WaPo’s David Broder Declares the Voters’ Will in 2010 Was Best Symbolized by…Lisa Murkowski

Liberal journalists are forever trying to dismiss the idea that when conservative candidates win, the voters who sent them to Washington sent them for conservative goals — to restrain relentless government growth. In Thursday's Washington Post, columnist David Broder declared, in the face of all evidence, that the defining campaign of 2010 was….the egocentric write-in campaign of moderate Republican Lisa Murkowski in Alaska. It was not the year of the Tea Party, or repealing ObamaCare. It was the year that the voters said they wanted non-ideological bipartisanship. He quoted her interview with the PBS NewsHour:

Beck: Obama Will Blame Terror Attack On TSA Resistance

Fox News host warns that administration is preparing to exploit event to squelch resistance to airport security In little noticed comments made during an appearance on Judge Andrew Napolitano’s show on Fox News, Glenn Beck warned that the Obama administration wouldn’t hesitate to exploit a terror attack targeting airliners to blame the event on people protesting naked body scanners and TSA groping in airports. The Fox News host said that the government was deliberately provoking the American people to rise up so they could squelch the growing resistance with an iron fist, noting that Obama has failed to give a single speech addressing the TSA revolt even amidst the biggest holiday travel period of the year. “Let’s get people to rise up and say no scanners….something happens, the President then has the ability to finally give a speech on airport security and say ‘I was trying to protect you and these people stood up against these scanners, and these people died because of it….you have to stop listening, I’ll protect you,” said Beck, implying that the Obama administration would exploit a terror attack to blame it on those protesting against scanners and TSA groping in airports. Beck added that people in the Obama administration were probably having casual conversations surrounding the potential of a terror attack targeting airline travel along the lines of, “Gee, it wouldn’t be so bad, would it?” Beck made similar comments earlier this month when he suggested that the Obama administration was preparing to stage an event that would be blamed on opponents of big government. Discussing how leftists need violence to realize their political agenda, Beck featured a clip in which former Clintonite and Democrat operative Mark Penn said Obama needs an OKC bombing-style event to regain his popularity. “Remember, President Clinton reconnected through Oklahoma, right?” said Penn on Chris Matthews’ Hardball show. “And the president right now seems removed. It wasn’t until that speech [after the bombing] that [Clinton] really clicked with the American public. Obama needs a similar” defining moment, according to Penn. As we have documented, Penn is not the only prominent insider to invoke exploitation of terror as a means of reinvigorating the big government agenda. Back in July, former senior advisor to President Bill Clinton Robert Shapiro wrote in the Financial Times that only an OKC bombing or 9/11 style event could provide Obama with the opportunity to demonstrate that he is a strong leader. After reading a letter written by Tides CEO and founder Drummond Pike that encouraged advertisers to boycott Fox News in a thinly veiled threat that implied Beck’s rhetoric is leading to another OKC bombing, Beck stated, “They are setting up an Oklahoma City, they are claiming that one is coming and they’re already marked the one who caused it,” referring to himself. The resistance to TSA groping and naked body scanners is only accelerating as Thanksgiving nears and a national opt-out protest is less than 48 hours away. More and more cases of TSA abuse continue to pour in on a daily basis as Transportation Security Administration head John Pistole indicates for the first time that the agency may be starting to cave to the backlash. Pistole told CNN’s State of the Union yesterday that screening procedures would not be altered but in a subsequent statement acknowledged that the TSA needed to make airport security “as minimally invasive as possible,” in response to the building nationwide outrage and vows by numerous airport directors to ditch the TSA altogether in favor of private security. http://www.prisonplanet.com/beck-obama-will-blame-terror-attack-on-tsa-resistanc… added by: im1mjrpain

Caught: Jon Stewart Shows GOP’s ‘New’ Pledge Exactly The Same As The Old

Last night on “The Daily Show,” Jon Stewart lambasted the GOP for their new “Pledge to America,” a promise of fresh, new ideas that sound identical to the Republican rhetoric of the last 20 years. Stewart began by remembering two years ago when Republican senators previously pledged to make the GOP a “party of new ideas,” trying things like forum website America Speaking Out, and other ideas that ultimately failed. Now, with midterms around the corner, Republicans have are trying to reinvent themselves once more, promising things like reduced spending, smaller government, permanent tax cuts, and other things that sound oddly familiar. “Your fresh new ideas,” Stewart said, “sound slightly – I'm sorry, did I say slightly? – sound EXACTLY like your old ones.” As he does best, Stewart worked the clips and showed side by side comparisons of 2010 Republicans pledging to do the same things as those of the last 20 years. “This isn't even a sequel,” Stewart said. “This is a shot-by-shot remake!” added by: atomiclegion

