Mom Convicted Of Microwaving Baby Wants New Trial China Arnold, 33, the Ohio mother serving a life sentence for murdering her 28-day old daughter by placing her in a microwave to cook her in August 2005, is seeking a new trial, which would be her fourth in this case, reports CBS News . Via NewsOne reports: Arnold’s defense attorney, Christopher Thompson, argued that multiple errors were made in her previous trials and she should receive another one without the death penalty as an option. Read more from CBS: Arnold, 33, was already tried three times, with the death penalty a possibility each time, in the murder of her daughter, Paris Talley. Her first trial in February 2008 ended in a mistrial and her second trial ended in September 2008 when she was found guilty but the jury could not decide on the death penalty. Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Mary Wiseman imposed a sentence of life in prison, but that decision ultimately was overturned on appeal in November 2010. Arnold’s third trial ended in May 2011 when she was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury did not vote for the death penalty. As previously reported by NewsOne, Arnold’s second conviction was overturned by the Second District Court of Appeals in Dayton after the prosecution’s star witness admitted she lied when she testified that Arnold had confessed to putting her baby in the microwave. 86-Year-Old Man Killed Wife For “Too Tight Ketchup Lid” Dementia is a serious thing, people… According to NBC News: An 86-year-old Oregon man on trial for the shooting death of his wife carried out the attack after a series of grievances with his family that prosecutors said included the failure of his stepdaughter to wish him a happy birthday and his complaint that his wife put the lid on the ketchup bottle too tightly. Deschutes County prosecutor Mary Anderson told jurors about Lawrence Loeffler’s complaints during opening statements Wednesday at his murder trial. Anderson said Loeffler made the criticisms about his family during questioning by officers about the death of 83-year-old Betty Loeffler. The prosecutors said the killing was a calculated act. Anderson said Lawrence Loeffler took the phone off the hook, retrieved a .25-caliber handgun in the middle of the night from the bedroom where she slept and then “set a trap” to get his wife onto the deck at the back of their house near La Pine, a town of about 1,670 people on the east edge of the Cascade Range in Central Oregon. He shot her once in the neck and then again in the head in what he described to investigators as a “kill shot” to make sure she was dead, Anderson told jurors. While Lawrence Loeffler admitted having planned to kill his wife, defense attorney Jacques DeKalb said his client was not guilty of murder because he was suffering from delusions. “He had no idea what reality was at that time,” DeKalb told jurors. DeKalb said Lawrence Loeffler spent about 10 days in a Bend retirement home after surgery to remove his gall bladder in December, receiving hospice care. He said Loeffler was fixated on the death of his own father and became disoriented, irrational and obsessed with death. On Wednesday, jurors listened to a 911 call Loeffler made after the shooting. During the recording, the dispatcher asks Loeffler about the shooting, and he says his wife was threatening him and he was afraid for his life, so he shot her. Some of the call is nearly impossible to understand as Loeffler sobs and screams repeatedly that he doesn’t know the details of what had taken place in the home. Lawrence Loeffler breathes with the help of an oxygen concentrator, and he began to cry as he sat at the defense table listening to the call. Awwww, for some reason we feel sorry for this guy…SMH. Kyrgyzstan Fears Bubonic Plague Outbreak After Groundhog BBQ Leads To Teenager’s Death Via DailyMail An outbreak of the deadly bubonic plague has tormented the former Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan after the death of a 15-year-old boy. Three more people showed symptoms of the ‘Black Death’, and in total 131 came into contact with the victim. More than 800 people have been screened in the town of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The disease wiped out tens of millions in 14th century Europe. It was reported that 15-year-old Temirbek Isakunov died after eating a barbecued groundhog infected with the lethal virus, yet another account suggests he became infected after being bitten by an oriental flea carried by a marmot that he reportedly prepared for food. Eastern districts of the mountainous country were in ‘lockdown’ last night as officials sought to prevent the plague spreading. Neighbouring Kazakhstan urged its people not to travel to the country, and introduced ‘special monitoring’ of those crossing the border. Three villagers who were in contact with the dead teenager – a woman with a toddler and a teenager – show symptoms of bubonic plague, admitted a government source. Might wanna cop you a “Outbreak” suit if you plan on visiting Kyrgyzstan any time…ever. ‘While fighting for the life of the teenager, doctors gave the boy 17 different drugs which made it difficult to make an accurate diagnosis,’ admitted Kyrgyzstan’s Health Ministry. As many as 19 doctors are among those being monitored for signs of the disease. All have been put in quarantine and are undergoing preventative treatment. Groundhogs are a natural carrier of the deadly disease and were targeted for extermination in the Soviet Union, but the Kyrgyz authorities stopped poisoning them from 1982 onward due to the costs involved. ‘The teenager turned for medical aid in the district hospital with the health complaints for running temperature and bubonic inflammations on August 22,’ said the healthy ministry in capital Bishkek. ‘He was immediately taken to hospital in the surgery ward. Aaron Hernandez: Indicted For First-Degree Murder

