‘This is something I’ve created myself,’ the presenter tells MTV News. ‘I’m kind of Bruce Wayne in that way.’ By Kara Warner Jim Carrey Photo: MTV News The list of reasons why you should tune into the 2011 Movie Awards on Sunday seems endless at this point, from the sheer number of A-list celebrities attending to the show-stopping performances scheduled (Hello, Foo Fighters !) to the general unpredictability of MTV’s annual event. A chief master of the art of being unpredictable, Jim Carrey is among the celebrity presenters , and if his appearances at past MTV Movie Awards are any indication, viewers are sure to be buzzing about him Sunday night. Carrey’s Movie Awards history is a storied one, the stand-out, of course, being his surprise, disguised appearance in 1999. Carrey also currently holds the title of most Golden Popcorn won, with 11 awards to his name. When MTV News caught up with the funnyman during promotion for his upcoming flick “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” we asked if he’d decided on his awards-show ensemble yet. “I’m wearing a suit that I’ve had made,” he told us. “It’s the latest in nanotechnology, so I’m able to project whatever I want on it. I’m going to be revealing that at the MTV [Movie] Awards,” he teased. “This is something I’ve created myself; I’m kind of Bruce Wayne in that kinda way. I have a lot of interesting and very cutting-edge technology that I work with and I want to unveil it at the Awards. “Wait until you see it,” he added with a smile. “It’s going to be amazing.” Carrey joins a superstar-studded list of presenters that includes Nicki Minaj, Selena Gomez, Emma Stone, Cameron Diaz, Leighton Meester, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Steve Carell, Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg. Do Foo Fighters Know Robert Pattinson From Robert Plant?

During band’s rehearsal break for Sunday’s Movie Awards, we put Foos to the test. By Ryan J. Downey The Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Hard rock, heavy metal, hardcore and punk have long gone hand-in-hand with evil wizards, magic, vampires and werewolves. And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you’d think the Foo Fighters — set to perform at Sunday’s Movie Awards — would know their “Potter” from their Zeppelin. Certainly they can recognize a “wand” reference and pinpoint its origin? Right? Before we put MTV News’ magically crafted trivia to the band, it seemed safe to assume the Foos would accurately distinguish between the words of Harry Potter, a “Twilight” character and Led Zeppelin. But was their underground nerd cred blown to shreds? Read on — and click the video! — to see how the Foo Fighters fared when we caught up with them on the Universal Studios lot, shortly after they finished rehearsing their Movie Awards performance. Our own Jim Cantiello played dungeon master as Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear were given a series of semi-famous lines and asked whether they originated with “Harry Potter,” the “Twilight Saga” or the lyrics of hard-rock pioneers Led Zeppelin. Here’s a sampling of a few of those one-liners:

’30 Minutes Or Less’ Stars Explain Taylor Lautner’s Rumored Cameo

Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson keep the rumor going at MTV’s Sneak Peek Week. By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari Photo: MTV News Ruben Fleischer, in his directorial debut, established himself as a savvy proponent of the celebrity cameo. Midway through 2009’s “Zombieland,” Bill Murray popped up in perfect out-of-nowhere fashion to steal some scenes and leave everyone wondering, “How’d they convince a comedy legend to dress up in zombie makeup and send up his own larger-than-life persona?” And when Fleischer embarked upon his second feature, the action/comedy “30 Minutes or Less,” rumors began to swirl that the director had done it again, albeit with a far younger Hollywood player. Last summer, the Web began to buzz with word that Taylor Lautner had dropped into the Grand Rapids, Michigan set to shoot a cameo. Could it be true? When MTV News visited the set a few weeks later, Fleischer’s lips were sealed when we asked about the Twi-cameo. On Friday night (June 3), at MTV’s Sneak Peak Week presentation of “30 Minutes,” it turned out that Lautner, in fact, was not in the film. So, during the post-screening Q&A, we put the question to Fleischer and stars Aziz Ansari and Nick Swardson. “He’s in it!” Ansari said. Wait, what? Did we somehow miss the most famous abs in Hollywood? “He plays a bum,” Swardson chimed in. Or not. The whole thing, it turns out, was just a rumor. “I read that somewhere. I was like, ‘I didn’t know about that,’ ” Ansari said, before reconsidering. Perhaps the suggestion that the “Twilight” star shows his face onscreen can goose the film’s box-office prospects. “Let’s start that rumor,” Ansari cracked. “People like him, right? Just say he’s in the movie. ‘That Lautner cameo is dope, man! You gotta see that movie with Taylor Lautner!’ I’m just going to say that at the MTV Movie Awards. ‘Taylor Lautner’s in “30 Minutes or Less” Good night!’ ” Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the 2011 MTV Movie Awards ? ‘Teen Wolf’ Stars Promise ‘Blood, Shirtless Men And Mystery’

