Jay Leno Logs His Worst Tonight Show Ratings Since ’93

This is either a sign that late night television is cannibalizing itself , less people are watching live TV or America just doesn’t think Jay Leno is as funny as he used to be — or all three! The Tonight Show clocked its lowest ratings this past quarter since 1993, when David Letterman premiered his Late Show on CBS. Coincidentally, this is also Leno’s first full quarter at the Tonight Show since Conangate. [ Deadline ]

Eminem Does ‘Top 10,’ Jay-Z Talks LeBron James On ‘David Letterman’

‘Don’t get mixed up with drugs, gangs or oil executives,’ Em jokes during dig at BP over oil spill. By Jayson Rodriguez Jay-Z visits the “Late Show With David Letterman” on Tuesday Photo: Getty Images Eminem and Jay-Z will appear on the “Late Show with David Letterman” tonight (June 25), and in addition to performing on the rooftop together, the two rappers also talk with the cranky host. In preview clips released online , Em is seen participating in Letterman’s famous “Top 10” segment and Jay sits down on the couch to chat with Letterman. Letterman and the Brooklyn MC discussed Cleveland Cavaliers star (and Jay-Z pal) LeBron James’ impending free agency and the arrival of Mikhail Prokhorov, the New Jersey Nets’ new Russian billionaire majority owner. “The tall guy,” Hov joked, referring to Prokhorov. “You’re a guy,” Letterman then told the rapper. “I’m a guy. Now, if LeBron James wants to be a guy, he will stay where he is and not cut the heart out of that city by leaving Cleveland. You wouldn’t do that, would you? Cleveland is in desperate decline. And one of the glimmering hopes they have —” “How’s your ratings in Cleveland?,” Jay interrupted to laughs. Jay, who holds a minority stake in the Nets , admitted if he found himself in a similar situation, he could concede to Letterman’s point. Only three of Eminem’s Top 10 items about advice for kids had been previewed at press time, including jokes about “Toy Story 3,” illegal downloading, and a dig at BP in the wake of the Gulf leak. “Don’t get mixed up with drugs, gangs or oil executives,” the Detroit MC deadpanned. The two rappers taped their appearance earlier in the week in New York. Initially, they requested to perform on top of the famed Ed Sullivan Theater marquee, but officials for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg declined to grant a permit. The pair were able to skirt the issue, however, by taking the show to the rooftop of the building and away from the streets where officials had concerns over public safety. Eminem and Jay-Z’s joint appearance was a part of promotion for their stadium concert series this September in New York and Detroit; two additional shows were announced on Thursday. How Can We Stop Eminem from Being ‘Funny’ on TV Again?

Eminem’s rapping talent is inarguable. I’ve seen him do it! You have to trust me here. He’s deft, aggressive, even poetic sometimes, but what is it about rapping that makes the 37-year-old artist feel qualified to attempt sketch comedy on television? Eminem usually does such a good job of convincing me that he doesn’t give a f*ck, but his frequent detours into TV comedy send the wrong message: that he’s actually kind of desperate to entertain, even if he feels awkward doing it. Now he’s scheduled to read off one of David Letterman’s Top 10 lists, and its preview proves to be another in a comedy career that has yet to take off. Come with me on a narrated tour of Em’s laughless TV past.