Netflix CEO: "Americans are somewhat self-absorbed"

“THR: Are you concerned that American Netflix subscribers will look north and ask for the same discount Canadians get at $7.99? Hastings: How much has it been your experience that Americans follow what happens in the world? It's something we'll monitor, but Americans are somewhat self-absorbed.” http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/news/e3if1d3902d12574ec22296… added by: lvp

Iska River Disappears Overnight

The Iska River in Slovenia vanished overnight after residents reported hearing loud crashing sounds. ::..::.. On Tuesday, the Iska River was bubbling past the village of the same name. On Wednesday… it was gone. Residents say they heard crashing and drumming sounds during the night. When they went to the river the next morning, they watched what was left of it disappear before their eyes. Geologists believe the water disappeared into the porous limestone riverbed and is now flowing under ground. It's said the same thing happened to the river before during World War II. It's not clear when or if the water will resurface. ::..::.. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=6898039n added by: vancitysage

Colbert (Briefly) Breaks Character in Testimony before Congress

Stephen Colbert mostly yucked it up during his congressional testimony today, but towards the end, Democrat Judy Chu actually got him to break his faux-pundit facade. After relating the story of a worker overcome by heat stroke, but unable to find medical help, she asked Colbert why he had chosen to tackle the migrant worker topic. Colbert took a moment to collect himself, and then, with a stammer he said, “I… I like talking about people who don’t have any power.” (See video from CNN.) “This seems like one of the least powerful groups of people in the United States are migrant workers who come and do our work and don’t have any rights as a result.” Then the comedian actually quoted the Bible non-ironically saying, “You know, whatsoever you do for the least of my brothers—and these seem like the least of our brothers right now. … Migrant workers suffer and have no rights.” Full testimony video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6kKlnVl3UE added by: Future_America

Stephen Colbert, Dems’ Trained Clown, Trotted Out to Distract From Obama DOJ Scandal

Personally, I completely  agree with Glenn Reynolds  that  having this idiot Colbert testify was nothing more than a Democrat stunt to take the media’s eye off the very real and important testimony also taking place today regarding the  Justice Department’s racism scandals . So the more cringe-worthy and embarrassing Colbert’s appearance is, the better. Naturally, the MSM will be all too willing to play along. They fully understand how damaging the DOJ Black Panther case is to the Obama Administration and have no desire to come anywhere near covering it. And of course, there’s Stephen Colbert, just as willing to play along – a narcissistic attention whore with no respect for the political process who thinks his schtick combined with a ten hour day he spent in the vegetable fields somehow makes him a compelling and important witness. The one good thing that came out of this is Colbert’s reaction to Conyers’ request that he leave. It’s not very often you see a smug, superior Hollywoodist caught off guard. Byron York has more coverage  here . He thinks the Democrats damaged themselves with this stunt:  Colbert stayed in place as the other witnesses made opening statements. When Colbert’s turn came, Conyers briefly interrupted to say that he was withdrawing his request for Colbert to leave. Then Colbert began his testimony, which was an in-character schtick based on a one-day visit to an upstate New York farm. “This is America,” Colbert said. “I don’t want a tomato picked by a Mexican.”  As the hearing went on, Colbert said things like, “I was a cornpacker…cornpacker is a derogatory term for a gay Iowan.” At the end, Lofgren proclaimed the hearing “helpful.” She thanked the witnesses, who she called “volunteers to help make a better country.” But the presence of her star witness, Colbert, had cause a number of strange and awkward moments, ones that could come back to some of the Democrats on the panel in the campaign ahead. I disagree with York. As I write this, Colbert is all over cable news and the  “bombshell” testimony regarding the DOJ is nowhere to be seen. But it’s hard to beat the trifecta of political corruption: Democrats, the media, and Hollywood. Mission accomplished. Crossposted at Big Hollywood

Don’t Tell Me – It’s Just More of the Same

Bryan Safi is a writer for infoMania and the host of “That's Gay.” Remember how Mean Old Man McCain threatened to block movement to repeal “don’t ask, don’t tell” and we were all like, “um…you’re stupid”? And then remember how last night we waited to see if Sarah Palin would show up on DWTS to cheer on her little star who’s famous for not using a condom? One of those two things didn’t happen.

