Kid Cudi ‘Broke Down’ Over Fan Ben Breedlove’s Death

Teenager who posted YouTube videos about his heart condition died on Christmas Day. By Andrea Duncan-Mao Kid Cudi Photo: MTV News Kid Cudi wrote on his blog that he “broke down” over the death of Ben Breedlove, an 18-year-old fan from Austin, Texas, who suffered a fatal heart attack on Christmas Day. Cudi heard about Breedlove after a pair of YouTube videos the fan made went viral before his death. In the videos, Breedlove silently holds up cards that tell the story of living with a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is a disease that causes the heart muscles to enlarge, making it difficult to pump blood properly. He says he “cheated death” three times: the most recent time in early December when EMTs used shock pads on his chest after his heart stopped. He described a vision of being in a white room and being with his “favorite rapper, Kid Cudi” wearing white suits and feeling “happy and peaceful” and he “couldn’t stop smiling.” He ended his videos with a card that read “Do you believe in God and angels? I do.” After watching the videos, Kid Cudi wrote: “I am so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down, I am to tears because I hate how life is so unfair. This has really touched my heart in a way I cant describe, this is why I do what I do.” Cudi went on to say, “To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definitely mine. You have my love.” Breedlove’s parents released an obituary in the Austin American-Statesman on Thursday (December 29) referencing the videos and writing, “Now the world has come to know our Ben. He was a genius at using the Internet to reach and influence his peers. … In the weeks prior to his death, he had faced some scary situations with his health, but had been given an amazing gift that he was determined to share; first with us, his family, and then, not surprisingly (and generously) with his YouTube audience.” Related Artists Kid Cudi

Bolitics: Former Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal No Longer Facing The Death Penalty

Almost 30 years to the date since his arrest for allegedly shooting a police officer in Philly, political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal is no longer on Death Row. The Philadelphia district attorney said today he is dropping pursuit of death penalty against former Black Panther Mumia Abu-Jamal, the Associated Press reports. The announcement comes two days before supporters of the former radio reporter, who was convicted in the 1981 murder of Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner, will gather to mark the 30th anniversary of Abu-Jamal’s arrest, ThePhiladelphia Inquirer says. Abu-Jamal, 58, is being held at the state prison in Greene County in Western Pennsylvania, where he has gained fame for his death-row writings. He will serve a life sentence. Faulkner was on patrol in Center City on Dec. 9, 1981, when, according to testimony, he pulled over a car driven by Abu-Jamal’s brother, William Cook, at 13th and Locust Streets, the Inquirer says. Abu-Jamal, moonlighting as a cabdriver, recognized his brother’s car, ran toward them, and shot Faulkner, witnesses testified. A gunfight ensued, and Abu-Jamal was struck by a bullet from Faulkner’s gun. Abu-Jamal was found slumped on a curb. Witnesses said Abu-Jamal stood over the wounded officer and shot him in the face. Neither Abu-Jamal nor Cook has testified about what happened that night. Abu-Jamal has denied shooting Faulkner. After 30 years… Let’s see what this will mean for the rest of America’s political prisoners. Source More On Bossip! RihRih Gets Kushed Up And Goes Drizzy H.A.M. Lil Boosie Sentenced to Eight Years For Drug Smuggling

Dr. Conrad Murray , you’ve got company. Okay, not really, but rapper Lil Boosie was sentenced to eight years in prison for conspiring to smuggle drugs into prison. Three times over. Usually not a smart idea. Boosie, who was featured on the ’07 hit “Wipe Me Down,” was in court Tuesday, pleading guilty to three counts of conspiring to bring drugs into a penal institution. The judge sentenced Boosie to eight years. Of course, Boosie has bigger problems , namely that he’s also accused of first-degree MURDER in the death of a 35-year-old man and may face the death penalty. With the drug case now behind him, he’ll be in jail regardless, but Boosie’s murder trial is set to begin in April. Suddenly the drug smuggling makes more sense.

Heavy D’s Family: His “Bear Hugs” Will Be Missed

See the article here:

Heavy D’s family has released a statement concerning the death of the rap legend. The statement reads as follows: Hev had great love for his family and friends; he was a kind and giving spirit who extended and shared himself with everyone who crossed his path. He had a heart of gold, was approachable, very personable and gave of himself willingly and unconditionally. Though Hev will most notably be remembered for his work both behind-the-scenes and in the forefront, he will always be remembered by us as a generous soul who remained humble and unselfish till his final days. Out of all Hev’s successes and accomplishments, in his eyes, his most important triumph was that of becoming a father. Hev’s love for his daughter Xea was profound — she was the center of his life, his heart, his soul. He often said “I cannot live without her and that she embodied every phenomenal attribute that he brought to this world.” The name and the success of Heavy D will always be synonymous with music forever. He never compromised his values and artistry, and encouraged his peers to do the same. To us, Hev was the one who made us laugh, cry, sing, dance and turn a frown upside down. As a family, we are devastated by Hev’s passing but through our faith in God and support from family, friends and fans, we are comforted, blessed and will remain strong. His “bear hugs” are going to be deeply missed. –The Myers Family RELATED: Pete Rock On Heavy D: “I Feel Like He’s Gonna Call Me Any Second” Heavy D Funeral Services Set For Nov. 18 In Mt. Black Hollywood represented on the red carpet at the 24th annual Thurgood Marshall College Fund Anniversary Dinner, held at the Sheraton Hotel in New York City. Blair Underwood, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lamman Rucker (“Meet The Browns”), Russell Simmons, and Rockmond Dunbar were among the celebrity attendees lending their star power to the annual event. Cuba Gooding Jr., who stars as Lt. Emmanuelle Stance in the upcoming George Lucas produced Red Tails shared his experiences visiting prisons throughout the country. “We need to understand we have worth as black people, especially our black men.” Gooding also pointed out that a lack of black history in the American education system deprives young black children of positive role models, like The Tuskegee Airmen. When asked about taking on the iconic role of Stanley Kowalski (made famous by Marlon Brando) in next year’s Broadway revival of “A Streetcar Named Desire”, Blair Underwood replied ” The key is not to copy Brando, but in reading the script and finding your own truth.” Rockmond Dunbar, who just wrapped up Season 4 of the F/X hit drama “Sons of Anarchy” shared his excitement about playing shady Sheriff Eli Roosevelt. “It’s a great character, very 3 dimensional–great nemesis for the boys.” The Thurgood Marshall College Fund, founded by Dr. N. Joyce Payne, raises funds for students wishing to attend one of the 38 historically black public colleges and universities.