‘Get ready for the gnarliest show you can feast your eyes on,’ Tyler Posey says of show’s post-Movie Awards premiere. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Chris Kim Tyler Posey as Scott McCall in “Teen Wolf” Photo: MTV For fans of all things supernatural, Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards were made for you. Thanks to exclusives from “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2” and the big premiere of the new MTV series “Teen Wolf” right after the show, it’s all about sexy creatures of the night. So why should you check out the latest incarnation of “Teen Wolf”? Well, the stars gave MTV News some really convincing reasons. For one, Tyler Hoechlin said, “There’s a lot of mystery.” Crystal Reed added, “Two, there’s a lot of shirtless men,” and Tyler Posey added, “There’s a lot of blood, and that’s all you need in life: blood, shirtless men and mystery. Get ready for the gnarliest show you can feast your eyes on. It’s just going to be a really cool show.” With a werewolf and a pretty girl at the center of the romance of the show, it’s easy to make comparisons to “Twilight.” Posey happens to play a teen wolf on “Teen Wolf” just like Taylor Lautner, but he explained the big difference between his show’s wolves and, you know, those other ones. “We’re not the only werewolves here at the MTV Movie Awards. The kids from ‘Twilight’ also have a couple werewolves of their own, but do they match up to us?” he asked. “My argument [is], we will win in a fight because we have opposable thumbs and we can jab their eyes out, and what’s cooler than jabbing another werewolves’ eyes out?” Hosted by Jason Sudeikis, the 20th annual MTV Movie Awards air live this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT, from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California. Movie Awards Tip To Celebs: Pass (And Drop) The Golden Popcorn!

‘Let it slip. It’s no problem!’ laughs Suz-Anna Dela Rosa, in search of good post-show gossip. By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Jim Cantiello Photo: MTV News If there’s one request Suz-Anna Dela Rosa, the woman in charge of handling the Movies Awards’ Golden Popcorn trophies, has for celebs as they prepare for Sunday’s big show, it’s please, please drop the Popcorn. It all started back in 2009, when Kristen Stewart dropped the Golden Popcorn statue she’d just received for Best Female Performance in “Twilight.” The starlet was awkward (and adorable) about the misstep, and the moment is now part of MTV Movie Awards history. Fast-forward to 2010: no dropped awards. Apparently last year’s celebs didn’t want to repeat KStew’s stumble, so they came prepared — with steady hands and good balance. And, of course, that was a good thing, except that it meant Dela Rosa didn’t have too many juicy celeb anecdotes for us when we asked her to dish some dirt after the show. Stewart’s slip in ’09 had gotten us a cute story about how the “Breaking Dawn” star asked Movie Awards staff for her broken Popcorn only to find out they had already tossed it. But last year? “Nothing, not a thing,” Dela Rosa said. “Celebrities, please help us out. Give us a story.” She even suggested that stars give the audience a little fake-out, a tease. “Drop it. Let it slip. It’s no problem!” she joked. With Jim Carrey set to present at the Movie Awards and Jason Sudeikis as the show’s host, she may get her wish.