Maddow Laments That Five Pro-Life GOP US Senate Candidates Have No Rape/Incest Exception

Wow, I didn’t realize this until watching radical left MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s September 16 rant bemoaning the “great, unacknowledged, big honking policy issue of this year’s elections nationwide.” That is, at least 5 Republican , Tea Party -backed US Senate pro-life candidates oppose aborting innocent babies whose fathers are sexual criminals. With Christine O’Donnell of Delaware newly added to the list, the roster includes Sharron Angle of Nevada, Ken Buck of Colorado, Joe Miller of Alaska, and Rand Paul of Kentucky. This is as it should be, which I’m thrilled to know. This must have pro-aborts quaking. They have managed for decades to get Americans to go along with 100% of abortions by appealing to their compassion for mothers impregnated by rapists and family members, whose abortions account for no more than 1.5% of all, according to Guttmacher . Many pro-life politicians, including President Bush , have caved on this point, which is contradictory. Either all preborns are human beings, or they’re not. If they are, they must all be protected. In fact, abortion protects rapists, particularly friends and family. A prime example would be the imaginary victim Maddow described, a “14-yr-old girl who is raped by your uncle, or by your father.” Even Joycelyn Elders , President Clinton’s pro-abort attorney general, stated pregnancy is evidence of sexual abuse. Abortion destroys the evidence. Who doesn’t think the 1st thing a victimizing uncle or father would do is take the pregnant 14-yr-old for an abortion? Click to enlarge… Almost every time I write on the topic of rape and pregnancy I refer to this excellent article pointing to the only study ever done on this topic. It found first that 75-85% of mothers impregnated by rape do not abort. Abortion should not be presumed in these cases. It concluded that mothers who abort their babies following rape are psychologically worse off than those who did not. One reason is abortion is also a violent act; many rape victims reported they felt like it was “medical rape.” Mothers who did not abort felt they were helping good come from evil and in a sense conquering their rape. Themselves having been victimized, they did not want to victimize their baby. This is yet another great political development in a year full of great political developments in our fight to protect innocent preborn life.

Democrats Worried Jon Stewart Rally Will Hurt Them On Election Day

Although the media took last week’s announcement of comedian Jon Stewart’s “Rally to Restore Sanity” like it was manna falling from heaven, some Democrats are concerned it could hurt them in the upcoming midterm elections. Scheduling such an event on the Saturday before Election Day, when field operatives should be diligently working on Get Out The Vote efforts in their districts, could be tremendously counterproductive. On the other hand, as Politico’s Ben Smith noted Monday, there’s already a big Democrat rally planned in October: Stewart hasn’t mentioned that labor groups and other institutional Democratic organizations are already planning a big Washington rally to counter Beck: The One America rally on October 2, which has been struggling to get the kind of attention Beck does. “Midterm elections are about turnout and as has widely been reported, there is an intensity gap in this election, with the Republican base more motivated than the Democrats’. Some of that gap can be closed with an aggressive ground campaign — we can make up 2-3% in a given race by talking to people at their doors and on their phones,” emails veteran labor Democratic consultant Steve Rosenthal. “I love Jon Stewart — rarely miss the show, but to the extent that some people who will attend his rally would otherwise be involved in GOTV efforts this is not helpful.” Nation editor Chris Hayes e-mailed Smith: First: It’s hard to imagine lots of democratic [sic] politicians showing up to a left equivalent of Glenn Beck’s rally (and I wonder how many will be at the *actual* progressive march on October 2nd), but more than that is [sic] puts our current ideological predicament in stark terms. On the right, a large, well-funded, organized, ideologically zealous movement dedicated to a genuinely reactionary vision of America. On the other side? A very gifted satirist calling for everyone to just chill. If I landed here from Mars and took this in and was asked to bet on who’s going to have more political success, it would be a no-brainer. Something else lost in the discussion is that this event is scheduled for the day before Halloween.  Makes you wonder what kind of anti-GOP costumes will be on display and how that will go counter to the “million moderates march” motif. Think about all the George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity dolls likely to be burned in effigy in our nation’s capital as organizers futilely ask, “Can’t we all just get along?” Doesn’t present a picture of sanity , does it? Of course, with two liberal Clintonistas involved in putting this event together, they’ll likely have folks patrolling the crowd to control such imagery. Nobody’s better at falsely presenting a “moderate” persona than a former member of that administration.