Jay-Z, Eminem Announce Two More Hometown Stadium Dates

Home and Home Tour dates are now September 2 and 3 in Detroit, September 13 and 14 in New York By MTV News staff Eminem and Jay-Z Photo: Getty Images In response to the demand for pre-sale tickets, Jay-Z and Eminem have added second dates to both of their Home and Home Tour stops, which will take place at Detroit’s Comerica Park (now September 2 and 3) and New York’s Yankee Stadium (September 13 and 14). Tickets for all four shows will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. on LiveNation.com. Earlier this week, the pair taped a performance for the “Late Show With David Letterman” that will air Friday night. When the stadium dates were first announced, Eminem said in a press release, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime set of shows and I know we’re both really going to bring it to our hometowns. The fans are going to love this and so am I. It’s gonna be historic.” “These shows are like a dream come true,” Jay-Z offered. “I’ve always hoped that hip-hop could play any stadium like other genres of music. How perfect is it that Eminem and I get to play our hometowns and show how far the live rap experience has come? Fun and historic — a great combination all around the board.” Speaking with ESPN’s Dave O’Brien and Rick Sutcliffe during a game between the Yankees and the Tigers, Eminem said of the event, “We had talked about doing something together again soon anyway — we just tried to come up with the best way and biggest way to do it. “We’ve done things together, smaller shows and whatnot,” he continued. “But I’m not sure we’ve ever done anything this big.” “I look for opportunities to work with Em,” Jay-Z added. “Any time we get a chance to collaborate on things …” Em and Jay have teamed up onstage before , performing “Renegade” together at a “DJ Hero” event last June. Jay-Z, Eminem Perform On Roof Of ‘Late Show With David Letterman’ Building

Show was relocated after Jay-Z’s plan to play on the famous marquee of New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater was scrapped. By Kyle Anderson Eminem and Jay-Z perform on the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theater in New York on Monday Photo: CBS If there’s one thing that is true in the music world, it’s that you should never bet against Jay-Z . Last week, the veteran rapper had plans to perform a surprise live set on the marquee of New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater, the home of the “Late Show With David Letterman.” But when word leaked of the surprise show, the whole plan was iced over concerns about crowd safety and logistics. On Monday, Jay performed anyway . Flanked by Eminem (who played a surprise show of his own later at Bowery Ballroom ), Jigga took to the roof of the building housing the Ed Sullivan Theater and ripped off a performance for about 100 hard-core fans who earned the right to see the pair live by winning contests on Facebook and Twitter, according to the New York Post. The pair did not need a permit for the show because the roof of the building is technically private property. Though some of the show was audible to the surrounding neighborhood, the performance was invisible to anybody walking by. The duo’s performance will air on this Friday’s episode of the “Late Show With David Letterman” and will promote the pair of upcoming shows the rappers will co-headline at the end of the summer. There will be one show in each of Jay-Z’s and Eminem’s hometowns, New York and Detroit . The pair will play Comerica Park in Detroit (home of the Detroit Tigers) on September 2 and then appear at Yankee Stadium on September 13. Bruce Beresford-Redman Custody Trial Set for November

Bruce Beresford-Redman is due in court this fall, but not for the murder of his wife. At least not yet. The TV producer is seeking custody of his two children, five-year old Camila and three-year old Alec, but is being met with resistance from the sisters of his late wife, Monica. Both haven’t been shy about accusing Beresford-Redman of killing their sibling during a Cancun vacation in April, and both plan on fighting Bruce for the kids in court. Now, a Los Angeles judge has set a November 8 trial date to determine custody of Camila and Alec. Said Judge Mitchell Beckloff: “Things can go on for quite a long time and I want to get this matter settled – as does the family.”

Miley Cyrus Performances: On The Late Show, With Bret Michaels

While Perez Hilton is basking in the spotlight and milking his Miley Cyrus photo controversy for all its worth, the 17-year old singer at the center of this scandal is acting like the mature one. (Man, we never thought we’d write that about Miley Cyrus.) Instead of harping on that situation, Miley is focusing on her music: she appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman last night, joked with the host about Twitter and then performed “Can’t Be Tamed.” Most amazingly, she did it while wearing pants! Miley on Late Show From there, Cyrus woke up today and took to the stage with Bret Michaels. First, though, she continued to defend her racy new image, saying on Good Morning America : “You have to be who you are to the full. There’s nothing that I’m holding back. And that’s what I want to give to my girl fans. Just be who you are.” Ah, there’s the pompous Miley Cyrus we know and love… to mock: sounding all high and mighty about her music when, in reality, she’s just another recycled pop singer that wears skimpy clothing to prove how “edgy” she is. Moreover, and we truly mean this with no predisposed bias or opinion of the singer, but just as people with two working ears: Miley sounds HORRIBLE in the following duet: Bret and Miley Duet