Aaron Hernandez was indicted today on a first-degree murder charge in the death of Odin Lloyd, the friend whose body was found near his house. The six-county grand jury indictment charges the former New England Patriots star with killing 27-year-old Lloyd, a semi-pro football player. The indictment against Hernandez also contains weapons charges. Aaron Hernandez Indicted For Murder Lloyd was reportedly dating the sister of Hernandez’s girlfriend, Shayanna Jenkins , whose role in a potential cover-up has yet to be established. Hernandez, 23, pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges in June, and he is being held, in solitary confinement, without bail at a county jail. His lawyers have maintained that the case against the former NFL standout is circumstantial and say that he will be able to clear his name. Hernandez signed a five-year, $40 million deal last summer but was cut from the team within hours of his June 26 arrest for the murder of Odin Lloyd. He could face life in prison if convicted. Prosecutors say Hernandez orchestrated Lloyd’s killing because he was upset at him for talking to people Hernandez had issues with at a club days earlier. They say Hernandez and two associates, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, picked Lloyd up at his home in Boston, then drove to the industrial park. Shortly before his death, authorities say, Lloyd sent his sister text messages. He asked if she had seen who he was with when he got into the car in Boston. Then he indicated who it was in a way that Lloyd’s family said he knew his sister would understand. “NFL,” he wrote to her. “Just so you know.” Moments later, authorities say, Lloyd was dead after gunshots rang out. He apparently got out of the car for what he thought was a bathroom break. Authorities have not said who fired the shots, but according to court documents, Ortiz told police in Florida that Wallace said it was Aaron Hernandez. Wallace has pleaded not guilty to a charge of accessory to murder. Ortiz has pleaded not guilty to a firearm charge. Both are being held without bail. Despite a massive search effort, and an apparent gun photo , authorities haven’t found the murder weapon, believed to be a .45-caliber Glock pistol. They have recovered a magazine for .45-caliber bullets in his car as well as ammunition of the same caliber inside a condo he rented, however. Police also recovered a shell casing that matched those found at the homicide scene after tracking a rental car Hernandez was in the night Lloyd died. Story developing …

R.I.P: Lea Michele Takes Over Planning Memorial Service For Fallen Boyfriend Cory Monteith

Man, Lea is soldier for this one… Lea Michele Planning Funeral For Cory Monteith Hollywood actress and girlfriend of the now-late “Glee” star Cory Monteith is said to be devastated over the recent loss of her boyfriend, but still finding the strength to make sure things are in order surrounding his death and upcoming memorial service. via US Weekly While mourning the loss of her love, Lea Michele is focusing on planning his funeral arrangements. “She’s been talking with Cory’s family the entire time and wants to plan the whole funeral,” an insider previously told Us. Though the source said Michele is “planning the whole thing,” a second insider told Us she is still struggling to cope with his death. “She’s not doing great,” the insider said. “She’s totally devastated.” TMZ reported that Monteith was cremated in Vancouver on Tuesday. Michele reportedly attended a private viewing with his family. That same day, she broke her silence about Monteith’s passing in a statement through her rep. “Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she’s received from family, friends, and fans,” Michele’s rep told Us. Detail are also being revealed about exactly how Lea found out about Cory’s tragic passing. Lea Michele got the phone call no one ever wants to get the evening of Saturday, July 13. The 26-year-old Glee star’s costar and real-life boyfriend of more than a year, Cory Monteith, was dead at the young age. A source tells Us Weekly that Michele got the heartbreaking call in Los Angeles at around 10 p.m. that evening. The person on the other end of the line had been desperate to reach her before the news broke. “Lea completely lost her mind,” says a confidant. “She went crazy, screaming and crying until 3 a.m.” Devastated, the actress went into seclusion in L.A. “Lea has been inconsolable and feels like she’s been hit by a truck,” says the friend. “She didn’t know he’d started using again.” Monteith spent the month of April in rehab, but toxicology reports revealed on July 16 that the Canadian-born actor had accidentally overdosed on heroin and alcohol. Hospital Employees Fired for Accessing Records of Kim Kardashian

Six people have been fired for illegally accessing the medical records of patients at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, with The Los Angeles Times reporting this weekend that Kim Kardashian was among those whose privacy was breached. The incidents reportedly took place between June 18 and June 24. Kim, of course, gave birth to North West on June 15 and remained a patient for seven days as the premature baby was treated and evaluated. Insiders tell TMZ that Kardashian family members were suspicious that some kind of records-related activity took place considering the details that leaked to the media. Kim has been informed of this report and is happy to have the matter settled. She is also pleased that those in the wrong were terminated.

Cory Monteith Dead; Glee Star Found Unresponsive in Hotel Room

Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead Saturday. He was just 31.  Vancouver police found Monteith dead after he failed to check out at noon from the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel. Staff went to check on him and made the discovery. It’s been reported that he was “clearly deceased” at the scene.  According to investigators, he was in the room Friday night with some friends before the group went out on the city, then came back early Saturday alone. No foul play is suspected in the death of Cory Monteith, whose rep confirmed the worst in a statement in the hours after this story broke: “We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate,” the rep said. “We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss.” What led to his tragic passing is unclear, however. Police said “it was not immediately apparent” what caused his death. An autopsy is set for Monday. Monteith voluntarily checked himself into rehab earlier this year, admitting he had substance abuse issues. It was his second time seeking treatment. He had been dating fellow Glee star Lea Michele since 2012. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.
